Drag Queens are icons of creativity, self-expression, empowerment, confidence, & glamour. I love drag shows, so whenever I'm in New Orleans I make it a point to check out a new one. I've heard good things about Trixie Minx Drag Burlesque shows, so I made reservations for my brother's birthday. Located inside the Virgin Hotel, this restaurant exudes Southern Charm. The kitschy décor adds a nice touch. We were a bit early, so we sat at the bar for some pre-brunch cocktails. Brunch is $40 for two courses - 3 options each. (Bottomless Mimosas $39) Since there were three of us, we each elected something different so we could try each one. Everything was delicious. I especially liked the Pimento Cheese Biscuit & Beignets. The Queens were fabulous, and their performance was a tribute to Dolly Parton. Unfortunately, we were off to the side and towards the end, so we didn't get a good view. Wanted to do something different for Valentine's Day with my son and my husband so we decided to give this brunch menu a try. The waitress serving us recommended the GNOCCHETTI $25 dish that I got, which was good. But it's not really a breakfast dish unless you get extra eggs so I ordered an extra scrambled egg on the side. I don't know that I will go back and order that again because there's so many other things you can get for that price point, but it did serve the purpose of trying something new. We came during Mardi Gras so it wasn't too packed because everybody was on the parade route, but I know typically their brunches are pretty full when it comes to patrons. This is in the Virgin Hotel as you know so there will always be hotel guests eating here. Overall, everything was good, not spectacular, but we always enjoy our time anywhere in the hotel. read more

If you want to visit a beautiful hotel and feel like you are on vacation, you have to check out the Virgin Hotel. It has some of the best decor. I just love hotel bars/restaurants. We dined here last Sunday, June 1, and you walk in a go through the coffee library, it is called the Funny Library. And there is plenty of insta photos to be had here, plenty of photo ops with the bunny suit man art piece. I really enjoyed the fun playfulness here. On to the podium where we checked in for our brunch reservations. The girl behind the counter asked if we wanted to dine at the bar area or in the standard room. I asked what is more fun? And she said, for sure, the bar area and there is a puppy yoga class going on upstairs, so I may be able to people and puppy watch! She was the sweetest and most accommodating hostess. I adored her! She set up the area along the couches so we could easily dine while being in the middle of all the fun. I hope she gets a raise for making our dining experience extra special. Our waitress arrived, who was also very kind, we ordered the martini espresso and I am not kidding - it is the BEST. They have a praline mix that elevates this espresso and I have tried my share of martini espressos in the city. This one wins the crown, hands down! For entrees I ordered the curry chicken fried chicken. OMG the flavors married each other; they worked so well together! And I ordered some fillers since it was a day drinking day, fries - crispy to perfection and the croissant - also crispy and flaky, and huge! Service was great! The atmosphere was calming, well suited, rich, and felt like simple luxury. The decor of the restaurant and the surrounding longes is gorgeous. The Commons Club is usually a great experience--the decor is beautiful, the space is comfortable, and the atmosphere is always a vibe. We had reservations for the Thanksgiving buffet, and the food was tasty with exceptional, attentive service at first. Unfortunately, one staff member significantly disrupted the experience. She approached our table without speaking, reached across us to remove plates while we were still eating, and returned later to grab items again without acknowledgment. When I asked her not to, she responded with visible irritation, eye-rolling and audibly sucking her teeth. When I requested a manager, our server mentioned there had already been complaints. During my conversation with the manager, the rude staff member returned to our table, hands balled in fists and had to be asked to leave. It took the manager several minutes to get her to walk away. While we didn't let it completely ruin the evening, we did cut our visit short as she was near the buffet when we went to get more food. While we received a round of comped drinks, that in no way makes up for the encounter. One person's lack of professionalism--and the manager's inability to effectively address it--made this experience disappointing. I'm hesitant to return, as encountering that staff member again would be enough to turn us away. read more

I really thought it would be good, as there was consistent traffic throughout the day, however, the food was mostly disappointing. Everything sounds great with the ingredients and descriptions on the menu, but the execution was lackluster. The broken eggs were plain, the steak sandwich had tough meat and bread, the gnochetti were extremely al dente, the cheesecake mouse was just a few small balls of cream, and the new vanilla bread pudding was like one large and soggy piece of plain bread. Even the latte was good one day and terrible the next. With so many amazing restaurants in NOLA, I don't think I'd go out of my way for this one. read more

After checking out recommendations for NOLA, Commons Club was one that I knew we simply had to check out. We made a reservation for the 4 of us and had a nice quiet spot in the restaurant. It's truly a BEAUTIFUL space in the hotel and I loved the waiting area by the bar. If we had more time to kill before dinner, I would have been sitting up there enjoying a glass of wine while we waited. When we were reviewing the menu, I made the executive decision that we had to try multiple apps LOL. It was just too hard to pick! So we feasted, ordered our mains and drinks and had a swell time. Our server was on it and had no issues joking with us and keeping up with our shenanigans. Loved it. Amazing dishes: * Nettle toast - omg, so flavorful * Tempura fried asparagus - such a treat * Deviled duck eggs - no explanation needed * Pork osso bucco - you will NOT be disappointed in the beauty of this dish (side note - it just needed a little salt, for me) * LA wagyu smash burger - again, no explanation needed The grilled hanger steak with gigante beans was also delicious but we all agreed it needed seasoning/salt to really make the dish shine. I should have known when they had plenty of same day Christmas Day reservations that there was a reason. The space is beautiful, the staff is kind. The menu is sparse and boring. The food is terrible. I ordered an oyster dish and was given (mushy) mussels. The sweet server was so frazzled by life that it wasn't worth making a fuss when the sparse menu had nothing to replace it anyway. My daughter's steak was dry as pantyhose. The potatoes didn't even have the smallest sprinkle of salt or any other seasoning. My husband's chicken dish (which also had those bland potatoes) desperately needed flavor as well. Two others in our party simply didn't order anything the menu was so lackluster. This is New Orleans and food needs to be at a most basic level and this spot is so far below that it's embarrassing. read more

