Went down to Commonwealth for a Jack N Cake event because Fat Kids Love Cake and Jack is always a staple in my belly. Great party, great service and really strong drinks being served which I'm a fan of. But the winner of the night were the beats that kept pumping through my bones during my terrible attempt at dancing. All my fortnite moves were in play. Orange Justice, the hype, the floss. It was Epic! Overall the night was so successful that i went back down the following Saturday as i happened to be downtown after watching the basketball games. Downtown venues have come a long way over the past four years and Commonwealth is hands down the most inviting that I've been to. There is a funny guy at the front door who looks like an Ex-Pro golfer but after a quick chat with him, you will want to invite him to all of your family gatherings or an addition to your foursome at your next round of golf. I had to pay for rooftop access but I didn't mind as I knew of the immersive beats that awaited me on the roof were worth paying for and the three women i was with were free (I'm talking about the cover charge still). Ohhh Commonwealth! What can l say about you... A group of girlfriends and l came here after our Uber driver recommended this place to us. I decided to yelp the location and figured it was worth giving it a shot to check out. I am so happy l did. The place was poppin w good music and an awesome crowd. The commonwealth has two levels. The lower level is pretty neat. Excellent lighting, great bartenders and a large seating area along the window with many tables center of the floor. Decor was pretty nice and the ambiance was fun. A dj on the lower level as well as the upper. The upper level was rooftop with a few heaters, full bar and spacious seating areas. The dj up here was excellent. He played just about everything and l swear my feet were numb from dancing all night. There was no cover charge for the ladies but the men had to pay $25. Lmao The prices of the drinks were not bad at all and they were pretty damn good as well as strong. Security in every corner in case you were wonderin. So as a Las Vegas local, I think it's necessary to have a night out on Freemont street every once in a while. I had some friends in town this past weekend and we really just wanted to do some bar hoping and have a good time. Commonwealth was in our route of bars to stop by and so when we arrived it was a line... Expected for a busy weekend I get it but it seemed like the entry took way too long for exactly what they were offering in this place. I've never been before but have heard mixed things about it. $10 cover is what they were charging for guys which was kind of like ehhh for this? A Bar? Sure whatever I was going with the flow but I think locals at least should get in free.. I'm not sure if that's because I'm a bit spoiled but I just don't pay for major clubs on the strip so it was a bit of a shock to me that they were charging a cover.. Anyways what's $10 right? Well $10 could've been towards one of my expensive drinks then again it is downtown so.. let's move on.. One thing that I did enjoy was the rooftop bar and DJ.. Music was okay I was able to do a cute little two step to a few songs but shortly after that I was over it.. One of the many bars you'll come across in DTLV's bar district. Me and a couple of friends stopped in for a couple of drinks. We grabbed a beer at the downstairs bar and took a moment to warm up (it was freezing out). Despite the cold, we couldn't resist heading to the second floor which had a rooftop bar setting. This is where the party was. Live DJ, great music and although the crowd was smaller than others from surrounding bars, they were active. I believe the cold played a huge part in this. A friend of a friend was DJing here on the first of the year, so we decided to check it out. The ambiance is very artsy and hipster, but definitely not exclusive to those crowd types. There is a more laid-back, speakeasy vibe in the downstairs area of the bar. The upstairs, rooftop area is the more upbeat, "boogie" vibe. I definitely appreciated both areas at any given time of the night. I can't remember the last time I've gone out to a club/lounge and danced ALL NIGHT! The music here was consistently excellent and the environment was welcoming and nonjudgmental. The drinks were reasonably priced (much cheaper than those watered-down, sugary drinks that are often served on The Strip) We had so much on Friday night that we ended up doubling back for Saturday night with an even larger group. All-in-all, this is now one of my favorite places to party in Vegas. Much less expensive and much easier to get to than the high-end, stereotypical places that The Strip has to offer. I will definitely make this a go-to place for any of my future trips to Vegas. It is undeniably a gem in the rapidly changing downtown area. read more

