    Voodoo Mac

Mmm mmm good! Found Voodoo Vegan on instagram and have been following them for a while. They recently posted photos of their hot honey oyster mushrooms so I had to try! Saw they'd be in Long Beach at the Trademark Brewing - a cool brewery with outdoor beer garden - so I took the trek to find them and I'm so glad I did! Tried the hot honey oyster mushrooms and the voodoo Mac and cheese. Hunni, let me tell you, both were slammin! H the ode hot honey oyster mushrooms were freakin delicious! Fried to perfection and glazed with the hot honey which was both sweet and spicy... yes please! And the Mac was delicious... only wish the portion was a lil larger. The prices were kind of high but probably on par with most food trucks - not exactly sure. We paid about $42 for the oyster mushrooms and the Mac but it was worth it! Food took about 15 mins and the staff and owner was extremely nice! Welcoming, friendly and flexible with the menu. I'll be catching them again soon and I think you should too! You've gotta try these hot honeys!!! Thank me later!

My friend and I tried this truck at SoCal VegFest 2023, which was a couple months ago now, and I'm still thinking about their Who Dat?! Mac. This was the one item at the whole event that both of us gravitated to, and our gut didn't lead us astray. You don't miss anything with this vegan mac. It is packed with amazing Cajun flavor, savory cheesiness, and satisfying crunch. We added all the protein and toppings, and honestly, that was probably the most convincing vegan shrimp I've had. Also the girls staffing the truck were the sweetest. Would be a regular if only I lived closer!

Voodoo Vegan has been on my list of places to try for a WHILE so when I saw they'd be at Vegan Playground on a night I had free, I got dressed and headed out! And I really want to give them 5 stars, but based on this first experience, I cannot. Let's start with the good: They are clearly popular as I arrived not even an hour into the event and they had the longest line... but not the longest wait which I loved! Ordering was easy and the staff was friendly. THE SHRIMP PO'BOY IS DELICIOUS, YALL!!!! I love po'boys and every vegan one I've had up until now has let me down. The bread is incredible, the inside is flavorful, and the portion is generous. Loved it. Now for the not-so-good: The main reason I wanted to try this spot was for their vegan mac 'n cheese. I didn't enjoy this one. I think there's a difference between heat and flavor. This mac had heat but not a lot of flavor and definitely not a lot of cheese vibes going on. This was very disappointing. Also, I understand inflation is wrecking all of us right now, but these prices felt a bit steep! I'm the first one to step up to support a black owned business, it was just a bit much tn, regarding the cost. Overall: I will be back to try other things... maybe one thing at a time at these prices.

Our "Seafood Platter" with extra $5 shrimp.

Shady business practices! I went with my partner and a couple friends to the Vegan Exchange in North Hollywood. We had to order our food on a tablet in front of the truck (probably so it's easier for them to pull a quick one on people and hide in the kitchen). We ordered the "Seafood Platter" for $13. The tablet then prompted us with a REQUIREMENT to add an extra $5 to our "Seafood Platter" for shrimp. When we got our order, it was just fries, a slice of bread, coleslaw, and four shrimp. This is not a Seafood Platter. Was the $13 just for fries, coleslaw, and bread? When I brought this concern up to the lady at the pickup window, I was greeted with immediate hostility and defensiveness, so I'm sure this is not their first time having a customer call them out on their unethical business practices. In hindsight, I believe my $1 tip was overly generous. We will not be coming back, and I plan to contact the coordinator of the Vegan Exchange event regarding this incident.

1st off all of the food was cooked to order so everything was fresh! It was my 1st time here so I didn't know how to order or pay, the owner came to the window with a beautiful smile and great attitude and showed me how to scan the QR code and place my order. The food was absolutely delicious and flavorful every bite was mind blowing. I couldn't believe how similar the mushroom tasted to seafood. The tartar sauce was for sure the star of the show it complimented both the oyster mushroom and the fries perfectly. I can't wait for them to have outdoor seating because this was definitely a meal to sit and enjoy immediately

    $50 for just "ok" food

I gotta be honest, I was SO excited to try this and was SO let down.. I tried the Voodoo Vegan food truck at Vegan Playground in West Adams. I got there as soon as they opened and was 4th in line. I ordered the vegan seafood gumbo which cost $25 and the voodoo fries for another $15. After spending $50 (with tax and tip) on just two items, I was expecting something amazing or at least certainly worth the cost. FIRST, it took 35 minutes to come out which is absolutely absurd for a food truck. SECOND, the gumbo was no more than 6oz of soup. It looked like an 8oz container that was very less than full. $25 for a couple spoons of gumbo was disappointing. The fries were fine, but really just fine, nothing special especially for being their special fries. Overall, neither were very flavorful. Super disappointing to spend $50 and wait 35 minutes for just "ok" food.

