This was my first time at Newtown HQ after seeing their page all over my IG! There's an amazing selection of toys and knick-knacks from a wide variety of brands. I personally decided to stop by during their Sonny Angel restock. Pricing is SO fair ($10.88 tax included for a regular Sonny). That is UNHEARD of nowadays and I truly respect shops who do not partake in price gouging. It's clear that Cindy (owner) cares so much about her customers. She was so ready to answer any questions and helped customers look for certain collections. Not to mention, there was a local crochet business who was selling her crafts outside the store (we love businesses who support other businesses)! I will definitely stop by Newtown HQ again! As someone who went to high school in Astoria not too far away from this adorable shop, my teen self would have been so broke if this existed when I was a student there! Any pop culture lover, neighborhood enthusiasts, small business lookers is going to absolutely adore Newtown HQ! The staff is all wonderful, incredibly friendly and personal! I followed their instagram handle before I got a chance to visit their personal location, and they do so many pop up events or themed days to support fellow neighborhood small businesses! Newtown HQ is a fairly small space, but it is packed with an amazing variety and selection of blind box figurines, small stuffed animals, and other cute gifts. I came specifically for their Smiskis, which sell for an extremely reasonable $10. I was able to find a box from the Work series, which mysteriously has sold out in a lot of other locations. My friend and I have visited this store plenty and always had great experiences with the staff but this time, the owner appeared out of nowhere, incredibly nasty and we're still not sure why. With the holidays coming up, I've now started to earnestly look for gift ideas. And as much as I love the convenience of Amazon, I've decided to try to shop local as much as possible this year. Luckily, there are several great stores in Astoria that fits this bill. Newtown HQ has been opened for almost two years (?) but this is the first time I've been inside. There are so many fun and interesting items here! The boutique itself is tiny but they really jam pack it with a variety of things. Expect to spend a bit of time looking around. I found Tokidoki bags, plushies, toys, collectibles, stationery, anime merchandise and clothing. The items here are definitely geared toward a younger (than me) and hipper demographic. Still I had a blast checking out the store. I chuckled at the cat lovers section and the various hats they had for cats. And I was tempted to buy the socks with Bob Ross' face on it. So funny and cute. In the end, I got a extra large mug shaped liked a bear. Newtown HQ is a woman owned small boutique. Let's all support stores like these this holiday! read more

Stopped by here on a rainy day in the area to browse for smiski blind boxes! They've got a decently large selection, and at the same price as online, so it's pretty worth! In addition to the smiski and Sonny's Angel, they've got a ton of other goodies. Pins, cards, stickers, wall art, tote bags, and more. I picked up a cute NYC pigeon card for my friends upcoming birthday here. Overall, great variety in the space they've got, and some quality content! I'd return next time I'm in the area. read more

One of my favorite stores in all of Queens! I love the selection at Newtown HQ, they are extremely fair with their pricing and the folks who work there are super helpful and sweet! I keep trying to give newtown HQ a chance again and again, but enough is enough. Never have I ever came into this store and felt like I was not being racially profiled. I wanted to support a Hispanic owned business so badly I kept coming back. The owner is beyond awkward please don't try to make convo because you are already being profiled. The man who works there too stands right next to you watching over your shoulder and often follows guest of color around the store. They don't even try to hide the fact that they are following you as if you will steal. The vibes are mainly the worst on event days like Sonny angel drops etc the owner seems overstimulated and angry during these times (insane for a business owner) .... so cute as a store, but the vibes were truly off. i went here with my sister yesterday. i felt racially profiled as i was followed around the store & offered a basket for the two things i had in my hand. we also were offered no greeting upon entering. really hurts because this place has the potential to be a staple for me!! as a black woman, i'm used to this stuff, but it was just even more off putting and upsetting for this to happen here, while showing my little sister around the area i live. also, it was so strange because the employees were obviously POC as well. overall, cute items & i may go back but hopefully with different people at the register read more

Let me start by saying every time i enter this store it always has the most amazing vibes, and everyone i recommend to go to Newtown says the same exact thing. I usually go here to get my sonny angels and stickers but they have a wide selection of different items. The price point is amazing too, usually when i go to other stores to get blind boxes they charge a lot but newtown stays true to the actual prices of items. I don't agree with the other reviews about the website usually I always do in-store pickup in this store and the website is easy to handle and my order is always ready extremely fast. If you do want to stay on top of updates in the shop I do suggest you follow newtown on Instagram the owner is extremely informative and you can't help but to love the shop even more when you see how much of a sweetheart she is on social media and in person. 10/10 one of the best places to visit in Astoria!!! read more

While this store may look cute and very friendly, the owner is extremely rude. I went today to pick up my order and the whole time i felt judged. While waiting for my order I was browsing around and the whole entire time the cashier was staring me down not letting me do anything. I came here today during a store restock not particularly for Sonny Angels but just to browse the store. The door was locked when I tried to come in and a worker came out saying they weren't letting people in due to "crowd control." There was max 4-6 people inside. Then she asked me if I was there for the Sonny Angels and I said no, she went back in, came back out and still wouldn't let me in. She told me to come back in a couple of HOURS. That's insane and terrible customer service. This store definitely has an "exclusive" vibe to it for people who shop regularly for certain collectibles like Sonny Angels or whatever else; I guarantee if I was recognized as a regular I would have been let in. Anyways, I'm not going back, and beware the restock days if you're just trying to support the business and not buy a Sonny Angel (which you can just order directly from their site BTW, it's not that crazy). read more

i aint cool ,i aint hip , but cool hip shops like newton hq in astoria keeps me in the loop of whats trendy. a nice colorful store with a bunch of campy stuff for young gals and older hip chicks who dig artsy novelty trinkets , like graphic socks , carry bags , toys , jewelry, acessories , stickers , plushies, etc. my gal cuz likes to get her coffee mugs with novelty quotes written on the mugs and now i got one as well. i dont get most of the stuff here and as i stated i aint hip or cool enough to understand it all but having a phd in hip and coolness is not necessary when visiting newton hq in astoria . p.s. i had to get a pair of the funky colorful socks . read more
