I was mislead by the supervisor working at the time who informed me that I could return the one earring that I had purchased as long the earring was returned in the period of days specified on the receipt. I returned the one earring because I felt the earring was overpriced. To my disappointment the supervisor who informed me that I could return the one earring in as long as it was in the two week period as specified on the receipt. After reading the great reviews online, I decided to come here for a consult on piercings and to change some older jewelry. The good reviews could not be more accurate. OK so, I had such a great experience at True Expression getting my helixes (helices??) pierced, my first attempt at this review was practically a gotdamb novella. This place is stellar! After paying my first visit today, I can see why their Yelp page has a perfect 5-star rating. True Expression is a beautiful little piercing studio right by the Queens Center Mall. Paul, the owner, is such a stand up guy - knowledgeable, passionate about what he does, and truly professional. I had a bit of a piercing emergency that happened very much outside of business hours. I did not get my cartilage piercings done at this studio, but when I emailed the shop, Paul was extremely kind and gracious to respond within minutes, look at photos of my agitated piercings, and offer advice. He did not have to, but did so happily. Moreover, when I decided I'd rather have the issue looked at in person, he squeezed me in promptly the next day. When I went in, I was impressed with the level of professionalism I experienced and sanitary precautions taken, both of which are absolute "musts" for me when it comes to piercings. Paul helped inspect and clean my angry ear, and gave me in depth instructions on the best aftercare to help it calm down. He even drew little diagrams to explain the best cleaning method in detail. Great experience!! I came to reopen an earlobe piercing which closed on one side. Staff was very punctual and ready for me when I walked in. Welcoming and friendly Very clean, masks must be worn and hands sanitized. Yes even if you have your shots which I appreciate given the service they provide. All of their paperwork is also digital which I appreciated. Service was swift but they walked me through every step and explained everything. During the process they make conversation and make you calm and relaxed. Answered all of my questions before during and after. Provide a guide after the fact for care via email and verbally. The piercing prices were a little steep. They say prices start at $40 but none of the earrings they showed me were under $100. If you are strict about how much you want to pay for earrings I suggest you state that from the start so you are not wasting time looking at items that are outside of your price range. I left wishing I'd spent less on the earring but I like it so I'm okay with it (esp if it had to stay on for 3 months). Note parking is horrible in this area so give yourself extra 30 min to look for parking or just park in the mall parking lot to save time. I ended up finding a free spot but made me 5 min late to apt. Overall I will definitely be going back for more piercings. Probably get another during my 6 week check up. My mom wanted to get a second piercing for her earlobes. I had seen some photos of True Expression and liked that the shop looked clean and well kept. I made a reservation online two weeks prior. I submitted my credit card to place a hold for $50 (service fee for 2 earlobe piercings). I parked at the Queens Center Mall (amounted to $5 when we left) - there were more spots available at the JC Penney wing. The door remains locked to prevent overcrowding during covid. The shop is quite small and intimate. We were greeted by Sebastian. I explained that I needed to translate for my mother and he was very understanding. Throughout the entire session, he patiently asked what my mom wanted and explained each step. He double-checked to make sure the placement of my mom's earrings was correct, made sure she was comfortable, and took all of the precautions to make sure he kept things sterile. She's to come back in 6 weeks for a complimentary checkup. I would definitely recommend coming here - it was a very comfortable experience and my mom was very pleased. read more

They have an autoclave!!! This is a sterilization equipment that heats up the tools for 15-20min. Had a great experience and an education. Did not know there was so much involved in ear piercings. He explained the healing process to me which was a blur to me because I didn't know what to expect. I thought it was just going to be one of those piercing guns like the mall (my first piercing). Paul (the owner) prepped the room and had the equipment sterilized in the autoclave with a disposable sensor that proves it worked. A lot of time and care went to the whole process and I felt quite comfortable. They cover follow up visits also. Mine will be next month. Cleaning and maintenance instructions were given me on a postcard including the fact he installed 16 gauge. Instructions were also emailed to me too. (Good idea if I lose my postcard). I literally created a Yelp account for the sole purpose of leaving this review. This is the ONLY place I have trusted in recent years with my piercings and it is the only place I plan to go to in the future. Prior to finding True Expression, I received several ear piercings at multiple shops in NYC and upstate NY, but in hindsight none of these experiences compared at all to True Expression. I've had 4 piercings done by Paul over the course of the past year: my conch, two additional lobe piercings, and my daith. He is truly an artist with an eye for aesthetic and is the most knowledgeable piercer