They have flooded multiple store locations with new, inexperience employees who have not had proper food and safety training, so they can keep open while offing the heart of compass coffee, their staff- who's union is asking for very reasonable demands like better working equipment, optional tipping, and pest control. Just warm bodies in shops appearing all is well while you the customer have no idea. there is better coffee in dc, with better morals and beliefs. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop right now! I always get an iced latte with oatmilk and I add simple syrup or honey to it which is nice bc I can adjust it to my sweetness level. The lattes are smooth and not bitter which I love! The oatmilk adds a nice nuttiness, and I love that they don't charge extra for nondairy milk. Compass coffee is a chain and this one has a large interior with lots of tables and seats so it's nice for studying/working and they can wifi. The workers here are also very nice, so I like to come here weekly during my lunch breaks :) I honestly prefer compass coffee to blue bottle because blue bottle sometimes has a weird/bitter aftertaste. read more

This place is sooo good. Indoors seating is very spacious and perfect for 1-on-1's, meetings, studying, etc. The cold brew is probably the best cold brew coffee I've ever had. Vanilla cream cold brew was extremely rich, light, and sweet. Caramel Vienna was a sweeter drink that tasted like your usual frappe. Banana walnut bread and almond croissant were very good. Wouldn't say compass coffee could be known for their pastries, but they still went well with their signature cold brews. Would come again and recommend to all. read more

First time visiting a Compass Coffee. The Georgetown location is incredibly charming. I could totally see myself spending some hours here with a good book or a coffee date. Super attentive and kind staff, as well. I was lured in by the iced maple latte. However, it was a little bit of a disappointment because all I could taste was burned espresso. To top it off, the straw was incredibly flimsy. I've never had a straw split on both sides before, simply from the act of stirring around the coffee. A glorified Starbucks with excellent coffee and other hot and cold drinks. The space is quite large. Had regular coffee (strong) and a half calf (equally strong). The assortment of muffins and croissants are enticing. We went with a plain croissant and a ham & cheese which were very tasty. I really wanted the almond one so next time. They have egg sandwich options but the barrista did not suggest it when I asked for an egg and cheese croissant. That was disappointing to find out after picking up my coffee. Maybe next time. Great ambiance with a shockingly well put together customer base! The overall atmosphere was definitely better than the coffee, which was good but not nearly as good as the decor. The fabulous signage out front reminded me of old school art deco 'Murica & the inside was one of the coolest amalgamations of design elements that you would never expect before setting foot inside. While warm, the baristas weren't particularly friendly & it showed in their lattes which didn't seem to be poured with love. Compass Coffee is sweeping the DC local coffee scene off its feet. I've been to several of their locations and eagerly awaited their first Georgetown store. And let me tell you, this is a flagship. This is one of the coolest and nicest coffee shops I've ever been to. It's located in the historic Georgetown Theater building right on Wisconsin Avenue. Georgetown needs more local businesses and this Compass cafe is very sweet. I love their Cardinal and Horizons roasts. Vanilla Cream Cold Brew is delicious. Any of their mochas are great. read more

What's funny is that my first venture here I was met with closed doors simply because I lost track of time. After peeking in and seeing just what they had to offer, you can bet your Christmas bulbs I was there the next day. Heres how it went... The coffee ordered here was a caramel latte w/oat milk. Absolutely smooth and satisfying, I have to say the art, the flavors, the caffeine, all there and deeply tasted. The service was excellent and the barista was helpful in reminding people to not grab the coffee out of her hand and instead wait for her to set it down before grabbing it. This was obviously to limit the amount of contact which is a huge service to the public. Bravo! Flash, Bang, and WOW! Can you say captivating and retro? Walking through the giant glass doors under the sign of GEORGETOWN, you're welcome into the open arms of wonderful aromatic scents of coffee being pulled, poured, and served! Popping colors, social distanced line markers, geometric walls and a huge circular center of a bar for coffee creation. Lights seem to be a key to the bright colors and the way you see the shop because you'll notice around the ceilings and in the walls there are many lights made into the wall as well as windows at the end and in the middle of the shop that bring light in despite the location in the middle of Georgetown. Creativity here is not spared and that's the kind of forward thinking needed if you're going to push the bounds of coffee as we know it today. Unique design throughout the room, as you move towards the back you'll see there is a lovely couch seating area where you can study or relax in front of a cute fireplace. Head further to the back and you'll see there is an area with huge windows for the day time and plenty of seating. A little treat that adds another dimension to the venue are these two glass cases that are secretly the roofs to another room under the shop! Pretty neat if I do say so myself where I just wanna see if I can rent that space and enjoy it as well. Overall thoughts? Post the covid era, I expect to see a lot more people here. With limited capacity, it just doesn't feel the same but I'm still glad they are able to have some people able to sit down and enjoy the shop. Great vibes here with ample seating and friendly staff! There's all sorts of seating from small single tables to couches with laptop tables and community tables. Enjoy the fireplace area towards the back or sit at the bar. They had a lovely vegan morning glory muffin, which was like a carrot cake mixed with coconut batter. Very light and fluffy! Great coffee and music. We got a small iced latte with vanilla syrup + oak milk and a mint iced coffee. Comfortable place to chat or study. Hung out for a couple of hours on a Tuesday afternoon. No line :) Parking is a little tough, but we managed to snag a two hour spot. There's currently construction in the area so most available street parking is a 30 min max spot. The coffee here is delicious! I got the equivalent of an iced pumpkin spice coffee, and it was incredible! It's decor and ambiance are impeccable, and while it was super busy, my friends and I were able to find a space to sit and chat while we drank our coffee. I'm taking a star off because my straw, as well as my friend's straw, cracked and crumbled. It broke almost immediately when I stirred the syrup into my coffee and then, essentially, shattered. I grabbed a new straw which seemed to be just as brittle but got the job done. I assume Compass was trying to find a more eco-friendly straw that wasn't made of paper (which gets soggy), but straws don't work with holes/cracks and should not be breaking in your mouth. Nevertheless, would 100% recommend! read more

