When I made the conscious decision to pierce my nose more than 4 years ago, I thought it would be a piece of cake to change my nose rings once my piercing healed. Here we are 4+ years later and taking out nose jewelry feels like an operation itself. I've been coming to Sam to get my occasional change for as long as I've had my nose pierced and he's always been very professional. Never had an issue with my piercing since coming here. By no means is he gentle but he is efficient and he knows what he's doing. I don't really know other places that will change your piercing for you but this has been my go-to because it's always easy and his prices are reasonable. I will say that the operating hours are tricky because I have stopped by on several occasions during their open hours where they're not opened yet or are on break, but it's not the biggest issue. Awful unprofessional straight up rude. Used to come here since 2009 when I was 16 for illegal piercings. Now that it's been over ten years I'm surprised that he hasn't had lawsuits ... Also I'm licensed to tattoo and Pierce in NYC. The front desk girl pierces people without a license and claims it's not needed. Materials are not always sanitized. This is what you get for a cheap price. Cheap service. Go get pierced in Manhattan or Brooklyn. Other professionals actually follow Association of Professional Piercing (APP) guidelines!! He follows maybe like 25% of the protocol. If you call him out on price change or BS in general he will say you're not a customer after spending money to get ripped off. I came to Sam a few times during my high school and college years. I recently went there and dragged my friend along on Black Friday to get my helix and third lobe pierced. He was running a Black Friday special and it was $29 for any needle piercing. My friend and I were lucky to get there when we did because the line was very long right after. The staff took down my name and number to keep track of the people. For my lobe piercing, I decided to use the piercing gun since there's no cartilage. It was quick and painless. What was originally supposed to be a single helix piercing became a double helix piercing. After all, why not hit two birds with one stone and let all the piercings heal at the same time. Sam was very knowledgeable and knew what he is doing. My friend ended up getting her helix pierced after seeing mine done. As there were too many people on the line to get their piercings done, everyone was directed to look on their Instagram for their aftercare instructions. The instructions were very self explanatory. As COVID cases rise, there should be an expectation of wearing masks especially while indoors. With two folks including Sam staffed in the back, the client and mask-less child, everyone had their respective mask not covering mouth and nose. At this point, these masks were chin-guards. We came on behalf of my sister, who decided she needed to get a piercing. We figured we'd wait by the front to distance until it was just Sam in the back (the other staff member leaving at this time presumably the end of their shift), and then ask him to put on his mask when working. When she eventually sat in the back and asked him, "Can you put your mask on properly?" I was a little taken aback to hear his response, "It's hard to talk... Make sure yours is on." Not only somewhat disrespectful, but concerning. My sister specifically came to get a helix piercing, and it was clear Sam knew exactly what he was doing. He is very skilled in his work and there is no doubt about that, piercing my sister's with a needle quickly while simultaneously walking my sister through the aftercare. As he talked however (his mask not properly on most of the time even after asking), there was constant fear I had throughout the process watching from the front. I'm not leaving this review to be menacing especially during a time where small businesses are going through trying times. This is just something I wish I knew prior to arriving. With NYC cases rising, we need to do our best to ensure our own safety as well as the ones around us. At the end of the day, we did move forward with the piercing. He's careful when it comes to disinfecting both the space and the area of the piercing. He's also very informative with after care instructions along with the time of healing. By following his instructions carefully, I never had any real issues with the piercing and it also healed fairly quickly. I have visited him about 4 times in the last year, I got upper lobe, forward helix, and belly button -- my sister got helix done by him and all of our piercings healed quickly. Very sweet guy, would recommend anyone and everyone to get their mental breakdown piercing here. But foreal, very professional and fast, as well as cheap. The price includes the initial piercing, but if you would like a hoop, it would be $10-15 dollars more for a silver or gold plated hoop. Honestly, I don't know. My friends always talked about the piercings they got from sam and I gave in to see the hype. My first piercing from him was a helix around november 2019. Everything was fine, I listened to his instructions and my helix had no issues. I don't remember how long he said it would take to heal, but I remember it being past the timeframe he told me so I assumed that it was healed. However, because of Covid, I could not go out to get it changed out. So I was stuck with the same bar I was pierced with for a very long time until recently in august I came with my two friends. He took a look at my helix and told me it shifted so badly... I didn't even know this was a thing because I was NOT informed anything about cartilage piercings migrating AT ALL. All I was told was how to take care of it, but I was never told what could happen. I did my own research and saw that many people suggested to downsize it. Like I said, I couldn't go out because of Covid but it would've been VERY helpful if I was informed about this in the first place. And I wasn't. Another thing was my friend was thinking about getting their navel pierced but Sam had them STAND up to get it pierced. This made my friend really nervous and it made me questioned his procedure. They decided to not get it. I've actually looked it up whether it's common or not to get a navel done pierced while standing but it seems rare to me. I don't know the reason behind getting it done while standing but regardless, my friend did not feel comfortable and I wanted them to feel safe. Don't get me wrong, sam is not a bad piercer. I've seen the piercings hes given my friends and they looked beautiful. But personally, I don't think I would go back. I strongly advise calling before you go there, The 1st time I went there after talking to the owner who said he would be there soon but the shop was still closed & he said he'll be there at 3 instead of 12. I couldn't wait as I had to go to work. The 2nd time I called to make sure the store was open & it was. I got my 2nd lobe piercing done for the 2nd time (I got it 10 years ago for the 1st time but closed it a few months later). It was super cheap, each piercing is only $5 ( for earlobe gun piercings only, cartilage needle piercings are $25), so I paid $10 for both earlobe piercings. Responding to store owner's review - I'm a little taken aback at being called fake. I do have the receipts for my purchase and piercings to prove it, if need be. I like this place overall. If I need to clarify, it's that I don't know I'd want to do something like a nipple or tongue piercing here only due to my own comfort levels with the space. Some people are a little more concerned with how a space looks and how that affects the cleanliness. This could be the cleanest piercing shop on the planet.
