I have used Highsmith & Daughters Plumbing on several very different projects over the past few years, and Matthew and his team have earned my trust each time. I first met Matthew when he helped a friend's father deal with numerous gas leaks in a mobile home. It was a difficult situation, but he was responsive, professional, and thorough. Later, after we moved into a home in Lancaster, I asked the company to travel from Simi Valley to help overhaul several parts of the plumbing system. The house needed a new regulator and cleanout, and an addition had been plumbed incorrectly with the hot and cold lines reversed. They also replaced an older water heater with a tankless system and rerouted portions of the gas piping as we converted more appliances and systems to electric. They handled several additional problems that demonstrated both persistence and honesty. A serious clog in the main kitchen drain line took more than two hours to break through, but they stayed with it until the line was cleared. During the home inspection, we had also been told that approximately ten feet of piping beneath the house appeared cracked and might need to be replaced. After performing a full video inspection of the plumbing system, Matthew's team determined that the marks were likely only surface scuffs and that the pipe was safe to continue using. Their willingness to give an honest assessment instead of recommending an unnecessary replacement meant a great deal to us. Most recently, they helped at a Scottish Rite commercial building where more than sixteen feet of older cast-iron drainage piping had collapsed. The affected section included multiple connections serving different drains in one of our primary bathrooms. They replaced and rerouted the damaged piping, charged a very fair price, and once again delivered quality work. It is rare to find a plumbing company equally comfortable handling mobile-home gas leaks, a major residential overhaul, difficult drain problems, video inspections, and complex commercial cast-iron drainage repairs. Lets talk about this great company. I found them last year via my electrician. He did not steer me wrong. Not only did they have comparable pricing last year to install my new hot water heater, but they were informative, gave me great instructions and recommation for future maintenance. Today they returned for the annual maintenance- he was on time, told me what he would do and how long it would take- which he was spot on. Ok these people are just fantastic. From initial call to finished service (and it was major) they were friendly, polite, patient and provided first class service. Matt, Vanessa, Trent, Derek and Baggio treated me kindly and also respected my home while doing the job they were hired to do, which was an entire repipe of my home. I would not wish this on my worst enemy due to how intrusive and destructive repiping a home is, but Highsmith and Daughters made this process as painless as possible. Nothing was broken, scratched, damaged in my home other than the drywall they needed to open up to repipe. They ran plastic runners over my carpet and tile, and also covered up electronics and appliances. They were on time, friendly, did proper work and used the best materials. Helped me with some other items and took time to answer all my questions while they were onsite and offsite. They also dealt with a very nosy neighbor professionally as well which I appreciated. I emphatically recommend Matt and his business and all his employees, who were wonderful to deal with from pre-sales walk-through to project end. A few weeks ago,, we woke up to a water slab leak in our kitchen, and I reached out to Highsmith & Daughters on Yelp for service. They responded quickly and were able to recommend a leak detection company. They also assisted me in turning off the hot water heater to temporarily stop the leak. Once the leak detection was done and a report was made, Highsmith & Daughters were able to fit me in the next day. Derrick arrived in the early afternoon and stayed until the job was done. They were professional and knowledgeable. Derrick noted we had a bad pressure valve and stated that could have been the reason for the slab leak. Many companies may appear friendly and professional during the initial visit, but later try to take advantage by selling you fear and pressure. They exploit your vulnerability to open your wallet. I've been there and seen it all. However, I have some knowledge of plumbing and a better sense of what a reasonable quote should look like in terms of cost and quality. Highsmith & Daughters Plumbing stands out in both aspects. After my hot water pipe burst under the slab, I had over five companies come out to provide estimates. It was pretty amusing to see how often ignorance and dishonesty are so common in the industry. Then Matthew from Highsmith & Daughters came by, answered all my questions, and shortly after the visit, provided me with a very reasonable estimate. He's a professional and funny guy, one of the few who didn't try to sell me fear or nonsense. The project was completed quickly within one day. Even though the job turned out to be a little more complicated and required more time and effort, he stuck to the original quote and finished the job nicely. I hired Highsmith & Daughters a couple of months ago and had such a poor experience it's been bugging me so I thought I'd write a review. When I first reached out to set an appointment, it was a little frustrating because apparently the person I was taking to on Yelp did not communicate with the person they told me to reach out to to schedule the appointment. The scheduler had to call me back after they could get a chance to sync up with the person managing Yelp as to what we had discussed, in terms of scope of work and prices agreed to. When they called me back, the earliest appointment they had was a week out or maybe even longer. Thankfully, it wasn't an emergency, but to wait over a week seemed to be a bit much. When they