I have been here a few times and the baristas are always so nice. I had the "mom's oatmeal" which was okay. It had a lot of nuts and fruit but was very watered down. I have heard the avocado toast is good and I am going to try that next. Their coffees are middle of the road for me... but I am very hard to please with coffee. BUT their strawberry matcha is to die for. This place gets very busy but they are pretty fast. read more

I was not expecting the coffee to be as good as it is in the brightly lit lobby of an office building. There was plenty of seating, the staff was friendly, and they took care with the espresso I ordered. The first shot they pulled wasn't up to their standards, so they poured it out before giving it to me and made a new one. The drip coffee was great too. read more

Was in Houston for the playoff games. My sister and I didn't want to go to chain coffee shop and she found this place. When we arrived there were no signs letting us know where the coffee shop was. There was a gentleman looking for the same place as well. We decided to go up one more floor and surprise surprise there it was. I for the jasmine green tea. I was feeling a bit under the weather. I wasn't a big fan of it bc it was more jasmine than anything. We did come back a couple of days later and o for the English breakfast tea with honey and that was delicious. The coffee shop is in an office building on the 3rd floor. It was a cute, we wanted to come back to work bc they had lots of seating but it just didn't happen. read more

This place was a little tricky getting to it as we were staying downtown and just looking for a coffee shop close by. It's inside of an office building that has no signs that lets you know it's there. We hopped on the elevator to the third floor and the front desk staff directed us. It's a very cute coffee shop with plenty of seating to work there. I ordered an iced pumpkin spiced latte. SB has nothing on them; hands down the best pumpkin spiced latte I've ever had read more

Located on the 3rd floor lobby level of 5 Houston Center, this coffee shop supplied caffeine for many professionals working in the surrounding buildings through the dark age when Starbucks decided to close its original Houston Shops location during Covid. Price point is similar to other independent coffee shops in Houston, a lavender almond milk latte would cost you about $7. Plenty of seating in the building lobby and service is pretty good, however you will most likely be stuck in line behind all the corporate caffeine junkies. read more

The greatest discovery of all time. Especially when I'm running late In the mornings and can't make coffee at home. Perched in the Houston Five Center building on McKinney, it's in the Fulbright tower and a perfect place to mingle or grab a cup of joe on the run. Staff are super friendly and you're looking at paying for trendy craft coffee...so don't be alarmed when you pay for your Sea Salt Coconut latte with that milk sub. :) Love the vibes and it really brings a more modern feel to the overall vibe of the building. read more

Excellent coffee. A bit of a treasure hunt to find, as it is in the third floor of an office building with no signage until you find it in the corner of a bright, spacious lobby. My latte was professionally prepared using their own roast. I also tried an almond croissant, which was also very good. Highly recommended if you are in the area. read more

OMG... I literally had the best bowl of oatmeal I have ever had in my life! It was so flavorful. And the blend of fruit, nuts, and brown sugar was delish! I accompanied it with a Cinnamon Toast Crunch latte and it tasted just like the milk after you eat all of the cereal with a bold punch. The baristas were pleasant and appeared to enjoy themselves. A great spot to grab a morning coffee at the Houston Center area in Downtown. Staff is very friendly and quick with their service. Since it's located in an office building, they usually close after lunch hours. It's located in the 5 Houston Center building. You can access the building through the sky bridge so it's pretty convenience. You can also find parking in the connected garage and go to the third floor which is the lobby of the building. This coffee shop will be down on your right. I'm glad I work in the building so it's just a quick trip down for coffee or breakfast. My two favorite items are the hot matcha latte and the avocado toast. Avocado toast was delish and portion was pretty big. read more

Bright, warm, modern coffee shop on the third floor of an office building. It's a lovely space and you can sit anywhere in the large Lobby to enjoy your coffee and do coworking if needed. Plenty of electrical outlets for your PC, and relatively quiet. The coffee is a little bit pricey but it is basically downtown and so it is what I would expect. The service is excellent. read more

Great gear- top of the line espresso machine, pour over kits, six Chemex glassware ready to go for the larger parties, excellent single origin and blends, artisan pastries, etc- w the baristas to match. Knowledgeably executing all the right things- excellent shot pulls, milk foam consistency, latte Art- you can't really go wrong. Highly recommend. Please keep in mind the sense of coffee snobbery from which I write. This is a hidden gem inside of a commercial building. 3rd floor, past security. I ordered their cold latte Cinnamon Toast Crunch and let me tell you it was delicious. It wasn't too sweet and can taste the coffee. It had the right balance between the flavors. The customer service was Rick solid. I enjoyed this little coffee shop a lot. Go here for sure when your visiting Houston. read more

