Drag Queens are icons of creativity, self-expression, empowerment, confidence, & glamour. I love drag shows, so whenever I'm in New Orleans I make it a point to check out a new one. I've heard good things about Trixie Minx Drag Burlesque shows, so I made reservations for my brother's birthday. Located inside the Virgin Hotel, this restaurant exudes Southern Charm. The kitschy décor adds a nice touch. We were a bit early, so we sat at the bar for some pre-brunch cocktails. Brunch is $40 for two courses - 3 options each. (Bottomless Mimosas $39) Since there were three of us, we each elected something different so we could try each one. Everything was delicious. I especially liked the Pimento Cheese Biscuit & Beignets. The Queens were fabulous, and their performance was a tribute to Dolly Parton. Unfortunately, we were off to the side and towards the end, so we didn't get a good view. I appreciate the Queens that made the effort to perform on our end and thankful to our server for bringing my brother a birthday dessert so he could make a wish.

Service was great! The atmosphere was calming, well suited, rich, and felt like simple luxury. The decor of the restaurant and the surrounding longes is gorgeous. Then the cherry on top was of course, the food! It was delicious! Prepared fresh, seasoned to perfection, beautifully plated, and great serving sizes. I have not one complaint! If you're going for breakfast, I'd recommend the Commons Club Breakfast. I preferred it with all bacon, hubby liked it with their house made sausage & bacon (as it comes). If you do dinner, I'd highly recommend the Short Rib!! It was to die for!!

I am telling yall, BEST martini espresso in the city - praline if the key

If you want to visit a beautiful hotel and feel like you are on vacation, you have to check out the Virgin Hotel. It has some of the best decor. I just love hotel bars/restaurants. We dined here last Sunday, June 1, and you walk in a go through the coffee library, it is called the Funny Library. And there is plenty of insta photos to be had here, plenty of photo ops with the bunny suit man art piece. I really enjoyed the fun playfulness here. On to the podium where we checked in for our brunch reservations. The girl behind the counter asked if we wanted to dine at the bar area or in the standard room. I asked what is more fun? And she said, for sure, the bar area and there is a puppy yoga class going on upstairs, so I may be able to people and puppy watch! She was the sweetest and most accommodating hostess. I adored her! She set up the area along the couches so we could easily dine while being in the middle of all the fun. I hope she gets a raise for making our dining experience extra special. Our waitress arrived, who was also very kind, we ordered the martini espresso and I am not kidding - it is the BEST. They have a praline mix that elevates this espresso and I have tried my share of martini espressos in the city. This one wins the crown, hands down! For entrees I ordered the curry chicken fried chicken. OMG the flavors married each other; they worked so well together! And I ordered some fillers since it was a day drinking day, fries - crispy to perfection and the croissant - also crispy and flaky, and huge! I already made reservations to bring more friends back here. This was one of the best brunches I have had in a long time. I'd give it more stars if I could. Thank you!

We were staying at the Virgin Hotel and came down for multiple meals. I really thought it would be good, as there was consistent traffic throughout the day, however, the food was mostly disappointing. Everything sounds great with the ingredients and descriptions on the menu, but the execution was lackluster. The broken eggs were plain, the steak sandwich had tough meat and bread, the gnochetti were extremely al dente, the cheesecake mouse was just a few small balls of cream, and the new vanilla bread pudding was like one large and soggy piece of plain bread. Even the latte was good one day and terrible the next. With so many amazing restaurants in NOLA, I don't think I'd go out of my way for this one.

I should have known when they had plenty of same day Christmas Day reservations that there was a reason. The space is beautiful, the staff is kind. The menu is sparse and boring. The food is terrible. I ordered an oyster dish and was given (mushy) mussels. The sweet server was so frazzled by life that it wasn't worth making a fuss when the sparse menu had nothing to replace it anyway. My daughter's steak was dry as pantyhose. The potatoes didn't even have the smallest sprinkle of salt or any other seasoning. My husband's chicken dish (which also had those bland potatoes) desperately needed flavor as well. Two others in our party simply didn't order anything the menu was so lackluster. This is New Orleans and food needs to be at a most basic level and this spot is so far below that it's embarrassing.

The hotel lobby, restaurant and bar have a great vibe as the decor is hipster, and mid-modern century. The service was impeccable. They were attentive, friendly and provided amazing customer service. We were recommended a Portuguese rosè, which was phenomenal, along with beignets. I had the Wagu Smash burger and it was delicious, sorry not pictured, as I was too excited to take a bite. Highly recommend eating and drinking at this establishment!

