I was really excited about this place, but I was pretty disappointed by the food. I got their recommended meatloaf hash, it was chunks of salty meatloaf mixed into hash brown. I added a homemade biscuit and their homemade jam, it was so good and flaky, the only thing I liked. The pork belly grits was bland, but the pork belly was well cooked though. Also, regarding service. I think if you sit outside they don't come to check on you often, so we wouldn't have water or get to ask for things. It makes sense since it's harder to see, but if you're someone who likes to be checked in on, then you should sit inside.

Food, service and vibes were really good! Got the spinach and artichoke dip, which was probably the best we've ever had hands down. To eat we got Vegan Salisbury Steak, which was very yummy but just needed some salt. Meat eaters got the meatloaf which was yummy and a good portion and the chicken sandwhich which was also good and way to big to fit in your mouth.

A Milwaukee classic! I started with the naughty badger - a hot coffee drink with spiced rum - I wish it came in a mug instead of a pint glass so it would have stayed hotter longer. I also got the leghorn sandwich and a side salad which were both great! My husband got the classic meatloaf plate which was EXCELLENT - if you get one thing, I'd say get this! We got the poutine as an app which didn't feel like a ton of food for 4 people.

Comet cafe is one of favorite spots to grab brunch in the city. They have a great Bloody Mary and lots of fun coffee drinks. The vibe is old school diner with delicious food and drink! It can be busy, but you can wait outside or stop at koppa's across the street while you wait. I love the Stendler, and they always write a cute note on it!

First time here and won't be my last! Our server was super friendly and just love the whole vibe of this place! Really good value and food was delicious. Had the breakfast burrito and added bacon and had more than enough for a second meal. Can't wait to come back and try some of the coffee drinks.

As I mentioned in a previous review, I was gifted this very cool coupon book with deals at women-owned businesses. Much to my delight, Comet Cafe, is featured in that book! We dropped by on a wintry Sunday evening. The sort of evening that practically begs for comfort food. Knowing they have ample portions, we didn't opt for a starter this time. We were also headed to cocktails after, so we didn't order those either. For my main, I got the cheesy tomato sandwich with fries. My dining companion got their vegan salisbury steak and an order of their Harissa roasted carrots (which I believe was a limited special). My sandwich was just the kind of ooey gooey, cheesy delight I was hoping for. The fries are on the thin side and I ordered some of their spicy aioli to go along, which gave them just the oomph they needed. My dining companion was kind enough to offer a bite of his carrots (so flavorful with a nice kick of spice) and his vegan salisbury steak (served over a bed of mashed potatoes and smothered with gravy, it was the coziest comfort food ever). Our server was absolutely lovely in every single way. Get to it!

I looked up Guy Fieri's diners, drive-ins, and dives, and found comet Café. I came into the establishment for the classic meatloaf.. It was served on a rye bun. pretty good a little burnt, but I can see the reason why it was an award-winning dish and got the attention of Guy Fieri. The customer service was fantastic. It was empty as I was leaving regulars were dropping in so I can see this place being the locals favorite the ambience was a feeling of Home!

Stopped here as part of the Triple D tour we took. We got the meatloaf and the thanksgiving dinner balls. All was amazing. We got here late and the staff were super great about making our food so late. Got pie to go and it was delicious! This stop did not disappoint!

Classic Club

I've been coming here since the days where it was just a coffee shop you could smoke inside of with flyers all over the walls. It's a must when I'm in town! While I'm a sucker for the compact turkey dinner when in season, or the Foghorn Leghorn Sammy, I ordered the club since that's a hard one to find made well in New Orleans these days. My buddy and I started with classic bloodies garnished with curds and bacon, and the beer chaser of 3 Sheep's Pilsner was honestly the best Pilsner I've had-clean, crisp and heavenly. I looked for it elsewhere all weekend but my friend says it may have been brewed special for comet. The pie case was filled with all the classics, including a strawberry rhubarb that I was too full to try. One of my favorite spots in Milwaukee!

Flew into Milwaukee and did a mobile search on the interstate for comfort food. This place popped up as a place on Triple D. Comet Cafe sits on a corner in an older neighborhood. Looks well attended by locals and visitors as well but it was not crowded when we visited mid afternoon. We ordered a cup of tomato soup with crackers and a shareable plate of poutine. Both were tasty but nothing over the top. The staff were friendly and the wait for the food was reasonable. The homemade pies were tempting but we passed.

This was new restaurant of the week and a long time bookmark. I have been wanting to get here since DDD had an episode showing the restaurant so yes it's been a long time and they closed down for C19 so all hope was gone forever of getting over. A miracle happened and a well known Milwaukee restaurant group reopened it and the DDD featured items were still on the menu. The place is crushed on the weekends with no parking on my previous attempts but today being a week day I had parking right across the street and a table was open. The guy who greeted me did an excellent job at being the face of the business as well as my server. The place is funky old looking with an old school lunch counter, back bar with booths, I love this place. I remember Guy focusing on bacon, the turkey ball and the meatloaf if I remember correctly from years ago so I asked my server with out opening the menu for 2 guesses as to why I made the trip and BANG he nailed the meatloaf and second was BANG the turkey ball which was a hard choice but the amazing meatloaf won today. I started with an adult cocktail which was a whiskey old fashioned sour which was a little different because the cherry and orange were on the bottom and muddled first as opposed to on top intact and decent. My plate hit the table and looked amazing with a great presentation, the meat loaf tower. It's a bed of good quality rye bread with caraway seeds, ketchup topped meatloaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, bacon, stewed/soft red onion, tomato slice topped with fresh chives OMG. The meatloaf with layers of flavors was so good and very hearty. The rye bread was the bakery artisan quality kind, thank you. The meatloaf was flavorful. The mashed potatoes were silky smooth. The bacon was crispy and everything else was good but the tomato was very flavorful unlike most from the store. Overall this place is doing meatloaf like a 5 star restaurant and unlike any other meatloaf I have had with friendly staff. I heard that if you bring your dog over they give the dog a strip of bacon so this guy brought his cat over in a carriage, equality for all kind of thing and the cat got a bacon strip and could care less because it had 0 interest in it but it's a fun story.

