Macaroon type mini cookies were incredibly hard to chew and had a very strange not coconut macaroon traditional type flavor and were inedible. Cruller was not dry or rubbery but otherwise unremarkable. Blueberry cake donut was moist but the blueberry flavor was artificial and strange. Sour cream donut was actually moist and had the right flavor. The cronut wasn't bad at all! Flaky without any off flavors. Chocolate cake donut wasn't bad tasting thank god but was sadly dry. They're very affordable here. It's just super duper hit or miss as far as what you get.

There was a cute sign that says "down home bakery" which made me feel so cozy and warm. The majority of the pastries are $1.75 each, which obviously feels like a steal this day and age. I tried a glazed croissant and some type of turnover. The croissant was delicious. Soft, flaky, and sweet, I also got one of their popular pizza bagels. It's kind of a loose term "bagel" more like a round ball of bread, with marinara sauce and cheese on top. It was very tasty and fulfilled a savory tooth in the morning. There was one sweet woman working the counter and I think there is another baker. Of course the place could use some upgrades, but it's always nice to step inside a great spot that's been in the neighborhood for a long time and is still standing because they offer a great product.

I raised my concerns to the owner and her comment to me was that she was out of town for the weekend and would not take any responsibility for the botched cake. She charged me over $100 dollars for a half a sheet cake cracked in half . I spoke to her today to share my concerns and the owner Margie Axelrod had zero empathy for the situation offering no options but tried to defend the situation by saying their cake designers do not make the customer cakes like they did in the past. My question now is, why are they charging the same.

I'm so sad about this, but this was not my favorite experience at Leavened. Customer service was great of course but my selections fell short. I got a mushroom and ricotta croissant, which was fine. I forgot the ricotta was supposed to be there because it mostly tasted liked mushroom, but it was good. I also got the cinnamon monkey bread. This was not good. It was seemingly cooked in the paper that it was served in so the top of the bread pieces were crunchy, the middle was softer and then everything else was completely stuck to the paper. I didn't get to eat about 1/3 of what I paid for and I had to work really hard for the other 1/3. Also, the bread had a very spicy taste. It must have been cinnamon and allspice, but it was entirely too much and very overpowering. It truly tasted like a spicy savory bread which is not what I was expecting or wanted. Monkey bread is usually gooey and sweet. This missed the mark, but that's okay. I'll certainly return for another treat soon. Also the bread was looking fire this day.

I think I've tried this place enough to finally declare it an overall disappointment. Today I tried…read morethe hoisin tofu sandwich. The bread was fresh and crusty, there were two small strips of tofu that had maybe been dribbled on by hoisin sauce at some point, some lettuce and jalapeño slices, and carrots. The sandwich was dry as a bone and a really sad empty version of a banh mi. The chocolate rye cookie I bought as a back up was thankfully still deliciously chocolatey and soft as usual. The guy at the register said the bread pudding still has a "cinnamon roll base, so it has orange in it" despite nothing in the sign denoting this awful addition to bread pudding and the fact that cinnamon rolls are not orange rolls. But I digress and I won't fight with a cashier over their poor decisions lol. Also got a cherry chocolate sourdough on impulse. Pray it is soft inside.

My son and I picked up a variety of pastries to take with us. We really would have loved one of the refrigerated tortes, but we would not be going home immediately and I was concerned about that being with us on a hot July day. We'll just have to come back and try it next time. This is a very clean and organized little shop that has been around for awhile. I love these classic locally owned gems that you just don't see as much as you should. I love their unique pineapple/walnut Linzer torte. Quite tasty. Of course we tried the apple and the more traditional raspberry hazelnut too. My favorite thing we tried was hands-down the lemon bar. That buttery texture complements the tartness of the lemon perfectly. Well done, Farkas family. Can't wait til our next visit!

Been trying to get here since they opened, but the parking lot is always packed when I drive by, so I hit them up first thing on a Thursday morning at 6:35. Ended up with a cafe mocha and just a black coffee. The coffee was tasty, but more importantly, HOT! Even after my 10 minute drive home it was still HOT! I was debating over which baked goods to get in the case when I found a few premade boxes already prepared, so I grabbed two of those for an office meeting this morning.
