Terrapin is wonderful. Cool, friendly staff that care about running a local, sustainable business. I appreciate a shop that runs on a "we've got it until we sell out" model. Never a doubt that what you're getting is fresh. So what do they run out of sometimes? Donuts. They have the most unique donuts in Cleveland. They're not decked out in over-the-top toppings, which are always better in theory than taste. Instead, these all follow the same format. Basic chewy donut with interesting flavor combinations and simple complementary toppings. Last time we were in they had lavender lemon, peanut butter banana and key lime coconut, among about 7-8 others. Highly recommend the key lime. Let's talk about the breakfast burritos. The size of a baby. A delicious baby. They're stuffed with a lot of ingredients and they all work together. The breakfast sandwiches are good too, though I am burrito from here on out. Tried both cake and yeast donuts again years later today. The cake donuts were hit or miss- All flavorful indeed, and some with a wonderful crispy outside. The pb banana was a winner for sure. But generally they are all very dense and almost too cakey- thick and dry in the mouth in a not great, heavy way. But still way better than the yeast donuts which should be skipped altogether. All of the four or so yeast donuts I tried were big grease laden heavy extremely bready misses. Dry, thick, chewy in a way that was more like a large piece of fried bread loaf than a light fluffy donut. Just bad in texture all around. The frosting and flavor were still there which is nice. Service was super friendly and the inside is quite cute with lots of alt flair and stickers everywhere. They just need to use a lot less flour instead of making heavy bready loafy donuts. GUYS. I had to add another star. I tried the giant ho-ho they sell and I have forgiven their earlier trespasses against donuts! This thing tastes almost like a real ho ho except a slight hint of bittersweet in the chocolate coating. Creamy inside. Chocolatey everywhere and the cake isn't too dense or dry! Get one! Wow! Terrapin is a cute little donut shop in Tremont. They have a variety of baked goods, but the shining stars are their donuts. The cookies deserve a huge shout out as well. The little bakery that could, punching well above its weight class amongst giants like Bigmouth, Goldie's, and Brewnuts. The humble storefront would be easy to miss despite being near a heavily trafficked intersection off highway 71, were it not for the DONUTS flag eagerly waving down passerby. To park, you can risk it on the street right in front of the entrance, or go behind the building where their small private lot is. There's some standing room and a few seats to sip your coffee and munch, but it's mostly a takeaway operation. There's a reason why the donuts tend to run out early, and you'll be well-advised to show up before 10AM if you want your pick of whatever 10+ flavors they have on a given day. While they play around with seasonal flavors, the staples like vanilla, chocolate, and maple exist perennially. My favorite, lemon lavender, fortunately also does. What sets the dough apart is how substantive each bite is, without being too dense like Brewnuts or collapsing immediately like the big chains. Breakfast sandos are another tasty treat, but I have not brought myself to fork over the cash to try their breakfast burritos yet. The rest of the bakery items are okay, their cinnamon rolls and cakes not having reached the same level of perfection as the donuts have. My friend had a custom carrot cake ordered and while tasty, it was pretty sweet and HEA-VY. This little bakery was right across from our Air B&B when we were in Cleveland for the weekend and oh my gosh how did get so lucky??!! Definitely went both mornings and do not have one single regret!! First morning was 2 lattes (one honey and one vanilla), 2 donuts (key lime pie and peanut butter banana), a breakfast sandwich and burrito (holy cow the burrito)!! We ate half for breakfast and half for lunch. Second morning replicated the coffees because they were PERFECT!! 