Came for Saturday brunch. Great service from hostess to server to manager rounding to make sure everyone had what they needed and that things were going well. The pimento cheese with tomato jam was delicious and a great starter to share. The crab benny was tasty and fresh. My only complaint is that they do not poach their eggs. The place is clean and leans into the modern southern aesthetic. read more

Colleen's is a very cute place with many tempting items on the menu. They have validated parking which is a plus. From the moment we were seated, the server was very attentive. They have booths that look super cozy with fluffy pillows. The food came out fast. The pimento cheese starter was fabulous. I couldn't stop eating it! Def have to mix in the jam! I also ordered a spirit free drink that was ginger based. It was a little on the sweeter side, but good for the price point. I ordered the biscuit, which was ok. My egg was a little burnt and the biscuit was a bit too cooked for my liking, but it was satisfying for the portion I was looking for. I would def give it a chance. My friend had a plate that looked great too! So just find your palate is craving! It's also in a great area of shops and such, so if you want to do some walking before or after, it's great for that! read more

I came in town for the Madonna concert on Monday night and we chose here to have dinner beforehand . The host was outstanding. He was so friendly and outgoing. He did a nice menu tour after he seated us . The restaurant is darling . It's decorated in a cute 1940s cottage style . There are tons of old wedding pictures and vintage cake toppers paired with depression glass . The menu is small but precise. It hits all the vest southern dishes but does them with a modern take . We started with the crab fritters which were excellent. I had a nice grits and butternut squash dish. My friend had the redfish which looked amazing. The cocktail list was really nice and used all the local spirits. I had a fantastic bourbon coffee cocktail in a coupe glass that woke me right up . The bar area looked fun and I'd go back to have a cocktail and an appetizer. read more

My friend and I grabbed a patio table, I'd recommend. The biscuit + tomato jam starter gave what I wanted it to give. The biscuits? V good. I had the crab cake benny, which was good, but the potatoes my fave part of the plate. My friend let the waiter pick for her, and he came through with the chicken & waffles. No regrets. Crispy, flavorful, done right. The apricot punch was thimble sized but tasty. I'd brunch here again read more

We went in for brunch on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed! We were able to be seated immediately because we lucked out on a reservation canceling. The host was so friendly and welcomed us with a smile. They have the scannable barcode menu but since it was a bit packed in here my and my fiancé's phone service wasn't great and they brought us a paper menu no problem. I ordered the iced tea, the Colleen's house punch and the Colleen's Cobb salad off their weekend brunch menu. My fiancé ordered a mezcal margarita (off menu as they have a full bar) and the avocado toast. The iced tea was refreshing and came with a lemon wedge and an optional sweetener on the side. Our waiter Josh so attentive and provided wonderful service, assured us our drinks were on the way after only a few minutes, and the drinks came very quickly. My fiancé loved his margarita and my punch was tiny but mighty and was delicious for only $5 that's a steal. Josh provided such great service, he was one of the most attentive waiters I've ever had. 5 star service! The salad was the most beautiful salad I've ever had and it was so fresh and delicious! The eggs had a bit too much mustard for my taste but were still pretty good. Unisex bathrooms very well stocked and clean. I'll definitely be back! read more

I feel like Colleen's is very under rated. Since it's not right down town I don't think a lot of people know of it/ think of it as an option. They have the most yummy food. I have been here on several occasions for dinner. Every time I order the buttermilk biscuits. They are so good especially with the honey butter! The green goddess salad and chicken pot pie is also very yummy and filling. Overall love this place and recommend! read more

I was in Austin for a business meeting and took my team of 18 here for dinner. We had the private room which at times got a little loud but was otherwise perfect. Rachel and Abigail were our servers and did a great job. They accommodated request for a vegetarian in the group and took care of a tiny issue with an entree. Overall the food was excellent. The biscuits and the corn bread are a must have! We started with the bacon wrapped dates, fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs - all were excellent! For entrees we chose the steak and frites, chicken and shrimp and grits and again all good! The peanut butter pie was my favorite and the banana pudding was hit with the group. I would highly recommend and would return if I made it back to Austin. read more

Really hip fun place with home style cooking with a twist of modern. Everything we had we liked. Cheesy grits, fried chicken, deviled eggs, roasted cabbage, fun drink list, and OMG the biscuits!!! We will definitely back. Service was average but the hostess noticed we needed help and made up for it. read more

Met some friends here for brunch over the weekend. It took maybe 30-45 min to get a table outside which wasn't too bad since we were a large group. Service was good. I understand now why everybody raves about the biscuits. They were delicious. The Cobb salad was just ok. The lettuce was slightly wilted and there was way too much dressing. A good option for brunch in the area. read more