Let me start off by saying I used to love this bar. I have been coming for years without having any issues before. Last night I went with a group of friends and the doorman refused us entry because I was wearing black leggings which is apparently against their "dress code" on the weekends. I have worn leggings on the weekend before and never been denied entry. Last night was the first time I've ever been told they were against any "dress code". We ended up going next door to "we all scream" which had a much nicer rooftop bar, better music, better atmosphere in general. Lol so if you go here and the same asshat tries to discriminate against your leggings at the door, none of the other bars care and will gladly let you in. This place requires reservations, as per COVID. We arrived at our time, 10PM, and waited outside until 10:20. We were charged $6 per person (x4) for a small table. We were promised "Santa Spinning Tunes" which never happened. The service was iffy at best, this stop on our Vegas Vacation was a total waste of time and not worth the $24 "popcorn" charge and the 20% service charge. Super groovy bar-stop for a drink, conversation or just to hang out and chill. We claimed a table against the side window. It was just perfect for our small group of four to catch up and listen to music. We had dinner near-by and arrived before 8pm. We enjoyed, drank and chatted it up for about an hour before calling it an early night. The crowd was still relatively small in size. The décor, space, and vibe comes together nicely. It's a good sized bar and dim for when you want to stay a bit incognito in your comfy space. There's a young crowd 20s/30s mixed in with a smaller group of 40s and 50-somethings. Commonwealth attracts an interesting & eclectic clientele. Kudos to Jessica! She promptly greeted us with a friendly smile and quickly took our drinks order. I'm an individual that was originally asked to attend the soft-opening of this establishment in 2012... fast-forward to tonight and my wife and I were denied entry to the venue based on the door staff's interpretation of dress code. For background purposes, my wife and I are both frontline healthcare workers based in Southern California. I lived in proudly lived Las Vegas from 2008-2015 and have literally spent 10s of thousands of dollars at Commonwealth over that time. My wife is a Berkeley educated, down to earth individual that competed on the tennis team at Cal and traveled the world for a time while playing the pro tennis circuit. We've had a great vacationbthus far in Vegas and decided tonight was a perfect night to show love to one of our favorite spots in DTLV, Commonwealth. We arrived early around 10pm and we're told our outfits violated their dress code. I had on a Fear of God (FOG Essentials) polo shirt, slacks and sneakers. My wife was wearing a Zara blazer, pants and sustainable move2zero Nike sneakers.... Between both of us our outfits were clean, quality and values at over $1500.00.... HOWEVER, my gut tells me it wasn't about the outfits at all and it was more about our ethnicity. I'm a muscular African-American man and my wife is a above average 5'9" Asian American Woman. I explained to the manager (Shala?) There was a level of irony because the same person telling us no, with her nose piercings, crazy hair coloring and outfit that doesn't fit the dress cose itself, made it feel extra absurd and embarrassing to be treated and targeted like that and she accused use of discrimination towards them... I asked her who is the dress code for and what is the dress code for and she was silent. Then the refused an African American woman behind us who wasn't violating the dress code and I made I contact with the African American Bouncer and he had a look of "yeah they are on that bs here now and he's sorry" It's wild to me me, working in healthcare asking as we both have we are financial blessed and we came to DTLA to share our good fortune away from the strip. Earlier this evening we spent $300.00 on dinner for just the two of us at FUHU and I've attached a image of just how intimidating we looked... I will also attach a few public images of from their public Instagram account that seem to contradict the explanation of why we were not of the caliber to be allowed in this venue (nba Jersey, cut off tee shirt, ripped jeans, sports shorts).... Also a shot from 2013 when the venue welcomed me with open arms. Today your staff picked wrong one .... Shout out to the good folks next door at Corduroy who treated us with dignity and respect and comped us the first round of drinks after we shared what has transpired. Great atmosphere here. Went to play Harry Potter Trivia night, but they obviously didn't expect it to be so busy. The vibe was hipster with tennis rackets for tap pulls and vintage lighting, etc. It would be a great place to hang out of it wasn't so crowded. Tried to get a drink and it took thirty minutes. The bartenders were super slow. The dj and door staph were super friendly though. We left because there was no room to sit and it was already so hot and uncomfortable. Bringing your out of town friends who are not ready for the Strip nightlife to downtown is a good idea. Commonwealth is my favorite bar in this area. It's beautiful. The downstairs indoor area looks like a spacious vampire den. They have great happy hour specials and it's air conditioned. The rooftop is great for dancing though it can get crowded. The music is from the early 2000's. The night I went it was a young local crowd, and way more women than men. Come early if possible to avoid the massive line outside and don't wear flip flops. Aside from the dress code, just don't wear flip flops downtown because, have you seen the sidewalk? I'm strapping on moon boots. read more

Wow this was a huge disappointment! If I could, I would give it zero stars. First off at the door they were charging $20 for men to enter- LOCALS INCLUDED. Then once you paid you were subject to a pat down by rude security. As if this is a cheap ghetto bar that has fights or service issues. Then if you wanted to get access to the rooftop lounge, men paid $10- LOCALS INCLUDED. Awful cash grab that one any weeknight is free access for everyone. And to top it off NO OTHER BAR ON THE STREET CHARGED A COVER FOR ANYONE. The drinks were made horrifically, bad proportions on a couple simple drinks (jack& coke, sex on the beach, little hot mess a signiture house drink- couldn't get it right.) The door security would not allow you to leave out the normal in/out door, you had to leave out the exit. Normally this was one of my favorite trendy bars, but after this experience there is no reason to go back. I was really excited to check out Commonwealth last night for my friend's birthday and was surprised to be turned away for not having a back to my sandal. It was a buzz kill initially until we found plenty of other places to drop some money, drink cocktails, and dance. The website says no flip flops and dressy casual. My sandals were a classy 1 inch wedge with two straps on the front. Management needs to be more specific on the website. I would have worn my heels if I knew it was going to be an issue. I hope to update my review after a visit in the future but I think it's important for people to know especially if you're going out for a special event. read more

This place is super trendy! I kinda felt out of place. I got some buy one get one free ons out front while getting dropped off so I was obligated at that point to have a drink there. The vibe is cool, kinda felt like flapper era. It was super classy and elegantly decorated. The beers are super expensive and I now understand why they can buy one get one without flinching... The staff was pretty quick, however bartenders has no problem being rude by cutting off your question or statement and completely ignoring you. I get it, drunk Vegas, im sure they get tired of it. The place was in full holiday spirit with Christmas trees, decorations and reindeer all around. The cocktails were beyond exceptional and the staff were fabulously friendly. Bar staff was incredibly rude. I was looking for the speakeasy and a kitchen staff member pointed to a door under the staircase. I turned the handle (it was locked) and immediately felt someone aggressively grab my arm. I turned and a woman shouted, "STOP TRYING TO OPEN THE DOOR!!!" I was shocked, I've never had someone lay their hands on me in a place of business before. She became completely unglued. I would understand if I was trying to break the door down, but I literally just turned the handle. I gestured to my friend and we immediately left. Wouldn't give my money to this place.
