She has a contract with Ralph Lauren and has some other famous customers who she preferred I did not mention. She has items you can purchase or you can bring your items in for monogramming. This place is the rudest store I've ever dealt with. They told me it would take a week to monogram Christmas stockings. It's been over three weeks and when I call, they refuse to even take my name!!! I am an interior designer and I frequently use Monogram Cottage for client projects. There are very few local resources for monograms and I am so glad Monogram Cottage is here. Daphne always does beautiful work and my clients are always thrilled with the results. She has a huge selection of thread colors and is always very helpful and gives great advice about what monograms work well for different pieces. For instance, I was going back and forth between two options for towels and she showed me that one option monograms better on towels, while the other is more appropriate for sheets or something with less pile. I really rely on Monogram Cottage for my projects and I would definitely encourage people to try it out! read more

Found this place by google searching "monogramming nyc" ...only 2 places came up. This had a cuter name so I went to their website and emailed them through the "contact us" link. I had a response within just a few hours. -They allow customers to bring in their own product to be monogrammed....which is FABULOUS. -Pricing is right about where it should be. -Lead time is about a week during the busy Christmas holiday. I can't say enough about the level of professionalism and the quality of work that Monogram Cottage produced. Daphne was so pleasant with me and was very patient with helping pick out thread colors and positioning my logos on towels and robes for my upscale salon in Chelsea, NY. I am so happy with the results and how prestige my robes and towels look in my salon and it's all thanks to Daphne, the turnaround was so quick it was unbelievable. After a amazing job she did with the salons towels and robes, I also had her do my towels, shower curtain and robe for home as well. HORRIBLE!! Ruined brand new Matouk towels from Bloomingdales. When I called her she wouldn't take responsibility for what happened (look at the pictures!!) -botched monograms, rust stains along the machine imprints in the fabric, and the loops of terry pulled right out. She finally said she would repay for return shipping through UPS to look at them and re-do the monogram (which I cringe about but I couldn't return the towels) then said she wouldn't pay for return shipping after I was already at UPS... beyond inadequate at monogramming, disgusting business practices, don't do business with this woman. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The owner was INCREDIBLY rude. I wanted to be sure that the placement of the monogram would be in the correct spot and that there wasn't going to be an issue of mix ups with different initials and different pajamas (since I was getting my bridesmaids gifts monogrammed there) and the owner gave me the WORST attitude about it. I wanted to be assured nothing was accidentally going to be messed up and she just gave me the worst attitude. Basically saying, if we mess up, oh well. I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend coming here. The customer experience was so bad I needed to make sure everyone know and I hardly write elp reviews. Update: She ended up screwing up 2 of my PJs! I came in to pick them up and I knew she remembered who I was. I look to make sure the correct initials were on the correct set of PJs since I had 6 sets and she ended up writing the same initials on 2 sets of PJs. Both were wrong as a third set with the right size had the correct initials. When I first came in she gave me the BIGGEST attitude about how she doesn't need to reassure her customers that things won't get messed up because she's been doing it for a long time. Well, looks like someone was full of BS. My wedding was in 3 days and she took 2 days to fix the two sets of PJs and have them sent by messenger. DON'T GIVE RUDE BUSINESS OWNERS WITH AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE YOUR BUSINESS INCLUDING MONOGRAM COTTAGE. Save your frustration and definitely go somewhere else. read more

I sincerely think the one star reviewer must have misunderstood the situation because I found the proprietor, Daphne, to be so incredibly honest and honorable. She has told me straight up more than once how long potential orders would take due to the number she had ahead of me (a testament to her fantastic work in itself) and she knew she might lose the job if she were honest but she still was and she did lose it! Then. I only pulled the trigger and placed the order this time because it was for me and I had the waiting time to spare. I, like this other reviewer clearly, am usually a procrastinator when buying gifts and ordinarily need to get things back sooner than would be possible at Monogram Cottage. But now that I have seen Daphne's exceptional and uncommonly good work in person, I will make sure that I order as far in advance (usually a week or a bit less, so really not long at all) as I need to. She is incredibly talented and offers unique fonts that no one else has, more thread colors than I knew even existed AND is willing to embroider your own linens if you bring them in, which is rare in this "make a quick buck" world. It is a very small operation and I am sad that someone took their own misunderstanding, which has nothing to do with the actual quality of the product, and tried to hurt a little hardworking business in a world now overrun with big box chain stores. I hope genuine artisans like Daphne are able to survive and thrive and I want to support such endeavors, not bring them down because I am frustrated by my own poor time management. read more

