To kick off summer I came here and purchased 2 papaya matcha lemonade drinks which is one of their promotional seasonal drinks. It has papaya coconut milk along with some type of lime whip topping. I slipped away from work to walk over here and get these for a couple of people on my team. When I arrived, I realized that I should have given myself more time because the line was all the way to the door. The line moved along which was good. This Cafe is very nice and there are several rooms where people can drink coffee or eat breakfast. Because of all of the people, it was quite loud. I spent less than ten minutes and my fruitybdrinks were ready to go. This is a very nice Cafe.
I came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy, there wasn't a line to order and there was plenty of seating. The cherry blossom latte was really good! It is slightly sweet, but very tasty so I finished it pretty quickly. The barista made it with a white foam heart on top. Besides coffee, they sell kombucha, fruit juice, and a limited breakfast menu all day. This is a cute coffee shop to consider visiting in Georgetown.
My husband and I used to go to this Compass Coffee all the time. The baristas used to be so friendly and my husband thought the coffee was great. I've always been happy with my drink orders here. I decided to drop in and was surprised how much it has gone downhill since five years ago. The baristas were not friendly at all and were quietly rude and impatient. The environment felt chaotic but not in a fun bustling way like I remember. I could've ignored all of this if the order itself was actually good. Even just moderately good. But the iced matcha latte with almond milk that I got was surprisingly gross. Probably one of the worst (if not the worst) that I've ever gotten. I tried to give it several sips to give it a fair chance. But it was so bad, I eventually discarded of it after a few sips. It was watery and did not have a good flavor at all. $7 down the drain. For a matcha latte that is actually good, I'd recommend Maman just steps away, Blank Street on Prospect close to the Wisconsin intersection, or even CapitalOne Cafe on M Street which serves Verve Coffee (50% off house-made drinks if you use your CapitalOne card). I'd even bet that most coffee places in Georgetown have better matcha lattes than the one I got at this Compass. But those three were the only Georgetown ones I tried recently aside from this Compass location. This was a really disappointing experience, especially since this Compass Coffee was such a big part of when my husband and I used to live here. I guess good things don't last forever. Leaving two stars instead of one in memory of what this place used to be and also because the building itself is actually still quite nice.
Probably one of the top 5 coffee shops locations in DC for working remote or taking a business meeting. It's large with many chairs, tables and desk options. A lot of coffee shops in DC are small with not a lot of work spaces. This a true coffee shop. Then to add the coffee is the best in town. With different brew options. Nothing is water down. Service is top notch and the staff is friendly. Pros - great coffee - great brew options - large working space - fireplace - large plush couches Only con - I wish it was closer to me. The Navy Yard location looks nothing like this.
For those unfamiliar, Compass Coffee is a local coffee shop chain that roasts their own coffee. Veteran-owned, they have locations throughout the region. This one, inside an old theater, is among one of their biggest with plenty of seating. Their menu is straight forward with seasonal drinks changing. If you have a sweet tooth, I love their Almond Butter Latte. It's perfect!
Just on the corner good seating places in and out. Their coffee is delicious, they have bakery too.
We stopped by for a quick breakfast and coffees. They were quite busy and the line was long, but they've got a lot of seating and the food was out within a reasonable time. The sandwiches were pretty tasty: egg & bacon (2 strips, 1 piece slightly under cooked) on a very soft brioche type bun. My drip coffee was good, but my daughter LOVED her cold brew...said it might've been the best she'd had.
I am a bit of an espresso purist, and I was a little bit disappointed in my experience at compass coffee given the positive reviews I had seen. I could definitely see how the espresso brewed here, which is very strong in flavor, would do really well in a latte or cappuccino. However, individual shots seem to be too diluted, with a very weak crema that doesn't hold up. The service was super friendly the morning I visited, and my drink came out quickly. I really liked the indoor space, which looks like an excellent place to get some work done or read. I may consider returning to try one of the "fancier" drinks, but would see out other options in Georgetown for a straight shot of espresso.
Decided to drop in while in georgetown to try one of the specialty drinks, the cherry blossom latte. Very crowded place, but nice cozy ambience and a fireplace in the back too. Good for studying, lots of students there. Drink itself is not that great though, but perhaps the wrong thing was ordered
Stopped into Compass Coffee to warm up for a little, after walking around Georgetown with my fiancé. The shop was very busy, but we managed to find a table for two, after ordering a cappucino and a mocha. Both featured latte art, which was cute. The mocha was rich with chocolate, and the cappucino had great espresso flavor. Good shop to take a break from walking around in the cold.
I came when they first opened then I moved to another state and haven't come back until today. I used to always get their hot Nutella latte but I decided to try the iced version instead. This is the only place I know of that serves Nutella flavored drinks so I like that. It makes them more unique. This location is very spacious and convenient for those who wish to work on their computers here. Prior to this location I went to the Rosslyn location in Virginia. The price is around the same if not a little more than Starbucks. But I think its a great alternative to Starbucks. I'll be sure to stop by this location again next time I'm in the area.
This store is a great addition to the Georgetown area. It must be new because I didn't see it here before. I was slightly disappointed that the Wawa store across the street had closed down. I was intrigued by the large store location and seating outside. It was fall and they were already offering their pumpkin spice drinks. I was able to go in and place my order. There is a large amount of seating. Unfortunately it was all filled up with local students who were working and hanging out. I ordered a sandwich and iced coffee. The food is the same size as the breakfast sandwiches from Starbucks. The iced coffee was pretty good. This place seems like a fun area to hang out with others. I expected it to be filled with Georgetown students. It was a nice day so everyone was outside hanging out. I needed a nice pick me up and this place did the job. I will have to come back here again next time I am in town to try out their other flavors. read more

