But I also love that the prices are great and so is the customer service! The owner is this sweet older man from Afghanistan who is friendly and likes to joke around. He almost always has what I'm looking for and if he doesn't, he's always ready to give me a recommendation on where else I can go find what I need. This is always appreciated!! Inside is a bit chaotic. There are bolts and bolts of fabrics EVERYWHERE! Can't seem to locate what you need? Just ask! The owner or his associate will likely know exactly where it is in their shop and they'll pull it out for you. You won't have to lift a finger, they'll grab the bolts for you! I truly love this place and will be a consistent customer for as long as I live here in Astoria!

They have a great amount of fabrics in all the materials you can think of. I chose to go with flannel. Raj (i think thats his name. Pony tail, speaks a bunch of languages) is incredibly helpful and so patient with the not so easy customers. He helped me figure out how much cloth and thread I'd need for the wipes. I ended up buying way more stuff than i needed but the patterns were so cute i couldn't help it. Their prices are reasonable, the customer service is great. Just in this past week, she shopped there around 3 times. So today we went there to choose a fabric to redo a chair. We looked at some things, then went across the street to another store to see some other choices of fabric, and decided on one in Liz Discount. We went back in and were pretty much verbally assaulted by one of the guys that works there. We didn't do anything to deserve this, he started complaining that we were in there 10 times (we were there for the second time today, and being respectful, and just looking at fabrics). He was yelling at us in front of other customers!! We did absolutely nothing to deserve this and needless to say, we will never go back to do any more business with this place. The whole experience was just shocking. What a horrible horrible man, what a horrible thing to do to your customer!

So glad I went in to check it out! Besides a variety of clothing, jewelry and assorted sundries, the bulk of Broadway Silk Store's shelves are filled with bolts of fabric (beyond silk) for making clothes, upholstery, etc.! Fantastic! Soon I'll be reupholstering some vintage family furniture, and I'll definitely come back here! The storekeeper, who's Broadway Silk Store's owner, was so friendly! Also, the cool ephemera on display was fun to look at. Glad there are stores still around like this in the city with such personal service!

I arrived Wednesday evening to pick the prints and was told scornfully "I told you Thursday or Friday" . The man was not only wrong but very combative in his tone and language. I can understand if the prints were not made by the set pickup date but I can not understand the need to act defensively and the attempt to shift blame onto me, the paying client. The man told me I could come back Thursday and I asked if he was positive and he confirmed. He said he would text me when they were done and I left. I walked in Thursday afternoon and the man said "you're here to pick up the prints aren't you, I told you Thursday or Friday and that I would text you". He wasn't apologetic he was annoyed. I countered he confirmed they would be ready Thursday and he became even more argumentative and dismissive. Regardless of the pick up times that were argued, this is extremely poor customer service. I paid in advance for a service which was not rendered in the agreed upon timeframe and instead of being accommodating or at the least kind about it I was met with contempt and made to feel like I was an annoyance. This is inexcusable. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
