Best store in town...with amazing gals that work there! Great Tuesday night knit group!

I knit every day, and yarn is one of my favorite things. This is my favorite yarn shop the Denver metro area. If you love hand dyed yarns, they have the best selection, including a large variety of single skein gradients. The store isn't very close to where I live, but if I have money to spend on yarn, this is where I come. Just walking in makes me feel happy. read more

I was here for the first time in August for the yarn crawl. This place is huge!!!! One of the largest selections I have ever seen. But sadly, their customer service was terrible. Not a friendly face to be found. So despite my longing for some of their wonderful crafting goodies, I will not be back. read more

Don't expect to be greeted. The owner is more interested in chatting about her love life with her inner circle rather than helping a client who is looking for someone, anyone, for assistance If you ask for help from the assistant, she'll only direct you to one of the patrons knitting at the table for assistance. You can get your stash here, but why when you can get superior service elsewhere. read more

This is a tiny little store in a small office building near Southglenn Mall. But it is absolutely amazing how Tiffany is able to fill every square inch (and then some!) with gorgeous and unusual yarns and accessories. You can spend as little as $5 or as much as $40 or more for a single skein of yarn. There are a ton of books, patterns, hooks, needles and a staff who will always find time to answer your questions. And while you're there, sign up for her multitude of classes, including crochet. Monthly sales make the city's yarn lovers return again and again and again. read more

Cosy and expertly staffed...the yarn choices are phenominal. They have enlarged their space and have an inviting drop-in knitting table or comfy couches. I needed a specific pattern and they were more than happy to order it for me. Very pleased with the shop. read more

Amazing yarn shop. I was mainly distracted by the largest selection of indie dyed sock yarn that I've ever seen in one yarn shop that I didn't get to look at their other yarns. Huge selection of needles and notions as well. All the ladies in the shop were so helpful and friendly. I wish I was lucky enough to live closer, but I will definitely come back next time I'm in Denver! read more

First of all I do want to say how amazing the selection in this store is. I would ordinarily give an LYS this stocked 5 stars. I can always find what I'm looking for (with a few exceptions) and often find things I love that I'm not looking for. That being said, I have been here a few times now and I'm just now making a yelp review because for the SECOND time I have experienced something here that made me very uncomfortable, and it was from the same employee that made me feel uncomfortable the last time. On this occasion, she seemed to be giving a class to a single student, but she wasn't so much teaching as berating the poor woman taking her class. I was in the shop for about 15 to 20 minutes and she snapped at the student at least five times. I myself have taught knitting classes and have never found an occasion to get that angry with a student, and overall it made me feel a little queasy and quite unwelcome. I left with about half of what I was planning to buy simply because I was so shocked. I was not surprised it was the same employee who had made a trip to the shop back in 2016 so unsettling, however I am surprised that someone who appears to be so rude works in a customer service position. I have been shopping at Colorful Yarn since I started knitting, three years ago. I have always loved their selection of yarn and needles. But the shop was so small and a bit claustrophobic. Not anymore. They have just expanded the store to more than two times the original size. It is a happy happy place now, with the same (and perhaps expanded) selection, but now with great atmosphere. You just want to stay a while and knit or or visit. With other mainstay shops, nearby, closing, it is a relief to see Colorful Yarn putting on a new and improved face!! read more

I've visited this yarn store several times. They carry a HUGE assortment of yarn. Sock knitters and lace knitters beware - they carry some beauties! Brands I've seen at this store include Madelinetosh, Blue Heron, Handmaiden, Sweet Georgia and Noro just to name a few. The only reason I give this store 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the friendliness of the staff I have encounted. I've been in the store before and mentioned that I had a set budget for a project and the person helping me all of a sudden became not so nice. Despite this, I have been back and have been better received by other staff. May have been a one time incident, so I'll keep coming back. read more

I consider Colorful Yarns to by "MY" local yarn shop. I come here and shop for yarn at least twice a month, sometimes more depending on if I need specific things for projects I am working on. I have been in enough times that I have become friendly with the staff. They are always very nice, attentive but not over bearing and helpful. I have gotten recommendations on yarn, patterns and tools, all of which have been helpful. Most importantly though, my son loves to go in with me (miracle of miracles, he actually asked me a few weeks ago if I could take him to the yarn store!) thanks to the automatic ball winder. Every time we go in, they let him push the buttons on the ball winder and he gets to wind them up from the skeins. He absolutely loves it! I also think they have great prices. I have purchased the exact same yarns at other stores that are $.50 to a dollar more per skein (on the low end stuff) and they have very good prices on the higher end. Even though the store is a little small, there is a seemingly endless amount of stuff that is squished in without feeling over crowded. And like others have said, they will gladly special order anything you need that is not in stock. It is also a great place to hang out and knit. Every single time I have been in, there is someone(s) sitting at the table, working and chatting. This is definitely my go-to store for yarn and supplies. read more

Absolutely love this store . the staff and the owner here is so helpful to find yarn that go with the pattern . they are very friendly and they have a huge selection of yarn and a table to sit and enjoy the books and pattern collection they have . they also have sales every month and the selection is amazing . This is my favorite knitting haunt. I love the staff - they are so helpful! They really listen to what you need or want and give you a range of options to fit your style and budget. I visited Colorful Yarns for the first time and found the customer service at Colorful Yarns to be EXRA-ORDINARY!!! I had messed up my first attempt at knitting a baby blanket for a soon-to-be born grandson and couldn't fix it, so was looking for more yarn to make a new start. Carmen looked at what I had done - and took the time to correct my mistake for me - with a smile!!! I didn't buy any yarn that day - but I'll never shop for yarn anywhere else. Not easy to find but worth the search. My granddaughter, the knitter, loves this place. Crammed floor to ceiling with yarns; varied collection of unusual knitting-related gifts; amazing selection of tools, too. Pattern books galore & we were able to browse undisturbed for a lengthy period until we needed assistance. read more
