So many guests raved that this was the best food that they've ever had at a wedding. I have to agree! However, I expected as much since we taste-tested the food beforehand and were quite impressed. The real reason I am writing this review is because of Joe's help with coordinating tents for our wedding day. It never rains, they say. It won't rain on the day of the wedding, they say. Yet, it did. Joe and I spoke on the phone at 7 am sharp in the days leading up to the wedding day. He bought us as much time as possible before we had to make our final decision about renting a tent. I hired Command Performance to cater for my wedding in Malibu. Trevor was great, he was super knowledgeable of my venue and very responsive. My husband and I pretty much came up with our own menu, which was great because some caterers only stick to their menus. The chef totally nailed the flavors. All of my guests commented on how delicious the food was and how it was the best food they had at a wedding. And I personally loved it as well. We had our wedding at Eden Gardens, in which CP was the required caterer/rental company. We were really impressed, although had some issues: THE FOOD Do NOT skimp on their food choices because it is worth it!! We had the Eden Buffet package and then upgraded some. The number of choices was outstanding. We are STILL hearing people rave about the food at our wedding! There wasn't a single dish I didn't like, so these are just reviews of my favorites: * DEFINITELY ADD THE GRILLED JUMBO SHRIMP! At only $8 extra or so per person, this was the best decision we could have made. The shrimp are actually prawns - HUGE, fresh, and delicious! We had guests request plates of JUST the prawns and our videographers who have eaten at many weddings said that these prawns were the best shrimp they've ever had in their lives! We had the honey glazed option I think. * Chicken Roulade - Tender, juicy chicken smothered in a delicious creamy sauce and stuffed with baby asparagus. I couldn't get enough of this, even as leftovers after our wedding. *Stuffed Mushrooms (I don't remember which) - These were really juicy and delicious. My favorite of all our appetizer options. We also heard lots of compliments on their spring rolls. *Boneless BBQ Beef Short Ribs - My favorite of their beef options. It is really tender and juicy and has lots of flavor. * Old Fashioned Mac & Cheese - Mac & cheese might seem a little cheap and cliche, but you should at least give this a shot. It is the best mac & cheese I've ever had and a REALLY great option if you have kids and picky eaters as guests. We heard LOTS of compliments on this. * Coffee Bar - DON'T miss this! Really cute setup of different coffees/teas and different toppings. Also comes with cookies to dip. Almost like a sundae bar but with coffee! * We had custom appetizers based on recipes of own foods and they did a really great job with them. THE RENTALS Pretty average. For the most part, they have what you need and some fancier options if you want. THE SERVICE - DAY OF * Bartender - I don't know if she's part of CP or not, but she was great and I wished we tipped her even more now. Amongst the rush of the wedding, we had forgotten to give her instructions on our mixed drinks, so she just improvised. She ended up figuring out our recipes anyways and even made them better! She definitely fixed a Sangria disaster! * Wait Staff - They were super nice and always came to us during the wedding asking if we needed anything more. They laid out our food so beautifully and made sure we ate. We still didn't eat much, but it was really nice to have people to take care of us! They were also really nice to our guests and even joked around when people were asking for plates of prawns. * Chef(s) - They were really accommodating to diet needs of our guests. We had special gluten-free and dairy-free meals and the guests who received them felt like they tasted really delicious just like the rest! *Set Up - They were behind schedule and not on top of things. There were numerous times in which we had to track them down to set something up so we could get our decorations up and numerous times we had to direct them on what to do even though they should have known. Still, they pulled through and everything was fine. THE SERVICE - PRIOR TO THE WEDDING I made sure to give this a different category because this was the ONLY area (apart from setup) where CP lacked. In fact, I was so unhappy with their communication I would have considered taking off 2 stars instead of 1 and I also even considered giving up on our venue. There were numerous times in which my questions never got answered and I had to follow back up. Many times, I had to follow up 2-3 times just to make sure they knew (and I only followed up once a week or once every few weeks!). As our wedding drew nearer, this ended up being extremely stressful. Email proved to be the best communication, as I had never once got a response back from my voicemails, and I never once got a hold of them via phone the first time, either. Despite that fact, I felt Abby was super nice and she was really accommodating. We got along really well. I had let her know we had a low budget and she was really helpful in working with it and offered some really good advice and opinions. PRICE They charge on every single little upgrade, but I suppose that's to be expected. Still, their prices were above average compared to other rental companies I had inquired into when we were considering other venues. Food prices were