Cute little bakery in a cool neighborhood. Staff was very friendly. My burrito was the size of my forearm and could feed 2 very hungry people. It was a good blend of ingredients, but I wish they had a smaller version. I was also disappointed that by 10:30 on a Saturday they were sold out of many items. Go early for donuts and such. I will also say while I like the flavor and sweetness level of my donut, the texture was very different--Neither cake nor yeast but more like a challah bread.
I had a bacon egg and cheese and it was average, I'd say decent tasting. What I really appreciated is that it came out hot, which honestly makes a difference with breakfast sandwiches since they can go cold and sad pretty fast. One thing that threw me off, I'm used to New York style bacon egg and cheese with salt, pepper, and ketchup, and they didn't even have ketchup on the side for me to add. I also had a latte and that was just average too, nothing spectacular but nothing bad either. Overall I had a good time, it just didn't wow me.
Terrapin is wonderful. Cool, friendly staff that care about running a local, sustainable business. I appreciate a shop that runs on a "we've got it until we sell out" model. Never a doubt that what you're getting is fresh. So what do they run out of sometimes? Donuts. They have the most unique donuts in Cleveland. They're not decked out in over-the-top toppings, which are always better in theory than taste. Instead, these all follow the same format. Basic chewy donut with interesting flavor combinations and simple complementary toppings. Last time we were in they had lavender lemon, peanut butter banana and key lime coconut, among about 7-8 others. Highly recommend the key lime. Let's talk about the breakfast burritos. The size of a baby. A delicious baby. They're stuffed with a lot of ingredients and they all work together. The breakfast sandwiches are good too, though I am burrito from here on out. Breakfast ends at 11, heads up. They have a few tables in there but mostly keep up a steady stream of to-go traffic picking up breakfast, bakery items and coffees (they use Phoenix beans).
Tried both cake and yeast donuts again years later today. The cake donuts were hit or miss- All flavorful indeed, and some with a wonderful crispy outside. The pb banana was a winner for sure. But generally they are all very dense and almost too cakey- thick and dry in the mouth in a not great, heavy way. But still way better than the yeast donuts which should be skipped altogether. All of the four or so yeast donuts I tried were big grease laden heavy extremely bready misses. Dry, thick, chewy in a way that was more like a large piece of fried bread loaf than a light fluffy donut. Just bad in texture all around. The frosting and flavor were still there which is nice. Service was super friendly and the inside is quite cute with lots of alt flair and stickers everywhere. They just need to use a lot less flour instead of making heavy bready loafy donuts. GUYS. I had to add another star. I tried the giant ho-ho they sell and I have forgiven their earlier trespasses against donuts! This thing tastes almost like a real ho ho except a slight hint of bittersweet in the chocolate coating. Creamy inside. Chocolatey everywhere and the cake isn't too dense or dry! Get one! Wow! I took a picture of mine but I already decimated it because it was so good.
Tip: pay with cash if you can,. There is a credit card fee charged at time of transaction. We saw their quiches and cinnamon rolls for sale. Can't wait to come back and try their food!
These were maybe some of the worst donuts I have had! So dry! And I have had my fair share of donuts. My friend went and picked them up, so I can't speak for what the place looks like inside or the service. My friend got a breakfast sandwich and enjoyed it along with a coffee.
We did not make it in time for donuts, so we had to get cookies. Terrapin donuts sell out early. We were leaving at noon and the shop closed when we left. Terrapin is a cute little donut shop in Tremont. They have a variety of baked goods, but the shining stars are their donuts. The cookies deserve a huge shout out as well. The oatmeal cream pie was enough for two. It was soft and perfectly proportioned. The decor in the shop is cute. There are several seats. The counter is visually interesting as it is covered with old concert tickets.
Placed an order for pickup. Not sure if brioche donuts is my preference but I've only had one so far Update: I much preferred the cake options i.e, blueberry cake, apple cider cake