The first time I went here it was smooth sailing. I had a bunny rabbit and blanket monogrammed for my niece. The 2nd time was a different story. I wanted to have a sun hat monogrammed for my niece and I provided her full name to the owner and she told me it would be ready by that Friday. I arrive that Friday to pick up the gift (since I knew I would be seeing my niece that weekend) and the name is spelled wrong. Blatantly spelled wrong. The owner/woman at the desk apologized and said she'd have it done for me within 3-5 days. A little ridiculous seeing as though I was the one being inconvenience (you think she'd work a little harder) but whatever. I let it go and said fine. About 10 days later I realized I never heard back from the owner. I decided to call and get this--it wasn't even done or ready! So not only did she not stick to her promise of getting it done ASAP, if I forgot to call or wasn't on top of things, she would have kept my $$ and I never would have received anything. By now, I was very annoyed and even asked for some sort of discount or refund since I was being TOTALLY inconvenience (and not my fault). Her response was that she is making another hat for me (for free) and it is either I take a new hat or get a refund. But I can't get a new hat for free. Ridiculous and poor people skills. I finally went today to pick up the hat and she was helping another customer and she was knee deep helping someone else and went to the back and got my hat and just handed it to me. That's it. I was never greeted or given a thank you. I checked the hat (since last time she was a bit hooked on phonics) to ensure the spelling was correct and thanked her and walked out. The lack of professionalism did it for me. Although I had a good first experience and at the end of the day I got what I needed the 2nd time, I believe that if I did not call back, she never would have fixed the product I paid for. And I still believe that the customer is always right (which I TOTALLY was in this case) and I should have received some sort of discount for being inconvenienced. First experience with them and I've had so much trouble with their customer service. I brought a wedding gift in for monogramming and have had the most difficult time trying to solidify my order. I've sent multiple emails with questions about the timing and specifications of my order, with no reply. And when I call, I'm told the email person is different than who is in the store - so they can't help me. I've already paid and rarely ever write reviews but the customer service has been so poor I want to flag it for others! I'm sorry to say that since posting this comment the shop called me to say they had cancelled my order and asked me to come pick up my item. I received a refund, but no explanation. If you need to get something monogrammed and live in Manhattan... this is the place to go! I dropped off my weekender bag hoping I could get it back within two days. I was told normally it would take 5 business days but she would make an exception for me and I picked it up the next day! The monogram looks great and exactly what I wanted. The owner of the shop is low keep so that can give you a feeling of "hmmm, am I at the right place", but I needed a set of sheets monogrammed within three days so I went for it. Could not have been happier with the monogram. My pieces came out beautiful. The only thing the shop lacks is bags. Not a small detail! The business should definitely make that small investment. It would add a lot to the finished product. Other than that, good work and a good "go to" place for monogramming. Second visit - strong recommendation. This place is TERRIBLE! The first time (about two years ago), I brought beautiful Matouk towels to be monogrammed and they used the WRONG monogram font. The woman told me she could fix it, pulled out the stitching and replaced with the correct monogram, but in the process ruined the towels. Unfortunately, I decided to give them a second chance and brought my daughter's school backpack to be monogrammed, and AGAIN, they used the wrong monogram. I had a bad feeling once I stepped in the door but decided to stay due to such positive Yelp reviews. This place turned out to be the biggest waste of my time and money. I wanted to have my dog's bed cover monogrammed and there were very few options in Manhattan. The only worker was in the back and she did not care to come assist me until I walked in the back to grab her attention. She came to the front and gave me a book of examples. I couldn't decide between two options and asked which she thought would be better based on her experience. She shook her head and said "it's whatever you want". OK fine. I chose my font, told her where and how I wanted the letter to appear, paid for it, and left. One week later, I get a call for pick up and I am eager to pick up my dog's bed cover. It was the same lady who was working there. I was disappointed with the turnout as soon as I looked at it and it was obvious on my face but all the lady did was ask if I had a bag (luckily I brought one b/c she didn't) and went to the back. The font was tiny compared to my bed cover (25 inches wide). After a few minutes of trying to talk myself into keeping it, I went to the back and explained that I was expecting a larger font. She dismissively answered "your dog's name is too long, we do not have a machine large enough for that size". His name is GOLIATH- I wouldn't consider that long by any means. And I even if it were the case that it was too long or if the machine was not going to accommodate a font size large enough to fit the bed accordingly, shouldn't she have told me when I dropped off the product?? I ended up removing the monogram myself, stich by stitch. Needless to say, I will not be back nor do I recommend this place. read more