This is a solid place to get coffee from and they have plenty of seasonal options. The baristas are super knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have. They can get busy at certain times but they're pretty fast. I actually started to bring my own reusable metal straw for my iced drinks since the ones they have would always break in the middle if you accidentally pinched it which was annoying. This location has a lot of nice areas to do work and study at since there's tons of huge and small tables, natural light and outlets. They always play good music too! I have lived in Georgetown for two years and go to Compass Coffee everyday and have lived through the employee transition. What I loved about it initially is the amazing customer service and high touch personalized professionalism, not to mention the fact that they are the only coffee shop that understands my order which isn't complicated but they get it right every time. They make you feel like you are a part of a community and the staff is friendly and engaging, knowing everyone who walks in and greeting them with a smile. At one point last summer, there was a big turnover issue and it was so sad to miss all those wonderful faces behind the counter. Gratefully it has settled down now and with Cooper at the helm it has been restored to its original state of joy and engagement. Shout out to Maya too for her excellent service and new supervisory duties! Also to Angel, as he is the lone survivor of the turnover. Despite occupying a larger, ground floor space on Wisconsin Avenue several blocks north of M Street, NW, Compass Coffee feels like a neighborhood coffee shop in terms of both its overall vibe and somewhat unique offerings. The product displays are both attractive and well organized. Seasonal offerings are well highlighted on the menu. On this occasion, I stopped by for a small treat midway through a 15km walk. I took both a cherry blossom cold brew and an oatmeal cookie. Both were delicious. In the future, I'd very much appreciate having easy access to nutrition information either in the menu or online. A truly lovely coffee shop with a delightful ambiance and wonderful coffee! All of their coffee is perfectly brewed and never has the horrendous burned undertone that so many cheap coffee shops have. I adore their matcha latte on the days where I would rather have a warm cup of tea instead of actual coffee and their nitro cold brew is absolutely to die for. Everything is reasonably priced and the location is perfect, especially for Georgetown students. It's just a few blocks away from campus, allowing students to escape from campus for a bit but still not have to trek too far away. The environment is great for studying and for meetings, although it can often be a bit difficult to get a seat because it's such a popular spot. People are generally fairly quiet and the background music is relaxing. read more

I spent about a week in the Georgetown area and went here just about everyday. This place hit all of the marks for me--consistent espresso pulls, fruity notes in the coffee, reliably quick service, and a vibrant and clean seating area. I am pretty particular about my coffee, and tend to write-off places that produce a standard burnt bean coffee with a homogenous flavor profile. Compass is not that kind of place. Their beans are much more fruity in profile and pretty low in acidity. The espresso is smooth, but I highly recommend a small americano. The baristas pull it with a layer of crema and do not overly-dilute it with hot water. The vibe inside this location is lively, and you should have no trouble finding a seat! This place is huge! While it seems to be a good study spot for students, it is also a good place to meet friends and just talk over coffee. I just walked here everyday, but I can see the parking being a bit of an issue. I would recommend ride-sharing, biking, walking, etc. Finally, the baristas were speedy! I would order, fill up my water bottle, and my drink would already be ready. I don't know how they do it--but the service is some of the best. I can't wait to go back on future trips to the DC area! read more