Definitely went both mornings and do not have one single regret!! First morning was 2 lattes (one honey and one vanilla), 2 donuts (key lime pie and peanut butter banana), a breakfast sandwich and burrito (holy cow the burrito)!! We ate half for breakfast and half for lunch. Second morning replicated the coffees because they were PERFECT!! 2 more donuts (lemon raspberry and apple cider) and shared a breakfast sandwich. So good!! Service both mornings was warm. They were so friendly and welcoming!! Would 100% prefer giving my money to a cool locally owned establishment like this than a chain. It only showed up when we searched bakeries though! Hoping it can be edited to show up when you search "coffee" or "breakfast" as well.
Today was my first day trying this place. I yelped "cinnamon roll" and this place popped up so I decided to immediately go try it. The staff was nice and they also have other options besides pastries they have breakfast sandwiches too. I will say if you go get there early because most of the donut selection was gone and there weren't any more cinnamon rolls. They also charged a fee for a card transactions so unless you're getting a lot I would maybe also take cash. I ended up trying to Keylime coconut donut... This is a good donut. It has a lot of height and thickness. The key lime flavor is just the right amount. There are a couple other flavors I had my eye on, so I will definitely be back to try them. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because the donut is literally the only thing I tried

The highlight was the lemon raspberry with jam and the key lime with coconut. They don't put a crazy amount of coconut on it, which was nice. The donuts are kind of between cake and a traditional yeast donut. When I was there, the donuts didnt have other flavors for the cake part, but mostly seemed to be distinguished by glaze & topping. Unfortunately they look prettier than they taste and didn't blow me away. The coffee was good and no complains about service. They have typical donut/coffee shop ambiance.
My FAVORITE bakery in the city ! Fresh donuts and beignets ! Amazing staff! Cute, nostalgic decor! I'm not a big coffee drinker so I haven't tried any but they serve that too! The wraps are fresh and flavorful and packed to the brim! The pastries have this taste that you can't find anywhere else. It tastes like a REAL donut, none of that store bought stuff. My number one place to go to hands down!
My son and I were leaving the aquarium from a yoga and stingrays event, and he was super whiny. I suggested breakfast and he perked up and the thought of food. We hit W. 14th and I saw Terrapin. It's funny because I worked at the barber shop down the street for almost a year and never tried them. Well, this morning was the day! We walk in and he makes comments about all the pretty colors, they really do put you in a happy mood. I think it's great for mornings. I knew he was sleepy and he likes lavender lemonade, so he agreed to the lavender lemonade donut. I got the Forest and a Chai tea latte with almond milk to go. Y'ALL!!! I wanna say this breakfast sandwich is the best that I had ever had, seriously. We had a seat and my son ate half of his donut, while I waited for my name to be called. The chef was so cool, he brought my food to us table side. That really made a great impression to me because it screamed SERVICE. He saw my son was still eating and he accommodated. After writing this review, I think I'll pay them another visit this week, lol. read more
Went out to find a breakfast burrito spot. Was not disappointed at all. They have a small shared parking lot in the back. A small seating area. Got a donut too, their blueberry one. Very good, nice crispy outside and cake like center. The breakfast burrito came out and oh my, it was a gigantic burrito. Could definer feed someone two or three meals. read more
Casual spot with fantastic burritos, doughnuts, and coffee. Nothing fancy but great options with friendly staff. Their burritos are FAT. They are so heavy and easily shareable with two people and both will feel satiated after eating it. They also have a lot of pride in their burritos. read more

Came for coffee, breakfast, and a pastry. We thought that the coffee was very subpar. Ordered lattes and would certainly not order them again. Also ordered a breakfast sandwich (egg, cheese, and bacon) and it was delicious! Also included in the order was a breakfast burrito (which was giant) but priced at a whooping $17. We got the blueberry poptart which was also delicious! Would 100% come back for pastries only!! read more

What a great find. Left the Cleveland zoo and thought a coffee might be nice. Found Terrapin and so glad we did. The breakfast sandwiches are great (Forest and Texas) and the coffee was very good. They had enormous homemade blueberry pop tarts! Decor was awesome. Vibe was awesome. The staff was awesome. That's three thumbs up. read more