While visiting Austin for a long weekend, I had dinner at Colleen's Kitchen with my cousins who live in the area. We made reservations which is pretty much a must due to the size of the place. It's super cute and they offer indoor and outdoor seating. Our server was Kailee and she was super great. My cousin's often get takeout from Colleen's kitchen, but this was their first time dining in and they were glad they did. Their menu had good looking options, from delicious looking appetizers, to robust salads and yummy entrees. We decided to just order entrees this evening. They both got the Steak Frites, I had the Pan Roasted Airline Chicken and their little one had the kid's Hamburger Meal. The food came out in a decent amount of time. Everyone enjoyed each bite of their meal. I never ever order roasted chicken and mashed potatoes, and I'm so glad I did, my meal was delicious. The flavors meshed together so well, and the gravy was a perfect touch. I needed a break from beef and pork. No one had room for dessert, but they had great options. I enjoyed dining at Colleen's Kitchen. It has a nice cozy, home feeling, with a southern comfort menu. read more

Pretty tasty! We were able to make a quick reservation for this place the day of. The inside was breezy and beautiful. We started with biscuits with jam which were excellent. I went with the shrimp and grits for dinner which was tangy, but I kind of wished the shrimp were cooked better. Still good! We finished with this odd two layer chocolate chip cookie which was excellent. The service was ok. It wasn't bad, but it could have been better, especially when we needed extra plates. I would return! read more

Do yourself a favor and make sure you grab some biscuits from here, no matter what else you plan on eating. The biscuits are fresh and so delicious. Everyone made sure to have some at our table. I enjoyed the Colleen's Cobb salad too. It was a nice light brunch but also comes with three deviled eggs to add a little extra substance to the salad. This is a great brunch spot and everything I tried was tasty. read more

Colleen's is my family's favorite brunch spot in the Mueller area! We love to go after visiting the Thinkery or the lake/park. The food is so fresh and flavorful! Southern food at its best. My favorite item is the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken is cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crunch, and the waffle is to die for! The waffle is also shaped like the state of TX - super cute and creative! My husband got the shrimp and grits and absolutely loved his dish as well! I also appreciate the kid friendly atmosphere (+ dining options) and the classy mid-century modern decor + furniture. Definitely make a reservation as this place gets crowded fast especially on weekends! read more

Ambiance: Tucked away in the Mueller neighborhood, next to Alamo draft house, you'll find this lively, airy restaurant. The place was buzzing. Great layout and beautiful decor. Service: Our server was good, we had a party of five and he handled us with ease. He gave honest recommendations and was VERY accommodating to our requests. The goods: We had the Mule, and margaritas to start. The menu didn't mention tajin rims, so we swapped for sugar. For the entrees we had the fried chicken and shrimp and grits. Everything was delicious. The chicken was well seasoned and crispy, the Brussels sprouts were delicious. The shrimp and grits needed more sauce but were still good. We will definitely be back for brunch! read more

This was an OK to Good lunch experience. I was told by a work colleague that I must order the shrimp & grits. Silly me I was persuaded to order the fried chicken instead. The fried chicken was delicious. It was not batter-heavy and the chicken was moist. Now, the biscuit gravy was just bland and did not compliment the chicken. I should asked for pepper and salt to spruce it up. My collared green side was plentiful and good (you can easily split sides). I did clean my plate! There was a bed of cold green beans and to be honest there was minimal taste and I would not have been disappointed if the chef had forgotten to plate them. Colleen's has a good selection of local craft beer options and interesting craft cocktails. Lastly, service was great and I do plan to return for (not a spoiler alert) their shrimp and grits and a craft cocktail or two. read more

Colleen's Kitchen - Southern Near Me - Austin, Texas

This review has been sitting in my drafts since early 2022. So, in the spirit of spring cleaning, I am cleaning out my drafts (you should, too)! Colleen's Kitchen is a southern inspired restaurant delivering refined yet uncomplicated fare. Colleen's Kitchen channels the spirit of a favorite aunt who created joy in every moment - unattached to preconceived notions and unfettered by convention. The last time I was here, I came with two other people for some shareable bites and cocktails. So, let's do this, shall we? Bacon-wrapped dates Bacon and Medjool dates are a brilliant pairing: The bacon is crisp and salty, and the date is chewy and deeply sweet. You could just stop there, of course, but adding in a soft blue cheese -- sharp and spicy -- adds another layer of texture and flavor and brings the two salty-sweet extremes together. As appetizers go, these are rich and substantive! Well done! Deviled Eggs I feel like I shouldn't have to explain this, but someone DID ask me what these eggs were after I posted another review about these types of eggs. Therefore, I will explain this time (and this time only), the term 'deviled' refers to something that is highly seasoned with spiciness or tang. Deviled eggs are the same thing as stuffed eggs or dressed eggs. It's essentially eggs that have been hard-boiled, peeled, cut in half, and stuffed with a classic mixture of the cooked yolks mashed together with mayo, mustard, and spices (typically paprika). Class dismissed! These bacon deviled eggs are the ultimate deviled eggs, which combined Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper and, of course, crispy bacon bits. Service The bartender we had was named Malcolm. I know my folks who read my reviews are thinking, "How did you recall a bartender's name from a year ago?" It's because I said something in French to one of the people I was with, and he responded to what I said in French, then we (Malcolm and I ) proceeded to have a full conversation in French. Merci Malcolm pour la conversation. Price For the area, the price was on-par, BUT that does not mean the prices were reasonable. This is my only nit-pick about this place. Otherwise, this location is definitely worth a try. read more

