I raised my concerns to the owner and her comment to me was that she was out of town for the weekend and would not take any responsibility for the botched cake. She charged me over $100 dollars for a half a sheet cake cracked in half . I spoke to her today to share my concerns and the owner Margie Axelrod had zero empathy for the situation offering no options but tried to defend the situation by saying their cake designers do not make the customer cakes like they did in the past. My question now is, why are they charging the same.

Service is also attentive and friendly. My favourite worker who works there is an old lady, Luba from Ukraine, who I love chatting with because she just exudes joy and kindness. Plus, who doesn't love a Grandmother? There are younger workers there too who are nice. Prices are very decent. In my recent July 2024 visit, I got a Miami donut and a German Kaiser sandwich. I had never ordered any of their sandwiches before so The famous Miami donut has only gone up in price by $1.35. It cost $1.65 in 2019 and now, in July 2024, it cost $3.00. The sandwich that I ordered was a 'build your own' sandwich on Kaiser bread which was $6.50. I added turkey, tomatoes, their oil/dressing mix, and mayo on the side. The German Kaiser sandwich was a delicious second lunch for me after 3:30pm (the lunch I ate earlier in the day which I prepared at home was very light). Since my below review in 2019, I still love Michael's Bakery and I wish I lived closer to the business. While they may not be one of those "fancier" bakeries, they are still very good. Never judge a book by its cover (including inside appearance). The outside ("cover") building is simple which is fine since it tied into the neighbourhood (Brooklyn) that the bakery is located in. I'll definitely be back. I normally visit every 3-4 months.

I was amazed to hear that this bakery has existed for over 70 years in the same family. I was looking for croissants but they don't bake those. They bake cookies, bread, and a few other baked goods. I bought a sticky bun (I haven't tried it yet), beer claw with walnuts, coconut bun, and a small biscuit filled with bacon (my favourite) plus a very small free cookie was given to me. Everything that I tried was good but a little dry. The prices were very fair and not expensive. I was told that their hours are Tuesdays - Fridays - 7am - 5pm, Saturdays 7am to 3pm. Closed on Sundays and Mondays. I spent $6.25 total which is a good deal. Parking is at the back of the business or street parking. I found a free street parking spot when I arrived. I'll probably be back to buy a pack of the small biscuits filled with bacon which is $12 for a bunch of them. **** GOAL of 250 reviews in 2026 - 111/250 total reviews in 2026 - 952 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 31 May 2026

He came out from his job to observe me with my dog while she was struggling (she has an autoimmune condition) so she was taking awhile while he stood staring at us for an uncomfortable amount of time while I'm standing there with one hand covered in a dog poop bag. I asked him if I could help him and he told me he was making sure I was picking up after my dog and she's not allowed to go there (not even his property!). I had actually planned on placing an order with them next month to bring to my corporate office but after reading many of the recent reviews about this guy I have genuine concerns about the owner's mental health as it appears to becoming a frequent occurrence.

We mentioned that we had visited before under the original owner, but the prices had kept us from going back. She practically attacked us by saying that food is expensive and she was going to be doing things exactly the same way as they had been done before! We kept our cool and politely asked about some of the muffins. But her Aggressive Rudeness was such a turn off, that no one in our group wanted to buy anything!! When this bakery was under the ownership of Kevin, they had a Dessert Jar in a nice Glass cup for $8 This new owner now sells the same thing but has downgraded to a Plastic cup for $9- a dollar more! So disappointed that this Chardon bakery will NOT be a place for any of us!!! But Mavalee... you better remember that customer service can make or Break a business... We will continue to give our patronage to The Coffee Post in Chesterland! The staff is so nice and actually act like they want our business!!! AND the prices are reasonable with delicious food and coffee We hope a good bakery with great food and friendly service will come to Chardon one day. But Mavalees Bakery is NOT it.

There was a cute sign that says "down home bakery" which made me feel so cozy and warm. The majority of the pastries are $1.75 each, which obviously feels like a steal this day and age. I tried a glazed croissant and some type of turnover. The croissant was delicious. Soft, flaky, and sweet, I also got one of their popular pizza bagels. It's kind of a loose term "bagel" more like a round ball of bread, with marinara sauce and cheese on top. It was very tasty and fulfilled a savory tooth in the morning. There was one sweet woman working the counter and I think there is another baker. Of course the place could use some upgrades, but it's always nice to step inside a great spot that's been in the neighborhood for a long time and is still standing because they offer a great product.
