They were able to accommodate our order and have it ready in 30 mins even though they were closing in less than an hour. This is a small restaurant and bar. Beer selection was very good. The food was American comfort food and very tasty. I had the meatloaf with mash potatoes and my wife a hamburger. The food was homemade and very hot just off the grill. We were both very pleased. read more

I like the restaurant and the setup. Food is good, and I think they have the best wings and chicken in town. Unfortunately I never get the chance to go because the hours are terrible. The kitchen staff makes the hours and they are closed during community events. They have a nice bar area, but it's impossible to get food past the evening time because the kitchen shuts down. There are other places opening in the same area that are far more competitive. So its really fallen to the wayside as an option in irwin. read more

This is the standard to which any breakfast spot should aspire. Wonderful funny waitresses that call you Hon and give you guidance on what sort of toast to get ("Go with the marble rye...but if you aren't going there, the home-style is pretty good too...."). The "Three Little Pig Skillet" was about as good a breakfast as I can remember having, and breakfast is one of my favorite meals. I wish there was a sixth star.... read more

If you think about going here to eat, think again. The mashed potatoes tasted like a box mix, the gravy from a jar and the vegetables from a can. It was bland and I liked my high school cafeteria food more than this. You might as well stop at a fast food place. read more

They get two stars because my husband's Reuben he liked. I had the fish sandwich and a salad. The ranch dressing ng haas a sweet, weird taste so I couldnt finish it. I ordered the small fish sandwich because I almost always have to take half home when I order fish. Well, no problem here! It was literally a 5" bun and I threw away half of it because the fish was so small. I cut it in half. The second half had literally a 2" square of meat. It also comes with only bagged ripple potato chips that were so salty I couldn't eat them either. Food is delicious...especially breakfast! My husband and I frequently go on the weekends for their breakfast special, which includes a croissant sandwich with cheese, eggs and ham (but I always sub the ham for bacon!) and either hash browns or homefries....greasy and so yummy, like breakfast should be! We can both eat and get a drink for under $14 easily. But unfortunately, there's too many downfalls. The place is in desperate need of a facelift. I know it's got that 'classic downtown Irwin" feel and charm, but it's very outdated. Also, the service is slow. Sometimes I will stop in on my lunch break simply for an iced tea in the summer or hot chocolate when it's cold, and it takes forever for someone to get to you. Note: waitresses will not come over and assist. You need to wait for the hostess / cashier lady. Also, some waitresses are friendly, some are just uugggghhhhh so slow and kinda rude. read more

Whenever I'm looking for some comfort food, my goto place is the Colonial Grille. It has great breakfast food and dinner as well just like a classic diner. They also have a really great Sunday brunch buffet that will be sure to fill you up. If you go, try the smothered chicken, it's one of my favorites. read more

I visited the Colonial Grill and Taproom for the first and most likely the last time just this past Thursday with a few friends from work. I ordered their Colonial Grill Chicken which was actually very good! The chicken had a flavorful breading and the meat was very moist. We had a great meal and I was excited to go home and tell my husband about the place so we could go back sometime. However, the last 5 minutes we were there completely ruined it for me. That staff was very rude and made us feel rushed out of the restaurant. The 40-something year old busboy shoved into me as he hurried over to clear our table when we had literally JUST stood up to leave. Not to mention the words "excuse me" were never uttered from his mouth. On top of that, the old woman at the front of the restaurant (who I'm hoping wasn't the owner) barked at me to "Use the other door" when we were trying to leave, without even glancing up from the counter. We never got a "Have a good night" or a "Thanks for coming!" I don't know if we came on a bad night or what. But I will not recommend the place to anyone. Its sad and disappointing that a few unmannered people can turn away 3 first time customers from ever wanting to return to their establishment. read more

Went here for breakfast today. The breakfast was pretty decent but nothing out of the ordinary. One good thing was that there coffee was pretty okay. At places like this I usually don't like the coffee but here I was pleasantly surprised. The refills also came pretty fast. If you like a lot of choice they certainly have it here. I absolutely love the food and atmosphere of this place, especially eating breakfast in the classic diner side at the front of the restaurant. Food and service is always efficient even with a large crowd. It's a great little local place that I can remember coming to since I was a small child. Since moving to Irwin as an adult, I will say that my only disappointment with this place is its unpredictable evening hours. On multiple occasions, we have tried to stop out for a beer or a glass of wine on a Friday night only to find them already shutting down and stopping service well ahead of the advertised closing hours. I understand a lot of small bars will close up early if there aren't as many customers, but they were closing up the bar by 9 on a Friday night when the hours posted on their website are until 12:30 AM, and on Google 11 PM. Needless to say, when looking for a place to stop after work or for a simple appetizer and drinks we don't even bother trying to come in here now based on several nights of the same experience. Overall, this is a good restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but don't make a drive out here beyond 8-9 PM even if the hours state otherwise. read more