Great food and service! New Orleans ambiance and the chef is phenomenal! I eat here multiple times a week!

Very disappointed in @voodooveganfood we have tried two Sundays in a row only to find out each time they are waiting on the chef and who knows when the chef will arrive. It's one thing to serve a poor meal because you can make up for it the next time. But the one thing people can't get back is time. And when you make the time to go somewhere and they're not ready that's time they can't make up for.

Oyster Mushroom, Grits and 2 Hunny Biscuits..

Randomly found this place after looking for vegan food but man lemme tell you...the best vegan food I have EVER had in my life, hands down. The Mac is bussin, the "shrimp" is phenomenal...the mushrooms are the best though, to be honest. Plus the people are really cool. If you want some vegan soul food packed with flavor...do yourself a favor and check them out. Food so good make you wanna slap your momma

Walking in is just how it was back home, there's a giant menu but also some of the famous stuff on display and ready to go. I ordered fried pork, fried chicken, tostones and the oxtail. It was all absolutely amazing. I don't always spend $50 for solo dinners but I couldn't pick just one item! I will definitely be back again with my family. If you are missing the Dominican food from back home, this place will not disappoint. If you've never had Dominican food, do yourself a favor and give this place a shot!

Stopped by Karibbean Cuisine after seeing an Instagram review and was looking forward to having…read moresome good Dominican food, especially because it reminded me of my summers spent with family in New York and visiting the DR. When I got on Yelp, I saw mixed reviews, especially comments about a woman being rude or having a bad attitude. Thankfully, we did not have that experience directly. I did briefly see her come out from the kitchen, we caught eyes, and she walked back inside. The ambiance was ok, good music , no customers at the time, but a few tables were dirty. The young man cleaned it right away . To be fair, I don't think the issue is primarily the young man taking the orders. He was kind, apologetic, and seemed to care, but the overall operation felt unorganized. Our order was incorrect three separate times. First, the drink order was wrong, but he fixed it and apologized. Second, we paid extra for mayo ketchup and garlic sauce in small 1 oz containers, but they were not placed on our tray, so we had to get up and ask for them. Again, he apologized. Then, when we received our tray, he let us know they had run out of lettuce and gave us potato beet salad instead, without offering us an option first. We ordered the goat stew plate and the grilled chicken plate, both served in to-go containers. For the plates, you get your protein, then a choice of green salad or potato beet salad, along with either white rice or moro rice, which is rice cooked with beans. We chose the moro rice. I've had Caribbean/Dominican food many times before, and it is usually packed with flavor, so I was honestly surprised that this was bland. This definitely feels like a coaching opportunity for the cook to taste the food throughout the cooking process, because a little seasoning and balance can make a huge difference. The grilled chicken portion was generous, and the plantains were delicious. The guanábana/soursop drink was also delicious, and the tamarindo had good flavor, though it had a lot of pulp/flesh in the cup. That said, the chicken and onion sauce were very bland and needed salt. For the prices being charged, the guest experience should feel more polished. Our total came out to $78 for two plates, two drinks, a small side of beans, and plantains. Pretty costly for what we received. Another thing that stood out was the napkins. When we asked for more, we were only given two additional napkins, which felt very stingy, especially when eating saucy dishes like goat stew. It just didn't feel like the best way to treat guests. As a chef and food safety professional, I also noticed behaviors that need coaching, including apron use when going into the restroom, lack of visible handwashing afterward, and bare-hand contact after scratching the head before touching food containers. These are important food safety habits that should be reinforced immediately. Overall, Karibbean Cuisine has good flavor potential and generous portions, but they need stronger operational structure, better order accuracy, improved guest communication, and tighter food safety practices. At this time, I personally would not come back, but I do wish them all the best in their business. I hope they take this feedback as constructive criticism and apply it in a way that helps the restaurant grow, improve the guest experience, and build long-term guests. If I see changes in the future, I would gladly give them another try. Until then, I truly wish them success.

Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? As has been pointed out, the ladies who frequently work the Benten Bowl truck are wonderfully insightful, friendly, and fast when it comes to service. They're passionate about what they do and it shows. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? A standard bowl at Benten Bowl truck will run you $10.00, and while you'll get a decent amount of healthy food I wouldn't call it a large portion, and you still may well find you're hungry after a single serving. That's no too uncommon given food truck prices these days, but it's noteworthy. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? My Spicy Mayo Ponzu Chicken bowl was clearly assembled with precision, and I could tell immediately tell that the ingredients were fresh. The chicken was well trimmed, the peripherals fresh and flavorful, and the sauces a good compliment. Was it the best chicken bowl I've had? No, but it did hit the spot. Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Again this is a good truck for a decent healthy food truck option, but my meal didn't blow me away. No Star Granted.
