I love supporting my people, but I should not have to wait over 20 minutes for my order and I was not happy with the food nor the price. The greens was too salty, Mac and cheese did not taste good at all, and the beans were plain and the ribs were very rubbery. You need to learn how to cook and taste your products before serving anyone. Yeah it looks and smells good, but the taste was not there. First time I've ordered from here and I am very pleased!! Food was amazing. I got the spinach coxinha, vegan zucchini pizza, and vegan spinach pizza- which was the best of all 3 items. But they were all great. Portions were a little small so next timetime I'd get more. Its vegan but tastes like pizza made with dairy. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

LEMEL is the MAN! Compton Vegan was one of the several food trucks that came out to support us in the Artist Lounge at Sick New World in Vegas. Finally made it to this place there was a lot of hype about this spot. The food is good but could be better. For instance the Mac is oily but dry in taste. Collard greens are okay. Baked beans are okay. The ribs were over done but the sauce makes up for it. They should add some cream to the Mac or slightly change the recipe. Compton Vegan - Ribs plate and Jac Mac plate - Vegan Near Me - Hawthorne, California

I first heard about this spot a few months back but it took me a while to actually try it. I order from their "ghost" kitchen location at the Colony in West LA. I've had a few items so here's a rundown of them. Ribz plate - has variety and is my favorite but I wish it wasn't so pricey ($20). The greens are good, cornbread is great, and beans are solid. The two others I enjoy very much as well BUT they are definitely unique and possibly a deal breaker for some. The Ribz themselves are great fresh and they give you 4 pieces if I remember correctly, but when/if you reheat them they become a bit dry. The Mac and cheese (which I now really like) is very nutty and has a bitter/savory taste to it and it's not creamy - I honestly did not like it at first but now it's almost all I get. I've also ordered their Chikin and Mac bowls and barbecue is the best, in my opinion. Their large to go size ($15) is a great value since it comes with 4 large pieces of chikin, perfect amount of your chosen sauce, and more than enough Mac and cheese to enjoy. Their Wingz were so far my least favorite since the texture was a bit inconsistent and in between bites of sponginess and just plain wheat gluten. I might have gotten a weird batch but I'm willing to try again. I'm looking to try their shrimp plates and chikin and waffle plate soon so they are definitely doing something right cuz I am definitely gonna keep ordering! read more

This is a gem in the heart of compton for the FACT that it's the best vegan food in Los Angeles. Their shrimp Mac and cheese is unmatched comfort food. It's a good truck by the grocery outlet and the owner is normally the chef cooking your food. Come out to support a small business with amazing food. I love compton vegan. read more

Compton Vegan appears to be great! I've seen a few vegan pages post about them and the food always looks great in photos. I'm a big foodie and I love Soulfood so I couldn't wait to try it! I ordered the ribs, Mac, greens, baked beans and cornbread. I was extremely disappointed. The ribs tasted like strips of bread soaked in bbq sauce. The bbq sauce was awful. I'm not sure how when you can buy great tasting bbq sauce anywhere. I tried the Mac and cheese next and couldn't finish it. It didn't taste like Mac and cheese at all. I've never had mac & cheese that tasted so bad. It's like they didn't even try. I'm a mac & cheese connoisseur and I'm aware everybody makes theirs differently. But this was awful, sorry to say. It looked and tasted like it was covered in orange colored oil and tasted like Vaseline. Not cheesy or flavorful at all. The greens had no flavor except a hint of salt and spicy. The baked beans were good and seemed like they were from a can. The cornbread was excellent. I've never in my life had to throw away a plate of soul food. I even let my boyfriend taste it, he said the same thing and hated it. I asked some women next to us who ordered the same thing. They hated it as well and were pissed off and wanted their money back. I mentioned how we should probably tell Compton vegan so they should fix this. But apparently they don't care just as long as a few people like their food. Hopefully they improve otherwise they will not last too much longer especially with the horrible branding on social media. Again I was extremely disappointed especially since I love supporting black businesses. But this one makes the rest of them look bad especially in the vegan community. First time trying this spot ! I am a vegan in LA and I Love to cook/eat lol ! Unfortunately I tried the Mac and buffalo wings. I have to say the Mac doesn't taste like cheese .. doesn't really have much flavor ... I have a great recipe ( if you guys would like my help lmk ! ) Also the wings are not tasty at all very blend/ not crunchy but rather a soggy piece of seitan. My family and I were thrilled to try Compton Vegan at the Vegan Exchange after having drooled over their food posts on Instagram for about year. We ordered three rib plates (ribs, mac n cheese, cornbread, baked beans, and greens). I was very excited because it has been hard finding good vegan soul food. However, the experience was very, very disappointing and far below our expectations. Unfortunately, this was the worst vegan food we've ever had. For starters, the mac n cheese was very oily, flavorless, and severely lacking cheese. The cornbread was dry and tasteless. The greens (what I was most excited for) were tasteless and dry. We all agreed the ribs tasted a little off but the bbq sauce was OK. The baked beans were good but it's sad that was the only thing enjoyable on the plate. We ended up throwing the food away. I really wish we had a better experience considering how excited we were to try it and how expensive it was ($60 total). Very disappointing. read more

First of all, it was really confusing to find Compton Vegan. It's located in a shared ordering area named "Colony." I walked past it twice before I finally walked and inquired if Compton Vegan was located inside as well. Now, about the food... Compton Vegan has the right idea but needs to significantly improve the dishes. I had the baked beans, mac & cheese, and the chicken wings. The beans were good but that was it. The mac & cheese was oily and lacked any cheesy flavor. The chicken wings failed to match the typical texture and flavor of other vegan wings... I couldn't finish them because I disliked them so much. This is unfortunate, I really wanted to like this place and support a new business. I hope Compton Vegan improves their recipes. read more

Went to IE Sundays in San Bernadino and was able to try this place out finally. The ribs are something else, somehow they make it feel fatty and the bbq sauce is delicious. A unique experience. Food served from sort of a kiosk offering multiple restaurants. I wish that I had thought of it . The food is good. Just about everything is a bit spicy. When you want to try plant based that different from the rest, go for it. My roots is Louisianan. And I have not had gumbo since I became plant based 25 years ago. Have yet to visit the physical location but every so often will do delivery and also ordered a family meal for the 4th of July. Compton Vegan never disappoints! Absolutely delicious! If you are to get anything I strongly recommend getting the po boy and popcorn chicken bucket! The regular fried chicken on the plate is a bit more dry, but the popcorn chicken is phenomenal and in bigger pieces than you'd think anyway. Also the best fried chicken and po boy I've had of all time from any place. The cook makes sure to not skimp on the seasoning if you are some one like me who is easily let down by unseasoned and dry chicken. Couldn't recommend more! read more

I love Compton Vegan so much!! My favorite dish is the BBQ "chicken" mac and cheese. The sauce is amazing, and I personally really enjoy the texture of the faux meat. My husband loves the buffalo Mac. Either way, we love the hearty, soul food vibe of the mac.
