We don't have a Schlotzsky's in the Des Moines IA metro anymore... So whenever there is one within…read morea reasonable distance we have to make the trip so my girlfriend can get her fix. We were staying in Lincoln NE but commuting back and forth between there and Omaha for a few days and on Sunday we hit this one before heading back to Des Moines. She always orders a turkey something... Honestly I'm not even sure exactly what it is and I really don't care. Subs or deli sandwiches really aren't my thing... But Schlotzsky's is probably her favorite! We hit the drive through in this location and were behind a couple of cars. She placed her order and I could tell from her smile they had done what they needed to do when they handed her the bag. I think it was the sheer weight... There are chains that you know when they hand you the bag if it's going to be a good day... You can tell if it's loaded...! Or did they skimp on your order? We pulled into a nearby parking spot in the lot... I already had my Runza waiting for me. She lifted the sandwich out of the bag and it dwarfed her hands. She looked at me and said... "Now that's a sandwich!" I could tell she enjoyed every bite. This Schlotzsky's is in a standalone building adjacent to a strip of businesses. It's easy to access and there is plenty of nearby parking. Service in the drive through was great and the sandwich she got was on point! Shes had ones that weren't from other locations... This visit at this time... 5 stars! Your mileage may vary.

10 years on I thought it was time to update my review, especially since I just ate there last week…read more The Saddle Creek location is gone now and I don't have much business in that area so getting to Schlotzsky's is a rare treat. I ordered my usual small original with extra cheese and it did not disappoint. It was a busy lunchtime, but the line moved quickly and the staff was friendly. Someone brings the order to your table but then you bus your own table. It's such a unique sandwich, there's no other like it. Planning to make a return trip next week!

Convenient location!! I like that it's new and still very clean. The staff was friendly and got our…read moreorders correct. They had plenty of seating and a decent drink selection. I ordered a Gluten Free #6, Mike's way, and I was pleasantly surprised. I think they've improved their gluten free subs, because it didn't instantly crumble and fall apart with all the sauces on it. The roast beef was good; truly just a simple sandwich. It's pretty much just meats, cheese, and a couple veggie toppings, but Mike's Way can really elevate the sandwich.

I'm sorry, Danny DeVito - I love you, but I did NOT love Jersey Mike's. You can be their celebrity…read morespokesperson if it pays the bills, but you steered me wrong this time, Danny. All joking aside, I had not visited Jersey Mike's in the past, because I am a very big sauce girl and had seen that Jersey Mike's has no sauces. They have mayonnaise and olive oil and vinegar, etc. That is the extent of their sauce game. And they have no toppings aside from tomatoes and onions and simple things like that. Not a sandwich place after my heart, I must say. I am a Potbelly or Subway girl for the above reasons. Mama's Meatball at Potbelly - yummmm! And that Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki at Subway - I would eat it even knowing there's yoga mat in the bread. Jersey Mike's does have a nice vibe going in their shop, kind of like you're at a baseball game or something with the red, white, and blue color palette. But then there are pictures of beaches and things, so that was a little confusing. I got the Turkey Provolone sandwich to try for my first (and last) visit. I don't like tomatoes or onions, but they did have black olives, so I added those. They have no sauces, as I said, except mayo, so that's what I ordered and I got a LOT of it since it was the only "moisturizing" aspect of this dry turkey sandwich. Even with the onslaught of mayo that I added to this sandwich, it was still somehow very dry in the end. I think it's because they put WAY too much meat on the sandwich (which is hand cut on a slicer, and I do appreciate that). But the absurd amount of meat just soaked up all the toppings and made it dry and unappetizing. My husband got the tuna salad sandwich, and that was actually pretty good (he gave me half of his since I didn't like mine at all). It did have some flavor and wasn't super dry like mine. So because his sandwich was good, I am upgrading my review from a two star to a three. Overall, I would say to skip Jersey Mike's if you're not a fan of pretty basic/bland sandwiches. If you are a fan of those, then Jersey Mike's might be for you, and that's ok.
