Went for lunch, had the Garage Burger and the California Dreamin'. Food was ok. They didn't have just a plain burger on the menu, but maybe you could order one? The California Dreamin' was served on sliced bread, which I think would've been better on a bun, and the lettuce was iceberg, I prefer leafy romaine. Food is delicious, atmosphere is awesome, and the live music is the icing on the cake. Their service is great, and you can't go wrong with free ice cream. The guys next door at Rev Limit Customs are always work on something cool, and it's fun to sit at the bar, have a few drinks and watch them do their thing. read more

We went to try it for the first time. Friends had told us to try it and it also happened that we wanted to listen to the musical entertainment for the night. Liked the atmosphere as soon as we walked in. We were greeted by a friendly staff and seated immediately. Our waitress showed up almost as soon as we were seated. She was friendly and did a great job taking care of us for the evening. My wife had sweet tea and I had draft beer. We had the "barb wire" appetizer and really enjoyed it. We both had the chicken fried steak. Was a real chicken fried steak with gravy and two delicious sides. After the great appetizer we both left food on our plates. We both enjoyed our experience and I have already recommended it to several people. It was a good bargain for the food, service and atmosphere. We'll be back. THANKS for a great evening. read more

TLDR version: I had a late lunch, the service was quick, the food was good and came out quickly and I was quite pleased with the atmosphere. Longer version: I went to Cook's Garage today for a late lunch about 2:15 PM. There were about 20 other people there, some at the bar and some at other tables. I was greeted at the door and told that I could sit anywhere. Immediately after I was seated my drink order was taken by a young woman named Hailey. She was friendly, yet professional. When she brought my draft beer she took my order for a chicken fried steak, house salad and mixed vegetables. I took 4 pictures of the restaurant around me and proceeded to send them to my wife. As I was finishing up with that task, my house salad arrived. It was fresh, with plenty of croutons and dressing. I was about 1/2 way through the salad when my entrée arrived. The chicken fried steak was tender with a good fried batter coating that wasn't overly thick, my mixed vegetables included onions and mushrooms and had been grilled A large piece of Texas toast was included. I was quite pleased with the food and the speed and accuracy of service. I know that other reviewers have had long waits for their food, and I chalk that up to two things. A new business getting a grip on staffing and the kitchen getting slammed when lots and lots of orders come in at once. You see the same thing when a school bus pulls up to a restaurant and 60 kids go in. I look forward to going back and enjoying this place in the evening for live music and drinks. I order a spicy sriracha street taco. Not only was there ZERO sriracha there was also zero avocado cream sauce, plain flavorless shrimp in a corn tortilla. The chips and salsa were pretty good. Our waiter had ZERO personality. Walk-in check out the place, because the all the sign are something to see, but then go eat somewhere else. There are many restaurants in Lubbock w good chips, they may actually serve you what the menu states comes with your order. read more

The decor and signage is cool and worth seeing. The food is average to below average. The wings are forgettable and bland. The grilled chicken was flavorless, the baked potatoes were burned. This place could be legendary... but they are really in need of upping their food game to go with the cool signs. read more

We got there on a Saturday evening. Music was great. Food was cold and service was very bad. Had to hunt down our waitress as she was sitting down and visiting with other servers. The atmosphere of this place is really cool. It is the kind of place that is fun to take people to. The problem is that they are extremely slow in filling your order. It took about 50 minutes for us to get our food after ordering and they missed one of the meals. They got the last meal out about 15 minutes later that but by then everyone else was done eating, which kind of ruins the experience. The food is not exceptional, but it is not bad. The others in our party indicated the food was good. If the service was good and timely this place would be one of my go to's. Unfortunately, they miss the mark on service. I hope this changes because this could be a great place to have in Lubbock. read more

Cars!! Open just over a year serving food, this place has quickly become a popular location. Not only is the food tasty but the decor is itself an attraction. Walls filled with neon and non neon signs from days past from automotive history. This place is a must see. Live music many nights of the week and frequent events throughout the year keep this place hopping. They have amazing church fried chicken. read more