2 more donuts (lemon raspberry and apple cider) and shared a breakfast sandwich. So good!! Service both mornings was warm. They were so friendly and welcoming!! Would 100% prefer giving my money to a cool locally owned establishment like this than a chain. The highlight was the lemon raspberry with jam and the key lime with coconut. They don't put a crazy amount of coconut on it, which was nice. Once inside, you'll be surrounded by eye popping treats and delicious smells! My husband and I recently popped by because we've been wanting to try Terrapin for a while. Originally, I thought maybe it was a competitor with nearby Leavened, but that's not the case! They make very different sorts of pastries and treats, and I strolling to both would be an excellent way to spend a morning. We came during Christmastime, and I was delighted to find a variety of seasonal cookies, cupcakes, and pastries. Most appealing was the classic Buche du Noel, which I oogled but didn't buy because the two of us could certainly not eat it on our own. Ultimately we opted for some breakfast sandwiches - I got the pesto and my husband got the peppers and onions. They were dynamite - gooey cheese, pops of sundried tomato, savory pesto slathered on a signature brioche bun. Later in the week, we returned to buy a pack of the brioche buns, which we plan to use as hamburger buns, and to get one of their seasonal apple spice cupcakes, which we split. The cupcake was moist and flavorsome, and the frosting was not too sweet. All of their items are also decorated beautifully. I'm bummed to only give them two stars but I was a little disappointed with my visit to be honest. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and I appreciate that, but the donut situation was as a bummer and the food was average. As a donut connoisseur, I was excited to try a new place that I've seen on lists for 'best donuts in Cleveland' but didn't even finish eating the one I tried. The only flavor of fresh donuts that they had available were glazed, and everything else was day old, which I found surprising for a spot that's known for their donuts. The glazed donut I tried was dense, had a weird texture and just tasted like mostly just powdered sugar, pretty bummed. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches and ate half of each. The Forest (egg, cheese, spinach, mushroom) with bacon added was pretty darn good. The flavor was really tasty but the bread was a weird texture (there's a theme here). My husband loved this one. The other was the Pepper and Onion (egg, cheese, pepper, onion) add turkey sausage. This one was not good-the onions tasted gross and it just overall had an odd flavor. I doubt I'll ever come back to be honest, but if I did, I'd order the forest and nothing else. read more

I came at around 10am yesterday on a Sunday and literally everything was sold out. I would've loved to try their crullers, French croissants, chocolate croissants but alas. They were sold out more than an hour ago :(. I ended up getting a pepper/onion breakfast sandwich with turkey sausage and yo...it was GOOD. The bread they used is this magical toasted brioche in the shape of a cat's head. The ingredients and taste of the food were...GOOD. I don't even like breakfast sandwiches normally but this was quality. Prices are kind of high and even with everything sold out I think this place is 5-star caliber. Tremont Rejoice!! I stumbled on my GO TO doughnut shop on a recent desperate attempt to grab a cold coffee on my way to work. Perfect location, (as long as you don't blow past it like I did), just past the Quigley death circle on 14th heading into Tremont. I did a u turn, parked easily, and immediately noted the nice window set up they have for COVID times. All the yummy sweet baked and fried carbs are right up to the glass so you can pick out your sweet treat. The gentleman who served me was so friendly and genuinely thanked me for stopping by. On to my coffee...major points for bamboo straws. Excellent cold brew, strong but not battery acid strong. And that donut? Freaking heavenly. Terrapin Coffee Co. is a small new coffee spot located next to the Tremont Animal Clinic on West 14th. The name terrapin is a play on the band Grateful Dead and the entire shop carries a Dead Head theme. There's a handful of free street spots available right outside the business (but note, I didn't see any dedicated accessible parking). Terrapin is a smaller spot and maybe holds 8-10 people max. There's a few small armchairs in the corner and just a handful of wood benched tables. I loved the Grateful Dead concert art on the walls and the hand-painted side table! I met the owner, Jackson, and he was a really nice guy. It made me want to come back and continue to give him my business. I can't comment much on the coffee (because I don't drink a lot of coffee). Rather, I tried an iced chai and sat for a little while to read. The prices on their menu are beyond reasonable, and in fact it was thrilling to not pay $6 for a Chai. Loved hearing the Terrapin Station album playing (Grateful Dead's 1977 studio album). I'll be back! read more