I have encountered. Paul is extremely professional and is clearly dedicated to proper sterilization, procedure, and placement of piercings (that's a lot of P's). I'm sure we've all received piercings where you sit in a chair in some tattoo shop, get marked in approximately 0.0325 seconds, and next thing you know a needle has punched through your ear at whatever haphazard angle. At True Expression, I feel like a medical procedure is about to happen (and this is a GOOD thing). Several extra steps are taken to ensure a safe, clean, and happy piercing. Paul is also very attentive and caring - for example, today when I came in for my daith, he took a look at how my two lobe piercings (which he did in August 2020) were doing and even took the time to adjust the tiny hoops I have in my other lobe (piercings not done by him) without me asking. And he threw in a free bottle of saline solution for aftercare. The daith itself turned out great! I'm convinced Paul has a light touch or something, as none of my piercings from him have ever been notably painful. If you need ANY type of piercing you have found the place to go. Your search is over....... no, really.... JUST GO HERE. If you are serious about your piercings then take the step and go to someone who knows what they are doing and is an expert. The price is slightly higher than if you get quoted from a piercer at a tattoo place. (Not to discredit them, some of them are wonderful) but at a tattoo shop it's more of an add-on, an after thought. This place IS ALL ABOUT PIERCINGS and they take it seriously. Everyone in the shop is courteous and very fun, professional and helpful. I had the pleasure of Paul, the owner, doing my piercing. HE IS THE BEST. He took his time to listen to my requests. He saw what I wanted. He made a professional recommendation that was actually to get one less piercing than I wanted. He said this based on my ear structure and after confirming I wore glasses occasionally. It is not just about business to him, it is about making sure the client does what's best for them while still keeping in mind what the client wants, even if that means less money. Almost a year later, and I am here to declare that True Expression Studio willl always have a special place in my heart! I recently moved abroad and had some concerns about my piercings and couldn't get any help from the studios in my small town . After I complained about my woes on my IG account, True Expression was kind enough to reach out and help me. They were wonderful, professional and attentive, just as they are in person. Everything about the True Expression studio and staff is stellar. My first walk-in visit to the studio was exactly eleven months ago when I got my daith pierced by Paul. I chose to get my daith pierced at True Expression after I did my research and learned that their business is regarded as one of the most reputable and sterile piercing studios in NYC, and even better, they are APP certified members. They were amazingly patient with me as they allowed me ample time (nearly TWO HOURS) to ask (too many) questions about the daith piercing, browse their BEAUTIFUL fine jewelry and finally pick the appropriate ring for my ear. Paul even customized the color sequence of the earring! I didn't even know it was possible to do that with my particular jewelry. After Paul impressively and beautifully performed my daith piercing with very little discomfort, he then helped me to thankfully realize that I needed to replace the inappropriate jewelry I had in my one month old helix piercing which was done at a different tattoo/piercing studio. This place is amazing and everything that a person who is no longer in their teens would imagine going to for piercings. I've been craving for a new piercing for a while now, but all of the stories that I hear about infections, vessels popping, etc. was scaring the bananas out of me when it came to actually taking action. Per what I know, I don't want to be pierced with a gun, I want it to be somewhere sanitary, I want it to be done by a professional (and not just a mere tattoo artist), and I need it to be in a non-shady place. True Expression exceeds all expectations and my piercer, Paul, was amazing. He really calmed my nerves and made me feel extremely safe. The facility is super clean and Paul is very open about explaining every detail when it comes to the whole process. What I especially liked was that everything is sanitized on the spot and it looked like a doctor's office. I stopped by on a Sunday night without an appointment, about two hours before they closed-- with two people ahead of me. I was expecting to come in and get out within about an hour. Unfortunately, the girl before me was kind of indecisive about whether or not to go for it, so the wait took longer than necessary. I was okay with this (it wasn't like I had an appointment)-- this shows how patient the piercer was and that if needed, I would also be given the time of day. 10/10 in all aspect, here's why: Customer service: very accommodating, knowledgeable, patient, and enthusiastic about what they do! Came a bit late for my 12pm appt, Steph confirmed at 12:03 and i told her i was 10mins late. when I got there, she was still super nice, helped me picked which metal i wanted to put, i originally wanted Maya's heart piece, which was a 14k rose gold (that i liked from a previous post), but i prefer a yellow gold instead which they didn't have at the moment. So when Paul came, he stepped in and showed me a few pieces that I instantly fell in love with. He knew exactly what he sells, and he kinda knew what i liked. He was so patient too, I couldn't decide because everything was just cute but he just let me look at it closely and feel the vibe lol So i ended up getting an 18k