Fun, local experience. Packed with students and people working. Friendly staff. Free Wifi. Great location in town. Quick service despite a crowd. Lots of seating. Very big space for studying, working, meeting, or whatever. Has a little more local feel than Starbucks does at times. Give them a try. read more

Got the nitro cold brew & almond butter latte. They were both pretty good. Would recommend. Stopped by this place because we needed caffeine. We chose this place randomly because it was the closest to where we were, and wow, wasn't expecting this place to be packing with people. It almost feels like the pandemic doesn't exist. We were visiting in Jan, when it was omicron-era, but this place was full of people studying/chilling/hanging out with friends (they checked vaccination status as per the mandate). It was almost impossible to find a seat there, and the place is bigger than it looks from the outside. Ugh, I miss studying in cafe and feeling like I'm being productive. This place is like the perfect place to be (if you can find a seat). They even have self-serve water (still + sparkling) stations in the back - behind the counter, near the bathroom. read more

Loved the layout of this place. Even in Georgetown which can seem cramped, this was a deep setting and had great lighting. Service was extremely fast. I liked my nitro cold brew, would come back to try more drinks. I do wish that they had offered to warm/toast my croissant sandwich. It was very dry. read more
This is one of the most spacious cafes that I have ever been to in the city. It's nicely decorated with plenty of comfortable seats for everyone. I've already been here for about two hours, and I've had a pretty productive day here so far. This place is non-stressful and peaceful really. What you don't have is a lot of loud conversations or loud music for that matter. I ordered one of their Fall favorites called the pumpkin cream cold brew. They offer food and some pastries as well, but I skipped on eating anything at the moment. They also have some tables outside on the sidewalk which is nice, even on a nice warm day like today. In as much as I get bored with places quickly, I will for sure come back here again. read more

I come here every Tuesday with my coworkers and the service is always fast, kind, and consistent. The almond butter latte is my absolute favorite, but my coworkers love the matcha. This is a great place to work from home or study- there's always a low hum of people socializing but is still relatively quiet for focusing. I haven't had any of the baked goods yet but their pastry case is always full and looks fresh! read more

Love, love, love this place! Everyone here is welcoming and kind. I usually get the Nitro Cold Brew and it is amazing in its own. No need to add anything to it. I've had several different lattes and whatnot and they are really sweet. Too sweet for me. So the cold brew is perfect. You can get a 32oz growler of the nitro cold brew for about $13. The glass container is refillable so it's also environmentally friendly. If you refill you get a discount. Finally worth it. If you like black coffee this is what you need. read more
Decided to walk this area after getting call your mother bagels. Stopped in here for a coffee. We got the mint cold brew and the cherry blossom latte. The cold brew was okay I don't think we'd get it again. The cherry blossom latte was tasty and I thought the color was fun! Cute coffee shop with ample seating. read more
I absolutely love coming to this coffee shop! They have a wide variety of different snacks and pastries. In addition, same goes for their coffee choices! I purchased the cold brew growler which definitely took a couple days to finish! It's very strong and I highly recommend it for any of you high-caffeine dosage lovers like myself! I drank about 1/3 and I was feeling it! It's a nice area to come and sip on some coffee and to study as well! I've studied here a couple times already. It's a very welcoming environment and there are tons of seating! If you go towards the back, there are a lot of couches to sit on. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops in DC! I went to a different Compass Coffee two years ago the last time I was in town and loved the coffee. This location is spacious with a variety of seating options which was great for getting a little work down on my laptop. Friendly service and really fun and tasty seasonal specials. This time I got the cherry blossom latte, I also had the lavender latte another time. Two years ago, (it was so good I remember what I ordered) I had a seasonal Gingerbread Latte which is probably my favorite drink I've had from Compass Coffee. read more
This Compass location in Georgetown is awesome. It is big and spacious. It has two seating areas in the front and the back along with books you can read. The staff was friendly. I ordered a lavender oat latte that was really good. read more

After my walk this morning, I went to Compass Coffee in Georgetown to try one of their seasonal coffees. First time there. The place was packed, so I was lucky to get a seat. Great vibe, and I was impressed by how quickly the staff served us. My Maple Latte was so good! I can see why this place is very popular. read more
Not always the easiest neighborhood to find open spots for brunch (or parking), but was able to get some seating here on a holiday afternoon. Large interior with all sorts of seating in the back; filled mostly with people on their laptops (and a coffee). Didn't want anything elaborate, so settled on an Iced Latte ($4.75) and a Ham & Cheese Croissant ($4). Items come out quickly toward the end of the bar, and they have a station for utensils/sugar if necessary. Coffee is good - not too bitter and didn't require any extra sugar. The croissant was stale and the meat inside seemed haphazardly inserted. Probably would have been much better as a fresh item in the morning. Despite being off the main road, this coffee shop is popular and it shows. There is some seating outside, though no space heaters to speak of. Definitely a spot to pick up a cup for the day. read more
