We went to DIY Monster and it was amazing! The space is so cute and there are so many different things you can make. My children made books, and I made a phone stand this time the first time I came, I made a hand mirror! You can honestly be there for hours decorating it's so fun and relaxing. What a great way to spend an afternoon! My friend came here a couple months ago, and I saw the phone case she made and fell in love. I've always been an arts and crafts girly, so this was right up my alley. I chose to decorate a phone case (they have both iPhone and Android). The place was pretty busy, but that was expected because it was a weekend. The staff was really helpful in getting me a seat at a table and providing me with instructions. First, I picked out my charms. They gave me a little tray to hold all of them. I was so pleased with their charm selection. They must have thousands of charms overall! There were so many to look through and choose from, it almost felt like a treasure hunt. They also organize them by color, which was super helpful because I wanted to decorate my case with a color theme. Once I had my charms picked out, I sat down at my seat and began designing my case. When I was feeling confident in my design, it was time to pipe the decocream! There are a bunch of different nozzles to choose from, all with different textures and thicknesses. The staff also gives you a demonstration of different piping methods you can use to achieve different looks. That was helpful, because I've never piped before! After I finished piping and setting my charms in, the staff took my case and placed it in a box to dry. They secured it so that it wouldn't shift or slide to the sides and cause the decocream to be ruined. They let me know that it would be 7-10 days before the decocream was fully dried, and I am just counting down the days until I can use it. Literally every time I look at it, I get excited all over again because it's so cute! Would definitely come back with a group of friends or solo again. The space was so well decorated with colorful items everywhere and neatly setup for people. There were wide selections of things we could DIY and the amount of Charms that we can choose from. From multiple shapes to different colors to multi tools to DIY the item that we chose. It wasn't too expensive for the amount of things they provided to us. So I would definitely say this is a fun activity to do with your friends or family. The employees there were quite nice and tried to get to everyone when was needed. Overall, it was good but the only was that it was overly packed even when people made reservations. So when it's packed, we had to wait for our table or wait to grab charms without bumping into people. It was a tad noisy as well with the amount of people in this space. My daughter discovered this place on TikTok and really wanted to go, so we went on Black Friday. We got here at noon, right when they opened as a walk-in with no reservations (second ones there- no wait), and they were also doing a bogo deal, lucky us. The staff were really friendly and helpful, but since there's only 2 of them, they could be overwhelmed by the amount of ppl their trying to help. They offer a huge selection of charms and about 20 DIY items you can choose from as well as paintable plaster dolls, scented candles, and fluid items. My daughter opted for the iPhone case and hair claw clip ($42 for both w/ the bogo promo). You can choose the color(s) of the frosting-like adhesive, which is in a piping bag with tip and it takes 7-10 days to fully dry. Price includes the item and all the charms you pick out that fits on it. It's definitely pricey but worth the experience, especially when you have preteens. They do private/ regular parties too, by appointment only, and can accommodate up to 30 ppl/ Min. 6 ppl. My daughter had a good time here piping and designing her own case & clip. She was so happy & loved all their Sanrio charms. Not sure if the charms will stay on permanently after it's fully dry since some were already coming out in the box, but only time will tell. read more

Taking arts and crafts to a new level. This is the spot for the creative and artsy crowd. Not only do they offer beading, painting, crafting, there's candle making and custom keychains too. Lots to see and so many options of themed charms. Stickers and canvases are available too, to add to your custom design ideas. This is a cute space for you to "DIY" anything... Even your own cell phone case. Just check in at the desk beforehand so you can pick the item you want. I believe they take reservations so it is suggested if you're going on the weekend. Place gets packed even with such a large space. Price list is just the base price. Be mindful of add-on's which are not labeled but know if it's a figurine, a larger piece or fancier, chances are there could be an upcharge. I don't like that it's not disclosed but I was lucky to be within earshot of another customer there with her two kiddos and they apparently spent well over than planned. Please check with the staff before glueing anything down or be prepared to pay. Zelle and Android pay options available if you don't have cash. There are many character themed items to choose from. Tweezers and embellishments available, just ask. Glitter or colored glue options available too. I was here with three others and we spent about two hours in total. Note: business is located on the second floor. There is no elevator and their hours are noon-9pm. Give yourself extra five - ten minutes to use the hot air dryer after you're done decorating, this is to ensure your goodies are adhered to your items properly. And usually less is more but not here. We made a reservation for 3 on a Saturday. We ended up decorating 2 mirrors, 1 jewelry