My wife's car needed brakes and my car needed to have a squeakiness in the steering diagnosed. At the end of their workday, I took a chance and called Family Tire & Automotive Services. I spoke with Howard and explained. His reply was to bring them in first thing, and they would get our two cars diagnosed and serviced. In full disclosure FT&AS had serviced my wife's car with a flat tire only weeks earlier and she was thrilled with their service. I am not so easily impressed with automotive maintenance experiences so was going to reserve judgement. Next morning, we had our cars on premises just before their opening at 8AM. Staff was already readying for the day. Howard greeted us, took our statement, and offered to get the brakes on the one car looked at so we went and grabbed breakfast. Shortly thereafter he said yes, the car needed new back brakes and he could get to work right away. The price was right ad I authorized the work. When that work was complete, we switched cars so he could investigate the steering issue. Howard called that afternoon to say the problem was a minor housing adjustment and that it was so quick and simple he wasn't going to charge me for it. I offered to pay for some labor, but he would not hear of it. All toll our experience at Family Tire & Automotive Services was top notch. They are not a dealership by way of a fancy and expensive waiting room. Not that a dealership service area is a very high bar. They are more a no-frills mom-and-pop operation. They're privately owned and run so every penny counts and they seem to go the extra mile to earn not only your immediate business but your future business. They seemed reputable and sincere in their intentions. Howard even texted me two days later to ask how the cars were doing (see attached photo). I've never received a personalized text from a dealership or any other automobile service before. Very nice touch! Ultimately, I will continue to give Family Tire & Automotive Services my business. read more

I called to have work done on an older car running very rough. I had car towed in. Family Tire and Auto got to work quickly, diagnosed several issues including fuel and engine issues, and also found a leak in the power steering pump. I also asked them to replace the battery. They fixed all issues within a day! The car is running great. Solid value, great service, very helpful and professional. I would absolutely use them again. I brought my car here to have a noise checked out. It was later in the day and they were busy so I left the car and went home so that they could take their time and check it out. I received a call back and was told that the repairs would cost over $900. He said that the struts and some other stuff needed fixed. I paid him the labor fee to look at it but did not agree at all that the struts would make the noise that I was hearing. The noise could be heard even idling. I took it to a second place where they actually SHOWED me the issue and it was the fan. I believe that this mechanic charges for diagnostics because he knows that most folks will figure out that what he says and quotes them is completely incorrect. If I would have spent over $900 only to have my car overheat due to a broken fan, I would have been irate. As I was smarter than him to figure out what was wrong, I will take it as he was hoping that I was some silly girl who doesn't know a thing about cars. read more

Very nice guys but I strongly believe they didn't check my wiring in my truck. I was told they are honest people and they would straight up with me as far as what I needed so I didn't have to go buy all these wiring parts and pieces. I have purchased both pieces they said it was and it wasn't it. I wouldn't go here again save your money read more

Can't say about the tire part but service end left me feeling hosed. Had a problem with the ignition system cutting out in my Jeep. They came recommended so I gave them a shot. Paid for the computer diagnosis and two weeks, a tune up, and a new distributer, ignition module later (480.00). They said it was ready. Made it three blocks from they're shop and it cut out, died, then restarted so right back it went. They called back later that day and said they did the computer diagnostic that I paid them to do in the first place and found a loose sensor. I was pressured to have them replace it (another 180.00 bucks). I went with just tightening it. Runs fine now but all the time and expense to tighten two screws was unacceptable. When questioned the tech Billy got belligerent and they refused to return any parts or money for the unnecessary repairs. read more

