Lisa's is still my favorite greeting card store in the hood. It's not hard for me to find cute items in the discount bin. It's also not hard for me to spend a lot on one of a kind keepsake items. I usually write 5 star reviews for most businesses and I wish I could for this. I called last night and placed an order- the lady I spoke with was super nice. I told her I needed balloons for my daughters 1st birthday the following day. I sent a picture of the birthday sign to match balloons to her personal phone (I thought that was very nice of her to provide it). My husband picked up the 12 balloons at 6:15pm last night. This morning they were deflated, I called the store and the gentleman who picked up said the helium lasts only 7hrs. Fair enough - 1st time throwing a kids birthday but I wish the lady from the night before had informed me. Still would've given 5 stars. But then I hear the manager? in the background say "I don't believe that customer wasn't told." Maybe he should've spoken to the lady associate before accusing a customer of lying and lowered his voice to be discreet if he were smart. I say I can hear what was said and the associate gets super defensive and puts the blame on me. In desperation I order the balloons again but cancel a minute later. Too many things to do and no time for another balloon pickup. Very stressful way to start a 1st birthday party! I did appreciate the lady associate from the prior evening text to apologize. Will I shop here again? Absolutely. I support small businesses and woman owned businesses and we all make mistakes. read more

One day while rushing to a party I had to pick up multiple gifts. Figuring this was New York City I could dive into a Duane Reade or something to pick up some stuff, but when I saw Lisa's on Second pop up in my Yelp app search results I figured I'd give it a shot and boy, am I glad I did! Hallmark shops are not just about cards nowadays. They often have a variety of gifts for children and adults alike (which was great, because I needed one of each). This store is fairly large for a Manhattan card ship and this allows them to have a wide variety of cards and gifts at the same time. It only took me minutes to find everything I was looking for. Bonus? When you purchase a gift there they will wrap it FOR FREE. I was ready to pay a few bucks extra but nope, not necessary. Even better? They did a much better wrapping job than I could ever hope to do. Lisa's on Second is the type of business I remember seeing a lot of when I was a kid, and it's a bit more rare now so I am very happy that this one exists and I will definitely be back for my gift needs if I am in the area. read more

I had an unusually unpleasant experience at Lisa's today. I have been to Lisa's several times and Lisa has always been very kind and very helpful. As are the two older men who work with her. However today I was absolutely shocked at my experience at this store. I overheard (it wasn't hard because they were screaming) the baldish younger employee who often wears white t shirt (I know this because I frequent this store) getting unnecessarily angry and loud and threatening at a customer because they asked if they could get gift wrapping. I understand not having gift wrapping and being annoyed at a demanding customer. However this employee demanded the customer leave and never come back, yelled loudly across the store for over ten minutes about how horrible the customer was, threatened to the customer "not to mess with him" and continued to smack talk the customer loudly after they left. He said that if this customer were to come back he was going to lose it and go off on them. I felt like this employee had a really difficult time controlling his temper don't think this is appropriate for any workplace. I feel like this employee could have been close to becoming violent (given his raised voice, foul language and continued anger even after the customer left and he needed to go cool off in another room) and I never want to go into a store where I think an associate could get violent or even raise their voice in such a way to me or any customer. I love Lisa and her products and would happily change this review to a higher rating after I have been assured this employee has been talked to. Not a pleasant experience at all and really doesn't go with the kind ideals of a mom-and-pop shop. read more

I used Lisa's on Second to create and deliver balloons for my daughter's 5th birthday. They went out of their way to check their stock, and open delivery boxes to check the recent shipment for me. They helped me pick colors to match, and even sent me pictures so I did not need to come in. The staff could not have been more patient and kind. They made a working Mom's life much easier. Fantastic experience with Lisa's on 2nd Ave! We discovered the store because they are on the preferred vendor list at the 92NY (we were hosting a big party at the 92NY). The store's owner, Lisa, helped us develop a gorgeous color scheme for about 40 balloons that complemented our event space beautifully. The staff at the store also helped me problem-solve how to inflate a 70-inch specialty balloon (purchased elsewhere) and deliver it to the venue. The store's customer service is terrific, and their balloon delivery fee is very reasonable. This place is an Upper East Side gem. And it's my new go-to balloon place! read more

For Christmas, my mother in law had picked up a couple of learning toys for our son. When we opened them we discovered that the battery in one of the toys had leaked and rendered the toy inoperable.. After moving back to the UES after several years away I was surprised to see Lisa's in a new location. The good news is their selection is still great and better than before. The bad news the two women working there were unnecessary rude! Why must people working at stores that appear so positive be so mean ans negative. If you are careless enough to not put prices on the items in your store then you should expect people to ask you what things cost. But I guess she thought it was good customer service to sarcasticly tell me I can go in the back and find out myself...(in my head I'm thinking BITCH!) Meanwhile I heard them complaining to some other women about inflating her balloon (a service they offer btw!)