heartleaf and a 14k heart. They were so pretty! Can't wait to get that Maya heart next month hopefully in yellow gold! The experience: I'm 30 and had been wearing those fake helix earrings for years. But this year, i finally decided to get it done on my actual birthday (today!). i was freaking out, tbh.and tried to cancel days before coz i have low pain tolerance. But Paul assured it wasn't painful, more like a pressure, every now and then. As i was getting punctured, after every deep breaths, the pain just comes and goes, like nothing. Sure there was like a 5-sec pain, but wow was it done so pain-free and quickly. His hands were so light i only felt it as he was fixing the ball behind the ear, and the 2nd puncture. Just the session itself, and putting the solution after was under 15 minutes, BUT! our whole visit took like more than 2 hours. We were not rushed. It was really an awesome experience coming from a woman who had her ears pierced 20 years ago. Lol Cleanliness: The shop was soooo clean. There were sanitizers in corners, and you can't touch the jewelry with bare hands. They use tools and gloves if you want to check it up-close. I like that. Gave me an assurance that they are serious about cleanliness. He also has this autoclave, and antimicrobial wipes. My fiancé works at the OR as periop turnover supervisor so he speaks the sterilization jargon, and Paul was so quick to my fiancé's questions about cleanliness, the machine he uses and tools, why he doesn't use the gun for piercing, etc. His passion for work just comes out naturally, and fortunately for me, cleanliness is his top priority! Questions: please ask him questions and he encourages us to ask away! I even told him about my bestfriend's industrial helix pierce and he's willing to check it out for free, as she said her piercing still hurts even though it's been a year old! He was concerned so I wanted to bring her here. Before and after the piercing, he asked me if i had questions, that is a good clientele relationship. Jewelry options: i did mention that his store is full of beautiful jewelries to choose from. Both him and Steph are knowledgeable on their products, vendors, metal type, allergies, etc. So many lovely pieces and I can't wait for my helix piercing to heal because I'm eyeing on that beautiful Maya heart lol might get it on my first checkup lol Ohh! The only reason I decided to come to a professional, True Expression, is because I didn't want to take the risk of piercing my first ever cartilage piercing myself. This was my first time coming to a professional and it's safe to say I will continue to go to a professional from now on. I came to True Expression with my heart set on getting industrial. Unfortunately, I did not have the correct ear shape for it. He was extremely professional throughout the entire process of declining to do a traditional industrial piercing on me, he could've very well pierced me knowing my body would reject it just so he could make some money, but he didn't. He cared about his work way more than how much he could've earned. This completely warmed my heart as not many people would turn away money just to help another person. My appointment was supposed to be around 45 minutes, but he didn't seem to mind spending an hour and a half with me asking him all sorts of questions. We went over a bunch of different variations of industrial piercings to see if I would like to get an non traditional one and he did not mind when I decided to ditch the industrial piercing idea. I ended up getting a daith by him and let me tell you, it didn't hurt at all! Although I did do all my piercings by myself, my pain tolerance is not high at all and this genuinely did feel like a pinch. He verbalized everything he was doing and why and I absolutely appreciated that. He was very gentle and he would apologize every time he did something that he thought might've hurt but didn't hurt at all. Just to add on, I do wear a hijab, and every now and then my hijab would get in the way of him performing his job, but he was always respectful and would gently move it out of his way. Additionally, he provides this free check-up to see how things are going which I think is amazing because that just goes to show how much he cares, he cares enough to provide FREE checkups. He is not making any money from this and is genuinely doing it out of the kindness of his heart. Also, everything is incredibly sterilized, and the whole studio felt so clean. This is literally such an amazing piercing studio, I felt incredibly welcomed and respected and I feel so stupid for not coming here for my other piercings, it definitely would've prevented all the infections I got doing it myself. Hi! Basically, so long as Iong as I live in NYC I only plan on using this studio. 1. This is a very clean and safe piercing studio. 2. Krista made me feel *beyond* comfortable before, during, and after the procedure (2 fresh piercings and 3 installations in piercings that I thought were completely closed forever); she really listened to my vision re: planning my piercings; and she worked super hard to make sure that the piercings were properly aligned. Sebastian at front of house was super patient and helpful when I was trying to decide what jewelry I wanted. I didnt know where to start re: selecting jewelry and his questions were very methodical and helped lead me to the right jewelry for my style and budget. Let me start by saying I haven't even had my appointment yet. My appointment is this Saturday. I received a call yesterday from Steph to confirm my appointment. Omg what a delight! Steph answered all my questions (lord knows I had a ton , lol) and completely put me as ease. I'm more of a tattoo person. Piercings kinda freak me out but I think they are so beautiful.