Comet Cafe has such chill vibes and is such a great place to eat at. Food: the food is so delicious and filling. It's hearty and full of cheese and yummyness. I love their seasonal specials. It's very Wisconsin-esq and lots of traditional dishes like meat loaf and yummy Mac n Cheese. Drinks: My guests loved the drinks, especially the Grinch- a seasonal yummy matcha. They have Adonyne coffee which is my favorite type of coffee! My favorite is the Milky Way which has caramel coffee and chocolate! Service was fantastic and friendly. The booths are comfy and Comet is so cozy. Love this place! I do recommend people leave time to find parking. It's pretty much all street parking and not as easy to find.

I haven't been in since before the pandemic but this used to be my favorite spot in Milwaukee. I need to come back again soon. This duck confit poutine was fabulous!

Went in on a Thursday mid morning and was advised there would be a 45 minute wait (somewhat expected from other reviews). That said, it seemed like the wait was much less. Two in our party ordered the Big Wolf breakfast. I had mine with eggs over easy, sausage patties (came with 3 I believe), tavern potatoes and a single Johnny cake. Everything was delicious. The sausage was juicy and flavorful. The potatoes were like grilled whole potatoes that were then smashed down a bit. They were delicious. The Johnny cake was huge (size of a full sized dinner plate). Another in our party had the chicken biscuit which he said was very good, and that the chicken was very juicy (thigh), that also came with tavern potatoes. The last in our party ordered the Johnny cakes which came with 3 of the huge (think Uncle Buck sized) cornmeal pancakes. (2 togo boxes of them ended up coming with us), and a side of eggs. Everything was delicious and servings were very generous. Street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. Service was very attentive. Brunch It Up (possibly in the middle of rebranding to just "Brunch.") is a classic breakfast spot in downtown Milwaukee...we were there on a Sunday morning...high brunch time, and were seated quickly upstairs. The place had an overall run-down vibe to it...scuffed paint on the walls and a general feeling of not quite matching the quality of the upscale brunch spot implied by their modern logo. Menus...I normally don't comment on the menu itself but our table featured no less than 4 different menus...the regular menu, a drink menu, a specials menu and a mimosas menu...choices are wonderful, but the immediate reaction is this is a whole mess of menus on the table, and I don't know what to look at first. It felt haphazard. Let's move on to the coffee...Coffee is an essential part of the brunch experience. Even at a diner, you want it to be strong...the mug it came in was nice, but it was weak coffee. I need coffee to kick my butt, and if you're serving what's close to "browned water" at a breakfast place, you're missing the mark. How about the food? I can't fault them for the generosity of the portions, but will say individual dishes were way too much for my wife and I...we wish smaller portions were available, so so much didn't go to waste. My wife had the Egg and Waffle sandwich with waffle fries. It was fine. I had the Harvest Hash made with egg whites...the eggs were a little overcooked. (Egg whites require a thoughtful touch when cooking them so they are finished white and not browning all over.) There are plenty of fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, and peppers in there (I guess that's the extent of the harvest in Milwaukee) The hashbrowns it all sat on were undercooked. We were excited about the croissant beignets...Available were the regular ones with chocolate or strawberry dipping sauce, and a special with a fruit dipping sauce. They couldn't mix and match sauces, so we got the special. They were okay but a bit over-fried, losing the croissant texture altogether ...I mean, there's nothing wrong with deep-fried dough with sweet things to dip them in, but we do wish they hadn't fried the croissant out of them to give us the unique experience implied by the name. The menu has plenty to choose from...every breakfast savory or sweet thing you could imagine...and on the nicely designed, modern-looking menu at looks like it could be amazing...but everything we got, plus the experience of sitting in a place that felt a little rundown, left us overall disappointed.

My partner wanted to try it out so I went with him but warned him that I wasn't a huge fan. But you know what? Sometimes things change or maybe my dish 3 years ago wasn't for me. Let's try it again! Scene: Late Sunday morning, plenty of people in the hotel lobby area and the cafe dining rooms looked very busy. We spot a table for two that needed to be cleaned off so the host cleaned it quick and we were seated right away. We are the type who look at a menu before going so we knew we wanted the classic breakfast. After staring at the menu the tuna melt caught my eye but they can be hit or miss. I took a gamble and ordered that and the hashbrowns as the side. Note, I requested them to be extra crispy and the server wrote it down and repeated it before putting in the order. My partner asked for the same crispy on his browns and his eggs to be over medium. Our food came out in a short time which was nice considering how busy they were. First impression of my dish: the tuna melt looked soupy or runny and the browns were not extra crispy. In fact, I don't even think they were cooked long enough to be normal. The tuna melt was just okay, not something I would get again. The meal was edible but not great. My partner didn't like his either, his eggs were over easy (not over medium), browns barely cooked and the bacon had so much fat on it he didn't eat all of it. We weren't impressed and I don't think we would return here. It's a neat building and hotel but the food just isn't that great. Our server was nice, albeit a little all over the place. The sugar packet holder was almost empty and had to be grabbed from another table and the pepper shaker was dirty with maybe ketchup gunked on top. I think the cooks need to pay more attention to what they're doing, especially with something as easy as how to cook an egg or make hashbrowns which people say are the best. Guess I've been unlucky the two times I've tried them.