A quaint diner that sits on Main Street in Irwin. I normally come here for breakfast or lunch with my dad on weekends. The breakfast is always delicious! I always get the eggs, toast, home fries and sausage. They are consistent with the quality and yum. Best coffee in the area and I love how it's served in old-fashioned mugs. Lunch is also good. I always get the grilled chicken wrap and I love it - it has roasted peppers and really kicks it up a notch in flavor. French fries are standard. I've only had dinner once here, it was a turkey dinner, and that was good too. Nothing terribly remarkable but it was still tasty. Service is always extremely friendly! Sometimes it takes awhile for lunch, but the friendliness of the staff makes up for it. There is also a bar in the back. The bar area is dated-looking, but I haven't had a bad experience there either. read more

Stopped last night before a show. Friendly but outdated interior which is no detriment. I sat at the counter as I was alone and they were busy. Service was quick, you can get a beer even if you are not in the Tap room. Had the Rachel and it was very good. My issue is, I saw them cooking at the grill. Main cook had long hair, no one had a hairnet on. Men just had ball caps on. Not one person had gloves on except a man that gloved when he battered fish...of which the raw fish was laying in the pan on the counter the whole time. Never saw anyone wash their hands. A sliced hot dog bun was placed on the sidewall of the grill waiting for the hot dog to be done. Fried chicken was put back in the fryer to heat/refry I won't return. From what I saw, I would not trust the food quality and safety. read more

Ok so the food is off the hook and the prices VERY fair for the potions. The only issue is sometimes they are understaffed for the number of patrons, but overall the wait and the food makes it worthwhile. Do the trivia night, major good wings, the over all ambience is totally "early southwestern PA" and quite comfortable. The beer selections in the tap room are spot on and the prices of the same fair and reasonable. Go there it is a must! :) Oh and dont forget Sunday Brunch, starve yourself before going it'll make it even more unreal! :) read more

I've eaten here twice, and had wildly different experiences. If you want to sit in the back at the bar and watch a game, I recommend that highly. Service in the lower dining room is not great. The last time we ate there our food vanished or was given to someone else, and our waitress who checked on us once outside of seating and delivering the check did so before we got our food, making for an unpleasant and confusing situation for all. Imagine being asked to pay for your meal before receiving it... after waiting ~45 minutes for extremely basic diner food. Maybe try it, if you're feeling patient. read more

Colonial grille is an Irwin staple. I've had breakfast lunch and dinner here on multiple occasions. Irwin has few places to dine unless you like fast food so choices are limited, thus I am almost forced to eat here. The service is sub par. I can count numerous occasions where I've waited for quite a long time to even get a beverage let alone order. I've walked out on one occasion since my wife and I were seated made a drink order then the server disappeared for almost a half hour. The bartenders are decent though, and their beer selection is good. The bar area is comfortable and appropriately lit. If you go here sit at the bar and order at least you will get served there. All that said, they have the best fried chicken around hands down. They use a pressure fryer and cook it to order. The wings are huge and the sauces are good. The chicken is the only savior here. read more

Great place for breakfast! It isn't very fancy and doesn't appear to have been updated in the recent past, but they cook the food right in the open, which is awesome. My go-to dish here is "It's a Beautiful Day," which consists of french toast and choice of bacon or sausage. The french toast is always perfect, and reminds me of diner-style food. I've never been disappointed with this choice. This place gets VERY busy after church on Sundays, but is nearly empty on weeknights, when we prefer to go. The staff is attentive, and I feel that most things on the menu are reasonably priced. This is truly one of the only family-owned breakfast restaurants in the Irwin area, and I would recommend to anyone who wants a tasty meal at a good price. read more

Kept debating on 2-3 stars. Can't complain about the food, pretty decent and comes out quickly. I agree with other reviews about subpar service. I enjoy supporting a local restaurant, other choices in the area for breakfast are chain restaurants like Denny's and Eat N' Park. I can't sit anywhere near the cook station, it's a little painful/sickening to watch the food being handled. On one of my previous visits I sat and watched the female cook touch food and then in the middle of cooking would grab her phone to text...going right back to touching the food. Not very sanitary. I was just in this past weekend and had the usual subpar service. Our waitress checked on us once and never bothered to offer/get us refills. A common theme seems to be you are better off being a regular or to order coffee. The two tables next to us (with the same waitress) ordered coffee and the girl came around to bring them 2 refills. read more