After checking out recommendations for NOLA, Commons Club was one that I knew we simply had to check out. We made a reservation for the 4 of us and had a nice quiet spot in the restaurant. It's truly a BEAUTIFUL space in the hotel and I loved the waiting area by the bar. If we had more time to kill before dinner, I would have been sitting up there enjoying a glass of wine while we waited. When we were reviewing the menu, I made the executive decision that we had to try multiple apps LOL. It was just too hard to pick! So we feasted, ordered our mains and drinks and had a swell time. Our server was on it and had no issues joking with us and keeping up with our shenanigans. Loved it. Amazing dishes: * Nettle toast - omg, so flavorful * Tempura fried asparagus - such a treat * Deviled duck eggs - no explanation needed * Pork osso bucco - you will NOT be disappointed in the beauty of this dish (side note - it just needed a little salt, for me) * LA wagyu smash burger - again, no explanation needed The grilled hanger steak with gigante beans was also delicious but we all agreed it needed seasoning/salt to really make the dish shine. I was really happy with this meal overall and would definitely go back!

Our Waitress Anne Marie was exceptionally helpful with choice of the food options at this impeccable and delightful eatery. She was superb with her Customer Service. The food and romantic ambiance is excellent. If my Husband and I could give this place 100 stars, I would!

Short rib arancini, muffelata sliders, and a Moscow Mule, just like the First Thanksgiving!
    Glen N.

It's got something for everyone- the side areas near the windows are very cafe-ish, the patio is restaurant-ic, the few seats around the server are barlike, the luxurious back rooms are very lounge-y, the Central Perk-ly mismatched sofa area is coffeeshop-esque- I guess finding a comfortable spot is what the customers all have in Commons. See what I did there? Aptly described by Virgin as "relaxed but elegant", the mornings have so little traffic you might think it's closed. Things don't pick up until Social Hour and especially at night when the lighting (and live music) transforms the place into something Miami-ory. (Ok, that suffix didn't work- it sounds boob-ious) The weekday Social Hour is great for flavorful $7+ items (although there wasn't anything for vegetarians other than grilled peaches). I got the Moscow Mule, which was Da!licious. The stacked muffaletta sliders were fine. I loved the short rib arancini (warning: they were unexpectedly blue-cheesy). As for breakfast: The garlic fries are a great way to start your day (and to disgust the rednecks in Trump shirts beside you on the swamp tour). The busy fried egg breakfast sandwich (with perfectly-almost-underdressed arugula side salad) is good- though a little fancier than I need: the next day I just got two fried eggs on a bagel. The fresh avocado toast is hearty, but a little mushy and fork dependent- I'd prefer just side avocado and side toast to keep it crispy. But I am a simple guy. I don't stand up when the plane lands, I pee on the poop stains to clean the toilet, and I call my cat by his given Christian name instead of 50 nicknames.

We stayed here at the hotel and commons club was notoriously bad service but a hella vibe. Shoutout to everyone at the Virgin though good vibes.

    Kelly R.

The hanger steak with gigante beans and asparagus was almost perfect! I say almost perfect because the asparagus required chewing way too vigorously to digest. Way too stalky, but the steak and beans were perfection. The wagyu smash burger was delicious! The cheesecake mousse had a fantastic flavor with the blackberry curd but the peaches were very unripe. Even with the criticisms, The Commons Club was one of the best dinners we experienced during our stay in NOLA!

Wow! This place was fantastic!!!! The shrimp in particular are to die for!!! Drinks are perfect! Hush puppies were nice and crispy w/ a tartar sauce . Service was very good ask for Paulina she was friendly & her recommendations hit the stop! Ambiance was very pleasant... vibe, music volume everything was just what i was looking for.

The presentation of the food came was amazing. We ordered the linguine and added meatballs, which was well worth it. We also ordered the shrimp & grits, which included Brussels sprouts. Boy, it was sure nice to get some vegetables in my stomach after eating all that yummy fried food during our stay! All in all, both dishes were delicious. It is a little on the pricey side, but after several days of eating in the touristy area of the French Quarter, this was truly a welcome change. Service was polite and attentive. I always appreciate the staff's efforts by making simply making eye contact and smiling (which they did). Seems trivial but I think those small things says a lot about a business. I would recommend this restaurant even if you are not a guest of the hotel.

