Comet cafe is one of favorite spots to grab brunch in the city. They have a great Bloody Mary and lots of fun coffee drinks. The vibe is old school diner with delicious food and drink! It can be busy, but you can wait outside or stop at koppa's across the street while you wait. I love the Stendler, and they always write a cute note on it!

First time here and won't be my last! Our server was super friendly and just love the whole vibe of this place! Really good value and food was delicious. Had the breakfast burrito and added bacon and had more than enough for a second meal. Can't wait to come back and try some of the coffee drinks.

I was really excited about this place, but I was pretty disappointed by the food. I got their recommended meatloaf hash, it was chunks of salty meatloaf mixed into hash brown. I added a homemade biscuit and their homemade jam, it was so good and flaky, the only thing I liked. The pork belly grits was bland, but the pork belly was well cooked though. Also, regarding service. I think if you sit outside they don't come to check on you often, so we wouldn't have water or get to ask for things. It makes sense since it's harder to see, but if you're someone who likes to be checked in on, then you should sit inside.

As I mentioned in a previous review, I was gifted this very cool coupon book with deals at women-owned businesses. Much to my delight, Comet Cafe, is featured in that book! We dropped by on a wintry Sunday evening. The sort of evening that practically begs for comfort food. Knowing they have ample portions, we didn't opt for a starter this time. We were also headed to cocktails after, so we didn't order those either. For my main, I got the cheesy tomato sandwich with fries. My dining companion got their vegan salisbury steak and an order of their Harissa roasted carrots (which I believe was a limited special). My sandwich was just the kind of ooey gooey, cheesy delight I was hoping for. The fries are on the thin side and I ordered some of their spicy aioli to go along, which gave them just the oomph they needed. My dining companion was kind enough to offer a bite of his carrots (so flavorful with a nice kick of spice) and his vegan salisbury steak (served over a bed of mashed potatoes and smothered with gravy, it was the coziest comfort food ever). Our server was absolutely lovely in every single way. Get to it!

I looked up Guy Fieri's diners, drive-ins, and dives, and found comet Café. I came into the establishment for the classic meatloaf.. It was served on a rye bun. pretty good a little burnt, but I can see the reason why it was an award-winning dish and got the attention of Guy Fieri. The customer service was fantastic. It was empty as I was leaving regulars were dropping in so I can see this place being the locals favorite the ambience was a feeling of Home!

Stopped here as part of the Triple D tour we took. We got the meatloaf and the thanksgiving dinner balls. All was amazing. We got here late and the staff were super great about making our food so late. Got pie to go and it was delicious! This stop did not disappoint!

I've been coming here since the days where it was just a coffee shop you could smoke inside of with flyers all over the walls. It's a must when I'm in town! While I'm a sucker for the compact turkey dinner when in season, or the Foghorn Leghorn Sammy, I ordered the club since that's a hard one to find made well in New Orleans these days. My buddy and I started with classic bloodies garnished with curds and bacon, and the beer chaser of 3 Sheep's Pilsner was honestly the best Pilsner I've had-clean, crisp and heavenly. I looked for it elsewhere all weekend but my friend says it may have been brewed special for comet. The pie case was filled with all the classics, including a strawberry rhubarb that I was too full to try. One of my favorite spots in Milwaukee!

Flew into Milwaukee and did a mobile search on the interstate for comfort food. This place popped up as a place on Triple D. Comet Cafe sits on a corner in an older neighborhood. Looks well attended by locals and visitors as well but it was not crowded when we visited mid afternoon. We ordered a cup of tomato soup with crackers and a shareable plate of poutine. Both were tasty but nothing over the top. The staff were friendly and the wait for the food was reasonable. The homemade pies were tempting but we passed.

I haven't been in since before the pandemic but this used to be my favorite spot in Milwaukee. I need to come back again soon. This duck confit poutine was fabulous!

    Turkey Compact Dinner

Warm smiles upon entering the cafe. It was cold and raining so I naturally requested a French vanilla cafe with whipped cream as my starter beverage. Our waitress was attentive and the neighboring waiter checked in a few times on our group. Ordered the "Compact Turkey Dinner". It's Thanksgiving dinner wrapped in a delicious ball. There's turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes in a beer-battered ball form topped w/ gravy. No world famous pie for the evening ...full from our meal but the next visit I'm game.

This was new restaurant of the week and a long time bookmark. I have been wanting to get here since DDD had an episode showing the restaurant so yes it's been a long time and they closed down for C19 so all hope was gone forever of getting over. A miracle happened and a well known Milwaukee restaurant group reopened it and the DDD featured items were still on the menu. The place is crushed on the weekends with no parking on my previous attempts but today being a week day I had parking right across the street and a table was open. The guy who greeted me did an excellent job at being the face of the business as well as my server. The place is funky old looking with an old school lunch counter, back bar with booths, I love this place. I remember Guy focusing on bacon, the turkey ball and the meatloaf if I remember correctly from years ago so I asked my server with out opening the menu for 2 guesses as to why I made the trip and BANG he nailed the meatloaf and second was BANG the turkey ball which was a hard choice but the amazing meatloaf won today. I started with an adult cocktail which was a whiskey old fashioned sour which was a little different because the cherry and orange were on the bottom and muddled first as opposed to on top intact and decent. My plate hit the table and looked amazing with a great presentation, the meat loaf tower. It's a bed of good quality rye bread with caraway seeds, ketchup topped meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, bacon, stewed/soft red onion, tomato slice topped with fresh chives OMG. The meatloaf with layers of flavors was so good and very hearty. The rye bread was the bakery artisan quality kind, thank you. The meatloaf was flavorful. The mashed potatoes were silky smooth. The bacon was crispy and everything else was good but the tomato was very flavorful unlike most from the store. Overall this place is doing meatloaf like a 5 star restaurant and unlike any other meatloaf I have had with friendly staff. I heard that if you bring your dog over they give the dog a strip of bacon so this guy brought his cat over in a carriage, equality for all kind of thing and the cat got a bacon strip and could care less because it had 0 interest in it but it's a fun story.