Common grounds Uncommon Coffee is one of my favorites places when they first opened up. Unfortunately I cannot remmeber the year they opened - but I've been it's fan since day 1 (lol). The service is amazing, the staff is super nice. It pretty much gotten to the point I am a regular and they know my order . My usual is a milk and honey latte either iced or warm. They always get the right amount and it is a slight hint of sweetness and bitterness. Their masala chai is just homely. Another drink I would recommend!! The spices is just right, and you can tell it is legit and authentic. If you're not a fan of coffee - they have a good selection of tea to choose from which is boiled with loose leafs. Pretty good if I must say! Overall 4.5/5 I would recommend it to everyone who can walk and grab a good cup of coffee. It is a little pricy for the amount you get but overall, it is worth it. The staff work really hard and never have to make you wait for a long time. Note: I've finally wrote a review on this place yay! Unfortunately I got terminated and have no clue if I would be able to have this place again. I'll truly miss this place - the staff and coffee. They're super nice and I've never gotten to know their name. I hope their coffee shop thrives and expand outside of downtown. read more

Love their green tea latte with oat milk! Deliciously creamy with a touch of bitterness from the matcha. The baristas are always extremely kind and even let me place an order over the phone once! The seating area is beautiful and I love the open concept. The only issue I've had is that they don't whisk their matcha thoroughly before pouring it into the cup, so oftentimes there's clumps floating about. Would love to come back! read more

So my coworker and I stumbled upon this place. We normally go to Starbucks in the lyondell building but we tried this place and we're blown away! The sandwiches were amazing! As the name states, there is nothing common about the coffee here, it's simply superb. At first sip, I could tell the beans selected were meticulously roasted to perfection, giving it a smooth tasting but also a bold cup of coffee. The place is immaculate and the ambience is very contemporary while providing a ton of space to sit and enjoy quite possibly the best cup of coffee I have tasted. Thanks for spoiling me Common Grounds with your quality and taste, I can't go anywhere else for coffee again. I will be back, most definitely. read more

I was happy to be there within the initial few hours of their first day, and I was already impressed when I saw how excited they were to be open for business! I don't typically have high expectations of coffee places located in office buildings, so it was a pleasant surprise that these folks are serious about their craft - both in terms of the drinks and the customer service. Also important to note: Common Grounds is a great place for casual business meetings since the seating area is a large lobby, so it doesn't get as crowded or loud as some other coffee shops. read more

Tricky to find but worth the extra time. Barista was very knowledgeable and offered up a solid cup of coffee for whisky lovers. Great start to the day in downtown Houston. Grab a cup and head over to the Phoenician Market to cruise the shelves or grab a breakfast pita wrap. read more

2nd time here. My experience has only been during the times of Covid so I'm sure a lot was diff. Before. It is located on a hotel lobby. I came around 10am on a Friday afternoon and the pastry selection was little to nonexistent. Limited menu options but as I said with the disclaimer- I understand during covid things are diff. I ordered a caramel cappuccino but they didn't have Carmel so I opted for a vanilla cappuccino instead. The coffee certainly was better the 1st time. I'll try this spot again maybe 3rd times a charm. read more

Delicious and cute. Small little coffee shop inside a business building but it packs a big punch. Highly recommend! Service is great and the staff is super helpful and patient with us. Items are in pricier side but I think being a tad pricer than Starbucks, common grounds is infinitely better. read more

It's also a great for hanging out with friends or meeting up with someone professionally over coffee. Wifi lasts for 4 hours and for up to 2 devices. They have seasonal lattes year round on top of their usual drinks. I've never not liked any of the drinks or food I've gotten. A little bit on the pricey side. They're always super nice and welcoming and they'll bring your order to you. Whether a weekday or weekend, this place stays pretty busy. There's tons of seating however so I've always been able to sit. Parking is a bit hard. In order to get to the designated parking spaces in the lot, you need to go through the valet area in front of the restaurant next door. There is also street parking.

Located directly across the street from Discovery Green, parking can be a bit tricky. I recommend downloading the ParkHouston app and grabbing a street parking spot around the corner.