We're not sure what they use to fry the donuts in, but it leaves an after taste. The place is cool, the donuts look great. Super nice people. Just can't get over the after taste. read more
I was passing this bakery and the bright donut sign beckoned me in. The staff couldn't have been nicer and shared their favorite recommendations. I settled on a key lime coconut and lemon lavender donut which they carefully packed. Major yumm! The donut was a little crisp on the outside with layers of fluffy brioche within and a flavorful glaze. Something you could be happy with as a cake or a yeast donut fan. Highly recommend if you'd like to make your morning a little gladder. read more
COME. AND. GET. IT. Terrapin Bakery is tucked away with an unassuming storefront nestled between central Tremont and Steelyard. Once inside, you'll be surrounded by eye popping treats and delicious smells! My husband and I recently popped by because we've been wanting to try Terrapin for a while. Originally, I thought maybe it was a competitor with nearby Leavened, but that's not the case! They make very different sorts of pastries and treats, and I strolling to both would be an excellent way to spend a morning. We came during Christmastime, and I was delighted to find a variety of seasonal cookies, cupcakes, and pastries. Most appealing was the classic Buche du Noel, which I oogled but didn't buy because the two of us could certainly not eat it on our own. Ultimately we opted for some breakfast sandwiches - I got the pesto and my husband got the peppers and onions. They were dynamite - gooey cheese, pops of sundried tomato, savory pesto slathered on a signature brioche bun. Later in the week, we returned to buy a pack of the brioche buns, which we plan to use as hamburger buns, and to get one of their seasonal apple spice cupcakes, which we split. The cupcake was moist and flavorsome, and the frosting was not too sweet. All of their items are also decorated beautifully. Other things you might stop by for: bespoke celebration cakes, a take and bake tray of cinnamon rolls, their signature coffee blend, and maybe even a cute Terrapin t-shirt. read more

I'm bummed to only give them two stars but I was a little disappointed with my visit to be honest. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and I appreciate that, but the donut situation was as a bummer and the food was average. As a donut connoisseur, I was excited to try a new place that I've seen on lists for 'best donuts in Cleveland' but didn't even finish eating the one I tried. The only flavor of fresh donuts that they had available were glazed, and everything else was day old, which I found surprising for a spot that's known for their donuts. The glazed donut I tried was dense, had a weird texture and just tasted like mostly just powdered sugar, pretty bummed. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches and ate half of each. The Forest (egg, cheese, spinach, mushroom) with bacon added was pretty darn good. The flavor was really tasty but the bread was a weird texture (there's a theme here). My husband loved this one. The other was the Pepper and Onion (egg, cheese, pepper, onion) add turkey sausage. This one was not good-the onions tasted gross and it just overall had an odd flavor. I doubt I'll ever come back to be honest, but if I did, I'd order the forest and nothing else. read more

Very good fresh hot coffee, cold brew coffee with oat milk, and breakfast sandwiches with egg on delicious crusty brioche rolls. Lots of locals were in for donuts, pastries and coffee. We got to go, but these was a bit of outdoor seating. read more

Wow, I think I died and went to heaven after trying this place!! I was driving to work and randomly saw this bakery and decided to stop in. I am so glad I did. First, I was greeted with the warmest welcome! I got a vanilla latte, an egg and cheese sandwich, and a lemon raspberry donuts. Everything was incredible! If you're in the area, I would definitely recommend you stop in. read more

Awesome little bakery! I work right around the corner and was craving a donut and heard about this place. Decided to grab a dozen for family to try as well and we all loved them. Not your typical donut... more like a pastry with subtle flavors. we all really enjoyed everything we tried! Next time I'll try a breakfast sandwich read more

Staff was super friendly and the donuts were AMAZING. They make most of the donuts with brioche and they're super fluffy and soft. Donuts are baked every morning and run out towards the afternoon so get there early! A little pricey but worth the splurge. The lavender lemon glaze and butterfinger were our favorites!