I initially tried this place out thanks to a recommendation from someone that I thought would've had me leaving this place wanting to come back, but I don't think that's going to happen! So I came in wanting them to look at my car because of the loud noise it was making so I had to describe what was happening,okay... As I see that they were really busy, Howard answered phone calls while I was waiting at the counter and I had mistakenly thought he was talking to me as he took 4-5 calls. So as a mistake he asked for someone's phone number on the phone and I answered, so he signaled me to hush with his hands! Wow, I thought that was rude but at the same time I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt since they were busy. But I got tired of waiting and sat down. Once he was finished with calls, he finally gave me his attention and apologized of course for being so busy. I said it was fine cause I understood their busyness. I then left my car, went home and received a voicemail from Howard saying my car is ready and I needed to call him back. Sounded urgent so I called back. The phone line was busy so I waited another 30 min. Called back and said that work had been done and I can come pick it up. I asked for the price and it was $46. I thought that was fine because it wasn't too terribly priced. But I thought 1) He did not leave that information in the voicemail. 2) Neither did he confirm with me to get the okay if I wanted the work to be done. So I shrugged it off since it was $46 but still, that's not something you'd be too jolly about paying when you never said okay do it! FYI: I wanted them to check the sound on the car. I also was not aware of any prices before leaving my car their either, such as labor costs (hourly rates, etc.). So I come in to pick my car up, and just out of curiosity asked Howard about why he didn't confirm with me before going through with what he did to my vehicle. Btw, the loud noise in my car was due to loose heat shield on exhaust. So all he did was tighten it and not use any new parts. And to diagnose, they had to drive my car for 20 minutes! (or so Howard said they did) but it only took me 5 minutes, maybe 10 minutes MAX to know that my car needed fixing. 20 minutes is a long time I think personally...But then thereafter the 20min drive, they brought my car in and tightened the loose band or whatever it may be and it was fixed! Howard also stated that small things like these, they just go through with their customers. But to my knowledge, the right thing to do would've been to actually hear me say "yes, you can go through with that." So the 20 min drive + 10 min. of actually tightening = 30 min "labor?!" I didn't think a 20 min drive in my car with my gas seems very laborious, sorry. (also take in mind I had no idea the hourly rate) So that is my story. The real irk here though is the fact that work had been done without my permission with a 20 min drive (which is known as labor here) and 10 minutes of tightening up something without replacing parts, and I was charged for 30 minutes "labor." Not coming back, sorry. This place may know what they're doing as any car shop should, but there is ZERO professionalism at all. read more

I live in grapevine and decided to get tires from a local place for once. Got tires from here and said there was a 40k manufacturers warranty. For some reason when I got to the shop they were different tires but said they had the same warranty and were just as good. Just called the other day and they said there was only a 15k warranty and they didn't put any of the miles down so I was out of luck anyway for an error on their end. No help to me. Don't get tires from here. Bated and switched. And they didn't even care. Lost a customer for good. read more

As a former employee I would stay away! Owner is a cool guy and really trying to turn the business around but management is bad. 1 because I quit I WAS NOT PAID for the work performed earlier in the week. Manager is cheap will use the cheapest parts to fix your vehicle. Consistent arguments in the shop, no shop supplies to the point that I've personally had a customer go get me shop supplies out of their own pocket so I could finish their car. Would not recommend!! We brought our car in to have one thing repaired. When informed the car was done we couldn't get the car to start, opened the hood to find the engine wasn't put back together. Then found out another item was broken by this shop and couldn't seem to get it repaired. Each time we were told how long it was going to take to fix something there was one to three days added on. Family Tire destroyed my vehicle and left me stranded. I took my car in for a routine oil change. The next day a main bearing blew in my engine (judging by the noise engine is making) and my car is totaled. My 2014 Kia Sorento with 130,000 miles was running excellent yesterday. I drove across town today and on my way home, the engine blew and the car died. There are obvious signs of an oil leak both in the intersection where it died and in my parking spot at home. I had the car towed back to Family Tire and gave them the opportunity to resolve this issue. I showed them photos of the oil leak and the warning light indicators. They deny they did anything wrong and take no responsibility. Family Tire says it's a coincidence that the engine blew on my vehicle the day after they serviced it. I am now out $11,000 because I took my vehicle to Family Tire! read more

Took our truck in because the brakes needed to be changed. They charged $200 for break pads and two weeks later they were grinding on the driver side. We went to Kwik Kar and had them look at the brakes. They said the passenger front looked new but that the pad on the driver side for sure hadn't been changed. Another $250 to take care of the brake pads, but Kwik Kar also put new rotars on. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! They are untrustworthy! read more

Since moving to Texas in 2011, we've had our vehicles (F-150, Tahoe, Pilot, and a Ranger Bass Boat) serviced by Howard and his Team @ Family Tire and Automotive. As a guy who's depth of knowledge on vehicles is hoping to find a Big, Red, ON/OFF switch under the hood that I can flip back to the ON position to fix my vehicle.......its incredibly important to me as a customer that our Mechanic: 1) Has Integrity, 2) Does what they say they will do and OVER communicates, and 3) Has fair, reasonable, competitive prices.... Great people and simple and quick service, they got me in and out with my oil change on my pickup, cheap and they did a thorough job checking my tire pressure and topping off all my fluids (I was completely out of washer fluid before) the guys were nice and didn't push me to buy new tires, just informed me I had less than a 1,000 miles left.
