Michelle is a master teacher and she is very patient. We are convinced there are magical elves who come and fill the store at night. If you don't find what you want, it will be there the next day! It is a great place!

It's official!! I have become a YARNAHOLIC!!! Cook's Crafts is carrying the most beautiful yarns. These yarns are definitely not found in the big box stores. Some of my new favorites are Ella Rae, Feza, Knitting Fever, Marisol, etc. I'm so excited to start some new projects. Thanks Michelle.

Came on a Saturday for the knitting 101 class for $25. Amazing!!!! She was so patient and I didn't feel pressured to leave ASAP. I think I was there for like three hours. Knotted the whole way home!! Class comes with needles and yarn too. SUPER DEAL. Gotta come back for the basic jewelry class.

My finished scarf that I made thanks to Michelle!

I've gone to these guys on several occasions for projects that require very short turnaround and…read morethey have always come through for me. More often than not my orders begin with me walking into Mike's office and saying "I know this is really short notice, but can we do it?" Most recently I was tasked with outfitting approximately 25 employees with customized uniforms, including embroidery, heat press and patches. The deadline I had to work with was very short notice. I explained the situation to Mike and he got me a quote within 24hrs. When he identified issues, such as hard to find sizes or back ordered items, he worked closely with me to identify and implement solutions. When my deadline was shortened due to contractual obligations, Mike began heat pressing shirts himself to help me make my new, even shorter deadline. Through the entire process on multiple occasions, and multiple orders, Mike has helped me accomplish tasks that seemed impossible at first. I will be certainly be doing more business with On The Job in the future and can, without hesitation, recommend them to anyone. Thanks Mike and Team for all of your hard work!

M&J Trimming - The end of an era, M&J Trimmings was one of the main purveyors of novelty sewing notions in the garment district since 1938

M&J is one of those garment district institutions that's been around for nearly 90 years. They've…read morealways been one of the larger stores with a very broad assortment of sewing and design accessories--everything from hundreds of ribbons (may thousands), trims, decals, rhinestones, fabrics, supportive inner garment materials, buttons, hair/costume jewelry components, the list goes on. Agree with some other reviews in that it's one of the pricier stores though you pay for the wide variety--hard to beat their selection. The course of time hasn't been kind to local production. Back in the 1820s up until the early 1980s, when mass garment production stateside was booming in NYC, the garment district employed up to 46% of the city's industrial workforce. There was a need to design and purchase materials nearby, and the majority of Manhattan's midtown west side was dedicated to factories and design studios. Fast fwd to now, that statistic is much different and given the availability of online and global sources, not everyone needs to go into a physical store to purchase their needs. While many products have long moved to overseas sourcing, for anyone who's endeavored DIY arts and crafts, or even made any functional product by hand, it's much different seeing and feeling a material in person than on a screen. That's where in this past century, stores like M&J played a vital role in the fabric of the garment district. They are also a valuable resource to the numerous design students at FIT, Parsons, etc. During past decade many a longtime stalwart trim store have disappeared from the neighborhood and M&J is the latest casualty. If you are interested in sewing or design notions, now's your chance to pick up items at their going-out-of-business sale.

This place has been going out of business for a while, but I'm grateful it's still open. Good place…read morefor velvet ribbons and other notions.