box, and a hair clip. You decide what you want to decorate, then you pick out charms from a seemingly endless selection, then you get a demo on how to use the glue, and then you get to have the most fun. I loved it. Decent value for a fun, lighthearted, and stimulating activity. You pay based on the item you decide to decorate (phone cases, storage boxes, mirror/photo frames, hair clips, bracelets, etc). Expect to pay ~30-$50 per person if you do one of the bigger things. The great thing is, they don't charge based on charms, so you can layer as many decorations you want and not have to worry about the price. This is a great date activity, whether platonic, romantic, or solo. You really get into your creative side, whether you decide to do a theme by color, style (coquette, etc), or just by the look you like! I was floored by the sheer plethora of charm varieties here. I didn't expect the decorating experience to be so short, and the longest part just being picking charms! I would say you probably spend 70% of the time gathering charms, 15% of the time doing a sample layout, and the last 15% doing the piping/frosting. Charms are divided both in size, color, and purpose (some beads are there for jewelry/etc), and for an extra premium cost, you can get blind boxes and larger toys as well. Make a reservation by calling in advance or messaging the studio on IG to secure a seat for your party. When my partner and I arrived on a rainy Saturday afternoon, the place was overflowing with girls engaging in their primitive gathering instincts. It was wild, and honestly--a little overwhelming, because the space to look at charms isn't enough. You may be in each other's business or having to wait to see a certain section of charm. Generally the staff here will teach you how to do everything, so you just need to come on time! They then pack everything up for you in a special box that allows you to admire your work on your subway ride home. They generally suggest you let it air dry undisturbed for 7-10 days! I will definitely consider coming back the next time I have some girlfriends in town. This would be a great to spend the day and possibly do a Flushing food tour afterwards. +you get a free decorated hair clip if you post a story or post on your IG! We walked in with no reservation and we were able to grab a 2 seats and choose our clips and AirPod case to decorate. The attendant was super cute and helpful and encouraging. We had our daughter's birthday party at Monster DIY Studio yesterday. The young lady who works there is a true professional. She managed the entire day by herself and all of our young guests were taken care of by her. She taught them how to decorate with the decocream and packaged each creation beautifully. She also allowed me to come the night before to set up so that everything would be seamless in the morning. She even gifted my daughter a cute stuffie at the end of the party! This is such a unique place for all ages to do a calm, creative activity for an hour. It took my girls 30 mins to just browse their millions of charms. Hands down the best addition to flushing for anybody who loves adorable and cute things. I have been to another DIY place before, but now Monster DIY will be my official go to place for handmade gifts for myself, friends and family. What made them stand out wasn't only their huge selections of crafts to do, but was their amazing two staff members working that day, Michelle and Aiki. When it wasn't busy they were so helpful and attentive to our group, and even when it got busy and they were helping others, they would come to us straight after they were done whenever we requested for help. So don't be shy to ask for help, because they made the process more fun and easier. I am terrible at frosting so I asked them for help with ideas and if they could do the base for me and it was amazing to work with the experts! Quick tip: Even on weekdays they get super busy. I would say if you have a group of 5-6 go between 12-12:30 to get a table to yourselves, but anytime after that I feel like it would be very hard to get a table with your whole group. If you were like a smaller group(1-3) you would probably end up sharing with other smaller groups if it was super busy, which was definitely full after 1pm on a Thursday (president's week). read more

I came here on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. I made a reservation on Instagram but I feel like you can just walk in if you're coming on a weekday or a Sunday. I think Saturday is probably the busiest day. I picked a medium hair claw ($23) and my friend picked a small hand held mirror ($23). The price included tools, unlimited charms (just don't pick packaged large charms which were extra), glue, paint, glitter, and a cute plastic box to carry it home. Tax was also included since it's cash only (Venmo and Zelle available too). I think it's worth it since there's a large selection of charms, different colored glue piping bags, and large selection of items to make. The staff were nice and helpful but I do wish they would give instructions if it's your first time though. My friends and I had a blast here!! I made a reservation (although you don't need one, just good to have). They answered immediately on Instagram and booked me right away! Upon arrival, we were overwhelmed with the charm selection and amount of crafts we could get into. Ultimately, I went for a fan and handheld mirror, and my friends did phone straps and a mirror as well. We did have to ask for a bit of direction (you really are left to your own devices, but in a good way), but other than that, it's completely intuitive. It did eventually get incredibly crowded so go early or make sure you arrive for your allotted time. The studio is a bit small and space is limited.
