Wow, I am so impressed with Commander Moving! I had to do a very last minute move, and had several coworkers recommend Commander. I called them on Thursday to schedule a Saturday move, and Robert made it super easy and worked with me to find a good time. He was also really responsive to quick questions. We did almost all the packing ourselves, but for those items that were a bit precarious, the team did an excellent job packing up. Commander came recommended by a couple of different folks at our condo complex in Oakland (sad to leave!). We used them to move our big furniture from there back to our home base in South Palo Alto. They were really professional on the quote, and the day of the move they were on-time, professional, and fast! My girlfriends and I recently moved from Emeryville back to San Francisco. While looking for moving companies to help facilitate our move, I came Across Commander Moving and saw they had great reviews. The booking process was very easy - you request a quote online with your estimated move size as well as your start/ end destination. I was reached out to within 24 hours to get more details regarding my move and get a proper estimate. The pricing was comparable to other companies and was very fair. During the course of packing, I learned that my building did not allow for moves on the date I originally booked. The commander team (notably Karel who handles booking) was very gracious and flexible and found us a slot to have our items moved the day after our originally scheduled date. Today, the day of the move, the moving team showed up 30 minutes earlier than anticipated and went straight to work. These guys work fast - they cleared up our apartment effortlessly and even took care of things we were thinking of taking care of ourselves. At our new apartment, the team handled all our items carefully (bringing items up stairs, parking on a hill - you name it) All in all , I was thoroughly impressed by the Commander Moving team as a whole. Commander Moving rocks! Hire them. I spoke with Mike first, and he was professional, organized and great with communication. They provided super seamless, amazing service. Moving sucks, it's hard, but with these guys we were able to get it all done. I recommend our team specifically, headed up by Adam. They carried heavy things up many stairs, in the heat, and still were nice to us :) In terms of price, I didn't really shop around, but I thought it was good value. We had 6 guys and 2 trucks. The bigger crew just made everything go way faster, so it's worth considering that when you are comparing quotes with other companies. We finished much more quickly than the quote had initially estimated. Second time moving with Commander. First time about ten years ago moved in same complex to upper floor 2 bedroom apartment. Commander finished job in a couple hours. Second move with Commander was yesterday from East Bay to SF. Took the Commander crew of three 1.25 hours to move a two bedroom apartment down to the truck and a total 3.5 hours to drive to SF and unload truck up to a second floor flat. That is a two bedroom apartment moved in 3.5 hours folks. The three movers were nothing but courteous and professional. The three man crew worked tirelessly until the job was completed. I received two additional quotes though Commander Moving was the only company to come out and actually view the items we had to move and provide an almost spot-on quote for what they figured the cost to move would be. Not only that, we were moving from a four bedroom, 2.5 bath with lots of kid toys, up a drive way and had a hot tub to move, and they handled with extreme care. I am so glad to have contacted Commander Moving, This is a local Bay Area company with local area movers. They have a physical office/storage location and showed up in a giant 'Commander Moving' branded truck. These are not 3rd party movers that show up in a rented UHaul. (Those of you who have had this experience, you know what I mean.) Moving is always stressful, but I had to move an office in a short amount of time. The Commander himself, Karel, walked the office within an hour of the appointment. He took a few notes, said 'We got this,' and proceeded to fit us in on a busy Saturday. Saturday came and of course, it had to storm. (high winds, pouring rain, tornado warning! WTF Bay Area!) Efrain Sr, Efrain Jr, Alex and Albert introduced themselves and were all smiles and good spirits even in the pouring rain. They walked the office with me one time and proceeded to box, wrap and move a large amount of files and electronics quickly, efficiently, and in my opinion, record fast time. Representative was easy to understand, direct, and precise with details on time range and flexibility of the moving men. We received a call in the morning of the move to confirm our truck rental time so the moving men could arrive shortly after. There was no sitting around! Adam & Manny quickly went into action never stopping for a break. They were kind considerate, polite helpful and always insuring the careful handling of all our items. They packed the 20 ft moving truck so diligently and