fairly reasonable for their quality, and I definitely think the prawns upgrade was a REALLY good value. In the end, despite the poor communication, CP really pulled through. We got everything we wanted for our wedding and more. The night of our wedding we couldn't have asked for better food or better service. CPC catered our August 2015 wedding at Walnut Grove, with Joe Thies serving as our extraordinary catering manager. Joe's laid back demeanor was a breath of fresh air during the insanity of wedding planning, and his recommendations (from menu pairings to the unquestionable superiority of Luxardo cherries for a good old fashioned) were invaluable. From day one, Joe was very organized and accommodating (serving Persian tea, arranging a soy-free vegan meal, working with our fluctuating guest count, etc.), and I will forever appreciate his patient responses to our tedious questions about cake forks and glassware. On the day of, we were blown away not only by the incredible food, but also by the outstanding service. The waitstaff was friendly and professional, the bartenders were efficient and nailed our signature cocktails, and the very sweet, attentive Jessa met us with drinks and hors d'oeuvres at the end of the aisle. Speaking of hors d'oeuvres . . . we had the shrunken shrimp tacos, bacon-wrapped goat cheese dates, and tomato soup & grilled cheese shots, along with a fresh fruit display (at my mother-in-law's request). For dinner, we had BBQ short ribs, vintners chicken, mashed yukon gold potatoes, white cheddar jalapeño macaroni & cheese, haricots verts, farmers market salad, and carrot soufflé. We made time to try all of it, and it was all exceptional. (Everyone kept telling us it was the best wedding food ever . . . and keeps telling us, even months later.) Our work holiday party was catered by this place and I can't say I was impressed. Most of the food was lukewarm & the "mashed potato" bar had almost exclusively cold toppings. Since the potatoes weren't hot, the cold toppings just turned my bowl into a gloppy heap of "meh". And let me say, "meh" & "mashed potatoes" rarely come out of my mouth in the same sentence! The 2 things I liked were the turkey on squaw sliders & the little truffle chocolates (so dense, so rich, so cravable!). The rest of the food I tried (meatball (pork?) sliders, chicken skewers ("satay"?), mashed potato bar, mini fruit tart & mini S'mores tart) left much to be desired. Also the layout of the buffet was awkward & it slowed the line down to a crawl. Some people stood in line for easily 30 minutes to get mediocre appetizer food. I had booked this caterer for my daughter's wedding after several friends recommended them. We gave them a deposit of $1500 to hold the date since it was over labor day weekend. Sadly, the engagement got broken and yes i know we signed a contract holding the date. But i gave them 8 1/2 months notice, never had a tasting, never picked a menu and they would do nothing except keep the money. I asked if the money could at least apply to any future event, never heard back. Almost all the other vendors with deposits were very understanding and gave us our $$ back since there was so much notice given. Would give 4.5 stars if it were an option. I'm so glad my husband and I happened to go to a tasting event by Command Performance! We basically got to feast on tasty food for free. Then, we grew enamored with a wdeding site that coincidentally used Command Performance as their preferred caterer. It worked out perfectly. -Their menu has SO MANY wonderful things to choose from! It was hard. Our appetizer choices: brie and fruit stationary appetizer, angus beef sliders, prosciutto-wrapped melon balls, bacon wrapped scallops!!! :O~ -Tina Wilkins our Command Performance coordinator was usually on top of things. She even helped come up with general wedding ideas as we discussed our vision of the marriage. Generally, a funny and dependable gal. -Tina also masterminded a flavorful tasty meal for our cousin who is allergic to beef, ALL nuts (including peanuts), eggs, milk, and shellfish. I've seen other wedding caterers present her with a plain pile of steamed vegetables. Bleh. -With the dinner package we chose, we got to provid the CP bartenders with alcohol we got from Costco and BevMo, and instructed the bartentenders to pour our "signature drinks" (fuzzy navels and caipirinhas) as well as the awesome wine and beer (sam adams oktoberfest and blue moon) we snagged. We returned all our leftovers after the wedding!! -CP also rented/set the linens and table settings for us. Remember, you end up paying a bit more for packages (which is what CP offers). I hadn't heard of Command Performance Catering until my wedding planner had told me they cater at the Ronald Reagan Library events, and I had my prom there in 2008 and I remember the food being really good, which you don't expect at a place like the Ronald Reagan Library or even a high school prom. We just went to a showcase at Gerry Ranch where my wedding will be at next year in 2018, and they had buffet style for food. (I'm getting plated dinner for my wedding) But the food was amazing, and so delicious, I wish I could've made a to-go box because there was so much food leftover before the event was over. I have been in hospitality and in the restuarant and customer service industry, so good service is something I have come to really appreciate. After the ceremony, they had apps and drinks waiting for my husband and I and continued to serve us through the night and make