I would recommend this place for a brunch with friends or even a brunch date. It's extremely cute, with decor that is mostly thrifted by the owner! They offer southern food like chicken and waffles, grits, biscuits, etc. The chicken and waffles come with a Texas-shaped waffle and incredible bourbon maple butter. I also recommend ordering the bacon-wrapped dates as a starter. It's a small serving, probably best for 2 people, but the dates are delicious. The food was good but what really impressed me was the drink selection! They have a variety of creative brunch drinks. Get dressed up and come for a cute little meal! read more

My First at Colleen's! Big tip- if you can't find parking there is a garage literally right next to the restaurant. The atmosphere is really nice- they had a nice playlist going. Staff was really nice and moderately attentive. I had the breakfast which was good. I am usually a sweet grits girl BUT the grits here were really good. I did not love the sausage gravy-not sure what was off but it was a no for me. Overall it was a great experience and I will definitely go back...i just wish it was bone in chicken for the chicken and waffles read more

Pleasant enough. But too hit or miss to be any kind of destination. If you are stopping for lunch, there are about five strong competing places within two or three doors of Colleen's Kitchen. * * * The high variability of this place means you almost have to rate each item individually. So here goes. * Fried Chicken - Three Stars. Moist. Pleasant. Not especially flavorful. But I was happy to have it. * Biscuit Gravy for said Fried Chicken - One Star. Absolutely tasteless. There is a reason that Southern Cooks use a lot of salt and black pepper in a gravy. Going yuppie and going light on the salt and black pepper totally kills the dish. * Carrots - Five Stars Fantabulous. They use multiple colors of carrots and just get a ton of flavor. I couldn't identify what other ingredients gave the carrots their oomph - but there was plenty of oomph. * Collard Greens - Four stars Their version uses a ton of sugar. It is like putting sugar on spinach to get kids to eat it. I can be bribed. * Green Beans - One Star Tasteless. Wasn't sure if I was eating asparagus or green beans. But it didn't matter, because I was eating green columns that had no recognizable flavor. * Service - Five Stars Mega-nice people. * * * The city of Austin does not have a lot of credible Southern style diners. I like Cafe 1431 in Cedar Park. That however is its own place with its own original dish menu. It is more Southern inspired than traditional Southern. (The original dishes totally rock though.) Threadgill's pretended to be Southern but was far more awful than people liked to admit. Colleen's Kitchen does not fill the void. But if you were to eat here enough, you would find the dishes that were good. Or you could talk to your very nice and helpful waitstaff and ask them to bring you a salt shaker and a pepper shaker. Massive salt and pepper won't take care of all of the problems here, but will help on some items. read more

Came here for happy hour with a friend last night and we tried the fried green tomatoes and crispy brussel sprouts. Both were good, I had never had fried green tomatoes before so I have nothing to compare them to but I think they were good just maybe not my thing. Alrighty, I first gotta say that the Happy Hour here is pretty darn great! Between the drink and food deals, it's solid. Of course I had to try all three biscuits, because it's me. So here are my thoughts on each: Fried chicken biscuit: best one by far. The batter has a fantastic flavor and is the perfect crunch. It's not overpowering and greasy, and complements the juicy chicken inside. This one is a must. Country ham biscuit: this one is exactly as you would think it is. It's good, not great, but good enough. I think it's a good normal biscuit. Fried tomato biscuit: I think I would have liked this one more with less pimento cheese. It was essentially a pimento cheese biscuit. So if that's your thing, then you will be hyped. But it was mine unfortunately. Regardless everything was pleasant here and I def recommend their happy hour! read more

This was a diamond in the dirt that I found when I was looking online for soul food on Trip advisor. This hidden gem is located in the Muller shopping strip surrounded by other restaurants and entertainment.. I ordered the buttermilk chicken, deviled Eggs and Mac and cheese and collards greens. The deviled Eggs were my favorite, and I dare to say they were some the best deviled Eggs that I've eaten.. The Mac & cheese was not far behind the deviled Eggs, the greens were very good as well... As for the service it gets 2 thumbs downs because the reason being is that when I walked in I felted as if I wasn't welcome, it felted more like I was walking into an establishment that wasn't for me. I say that because when I walked in there was a guy that greeted me who was pleasant and friendly and after explaining my issue with placing an order online two other guys came around as if I was about to become a problem, they didn't say anything or ask any questions. I felt as if I was in a retail store being confronted by loss prevention.... I tried placing an order online 2 times and both times, the order said confirmed but never got any confirmation.....It was very frustrating and inconvenient because I had timed it out and ended up waiting 25 minutes... So that would be the reason for the 2 star rating because of the service, the food was good though. read more

If you do not review all charges when paying, you'll not see this. I did not see it until I reviewed my receipt after leaving.
