We were staying in the area and this was close to the Courtyard Marriott. No issues with parking or waiting for a booth. There were plenty of seats available in this small diner. It didn't feel dirty, but didn't feel that clean either. My husband ordered the French Toast which he seemed to enjoy. I decided to try an egg white omelette with tomatoes and spinach. It came with a side of hash browns and toast. Big portions; I took leftovers home. The omelet and hash browns were okay; a bit bland. I may try to doctor them up with some tomato sauce or something as I don't like to waste food. Our waitress was nice and we didn't wait too long for our food. I'd probably return if I were in the area again. I think I'll order my eggs with cheese next time or one of their lunch/dinner items. read more

I am not usually in this area so I am glad I happened to pass this diner and then turn around. Looks great on the outside and on the inside. Exactly what a cool Jersey Diner should look like. Place was quite busy, which is why I sat at the counter. I ordered a cheeseburger, cheese fries and a diet coke (cause I'm watching my figure). Waitress was very friendly. She reminded me of Rebel Wilson, without the Australian accent. I forgot to take pictures, but trust me -- the food was delicious. This was absolutely disgusting. We ordered mozzarella sticks that tasted so freezer burn. As soon as it came out, I noticed that they looked different. I honestly don't even know how they can serve this to people. Every time my family and I order from here, they always forget an item or multiple things, and today was the final straw for us. They forgot more than one of our orders so my mother went to ask them if we could have what we order. Mind you, we usually don't care since we care a lot about local businesses. What is with all these raving reviews of this diner?? Sorry, but this was a total flop for me. Starting right from the entrance, the hostess was sitting at the bar, glanced at us and then finally made her way to seating us, as if we were interupting her life. My sister the more conservative diner decided on a platter of french toast and sausage as her meal. Nothing terrible, and nothing exciting...like NOTHING...not even some whipped cream, not even a single sliced strawberry. The flavor was regular at best, and it came with a ton of prepackaged containers of corn syrup...um...pancake syrup. I mean, even Ihop has a decent syrup option. As the foodie that I am, I ordered the mac n cheese burger. The burger came out looking amazing, I was really excited! Sadly the burger was SOOO bland, not even salt and pepper on the meat! A diner that can't cook a decent burger is a definite no. Also, the mac and cheese was just a square chunk of bland carbs. Also, this chili, definitely came out of a Hormel can. We ordered a turkey club sandwich and a Triple Decker chicken salad sandwich both with white toast. We ordered a hot chocolate and a decaf coffee. Sandwiches were delicious tomatoes lettuce were fresh, bacon was crisp and delicious. White turkey meat. Chicken salad was fresh and delicious with a good flavor. Came here for breakfast after a work meeting. This is one of the few diners I hadn't been to in Bergen County. It's a classic old school diner, no frills or recent renovations. Prices are low and service was quick. Our waitress was also very friendly. I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs. My eggs came out sunny side up, as ordered. They grilled the corned beef hash and home fries until crispy, which is a plus. They're also actually open 24 hours, like a diner should be. read more

Keep in mind, this is a more old school looking diner, not the newly renovated ones that look fancy. It kind of reminds me more of the old truck stop diners where you expect the old school push button juke boxes at each table (sadly they don't have these here, but you catch my drift). Either which way I've been meaning to come here for a while now since it came with some good recommendations, but each time in the past id give up due to no parking. However, I finally had my chance tonight and gotta say, I'm upset I didn't try harder to find parking before. What really makes this place shine is the service. As a patron, you will easily make me happy if you don't keep me waiting, make sure I'm okay by stopping by every now and then, and always make sure to ask me if I want my drink refilled. Our waitress easily rose above and beyond here. I think she filled my drink about 5 times, half the time without me even knowing, heh. She constantly checked on us to make sure everything was okay and had offered great suggestions and opinions on the menu. Even the manager stopped by at one point to say hi and make sure we were happy. Now that's great service! For the food, id say above average diner food with some great options (I ordered the Diablo Burger, a spicy chorizo burger with cheddar cheese which was pretty good, and substituted my regular fries for "South Jersey Fries" - fries topped with pulled pork, cheddar, and coleslaw which was good as well). It also came with soup so I ordered the cream of mushroom based on our waitresses suggestion and I was happy with the choice. I went to Colonial Diner for lunch and was not impressed by the food. My chicken avocado sandwich has a lot of lettuce and little chicken. We ordered a side dish of onion rings, and the plate looked so empty because there weren't that many. The service was horrible. It wasn't busy but we had to wait 15 minutes for our food. When we requested the check, we waited another 10 minutes. There was no refill of our drinks. To make matters worse, he gave the checks to 3 other patrons near my table ( who ordered food after us) and did not give us our check. He was going to the table next to us to take an order, and I had to request our check again. No apologies. I will never come back here because of the lousy service. read more