sure we had drinks and were having a good time. I just got married last Saturday (7/26/14) and am thrilled to write an absolutely glowing review for Command, our incredible caterer. I've been working with Joe and the Command team for over a year now. We hosted 155 guests in Santa Barbara at a private estate and wanted superior food. Our requests were not easy, but Command made it seem like a piece of cake! After recently becoming gluten free I also wanted a menu with G-free options for myself and guests and they delivered! Joe and the lead chef created a nearly ALL GLUTEN FREE menu! It. Was. PHENOMENAL. We chose to serve everything family style-- and our guests loved it. Nearly every person told me it was "the BEST food they've ever had at a wedding." We also decided to forgo cake (F**K CAKE!) and do a legit chocolate fondue set up. It was just beautiful. As guests first entered, we also had a lemonade stand set up with different lemonades and it was gorgeous. Most importantly, I loved having such a solid point person in Joe. He was consistently on top of our needs, connected us to a great liquor vendor and worked seamlessly with our rentals company, A Rental Connection. Simply Incredible! You know you've picked the right caterer when the underlying theme to the comments people make at your wedding is, "the food is incredible!" From the get-go... they were just a pleasure to work with. We dealt with Joe, but the whole team/staff were a delight. We had our initial tasting with them a few months before the wedding and it was just a treat. The food is of the highest quality for the amount of production they must deal with. They also have options that will accommodate all dietary restrictions and preferences. Most importantly, they were extremely flexible. We made menu changes as late as 7 weeks before the wedding and they had no problems what-so-ever. They were more than professional and on the day of the wedding the finished product was simply immaculate. Joe was on site for the entire event and it went off without any issues. They even accommodated my (the groom's) wedding dinner to ensure that I got regular potatoes instead of the mashed potatoes everyone else got (small thing, but just huge amount of style points). We also employed their bar-tenders and they were also awesome. I can say that one of my concerns was people being over-served, but the gals behind the bar were very quick to adjust pour, etc to ensure everyone was having just the perfect amount of fun. We used Command Performance for our September wedding. It was an event for 135 people. What wonderful things can I say about them that haven't already been said? They are the real deal. Joe was a constant professional and worked so hard to make our wedding perfect. I gave him pictures of how I wanted things to look and he and his team made them come to life. The day of our wedding, Joe and his staff went out of their way to make sure my new husband and I got to try all of the food, which was great because we got to taste all of the food that our guests were raving about! The highlights of the night were the bacon wrapped scallops, zinfandel braised short ribs and a mac & cheese bar complete with 2 different types of mac & cheese, mix-ins and cheese sauce to pour on top (good suggestion Joe!) Joe even showed up early to make sure everything was set-up right. Everything looked and tasted great for our wedding. What else could a bride ask for? One reviewer had mentioned previously a slowness in communication. I noticed that a little towards the beginning as well. However, when I said something about it to Joe in passing, he gave me his personal cell number and was always reachable after that. In fact, he even did 2 walk throughs with us before the wedding. We found CP Catering via their Yelp reviews, which is always a little nerve-racking. This place had 5 stars and great reviews so we started the convo. Justin was immediate to respond, and was helpful in fitting our budget. The great customer service had us sticking around. When we got to the tasting, we were hooked. The food was excellent, Justin was lovely, and the experience was wonderful. Fast forward to our wedding and our guests loved the food! The ahi taco apps, grilled cheese dippers, and more were so good. My favorite was the Parmesan risotto cakes, but everyone who got steak or salmon loved their meals, too. They were highly accommodating, reasonably priced, and definitely a great catering company for our 250 person wedding! read more

Command performance were the preferred caterers for our wedding venue at Hartley Botanica. Their food is great and overall, I found their service to be very good although we had some issues happen on the day: Trevor was our initial contact until about 6 months prior to the wedding when Justin took over his clients. Both were fantastic and the transition was fairly smooth. We found out a week before our wedding however that Justin would be away on our wedding day and would be leaving us with Breeanna on the day (I believe she is a sub as she's not on their actual list of event co-ordinators). It's always a little stressful for a couple to find out that months of planning have been left to a new person so we did have a catch up call with Breeanna. Overall the day went pretty smoothly. There were however two frustrations from the day which could have been prevented. 