Cancun is a local favorite, based on how long the wait is. We sat at the bar while we waited and were served a very weak house margarita. After we were seated, ordered, the food came and it was very good. Good size portions and served hot. Atmosphere is casual, lots of locals dine here and seem to enjoy it very well. Lots of tables 5 or more. Our server was very busy so at times we had to grab her attention for things like extra napkins and a Togo container. Yet she showed up to present the check. This was a fantastic Tex-Mex spot in Lubbock. Stopped by at a little after 5:00pm on a Friday and it was already getting packed. By the time we left at 6, not many seats left. Folks know a great restaurant around here! Started off with chips and salsa. The chips were nice and crunchy. Fresh and hot. The salsa was JUST the way I liked it. We added a small guacamole. While it was good, I think the salsa alone would have been fine. I had the Tropical Margarita and loved it. Very smooth and sweat. If you like neither, this isn't for you. For the meal, I had the Pollo Hawaiiano fajita w/ flour tortillas. Wow that was a lot of food. Great shrimp, tough chicken, great peppers & onions, awesome tortillas. I wept because I couldn't eat it all. It also came with rice & beans (both top notch) and bunch of greens where were also fresh. Cancun usually offers a "children eat free on Tuesdays" special. (Up to 2 children per adult). However, today I went in with a group of friends and the waitress said they would only do 1 child per adult. We asked if this was because we were a large group and she confirmed that the manager changed the policy when he saw us walk in the door. After a discussion (the waitress was very polite) another waitress came and explained that it's usually only 2 per table, though we know this to be false. So at this point she was lying. I asked "Do they just change the policy anytime the want?" And she confirmed that yes, the manager does that whenever he feels like it. After more discussion and showing them their own Facebook ad she left and returned with a third waitress that said it was the person who does the advertising that was at fault, not the restaurant and the would not honor the advertisements. She also told us that another table (still eating) had only 3 kids/1 adult and he gave her all 3 kids free meals (more than the usual amount) because they felt bad for her and that the manager can do whatever he wants. He didn't want to give us the 2 kids per adult and that was final. We decided to leave but a third waitress brought us tickets for the children's drinks that were supposed to be free (they didn't get to drink them. ) and had charged the full adult drink price. I gave her enough cash to cover the full adult price of the 3 drinks that had been used and not for the other 2 drinks because the children didn't get to drink them at all. This was absolutely ridiculous to deliberately over change for the "free" kids drinks after not honoring their original advertisement. Just in case you are wondering, we were a group of 13. We would have paid for 6 adults and should have gotten only 7 free kids meals. 2 if the older children with us planned to eat adult meals. NOTE: The manager refused to come speak to us himself. read more

This was some of the best Mexican food I have had in sometime. I normally do not eat everything on my plate but it was that good. I was impressed with authentic chili rellenos. Normally restaurants used poblano peppers and it just takes away from the flavor. The red chili sauce they use on their enchiladas was very good also. I didn't try the Fajitas, just wasn't in the mood this time but I can only imagine how good they must be. It is a beautiful and clean restaurant with beautiful murals on the walls, I wish I knew the painter...I would hire them to do some work in my home, lol. Can't complain about the service either, they were right there if you needed them. I just wish we had more Mexican restaurants like this in Tyler TX. We were in town over New Year's. Not many places were open, and we decided to try take out from here...I am glad we did. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. I try to eat few carbs, which can be a challenge in a Mexican spot...I ordered the Jalisco Special, which came on rice, but I am happy to report that the amount of rice was very small. It was delicious. One of us had arroz con pollo, it was very tasty. Another ordered the Pollo Michoacano, and enjoyed it. Our order was ready quickly and was still hot when we got home with it. I've been patronizing Cancun since it opened and can say, with little reservation, that it is the best and most consistent Mexican restaurant in Lubbock. The menu is filled with interesting and delicious options, service is unfailingly good, and the atmosphere is very pleasant, although it would be better still if they ditched the boob toobs. Personal favorite meals are steak chile colorado, Mexican flag enchiladas, (enchiladas rancheras) cheese enchiladas with pork tips, carnitas, chile verde and carne guisada. And if you like hot stuff be sure to request some salsa habanera. It's as good as any salsa I've had anywhere. read more

I'm surprised to see so many reviews going as far to call this place delicious. It's average at best if I'm being honest. Queso was bland, but it was a white creamy queso! Burnt tacos and dry rice. We were happy to see homemade fluffy tortillas! The service was very slow even just for our drink orders to be taken. The pricing isn't bad at all at least! $8.95 for my combination dinner. Stopped here with my daughter and two granddaughters for lunch on my way to the airport! An hour wait after being seated to receive food, then two of the four orders were WRONG! Several tables that seated after me received their food before my table. I spoke to the waitress and then to the manager, neither seemed to to care that their customer service absolutely sucked! Manager just apologized but didn't make it right. They did adjust my bill to reflect the meal I never received! Absolutely would not recommend this restaurant. I LOVE Cancun. Been going here for 10+ years. Their margaritas are the best, and the rest of their drink menu is impressive and delicious as well. My personal favorite on the food menu is the shrimp enchiladas. I switched things up yesterday and got the Pollo Cancun and my boyfriend got the steak burrito supreme, both of which were amazing! I wish I could remember our servers name, as he did an excellent job. I was taken here for the first time for a date night last night and was extremely pleased by everything. Mexican is my favorite type of food and this place was SO delicious. The chips and salsa were fresh, our waitress was such a sweetheart and very attentive, and our food came out quick. The margaritas are also super good. I had the chicken mini tacos and they are some of the best chicken tacos that I've had here in Lubbock. It was packed, but that didn't affect the service at all. The entire experience was amazing and I don't think I will be going to any other place for mexican again. I will 100% be back, and I will recommend this place to everyone I know!!! :) read more

The price for the food and drinks are a great deal! I got a Tostada de Ceviche, Fish Tacos, and a Strawberry Frozen Marg. Every Mexican restaurant has to be judged first by their salsa. To be honest it looked like the other salsas you get here in a Lubbock, but it didn't disappoint at all and you could actually scoop it! It wasn't seasoned tomato water like other places. The ceviche was a good portion and tasted good. The marg was good as well, not too sweet, not to strong or bitter. The fish tacos had lots of fish on it and it was pretty tasty and cooked right. I have been to Cancun twice, spanning a 5-year time, and I really like this place. Was very pleased with my recent visit to see that they had not declined in quality as some other Lubbock area eateries have. Went with a party of 3, and we all ate for less than $60 and each of us took home a to-go box. The quality is very good for the price. (I mean, I think my chile rellenos are better, but I didn't have to go through the trauma of making them so no complaints.) I also had a pricey but delicious margarita, which could have used a touch more alcohol, but still pretty damn good. Cancun is a good mid-level restaurant. Not a black tie steakhouse, not Taco Bell. Well worth a try. I like the Cancun Combo dinner for a lot of food for the money. With a glass of horchata, please. :) read more