With their rotating menu items and weekly specials, I am definitely coming back after having such a flavorful and fun meal. Waited about an hour on a busy Saturday since one of their locations was closed, but the food was well worth it! I had gotten Wolfie's Patty Melt and it was filling and a great start to our morning. The bread was nice and crisp from the buttered griddle and held everything together perfectly. Inside the crunchy sandwich were 2 seasoned patties and enough gooey cheese to make it rich, but not heavy. To contrast the fatty flavor, there was a slightly tart bacon jam and onions that were truly caramelized. Overall really tasty sandwich with no notes! In the description it says there is a sauce, but I could only taste the onions and jam, so I'm not too sure what it added. The side of fries was ok, but I think some crispy thinner ones would have been better with the sandwich. For my drink, I got a hot Ube Chai. The chai was strong and had a spicy kick to each sip. Already a subtle flavor, the ube was not very strong with the chai mixed in, but still added fun color. The design on top was also very cute and added another dink of sweetness. My girlfriend got the Spamelette for her main and it was pretty pretty and delish. Not too often that you see Spam, but when you see it, trust it earned its spot on a menu! The big chunks of Spam and accouterments gave each bite a pleasant feel and one full of flavor. I was skeptic of the mushrooms at first, but they were seasoned well and added another kind of texture to the meal. I think my favorite toppings were the drizzle of kewpie and the green onions... not sure if it counts as a topping, but the tamari glaze of the spam made it delish. Taste aside, it was also a pretty meal! Pook got a Hot Chocolate for her drink. Nice simple drink for the cold weather. We would have liked to see some more chocolatey flavor, but still a good milky drink for the meal. This drink also had a fun design and nice cream top, yum yum yum. This was such a tasty meal and they have lots of other options that I was debating on getting - I guess we gotta come back! It was a really cold day, but the cozy atmosphere and hot drinks with our food made it a great experience. We had originally planned on going to the Downtown location, but it was closed because of heating problems. I wish there was a bit more uniformity between their menus, especially since the Brewers Hill menu has different items and is smaller, so it feels like there is quite the difference between locations. Going off of that point, I am excited to try their dinner menu when it releases and see how it compares to when we ate Downtown! I am not sure how the places differ, but I felt the food here to be more flavorful than the other location. In addition to the dining area, they had a small shop and coffee area in the back while you waited for your table. It was fun and made time pass faster, but I feel as though that area is also perfect for dining. Maybe there are specific reasons why it isn't, but just a thought. Hope to come back soon!

I ended up calling in an order to go, substituting wheat bread for the rye, and also added a piece of lemon ginger coffee cake. The lemon ginger coffee cake tasted fine, but man was it dry. Like Sahara Desert dry. Maybe this was an anomaly and their other baked goods are better, but I'd be hesitant to try them based on this coffee cake. Even though the website says the side is potato pancakes with applesauce, my fish fry came with fries. They ended up being the best part of the meal, which I certainly wasn't expecting. Still, I was disappointed cause I prefer potato pancakes and was given their inclusion as an expectation. The wheat bread itself was ok, but the butter was oddly unsalted. The fish, of which there was three pieces, was battered with a hint of beer, but like the butter for the bread there was no salt to speak of in the batter. As much as I didn't enjoy the unsalted butter for the bread, not having salt in the batter for the fish managed to be more unpleasant. Maybe Blue's Egg should just stick with serving breakfast items instead of adding something temporary that they clearly aren't pros at.

I surprisingly don't have many options in my "MKE - Fish Fry" collection that are near downtown, but Swinging Door Exchange was one of them. I was pressed for time, so I placed a to go order rather than dining in. I got the combo fish fry (two pieces of cod, two pieces of perch, and three fried shrimp) with potato pancakes. I was also very easily talked into the half rack rib appetizer. The ribs were good, even though I prefer sauce that's more sweet and smokey. Their sauce was on the tangy side with a tease of spice that really only became noticeable when the majority of the half rack was gone. If I were in the mood for ribs as my main meal, I'd consider getting theirs as an entree. The two potato pancakes weren't homemade; instead, they were premade hash brown patties that some other restaurants also serve with their fish frys. These were perfectly acceptable in lieu of homemade pancakes. The cod tasted great, but the breading didn't hold up very well. Either the fish itself was too wet or the two block walk back to my car allowed for condensation to wreck it or possibly both. The perch was not yellow lake perch but probably something like pike perch. Even though both kinds of fish and the shrimp were all good sized portions, $29 feels like a lot. I wouldn't say no to it, though, if I were dining in next time and avoid the extra cost of their takeout fee. Shout-out to the bartenders working that night. The bar area was absolutely packed, but both of the ones I talked to about placing my order were friendly and helpful even with being super busy.
