It was around 9am and my flight to Durango had just landed. My sister and her boyfriend (who are local to Durango) said this would be the best place we could possibly go for breakfast. After a short wait (you just have to walk in and write your name on a list) we were seated. The menu had a large selection and the service was good. The Benedict section of the menu definitely caught my attention as I am a big Eggs Benedict fan! I ordered the Anasazi Benedict which consisted of the standard english muffin, ham, eggs & hollandaise, but with a twist of green chilies added to the dish. I also requested some avocado slices on my dish as well. It was absolutely fantastic! Well balanced flavor, prepared properly and the "home fries" (giant chunks of potatoey hash browns) were also incredible! For a quick, slap it on the plate, hole in the wall, rustic mountain diner type establishment, this place truly knows what it is doing! My family and I were looking for a hot, delicious breakfast on a cold weekend morning and we found it at College Drive Cafe. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a meal at this fine restaurant. I enjoyed a breakfast burrito of chicken, beans, scrambled eggs and avocado, smothered in generous Hollandaise sauce and Monterey Jack cheese, with home fries on the side. The College Drive Cafe is a bit off of Main Street but worth the small walk. You might have to wait a bit but that is ok because the endless cup of coffee is available to you. We had the Southern Benedict and Anasazi Benedict both were delicious! Although, if your from New Mexico and you see it comes with red or green chili don't get to excited because it definitely isn't hot or flavorful. The wait staff are friendly, attentive and very busy. They are able to turn tables over quickly but yet not make you feel rushed. If your looking for a nice, "home cooking" type of breakfast or brunch The College Drive Cafe is worth a try! read more

The One Where Sandy and Siblings Brunch Before Skiing. I love breakfast food and when I find a place where the reviews are high and the venue is ONLY open for breakfast/brunch/lunch... I think I've struck gold! There was a lil' wait because the place is small and super cozy. The menu was full of options! They had a scramble section, benedicts, omelets, specials, egg-less, etc. I finally decided on the F.L.C scramble, which was diced chicken with tomato and mushrooms scrambled with eggs and topped with cheese. It was DELISH! It also comes with a carb of your choice and I got their buttermilk biscuit. I don't know how they do it, but Durango's got the best biscuits I've ever had! Their home-style potatoes were amazing and filled up half your plate. I wasn't able to finish mine. What's not to miss is their strawberry jam that is already on your table. I can be wrong, but it looks homemade (and is absolutely amazing!). Since all the reviews raved about their pancakes, I had to order their blueberry pancakes. Luckily I did because they were a hit! It was cooked perfectly with a bit of a slight crunchiness at the edge. Very fluffy and the blueberries were plentiful. My sister ordered their biscuits and gravy and loved it. I was able to sample a few bites and I have to say... they know how to make a good sausage gravy. Overall, very satisfying meal. I thought everything was bigger in Texas, but the portion size here is about similar to ours. Friendly folks and trust me when I say this is one breakfast joint you shouldn't miss out on! read more

At first glance I would have given this burrito a 6/10 for the way the cheese was shredded on top and un-melted. 7/10 for green chille to burrito ratio. Still skeptic, I took a bite... Suddenly my sense of self completely dissolved.. I was then only aware of the burrito. I was trying to keep my body siting up right the whole time. Finally I snapped out of it. This place is GREAT! My husband got tamales and eggs - and no I had never heard of this together and he said it was one of the best dishes he had ever had! I had breakfast here again after a nice early morning drive through the mountains. This place is off the main drag in Durango but is not hard to find. The parking lot was full when I arrived, but there was plenty of street parking. This was the second time I have been here, having made a point of timing my drive so my arrival would fit their hours. Lots of tables were occupied inside, but I found a nice spot and settled in (by the time I left, the place was full with lots of locals doing business and some tourists savoring life). This place makes an excellent red chile sauce, so I checked the menu with that in mind and ordered the Red and Green Chile Omelette. It was a great choice. The omelette came stuffed with chopped green chiles. The chile was not hot, but had full chile flavor. The omelette was drenched in red chile sauce. The sauce was rich, had some heat but not overwhelming, and provided a full, round taste of red chile. The home fries were nicely prepared, but they had no chance of shining next to that awesome omelette. Service was efficient and pleasant. Setting was charmingly rustic. The pan fried potatoes were very good but honestly they were the least exciting of the whole meal. The little girl at the adjacent table had pancakes also. Came on a Wednesday morning, I had the 2 chicken chili tamale with over-easy eggs, beans, 2 pancakes. First, off the pancakes are delicious! Huge and buttery, with a light creamy taste but don't become sweet mash cakes like other restaurants. The eggs were a little over cooked, somewhat cold, but nice. The green chili came from a can and was not spicy, at all. The tamales, were typical and generic (I come from a Pueblo tribe) so I expect better. Beans and the garnish of tomatoes and lettuce both needed some salt or seasoning. The servers and staff were beyond amazing however. They lighten the mood and warm you with a smile. Breakfast is exceptional for the cost and I will be returning for those pancakes and to try their hollandaise. read more
