Today's specials

Connie's is one of our go to breakfast spots. They often have a little wait for seats but that is to be expected at a good breakfast spot. But wait is never too long as the service is fast and friendly. The staff is always kind and very helpful. Today I tried the breakfast special of sausage gravy and biscuits. I am very picky about my sausage and I was pleasantly surprised with the great flavor. Out good was delivered quick and the staff checked in on us often. It's a small breakfast/lunch spot so it's always packed but that a good sign that the food is good in my opinion!

Itsy bitsy teaspoon size portion of home fries because they're homemade

The food wasn't terrible. It was fair. Staff were friendly- no issue there. What I found unpardonable was the portion of home fries that came with the omelette. It was about a tablespoons worth. The tiny portion stood out to the point I actually asked the server if my tiny itsy bitsy portion was normal and the server said, and I'll quote, "our home fires are homemade so we don't give too much out" What? The food wasn't bad but not so good I could suffer this "jip"

Cranberry french toast

First time we stopped in for breakfast but won't be the last. This is a great little place. I really like the decor and the staff are all very friendly. We ordered the cranberry french toast and a dish similar to eggs benedict (but without the hollandaise) - I've completely forgotten what it was called. Both were very good. The French toast was sliced like regular sliced bread. I prefer the thicker kind, so I'll probably try the Texas toast version next time. The eggs benedict like dish was also pretty good and the spinach that was in it was a nice fresh touch. Can't wait to explore the rest of the menu.

Although Connie's Kitchen definitely has their regulars who you can spot pretty easily if you pay attention, I still think that this diner is underrated and a hidden gym. Tucked away on the right side of a small plaza (Darsch's Discount Liquor is easier to spot from the road), the seating area is comfortable with typical "mom and pop shop" decor on the walls. The food is consistently good regardless of what you choose while also being reasonably priced. I am personally a fan of a more savory breakfast, often going for the eggs florentine or Mexican omelette and a cup of coffee. I will add that FOR diner coffee, it is not bad at all and I enjoyed my refills. All the workers are incredibly kind whether they're working the biting winters or humid summers. A great place for a long breakfast all year round.

Cheese, mushroom and broccoli omelet with the best home fries in the area. Very well packaged.

Exceptional packaging with the toast wrapped and placed underneath the plate. Us old buggers don't eat as much so this was enough for us. Home fries are well-seasoned and stay on the grill to get cooked Maine style. Great meal. Already have been back to get Connie's Garage-too much for us with the pancakes.

Nutella and cream stuffed french toast.. Delicious.. I've been wanting to see this on the special board again!!

I'm surprised by the low reviews for this place. Especially Jason's review below... what do you expect for a plain waffle and a gluten free sandwich?! Haha. Kind of a plain choice where I wouldn't expect the order to be amazing... Why not try a special? They're very good when I've had them. When I have gone here the last few times, I have had the cinnamon pancakes (3) good size pancakes that I almost can't finish, the Nutella and cream french toast (special) and most recently the breakfasts breakfast burrito which was really good and huge. The burrito had egg, sausage, bacon, home fries, cheese, and salsa which I asked for on the side. A couple other people in our party got the special which had an omelette stuffed with their homemade chili and they said it was excellent. In the past they've had the eggs and hash and I can say that the hash is delicious but they're always running out! Minus a star for that. The people are friendly and welcoming, and if you have a special request, like if you want them to make one of their breakfasts a little bit different than they have it listed, they will do it. I always go here for breakfast when I'm in the area which is about 2 to 3 times a month now.

Really good- our new breakfast spot. Home fries on point and service is great. Very pleased with what we got and how quick it was. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Eggs over easy, spuds, sausage links & toast. All very good.

On a suggestion from a friend, my son and I decided to try a different restaurant for breakfast, rather than the usual place across town. Connie's Kitchen is a bit smaller than my usual breakfast joint, but there was plenty of seating available when we arrived. The gal who was serving us was bright & cheerful on this cold morning after Thanksgiving. Upon being seated she asked if we wanted coffee and/or juice for starters. Coffee was a definite! It was really good coffee. We both requested grapefruit juice and she said they don't carry it. I had a glass of orange juice instead. A half star off for no grapefruit juice. The menu is not a stretch. It offers nothing out of the ordinary, covering basic breakfast items. Not a bad thing, but it does not make a standout dining experience. I opted for a ham, cheddar, mushroom omelette that was very well prepared, light and fluffy, with plenty of the filling items. Instead of potatoes, I chose the fresh fruit cup. A nice alternative that they offer! The wheat toast was......well......wheat toast. Nothing special. My son had two eggs, over easy, with home fries and breakfast sausages that were pretty much what you'd expect. The choice was links or patty. No optional Vermont sausage was available like my usual breakfast restaurant offers. Another half star knocked off. Overall, it was an average diner, serving an average breakfast. Nothing bad, except for the lack of the two noted items. Service was very good. Despite the fact that this place is a tad closer, and easier to get to for me, I think I'll remain a customer of my usual little restaurant for breakfast.