We stopped here after doing family portraits with our photographer that lives in nutley. The kids and husband wanted burgers and I wanted a generous salad--got a cheeseburger on the kids menu, my husband ordered the bbq burger and I got the Southwest salad. The service is top notch here--the host, server and busboys are super friendly and extremely attentive! Our hostess chatted with the kiddos and the host gave my daughter a coloring book and box of crayons. Unfortunately, I have to give a lower rating, as our food was kind of...tasteless. My husband had to add salt to his burger and I kept adding salt to my salad and grilled shrimp but it never really helped. I also felt like our meals were on the expensive side--my salad, one burger and 2 kids meals were $50! On a positive note, I will say the children's portions are extremely generous, I would recommend ordering one for two toddlers and having them share. Utter okay customer service. 6 cars came and went while I'm here. The only reason why this diner get any business is because it's close by and convenient. One of my favorite diners all around. It has a classic diner feel to it. I usually go for breakfast and it never disappoints. The food is great, staff is friendly, and service is prompt. This time around I got the Cuban Panini with fries, it was delicious although I couldnt finish it. I was expecting a smaller size but this was a loaded panini. My girlfriend got the chicken francese, a little hesitant at first to get that from a diner but she loved it. The sauce was excellent. Diner food that I have been longing and craving for so long with one key ingredient, quality. Clean, bright 50's interior where the locals come and the staff knows your name. Wow! When you walk into the restaurant you can see the cook in the back well when I was sitting down eating with my 3 best friends we heard him coughing uncontrollably hacking up flem for about 5mins straight and he was the only one there cooking the food and out waitress was sneezing as well. There were a good amount of flys flying around and the vegetable soup the first time I had it had potatoes in it then the 2nd time I had it when I picked up food to go had soggy noodles and it was full of celery so, obviously they just throw anything that's leftover into the soup. It just really grossed out me and my 3 girlfriends and I. This is insane and dont waste your money if you're going to eat at a diner go to a diner that is clean and has a cook that IS NOT sick. My family and I stopped at Colonial Diner last night for a family dinner. The restaurants COVID protocol is TOP notch. They ask you to please wait in a designated area, before you're able to be seated. At the designated area you have to use hand sanitizer (that they supply) and temperature check (that they take). You're then seated. Right now with holidays, it looks like a Christmas wonderland! Junior, who used to own another great restaurant in Lynhurst, told me his niece decorated the whole diner! It looked beautiful! The food was SO good! I had banana, pecan, pancakes that were fluffy and amazing. Our server was great but the best was the company. Junior was so nice, talked to me about the diner, and where I was from. I loved the atmosphere, staff, and food. 12/10 would recommend! read more

No cheap, thin ham slices here but instead the thick, juicy perfectly grilled chicken breast comes topped with thick, off the bone ham! Onion rings were fresh out the fryer! Chicken noodle soup is also good as are the fries. Meals are big, prices are more than fair, and service is great. Can't really ask for any more than that! I have only ever gotten breakfast sandwiches to go here. Nice people on the phone. I usually was in and out in 2 minutes. I chose to eat in today. I had a short wait for a table. The waitress was timely and nice. I ordered French toast deluxe which included 6 1/2 slices of French toast, bacon, sausage and 2 eggs. When the French toast arrived it was slathered in powdered sugar. WHAT!! It didn't say so on the menu. The waitress was clearly irritated that I asked her to take it back. I waited and waited for my non- sugared French toast. The next dish had two very clearly burned pieces which were placed burnt side down of course. And the top side was under done. I was not happy but I was hungry and picked around the French toast and was glad I had sausage and eggs to fall back on. I suggest they add that pancakes, waffles and French Toast come with powdered sugar. It's so unnecessary. The eggs, bacon and sausage were prepared well. I've only had breakfast at this diner, but no matter what I've ordered. It's always been delicious.

We had just arrived in Lyndhurst after a long drive from KY. I found Colonial Diner on Yelp as someplace close to the hotel we were staying. I like the wide variety on the menu and good pricing. It is a 50-60s style diner. The staff was very nice and the manager came around to check on us a couple of times. The size of the place is deceptive in that there is seating all around to the side which we did not realize until leaving. You can pretty well order anything, the menu is huge. I had the special appetizer of the day which was fries topped with shredded BBQ, coleslaw and cheese. Yum! and it was huge, plenty for a meal. My daughter had a club sandwich was looked very good. My son a grilled cheese which came with plenty of fries and my husband a cheeseburger which he said was very good. There were many first responders eating here so we knew it must be good. We will definitely stop back in the next time we are in town. read more

The best dinner in the area in my opinion. Their is never a time that i go in here and don't see it full or busy. They are open 24/7 and have great soups. My newest discover comes from their specials menu called the south jersey fries. I get it every time i go now. It's fries topped with coleslaw and pulled pork with some melted cheese on top. This combo blows minds and I wish they would start putting the pulled pork on other parts of the menu seeing as it's so good. Was waiting for takeout and a girl touched money , touched the screen grabbed 4 white toast and put it in the toaster went to go grab food and put it in a bag then went back and touched the screen then grabbed the toast put butter on it and wrapped it up . If this doesn't scream unsanitary to you then I'm not sure , Im disgusted. read more