The ambiance is amazing, plus velvet, emerald and sapphire tone, glitzy, and feels like a good photo op. The bar and cocktail menu looked expansive. However, I was going to be hopping on a meeting, so I could not partake, unfortunately. A group got this impressive tower of espresso martini and everyone seemed to be enjoying their drinks! I wanted that New Orleans seafood but had late lunch, so I opted for just the crispy gulf shrimp on cheesy grits. I really wished I can hungrier because the dish ended up being very heavy. The shrimp were nice and crispy. The charred Brussels sprouts gave me the false sense that this was a healthy dish because I was getting my veggie intake. The bacon jam was sweet and went well with the Brussels sprouts. I loved the combination of the cheesy grits and the Crystal hot sauce. It was the perfect amount of both and some how led me to understand why Americans put hot sauce on their Mac n cheese and some other cheesy dishes after 30 years of not really understanding the attraction to that combo. I got the marinated olives to go so I could have a little snack later. They were just stuff I feel I could get in a jar... not really sure if I could justify the price. I think this is a fine place if you're looking for a photogenic night out drinking with a group of friends. Could be really cute for brunch!

My wife and I visited on our first NoLa trip together about 4 years ago and make it a point to go every time now. Our first time we stopped in for lunch at the bar and had an excellent experience, and decided to return. We came back on the next trip just to grab a drink and a snack before heading down for dinner in the Bywater. The bartender (Chris) gave a bunch of recommendations for places to visit that way, all of which we have done in the past few trips and have loved. But it's this past trip where we were truly blown away. We were in town for JazzFest and after walking back to the French Quarter, we were thinking about food options and decided to take a gamble to see if we could get a seat at the bar or maybe grab a drink for the road before getting food somewhere else. The bar was full when we got there around 8/8:15, but they had a no show and could serve us, as long as we ordered quickly and were ok with the check hitting the table right at 9PM. Given our slightly (perhaps generous) inebriated state from being at the festival all day and being slightly underdressed, we felt this was quite a kind accommodation. With the clear expectations of needing to get our orders in quickly, we wasted no time making a decision on our drinks and a few food options. Despite this need for a quick turn around, at no time did we feel rushed. The food and drinks were absolutely perfect, as they always are. But what impressed us most was the staff. At no point did the hostess or wait staff seem annoyed by us, despite us parachuting in from a music festival and looking like sunburn and poor decisions. By managing expectations on the front end, we never felt rushed despite the need for a quick turn around. They were all lovely, professional, and as cordial as if we were regulars with standing reservations once a week. In terms of atmosphere, it is always perfect: lively and fun for a date night, dinner with friends/family, or just a nice drink before a night out and about. I truly cannot begin to explain how much I love this restaurant and every experience I've had there. The awards and accolades this establishment (a sincere and lofty term Jewel of the South truly deserves) have been awarded are beyond well earned. Restaurants around the country should aspire to provide the quality of food, service, and overall hospitality Jewel of the South provides on a regular basis. It will continue to be our first and foremost recommendation to anyone we know who is going to New Orleans. Bravo! We shall return!

Inside, The Apothecary was serving adults. Let Bourbon Street keep the grenades. Give me the anecdote .

The ambiance was absolutely stunning. We arrived at night, and even in the dim lighting, the charm of the space--from the books lining the walls to the velvet chairs and lush animal-print accents--created the perfect Saturday night vibe. It was also quieter than a typical bar, which made it feel refined and intimate; you can actually enjoy a real conversation while soaking in the beauty of the space. The drink menu is short but tasteful, with a wide range of profiles. With an exceptionally skilled bartender (sad I did not catch his name), every cocktail was perfectly balanced and beautifully executed. He was also happy to craft off-menu drinks by request. The host was also warm, funny, and attentive. We didn't get to try the food this time, but we're already looking forward to it on our next visit!

The entrance is nice with an overhead and plants lining the walk down into the lounge. Once you're in you're greeted by a hostess, who was actually a bit snarky and rude when seating us for our reservation (also said by another guest we spoke to). The actual space itself is moody, dimly lit with red accents throughout. It has a polished feel and the environment is incredibly intimate. Our waitress was very nice and made ordering with a party of 10 seamless. For our order we got a banana Negroni and a glass of white wine. The wine was great, crisp and sweet. The Negroni was strong and bold with the banana peeking through the drink with flavor. They also offer a few bites off their menu but we opted not to grab one there. The whole experience was fun and everyone liked their drinks. It's a great place to relax and get some drinks but the experience with the hostess was a bit off-putting. A great option if you're looking for a quiet, more refined cocktail lounge to enjoy a drink in NOLA.
