If you wanted to buy their delicious treats and get good Instagram photos, the entire place is a goldmine. (Y'know, in addition to having great places to sit to enjoy your treats.) Their S'mores cookie was downright perfection, and I'm sad I didn't get to try more of their treats. Yelp led us to this dessert spot in downtown Cleveland. We were at the Drury Inn and this was a quick walk. Colossal Cupcakes offers cupcakes, cookies, macarons, ice cream, shakes and various drinks. The brightly colored space has plenty of seating if you'd prefer to enjoy your dessert there. We enjoyed a variety of items. While I didn't think anything was more unique in flavor than other spots, I did appreciate how many cupcake flavors were in the case and they were huge! Items seemed fresh too. Areas not as stellar - only chocolate soft serve was available and it didn't seem ready for customers. Very melted in the waffle cone and I'd rather we were told it needed more time to sit before serving. Staffing was low with only one person serving customers and because extra hands weren't available the seating area felt dirty. Besides crime COLUMBUS is conservative, docile, bars clubs food vendors close early and there's nothing to do past 10pm except go to Hollywood Casino or some lame strip club with oblong shaped dancers. I walk up in this spot at like 10:30 pm and they have like 60 cupcakes up and available to choose from, dozens of cookies, brownies, and fudge and candy as well. These cupcakes are colossal! They run about $6.50 a piece. I chose the Oreo Cheesecake. It was very tasty. I asked the worker there what was her favorite and she said the Fruity Pebbles which was decadent, moist, colorful, and quite memorable. I also chose the Thin Mint Chocolate Chip. I assumed this would be my favorite of them all but it wasn't because the taste composition was too memorable in a good way. We've ordered several cakes from a spot in Indiana called the CAKE BAKE SHOP and they've got a cake called Oprah's 'O' List Mint Chocolate Chip Cake and the Thin Mint cupcake from Colossal Cupcakes kinda tastes exactly like that cake. The Oprah Cake is the favorite cake from that place that we order the most and because of that and the familiarity with its taste this was our least favorite cupcake. Again the cupcake is awesome if you've never had it before but if you've kinda tasted it from somewhere else several times before then your palate will be used to it. Hopefully this make sense. After reading the reviews we were gonna skip this place, but I was curious so I ended up just buying 2. Turns out yelp was right. I got an Oreo cheesecake and a champagne cupcake. I took them back to hotel and then back home with me and ate a couple days later: the Blondie was moderately dense and lots of walnut bits which made it slightly crumbly but delicious. We were looking for dessert and a number of nearby places seemed permanently closed so we were happy to find this cupcake shop! It was around 8PM and they still had a good selection of cupcakes. We asked about the cake shakes and quakes as there weren't any descriptions on the board about these (e.g. are there choices of flavors?). The lone person working there really didn't seem to want to talk about these items other than to say the shake had dairy and the quake was vegan. So...we took the hint and just went with cupcakes. I got a peanut butter cup cupcake to go and it was very good; the cake was chocolate, fresh and tasty. The peanut butter frosting was fluffy which I much prefer to heavier buttercream. The peanut butter flavor was good and the crumbled peanut butter cups on top completed the dessert nicely. Wasn't super impressed with their cupcakes, and I wanted to like this place really bad. I think the cupcakes are a bit overpriced for what they are. We got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cupcake and the chocolate cream cheese. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch had horrible frosting, it was really oily and tasted like straight almond extract, you couldn't even taste the cinnamon. It also was stale like it had been sitting out. The chocolate cream cheese was okay, but I felt like I could get a similar quality cupcake at a grocery store bakery. I wouldn't mind this so much if the prices weren't so high. It was $13 for 2 cupcakes, and while they are big, for that price I would expect a bit higher quality. We didn't try their ice cream so maybe that would've been better. Overall it's a cute place and a fun thing to do downtown especially for kids, but not sure it's worth the price. read more
