I've visited this eatery a couple times now and my experience has been overall mixed. 3.5-stars is right on the money for me--my first visit I grabbed the Com Chirn Bo Luc Lac (shaking beef with onions and fried rice) and some Pho--I know, I know. It sounds like a stupid idea considering there's a legit "Pho" restaurant literally right next door... and I'm man enough to admit that it WAS infact a terrible idea because it didn't even come close to my imaginative scenario of "Dude, you wouldn't believe what I unexpectedly found," kind-of-situations. Like, I've found some of the BEST udon and tempura from a sushi bar in a Japanese 5 story mall--but back to the review! We arrived and the place was packed. The waiter offered a spot in their extension where there were electronic slot machines and an interesting poster that said "NO SMOKING," it's interesting and ironic because someone was DEFINITELY smoking in there. We opted to return to front until a table cleared. The appetizer carrot soup they hand out is actually pretty fantastic and flavorful. As someone that often makes Vietnamese soups, this is a rather perplexing feat. The broth is pretty darn clear meaning they've definitely put some time into making this. Most of my flavor often comes from using chicken bullion powder which creates a rather defining cloudiness--but close your eyes and no one would be the wiser. Both wife and I love it, and I get super inspired to make something similar once ingesting. $4 cafe dual da (viet coffee)? Yes, pleeeaaase. Tastes like a classical mix of Trung Nguyen and Du Monde that is well balanced with some condensed milk. The color looked slightly dark at first but with the ice melted, it's balanced out quite nicely. They hit a sweet spot for me between the coffee and milk (not too sweet, not too bitter)--Goldilocks is happy. Plate #8, their marinated pork chop, eggs, egg cake, and lap xeung sausage with pickled veg was... not bad! I've definitely had juicier chops from other places. You can find some of the best vietnamese pork chops at a pho restaurant in Alvin. So considering mixed opinions on their food and other negatives, they get a respectable 3/5. If the mood hits, I'll definitely come by for some coffee if I'm in the area. read more

First off, I think they renamed the place to "Com #1" now, which is what the name of the restaurant on the outside also says. I came here with my mom because she had heard that the com tam place was good. They have a very limited menu here, but I feel like it makes it less overwhelming to decide what from the menu here to try. It's a very small restaurant, but there is a decent amount of seating. Service is also very fast. We got our orders probably within 15 minutes of ordering. I got the #8, which includes a lot of extra items with the com tam. My mom just got the #6. To be honest, the #8 is a lot of food, so I would probably go for the #7 next time. The com tam here is very good and flavorful. I highly recommend! read more

This hole in the wall restaurant has the best rice plate in all of Houston. Better than any restaurant in Chinatown. The soup that comes with the rice plate is also delicious. Like any Vietnamese restaurant, don't expect high quality service lol. Get the #8 and it will change your life. read more

The small bowl of soup has flavor, but they bring it out first so it gets cold by the time the rice plate comes out. It just goes to show that you as an individual should always formulate your own opinions about an eating establishment that you are interested in. Normally a rating of 3 stars would have deterred me away from even a thought about eating at a place where the rating is that low. I was getting my vehicle fixed and had to go to two different places that began at 7 am this morning, that being the case, when I made it to my 2nd destination, it was 11:30 and I was hungry. Since I had to walk, I knew there was a Dennys across the street so off I went, but the closer I got, I started noticing that there were several Vietnamese places behind the Dennys in a parking lot. I randomly picked one of the restaurants and it was named Bellaire Cafe 2. I went in and there was a slight language barrier but not anything major. Once I had placed my order, I sat down to look up the place and that is when I saw the 3 star rating. It made me nervous but at this point I was in it to win it. I ordered a beef cubes and veggies dish that came with rice and I also ordered a tea. The only dish that I have ever had that was Vietnamese was Pho and I have eaten tons of it over the last 10 or so years. The name is actually Com Chien Bo Luc Lac and it was truly delicious! It was savory, fresh and flavorful and the rice was cooked to perfection. (Fried rice) I am really glad that I had the off chance of going there and to experience more Vietnamese cuisine than just Pho. I only order togo here during lunch break at work. The store is a little sketchy. Service is bad. I would never wanna sit down dine in here. It can get really busy during lunch. Sometimes I gotta wait 45mins for my lunch. Anyways, rice plates here is good. Prices are very reasonable. I love the pork rice plate especially the homemade chilli!! Super spicy yet super authentic. Shaken beef plate is another hit. Love the veggies and beef sauce they used to sautée the beef. However, they tend to put much more onions and bell peppers than the plate usually need. If you don't want a big meal, order spring rolls! Their sauce is very different in a good way. It's not peanut sauce like other restaurants usually do. But it's has a very unique taste. read more