The tilapia is fabulous! I've had it several times and it's always hot and cooked to perfection. We love seeing the car and sign collection. Always music to hear and see, and the venues are awesome. This place is awesome! The only lighting is the numerous neon vintage signs the food is served in large portions at a fair price. It's worth the stop if you're passing through just for the acres of old signs and the neon inside the eatery. There was evidence that the signs may be reproductions made on site but still quite impressive. The food is lackluster and I wouldn't order a margarita from the bar...sickeningly sweet. If they'd up their game with the food and get those kids out of the kitchen and put some real cooks in there they'd be getting a five star review. Came here for the first time with my husband and daughter today around 11:15 am. We weren't sure where to enter upon driving into the parking lot at first, but we found the entrance on the southwest side of the parking lot. First of all, the service was really good and the restaurant itself is really cool, especially if you like old stuff. The music is nice and it's a laid back place that seems fun to have a relaxing gathering or meal. We ordered the Veggie Basket. It comes with fried mushroom slices, zucchini sticks and onion straws. Ordered a side of ranch and I'm glad I did. #1) The ranch is legit. (See my previous Yelp reviews...I'm a ranch freak) #2) The spicy sauce that comes with the basket is basically Tabasco and I didn't like it that much. On to lunch...I did not care for mine. The Crispy Burger was very dry and heavy handed on the pepper. I did add cheese to it, but it still felt like it needed something else. It was just a dry burger patty with cheese on top of a toasted Texas toast with some onion straws on it. Perhaps I was hoping for more of a patty melt. Throw some mayo on there or some thousand island dressing and let's see where the thing can go! My husband's burger was dry and overpeppered as well. I will try to order the burgers cooked medium next time to see if that helps with the dryness. (We weren't asked this time so the burgers were cooked well done.) The fries were so-so, but nothing special. The chicken fried steak was decent, however it needed salt. The mashed potatoes were probably my favorite thing I tried, but they hovered on the border of warm/cold. The sweet potato fries were very good. Overall, we will go back and try some other foods, however, the burgers need improving. After 2 waters and a tea, lunch came out to about $40. read more

Went for lunch today, got there about 1130. Did not look full but we were asked to wait for 15 minutes or we could eat at the bar. Sat for a few, then a party of 7 came in and were asked to wait for 15 too but then seated immediately. Would understand if they went to a big table but they were seated at 4 regular tables pushed together. Soooo... Love the decorations, food was ok, priced ok but they need a little help on service. I want this place to be awesome. It had great decor, a great menu, and great music. The food was tasty. The only problem was that we had to wait almost three hours for our food. The solution would be pretty easy I think. Open up the patio for free seating. Get a special bar menu with finger foods (nachos, sliders, and tacos perhaps) that can be prepared easily. You can have limited bar offerings too. It looked like there was space out there for us. By 9:45 we were wiped out and starving. We understand that no one wants to leave when there is great music, but it leaves customers unhappy when they can't be accommodated. Here's another idea: offer dinner customers their first drink for half price if they move to the patio to make room for customers waiting for a table. That way you can accommodate more customers -and make more money! read more

Been to this location probably 5 times now and yesterday was probably the worst service we had. It took about 10-15 minutes to get seated at 3 on a Saturday so not during rush hour. Ordered for 4 people and got an appetizer (chips & queso), 3 chicken fried chickens and the $16 steak plate. The chips ran out before the queso did and we got charged for a refill on chips after having to remind the waitress on 3 separate occasions of the refill. The Margarita we got was the size of a sippy cup and was $6 and may not even be on the menu. Food took about 40 minutes to come out. The steak was ordered medium well and came out rare-medium rare. Chicken fried chicken wasn't nearly as good as it was before and the side I ordered was loaded french fries (which I know isn't on the menu but I figured since they can make loaded potatoes with your meal french fries should be possible. The fries came out with the type of cheese that falls around a grilled cheese in the pan that is no longer gooey and a few bacon pieces and I got upcharged for that as well even though I could have gotten a loaded potato without the extra charge. Halfway through the meal my mother in law order another margarita, still unaware of the price because they are typically $2-3 elsewhere and the waitress even forgot about that until having to be reminded a second time. This was our go to place for the food that they offer but we will probably be hesitant the next time we go. On a side note...the busguy that wears the baseball hat and has the cross necklace is always on his A game and is very friendly. read more

Cook's has a large space and fun atmosphere. We had the chips and queso, sausage sandwich with side salad, and pulled pork sandwich with fries. All the food was really good. Queso and salsa have good kick. Crowd was pretty obnoxious, but it was a Friday night in Lubbock. read more

WOW!! What a great place. It is huge, but you don't feel isolated. Staff is very attentive and the food is great. Had the pulled pork, big in bun was a bit big for me but pork was good. Mac-n-Cheese was really good as well. Original nostalgic NEON signs everywhere. Live music was nice, however a bit louder than needed but maybe that's just me. Also, a working automotive restoration shop is attached. This is every automotive fans dream place and family oriented with free ice cream machine and nostalgic rides for the kids. Someone recommended Cook's Garage to us, so we thought we'd give it a try. I read the previous reviews prior to coming in, some where good and some were bad, however our experience was good. We came in on a Saturday afternoon there was live music and good atmosphere. My husband ordered the steak and it was very good, I ordered the street tacos, they were not what I consider "street tacos", however they were very good and flavorful. The waitstaff was very polite and attentive as well as the manager coming around to the tables checking on everyone. I will definitely return. read more