1) We had an external cake baker for our desserts. This is standard at our venue and I had been advised by the venue and command performance that leftover cake is always stored in the fridge for the bride/groom to pick up next day. When our wedding finished, we had a lot of leftover dessert but unfortunately NONE of it was saved for us as previously advised. Apparently it was all thrown out?! Having seen the amount when our wedding finished, I would guess they probably threw out $200-300 worth of dessert which is pretty unacceptable and was my biggest annoyance from the night. 2) As part of our contract, we had upgraded tablewear which included gold rimmed plates. We specified in writing that this was to be laid out on the tables with upgraded gold cutlery and ivory napkins. We had a buffet so guests were to then take their plates to the buffet area (this is fairly common at our venue and provides the photography an opportunity to take pretty pictures of the table settings). The plates however were never laid out at the tables but placed at the buffet by Breeanna thus never getting photographed as part of the table pictures. Although it has no impact on the smooth running of the day, it's a bit frustrating when you have specified what you want in writing to one person detailing a specific vision in your mind and then the next person omits it completely. Apart from the above, we were generally pretty happy with how things turned out. Their food and service was great. If you get someone else take over last minute however, make sure you reiterate every last detail (no matter how painfully time consuming it is). read more

Our wedding was this past weekend and I am currently sitting with my new husband eating our leftovers. Their service was outstanding, the food was incredible and the whole event went off perfectly thanks to Command Performance. We worked with Tina and Breeanna, they were fantastic from the get go. I received endless compliments on how great the food was (not like typical wedding food), and people enjoyed our bar setup. Danny & Joe helped us out with our wedding. Danny also referred our venue, photographer, DJ & wedding coordinator. First off the food was amazing, we have received nothing but complements from all our guest. The braised short ribs were outstanding & the smoked Gouda sliders were fantastic. We were given the choice of 4 passed apps, two main courses & 4 sides/salads. They provide you with so many options to choose from, customizing the food for your event is easy. I wanted to just list out a few things below that felt extra helpful / wonderful and helped the night run so smoothly and beautifully! It really felt like everyone went the extra mile from the minute we started working together. - thank you for bringing our food out directly to us, the bride and groom! We actually ate at our own wedding! -thank you for the special meal prepared for the father of the groom who has allergies! He said it was perfect. -the kiddos meals looked awesome!! -love love loved the pansies in the champs! Thank you for making that happen! -the plethora of drinks and food brought to the bridal suite was so awesome! Thank you for that! -omg. The grilled cheese and tomato soup shots!!! What?!!! My favorite thing ever. -I don't eat red meat, but word on the street is the short rib was the best anyone had ever had. -so much food!! They catered the CPM breakfast for homeowners' associations today. I only enjoyed the fruit. The rest was hardly what I would call breakfast. It was unsubstantial snd not good. The quiches were extremely dry and not tasty. They provided flimsy paper cups for the hot drinks and I had to use napkins to hold mine. Overall, I was not impressed and I would hope CPM would not use them again. read more

If you are reading this and deciding if you want to use Command for your next event, DO IT. Pablo, you are absolutely amazing. The best wedding vendor we had. I was blown away by the hard work him and his staff did for my wedding. Each time we met, he gave us ideas, suggestions, and helped us find ways to save money. He was so patient with all of our questions and not once seemed irritated. I wish I could do more than a yelp review to express my gratitude. I have a couple of friends getting married and we are recommending him to EVERYONE. Every guest went out of their way to let us know how great the food was. We used Command Performance for our wedding at Malibu Family Wines and were blown away. Trevor was our point of contact and he was was exceptional from first contact to the end of the wedding. We would have been totally happy with CP even if the food was average "wedding food," but we were so thrilled to hear how much everyone loved the food. People went out of their way to comment on how much they loved their meals and appreciated the presentation of the meals. On the day of, we didn't even have to deal with anything, Trevor took care of it all and it all turned out perfect. We watched people hard at work from the window and were so happy with everything and loved seeing how smoothly the team worked together. One girl spent hours putting our menus together with the exact specifications using the twine we had given Trevor. All of the servers and bartenders were top notch, ensuring our guests had a great time. They were all so friendly and on top of service the whole night. Leading up to the wedding we asked Trevor so many questions about details and he would get back to us immediately and put us at ease about everything. They didn't nickel and dime us and stuck with the original set price. We have already recommended them to friends and will continue to do so.
