My wife and I attended a friend's birthday party where Chef Ray handled the catering, and the food was truly outstanding. Having spent 22 years in the food service industry myself, I'm not easily impressed--but the presentation, flavors, and overall execution were exceptional. Every item was fantastic. The bruschetta with goat cream cheese was fresh and perfectly balanced. The seared ahi tuna bites were beautifully prepared, and the shrimp spring rolls with ginger peanut sauce were bursting with flavor. Even the flatbread pizza with Caesar salad was spot-on. One great dish after another--we were honestly stuffed by the end of the night. What stood out most was the attention to detail and restaurant-quality presentation, something you rarely see at private catered events. Chef Ray clearly takes pride in his craft, and it shows in every bite. Silver Spoons made everything happen, put the numerous gorgeous bouquets that people brought away in the perfect vases, which Scott or his team somehow found on their own without bothering me. They made everything look delicious despite the unbelievable heat, and then, on top of everything else - everything WAS delicious and delightful. The food was fantastic. And Scott Tessler and his team all talked to our guests in such a nice way. It was fun to have them there. We have used Silver Spoons intermittently over the years - for our daughter's wedding in Malibu in 2015, and now again, to introduce her baby to our friends and family. I'm beginning to think we should do this more often - the results from Scott and Silver Spoons are outstanding. After our event was over, exhausted, we came back to our kitchen, and discovered scads of perfectly wrapped leftovers - Steve and I simultaneously went hunting for that incredible mustard - oh, no, did they leave us some? Yes! You left us a significant amount, nicely wrapped up. And you cleaned up the kitchen beautifully! Even mopped! Everything was left in perfect order. I've been enjoying all the leftovers now for a few days. We have already given Silver Spoons' contact information to one guest at the party, who was very impressed with its work. Many of our guests were already familiar with Silver Spoons from their experiences at University Synagogue (now part of Wilshire Boulevard Temple). The food, the presentation, interaction with guests, following of dietary/allergy restrictions - all perfect. We had magnificent vegetables for the vegans, gluten-free dishes of all kinds that were superb, regular dishes that were wonderful - the food was great. And the service is exceptional. Our baby grandson had a grand debut in the Millers' back yard, and Silver Spoons Catering was a big part of that. Silver Spoons did a wonderful job, and we thank them for it.

While the food and service were very good, I was very put off that that due to this caterer being…read morethe only option we had at Maravilla, Command Performance refuses to give couples a complimentary trial tasting of dishes (to make selections for their event). I have hosted many events at clubs and venues-and a tasting is always included-in fact they WANT you to do tastings so you chose exactly what you want for your event. However-when they are the only option at a venue, Command Performance will not offer you that trial/complimentary tasting-in fact they charge $300 for the couple and $150 per person added to that. BUT-if they are one of several caterers offered at a venue-THEN they will offer free tastings to those couples. We know this, as our friends son was married at the Gerry, and Command Performance gave them a lovely complimentary tasting. And because we did not want to risk upsetting the caterer before my daughter's wedding, I did not voice how outraged I was/am by this, and waited until after the wedding. When we have another event, Command Performance will not be a vendor we will consider.

We went to a school family camp weekend at El Capitan Canyon this month and got a bountiful…read moreHawaiian luau-themed dinner through DJ's California Catering. My friend Kelly M. did the hard work of booking, but I was part of the host crew and thought this dinner was quite successful. We ordered a buffet for 30 adults and 35 children, which ended up feeding 41 adults and 39 children, with leftovers to spare. The total cost, including tip, was a little over $2,900. Not cheap or anything, but definitely worth it for the food and service. DJ's came and set everything up, and there was a guy on site to handle everything for a period of like five hours. I didn't get his name, but he was nice, even helping me open a can I needed desperately to open, without the use of a can opener. The service came with sugarcane plates, forks, knives, and paper napkins, and a luau-themed table covering to put under the buffet. All things we didn't have to think about. We grilled the other night of camp and this was more cost effective, but proportionately more laborious. The food was good and covered a lot of bases, so everyone had something to eat. There were dinner rolls with one thousand pats of butter, many of which I now have in my fridge, and a giant catering tray of three cheese macaroni and cheese. My children were covered with these two offerings, as were, I suspect, many others. We got two meat entrées, which were both very satisfying: traditional Hawaiian kalua pork and grilled teriyaki chicken breast with grilled Maui pineapple. An island garden salad made for a nice side, with mandarin oranges, toasted almonds, crispy wonton strips, and ginger soy vinaigrette. Kind of like Chinese chicken salad without the chicken, and therefore well matched to the chicken teriyaki. There was steamed jasmine rice too, and a tropical fruit salad. Everyone had a great time at the family luau, even if most of the kids were too excited to sit down and eat proper dinner. DJ's California Catering took care of everything (well, except childcare) so we parents could just sit back and enjoy.