It's got something for everyone- the side areas near the windows are very cafe-ish, the patio is restaurant-ic, the few seats around the server are barlike, the luxurious back rooms are very lounge-y, the Central Perk-ly mismatched sofa area is coffeeshop-esque- I guess finding a comfortable spot is what the customers all have in Commons. See what I did there? Aptly described by Virgin as "relaxed but elegant", the mornings have so little traffic you might think it's closed. Things don't pick up until Social Hour and especially at night when the lighting (and live music) transforms the place into something Miami-ory. (Ok, that suffix didn't work- it sounds boob-ious) The weekday Social Hour is great for flavorful $7+ items (although there wasn't anything for vegetarians other than grilled peaches). I got the Moscow Mule, which was Da!licious. The stacked muffaletta sliders were fine. I loved the short rib arancini (warning: they were unexpectedly blue-cheesy). As for breakfast: The garlic fries are a great way to start your day (and to disgust the rednecks in Trump shirts beside you on the swamp tour). The busy fried egg breakfast sandwich (with perfectly-almost-underdressed arugula side salad) is good- though a little fancier than I need: the next day I just got two fried eggs on a bagel. The fresh avocado toast is hearty, but a little mushy and fork dependent- I'd prefer just side avocado and side toast to keep it crispy. But I am a simple guy. I don't stand up when the plane lands, I pee on the poop stains to clean the toilet, and I call my cat by his given Christian name instead of 50 nicknames. read more

Just came here with my bridal party and it was such an amazing experience. Mary took good care of us and made sure we had everything we wanted even if they didn't have it in the menu. One of my bridesmaids loves ranch so the chef made it for scratch for her. Best ranch we all have ever tasted. The chef also gifted us one of his signature dishes for us to try. The waiter's customer service ruined our experience. He took a while to reach us, but after ordering a glass of wine, we waited 15 minutes for it after we inquired about it. We had to stop him from leaving the table to take our appetizer order, and this pattern continued for 30 minutes with no updates, water, or second drink order. We stopped him again to place our entree order, and after another 15 minutes, we were at an hour of nothing. When we asked about the delay, he looked as if we were being unreasonable. We asked in canceling the food would be hard or if it wasn't even close to being ready and he checked and said it would be fine to cancel. We canceled our food order and left with no meal on Christmas night. I understand it was Christmas, but our server's disregard was unacceptable. If he was working double positions due to staffing shortages, which there was visibly not, he should have communicated that to us. Even a simple check-in would have been appreciated. I had to lead the conversation every time we flagged him down since each time he acted confused as to what we possibly could need. read more

Spicy bloody not really spicy at all. Our menu had/we got churro and grilled asparagus starters. Churo was balls and needed more caramel sauce. Asparagus was served cold which is not my jam. Everyone in my group got the crispy pork belly and waffles. 3 out of 4 were pretty fatty. Personally I wanted something sweeter on the waffles than the pepper jelly. We heard great things about Commons Club and decided to make a reservation for Thanksgiving dinner on November 28. We are visiting from out of town. Our reservation was for 7:15. We were not seated until about 9:15 because no tables were available until then. Other customers were in the same position as we were. All told, we were in that restaurant for nearly three hours. Very frustrating. The poor young girl who was hostessing said it was because more people showed up than expected and were given tables despite those with reservations. Once seated the food came pretty fast. The Thanksgiving dinner we paid $145 for was TERRIBLE!!! It was three slices of turkey breast that was a bit dry and some sort of mush that apparently was in place of mashed potatoes (mashed potatoes are a traditional side dish on Thanksgiving, so I am not sure what this mush was about). There was a glub of cranberry sauce and extremely overcooked, soggy green beans. The only part of the meal that was tasty was the dessert. It was very disappointing. My two positive comments are that the server did her job appropriately given the circumstances, and the decor was beautiful. If we ever go to New Orleans again, we will never go to this disappointing restaurant. read more

The food which was a simple salad and grilled cheese was exquisite and had nothing simple about it. With leman curd and raspberries around the plate. Fantastic. I got the chocolate cake. Semi sweet with fresh crème fraiche. Just amazing! Service recovered with a visit from the manager. Came here for a Lundi Gras dinner date with my fellow Yelp Elite gal pal. I'm a sucker for an aesthetic, and the Virgin Hotel most certainly delivered! The dining menu is very small. I ordered steak frites and they were just "ok". I also ordered a lemon drop as well as a Mardi Gras special drink, "Puck's Cup". The special drink was my favorite. -The ambiance here is lovely! It's filled with loads of green plants. There's light music going in the background. I came around 8pm, so I had their dinner menu. I got the Wagyu Burger with the bacon aioli sauce on the side. I forgot to ask for no pickles, but to my surprise I really enjoyed it!! It's like they steamed and seasoned it so it was so good, this is coming from a pickle hater. The Bayou Cora Cornbread and I wasn't a fan.... The cornbread was salty and not sweet. I got the heading south drink, it was delish... very refreshing! Surprised by the waiters honest review of most of the meals. I had the duck and it delicious. The sweet potatoes were firm which I've never had before. The mushroom fritters were almost like a hush puppy. Good flavor but wanted more mushroom. The chilled pea soup was refreshing and bright. It had a slight texture to it.