Onto the drinks and food which were so delicious and truly enjoyable. I got the Beachy Bee Iced Latte special, which is a honey vanilla latte with a coconut cold foam and toasted coconut on top (simply divine)! My fiancé got the cappuccino which was made just to his liking, and he's a coffee connoisseur. For food, I had the Bumble, which I highly recommend, with scrambled eggs, subbed with the gluten free sourdough bread (+$2 up-charge) and cheddar instead of American cheese. It's served all day and had so much flavor with that garlic butter, and the seasoned steak. Yum! If you are gluten free like me, you will appreciate that they have the gluten free sourdough bread or a gluten free wrap to substitute with. My partner had the Basic Bee with bacon and thought it was flavorful with light and fluffy scrambled eggs that complimented the bacon well. Overall, I would really recommend this place if you're looking for a breakfast or lunch in Wallingford!

Our server was knowledgeable of gluten free options on the menu, which was great. They start every table with potato chips and a yummy aioli, truly addicting! For food, the filet mignon was perfection. A previous time I came, they had shrimp and scallops in a saffron cream with wild rice and market vegetables and it was DIVINE! The menu does change so that dish wasn't listed this recent time that we went. It would be amazing if they brought it back as a permanent dish!!! For drinks, I loved by Buzzin in Bikini Bottom cocktail! It is my favorite! My fiancé liked the Negroni and Julep as well, but loved my drink above those. I'd definitely recommend going to Six One Nine for a date night or dinner outing!

The couple had been foraging herbs and vegetables together for years. Bars shut down everywhere during the COVID-19 pandemic, so the Gliddens decided to craft their own homemade cocktails with some of their herbs and flowers. They also began to infuse the herbs into different spirits and syrups. Eventually the Gliddens decided to open their own bar and chose the name "Bones & Botanicals" in reference to the spooky witch theme as well as the fact that they use botanicals in their drinks. The menu consists of craft cocktails, craft mocktails, herbal teas, local craft beer & cider, and light food options. Everything on the menu is made from locally-sourced ingredients. In addition to year-round offerings, the menu features new seasonal specials each month. The Gliddens opened a second speakeasy, The Gilded Curtain, down the street in August 2024. I recently visited Bones & Botanicals for the first time. I've been meaning to visit for a while, and I made a point to visit for the beginning of the Halloween season. You need a secret 4-digit passcode to get inside, which is updated weekly and posted on their social media accounts. I totally loved the vibe of the place with all of the witch decor (very reminiscent of "Hocus Pocus" or the "Harry Potter" franchise). There's lots of shelves filled with all sorts of books, broomsticks, crystals, and jars filled with herbs. I even loved all of the smells. The place is small and was a little crowded when I first arrived, but it soon cleared out and I was able to grab a seat. I was excited to try some of the October menu specials, which included the "Pumpkin King's Old Fashion" (bourbon, housemade pumpkin & maple syrup, angostura & chocolate bitters), "The Blood Moon" (mocktail: pomegranate, cranberry, housemade rosemary syrup, lime, club soda, balsamic vinegar) and the "Basic Witch" (vodka, housemade pumpkin creamer, coffee liqueur, whipped cream & sprinkles). I really liked how it doesn't matter if you don't drink alcohol. At Bones & Botanicals, there's something for everyone. The mocktails were just as exciting as the cocktails. Before leaving, I had to get one their most popular year-round offerings: the "Smoked Thyme Infused Old Fashion" (bourbon, thyme syrup, angostura bitters). I watched the bartenders make this cocktail at least five times during my visit and it was an entertaining performance each time (complete with a skull cocktail smoker and a big puff of smoke). It also happened to taste amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Bones & Botanicals and highly recommend a visit during the Halloween season (or any other season for that matter).