This place is really good. I have had so many baby gifts, robes, and bags etc. monogrammed here. The selection of monograms and colors are great. They have unique fonts which I really like. Last year I did quite a few holiday gifts here. Never a problem. Never. I just dropped 2 robes off this weekend for monogramming. Highly recommend and obviously I am a repeat customer. I would suggest going in and doing it in person as it will take less time. I have read some of the other reviews and yes the woman who works there is not super friendly but she is not mean either. And the quality and work are excellent. That matters more to me. Friendly you can get other places and then the work is shoddy. No thank you... read more

I just had a frustrating experience at Monogram Cottage and thought I would share so others don't have to deal with anything similar. I ordered two gifts on Tuesday and paid for them. I was told they would be ready on Thursday at 11 am. I went in on Friday around 10:45 in the morning to pick them up and the owner (who is the only person there as far as I can see) told me they were not ready. I asked why and the owner just repeated, "They are not ready". I asked, "Why aren't they ready?" and she said, "Now that doesn't matter does it. We need to move forward. Can you come back?" I explained that knowing why might help me understand the situation. She replied, "I have something else on the monogram machine now. Can you come back?" I asked when she would want me to come back. And she said, "I can't say, but can you come back?" which was very confusing to me. I explained that whether or not I could come back for the gifts depended on when they would be ready, because I needed them for parties on Saturday and Sunday. She said, "It depends on how many customers come into the store". So I asked, "Are we talking a half hour, 3 hours, next week?" And she said 1.5 hours. I looked at my watch and saw it was 10:45 and said, "Okay, so I'll come back at 12:15 and they should be ready?" And she did not answer. I repeated my question and she said, "I don't know, whatever 1.5 hours is from now". At this point, I decided to ask for a refund. She had been rude from the moment I had come in to the store, and this unnecessarily snarky response was the last straw. This whole situation was entirely avoidable. I explained that if she had just answered my question honestly at the beginning- explaining why my order got pushed back and when I should come back, or apologized for the delay, or SOMETHING, then I would have been fine with it because I know that things come up. I communicated with this store via their Customer Service first, before I brought in my fiancee's French cuff shirt for monogramming. I live in the neighborhood so I wanted a convenient monogrammer who would do a nice job. They had a multitude of thread colors, which was nice, as well as some fonts to peruse for the initials. I was looking at the various monogrammed items around the store asking what color thread each one used, admittedly a bit of an annoying question, but I wanted to get an idea of how various threads actually appeared on white cloth. The store attendant was a little on the reserved side, and I am by nature friendlier and was a bit inquisitive and unsure since it was my first time monogramming a men's shirt (and it's for our wedding). They did a solid job on the monogram and it was ready when they said it would be. The monogram cost $15 which was on par with what I was quoted elsewhere. I would return. read more

The WORST experience I have ever had in a retail shop. I came in to the store with a very special baby gown meant to be used as the precious hospital take home outfit. I explained to the lady/owner (daphne) how important it was for me to have this outfit completed within the designated time horizon, being that I am 9 months pregnant. I called today (the day before the pickup) to let her know I would be there in the morning. The man who answered the phone seemed very confused. He then passed the phone to Carl, who had trouble finding my outfit and then told me it wasn't completed and wouldn't be completed because Daphne was on vacation and wouldn't be back for 2 more weeks. Carl used many excuses to cover for their irresponsibility "it was an oversight, she was busy, she didn't have the time, etc". I told him I would be at the store this evening by 7:00 to pick it up-within their hours listed on the site. He told me they close at 6:00 due to summer hours and they would not even stay open to accommodate my work/traveling schedule even after I plead with him. Their careless attitude and nonchalant "apology" have completely turned me off. RUN FROM THIS STORE! THEY ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED! Not only am I distressed about not getting the service I hoped for, their lack of compassion was even worse. They should hang their heads in shame. read more

This company is so fabulous and convenient! This store has two branches, one in Dobbs Ferry, which I've used quite successfully, and one in Manhattan on 78th street - both are amazing and efficient. I had the owner personalize all my bridesmaids gifts when I got married last year, and coincidentally my mom and friends got me personalized gifts from the Monogram Cottage too, which I still have and cherish. The great thing is that if you order the product through them personalizing is included, and as an alternative they will personalize almost anything you bring in! Also, their prices are more than reasonable considering if you would have ordered it online it would take forever, wouldn't be able to customize your item as much, and you would probably be charged an arm and a leg for shipping! I have gotten many wedding/bridal presents, holiday gifts, and at the rate my friends are getting married, probably baby gifts soon! Couldn't recommend this place more for quick, easy, and QUALITY personalized gifts. read more
