I ordered the Matcha Iced Tea (OMG ) with a bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich. I believe that even the bread was made on site. When it came out it was HUGE. I had to share it with my friend. The workers are fast and friendly. I had to ask the owner what was in the hot sauce that they make and she had the biggest smile on her face as she detailed everything that was in it. While we were eating an older gentleman came in for a cake for his pet monkey. Yup you read that right. He has them make a gorgeous looking cake that looked good enough for a human to eat, but for his pet monkey. I wish I took a photo of it. It had lettuce all around it that was cut with such intricate slices.

Unfortunately, this visit didn't live up to those memories. We stopped in shortly after opening to pick up some desserts for the three-hour drive home. Despite being one of the only customers there, we were not acknowledged for over five minutes and eventually had to ask if we could place an order. It wasn't the most welcoming start to our visit. We ordered two large cupcakes and two regular cupcakes and were surprised by the prices. The large cupcakes, which were only slightly bigger than the regular ones, were $6.00 each. The regular cupcakes were $3.25 each and were about the size of the mini cupcakes you might find at a grocery store bakery. We chose simple flavors--chocolate with chocolate frosting and vanilla with chocolate frosting--so there wasn't anything particularly unique or specialty-inspired to justify the higher cost. Unfortunately, the cupcakes themselves were disappointing. The cake was dry, and the frosting was very stiff, which made them less enjoyable than we had hoped. Given the price point, we expected a much fresher and more flavorful product. It's always disappointing when a place you once loved doesn't deliver the same experience on a return visit. While we have fond memories of our first stop at Pastry Garden, this visit left us underwhelmed, and sadly, it's not a place we'll be rushing back to.

All of them are beautiful to look at and a delight on the tongue. They are not excessively sweet. It seems their forte is wedding cakes.

I definitely have the nicest mum in all of Jersey City. I think it was around $20 for my huge mum and I was going to buy some apple cider donuts, but when I saw they were charging $18 for 12 donuts I put the package back on the shelf.