We enjoy the Com Tam here because the portions are large and filling, and the pork is tender and flavorful. However, they are usually understaffed so service can be slow during peak lunch hours when they have take out orders to fill as well. But we come here regularly when we're craving good rice plates for cheap. read more

Oh boy, I guess I'll start at the beginning. My boyfriend and I were in the area looking for a place to sit down and eat. We had never been here before and we thought: "Hey, why not! It'd be nice to find a good place to eat over here and then get some bubble tea for dessert!" (We're always going to Ibubble in the area, which is AMAZING!) Anyways, we pulled into the parking lot at a spot in the front row, and were about to get out of the car-when all the sudden some guy pulls up in a car behind us and starts frantically gesturing at us. It looked like he wanted us to move? I don't know why, there were several spots open in the front row close by us, and there was nothing whatsoever that marked the spot as reserved or handicapped (though we do have a handicap sticker). But we aren't ones for confrontation. My boyfriend shrugged and parked in another spot, and the man who was behind us proceeded to pull into our first parking spot. Unnecessary and rude, but I mean, okay, I guess he was entitled to that spot. Weird. My boyfriend and I were racking our brains as to why he wanted us to move, and I had a big hunch that he was related to the owners/worked in the restaurant we were about to enter. We walked inside and stood there for a little while. We were unsure if we were supposed to wait to be seated or just grab a table or what. The man at the front just stood there staring at us, he didn't smile, didn't say hello, we just stood there awkwardly in silence. Then the man from the parking lot and his girlfriend (I'm assuming) walked in behind us. Upon seeing us inside, he looked a little surprised and quietly murmured "...sorry." I guess apologizing for telling us to move? I mean, alright. I don't even understand what just happened, but it's no biggy, just weird. Then the man from the front finally "came to life" and gestures to a table. I was unsure if he was gesturing to us or parking lot guy behind us. My boyfriend and I inched forward a bit confused, and the parking lot man and his lady moved past us to talk to him. Unsure of what to do, I assumed that maybe he was gesturing the table to us? We were there first after all, and they weren't sitting down. So my boyfriend and I proceeded to sit down at the table. Parking lot man and his lady sat at a big table in the center of the restaurant that was not yet cleared. At this point I'm pretty positive he definitely knew the owners-and I'm really hoping I didn't just steal this guy's table by accident. He might tell me to move from there too! Haha! The man from up front came over to the table to take our order. He did not smile, was not friendly. He seemed kind of mad. I understand if there may be a language barrier or something, I don't know, but his demeanor in generally was just unwelcoming and rude. The atmosphere of the place was quiet and tense. Not welcoming at all. There was a toddler running around under all the tables (including ours)-which wasn't that big of a deal to my boyfriend and I, he was cute and we love kids! But I have to admit it was unprofessional and bizarre. I know other people who would have not handled that well at all. The food was good, so that was a plus. After our meal, we sat there awkwardly unsure if we to pay at the table or at the counter. The man at the front is staring at us with a stern look on his face. My boyfriend starts chuckling to himself and I knew he was thinking exactly what I was: "What in the world did we walk into today?" Lol After a short while of unsureness, my boyfriend walked up to pay. The only kind word or gesture we got was after we left a tip. We got a small "thank you." Food servings are pretty large, and were served at a nice temperature, pretty tasty, but nothing particularly exciting. It's about as good as you can get anywhere, the prices are super low probably lowest I've seen. I've tried all the dishes on the one page menu not the drinks page and found its very authentic Saigonese. As far as service goes it is ok I don't see anything wrong with it, this is a fast food establishment nothing over 6 bucks so be real don't expect steakhouse treatment.