told me that Mr. Highsmith himself would be scheduled to come out, I thought that was great, who better than the man himself?! That should be worth the wait. Well, turns out when you're the owner, at least Mr. Highsmith, it means you think you don't have to work as hard as everyone else. On the day of my appointment, an hour before Mr. Highsmith was scheduled to arrive, I received notice that Mr. Highsmith would be significantly delayed because he had a blood test to take in the morning. Apparently, he had forgotten to tell anyone about it. To get a call 60 minutes before our appointment that there would be a significant delay due to something that should have been foreseen and scheduled around was frustrating to say the least. Ok, well, Mr. Highsmith did eventually show up. He installed my new garbage disposal, a new bathroom sink faucet, replaced a leaky hose bib, and was supposed to have fixed a running toilet. The thing that really frustrates me is that because Mr. Highsmith was late to arrive, he was also in a rush to leave for his next appointment. Corners were cut. He did not review the work done with me before asking for payment and, as I later found out, he did not fix the running toilet. Total was over $1000.00 and I provided the new faucet and garage disposal myself. This was $1000.00+ for about 2 hours of labor. When I confronted them about the running toilet that they were supposed to have fixed, they said they would need to replace the entire toilet because parts for my toilet were no longer available. But they still charged me for a fix that didn't do anything and sent me an estimate for a $650 new toilet which was a "discounted price" which seems like BS. It feels like a scam that they charged me for a fix that didn't work, tried to say parts were no longer available, and then tried to sell me a whole new toilet instead. Well, I hired another plumber, and they fixed the running toilet in 30 minutes for $150 for parts and labor. Clearly, I did not need a new toilet and parts were in fact available. So, was Mr. Highsmith just in a rush or was it a scummy attempt at an upsell? I don't know but both are not good. I'm frustrated at how much time and money I've wasted on Mr. Highsmith. Maybe he's a good plumber and businessman when he wants to be, but he doesn't seem to always stand behind his word and his work, at least not in my experience. I will never do business with Highsmith & Daughters again and I hope you steer clear as well. read more

I walked into our garage at 6 PM this past Monday and there was water all over the floor. Our flex supply line running from the shut off valve to the water heater was suddenly leaking causing an active water leak in our garage. I called Matt, and he had Derek one of his technicians come out and fix the problem for us within two hours. Derek was fantastic. Later that night, our hot water was not working in the house. I called Matt again and he walked me through the process of reigniting our water heater because during the process it shut off. Matt went above and beyond and took great care of us. Finding home services is normally a gamble but not in this case. We have used Highsmith a few times now and they are the best plumbing company we've ever used (and we're old so that's saying something)!! We had our shut off on our house main changed as it was not only inconveniently located on the ground but also very hard to turn. We also had them out to clear our kitchen drain - don't use those pod things in your dishwasher - literally just say no!! We also had the replace our water heater. I honestly don't like coming on here and writing negative reviews, but I feel like I had to voice my concerns with my transaction with Highsmith & Daughters Plumbing. Recently, we had a pipe fail (old house), and I called them to request an inspection and a quote for repairs. Because I called on the weekend, they informed me that there would be an "Emergency fee" added onto the inspection. So i asked how much would it cost for them to come out and look, and they said $250. I felt that was super reasonable, and agreed. They sent a tech out initially, who was super friendly, and attempted to clear the drain with a snake, to no avail, as he suspected the pipe failure. So they had a second tech come with the camera to confirm. Both techs were incredibly nice, and I wanted to like this company based off that alone. When the tech was done with the Camera work, he told me the charge was $250, as discussed, and I happily paid him on the spot. He then said he would get back to me that night with a quote for the repairs under the conditions we discussed. Perfect. Everything's going well. Here's where I start to have a problem. The quote came 3 days later, which not a big deal, things happen, we get busy. The quote was very high, so we got a second opinion, and was quoted at almost half of what these guys were charging us. Also, not a huge deal, you price things based on experience,quality etc, and I am sure these guys do great work. But then a few days later, I got an invoice for $110 for the first tech trying to snake our drain line. And when I emailed the company and said I was told that the $250 was the price it would be to have the job inspected, attempted to clear, and quote for repairs all in. They said no, this was a separate charge and the $250 was just for the camera inspection. Which makes no sense, because they quoted me $250 on the phone for the call out, then sent a tech who didn't even know they needed to bring a camera in to look at the drain. There was no mention of separate charges for the same job. And when I attempted to explain this via email, the replies were not sympathetic to the apparent mis communication that was had. So I paid the invoices, and went with another company for the repairs. 2 stars for the deceptive charges that were tacked on much later, would have been 1 star, but the technicians they sent out were very nice and informative. So Kudos to their staff at least. read more