meticulously-not even the 800 mile drive on the treacherous pot hole ridden Hwy 850 or 5 fwy was a match to the safety of the pack. We hired Commander Moving to move us out of our current home so it can be staged and sold, while we spend a couple of months in an AirBnB, and all of our stuff is stored at the Commander Moving warehouse. Once our house sells and we find a new place, we'll have Commander Moving bring all of our furniture, art, clothes, etc. from their warehouse to our new home. The folks at Commander Moving were pleasant and professional on the phone, as was the estimator who came to our house weeks beforehand. On moving day, they sent two trucks, a van, extra packing materials, a supervisor, and 7 guys to move us. The company owner stopped by to check on his guys and to check-in on our satisfaction mid-move. They were prompt (8:00am) and quick: they had our multi-level 3-story home of 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, LR, DR, office, washer/dryer, heavy wine fridge, standup freezer, sofas, chairs, storage areas, and LOTS of fragile art packed and on the truck by 2:00pm -- well ahead of schedule. They then left for the warehouse where they loaded our things into protective containers. All of the guys were hard workers, strong, careful, friendly, courteous, and professional. We are very happy with our experience so far and feel confident our belongings are in good care at their warehouse while we search for our next home. At $125 per hour (plus $65 fuel surcharge) for two movers and a 24' truck, the pricing rate for this moving service is about what I expected. The movers were hard-working and did a good job. I docked a star because the employees charged for 5 hours despite working 4 hours, since they arrived at our storage unit at 8am without notifying us ahead of time that they were on the way, and needed to wait for me to arrive to provide them with access to the unit. We were told by Ruth (the very nice person who answers at the phone number) that we would receive a call 20-30 minutes ahead of the start time to avoid this exact scenario. The employees also claimed a need to be paid for the time spent driving to the loading location and from the unloading location (from/to the Commander Moving truck depot), which I don't understand. The move began at 8:30am and ended at 12:30pm, but they charged for 8am to 1pm. This experience reflects a preventable communication problem that cost us an extra $125. Putting this problem aside, I was satisfied with the moving service provided and would recommend them if the loading location is somewhere you'll be able to meet the movers as soon as they say they've arrived. read more

I'm finally getting around to writing a review for one of the best moving companies I've worked with in the Bay Area. I contacted them in March for a big and complicated move out of my Dad's home of almost 50 years. Ruth was fabulous with the coordination on the phone, beginning to end. And they mover guys (whose names I've forgotten after all this time) were professional and super helpful. I had a few larger items that they weren't moving, but I needed downstairs, and they were happy to bring them down for me. We had them take most of the items to their storage facility until we decide what to do with it. When the time comes, they will move it all to the new home. My move went from a "storage unit to apartment" to "storage unit to condo to apartment". They were there every step of the way to ensure my needs were met. Carlos and his team (Doragh & Juan) of movers were phenomenal. They gave me a 20 min eta and were on time to the first stop. Going over the paperwork, Carlos was very meticulous in making sure I knew the estimated cost and why. The crew was careful and fast with my storage unit move out, which took just over an hour. For part 2 of the move, the three person team quickly and thoroughly wrapped blankets and plastic. They broke down the bed and couch and transported a fragile mirror with quite a bit of patience. By the time they got to part 3 of the move, they took a well-deserved break and proceeded to unload. They were very careful with everything and extremely considerate in asking where stuff should be placed. Commander Moving is the BEST and ONLY good thing about moving. I absolutely recommend working with them. I had such a pleasant experience with Commander Moving starting from the first call with Ruth. She brings a positive energy to every single call and works hard to make sure you are informed and satisfied. Commander sent someone out for a free estimate and then followed up again once we changed our plans and decided to use container shipping instead of a truck and storage unit. On the actual moving day, I was blown away at how efficient Commander Moving worked. The four men that showed up were friendly and hard working. They took a quick survey of the house and everything that needed to be moved. From there, they came up with a plan and got to work. I still can't believe how easily they moved some of the heavier items. I was even more impressed with how they fit everything into the shipping container.
