    Grilled Dourado
    Steve V.

Recommended by my hotel for its authentic Portuguese food. Ordered the grilled sea bass and grilled dourada. Both cooked to perfection. Dourado was bonier. Passed on the cod croquettes. Enjoyed the table bread. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Dining room was brightly lit and attractive. May return soon.

I went to this place on the recommendation of the person who checked me in at my hotel. It was on the late side on a Monday night (close to 9 PM) and I asked what was available for dinner that was open until at least 11 PM. She told me about this place and said they offered good Portuguese fare. She was absolutely correct. The storefront was unobtrusive but not too difficult to locate. Even though the facility was spacious, it was still rather crowded when I walked in despite the late hour. Nonetheless, I was able to be seated. English was not a problem in placing my order. I will say something about the service that I have noticed in Europe, but not often in the US. Most of the time in the US, I get younger, inexperienced people waiting on me. In Europe, at places such as this, I have had experienced wait staff who are clearly professionals, and very good at what they do. That was the case here as my waiter did an excellent job. The menu was largely Portuguese and there were several interesting choices. I had the shrimp croquettes as an appetizer, which served as a nice starter. I chose the shrimp in curry sauce for my main, which was very good. In general, I was quite happy with the quality of my fare. With food and drinks, the bill was €27.50. This was just over $30 USD with the conversion at the time. This was quite reasonable considering the quality of the fare. If you are in the neighborhood and are interested in Portuguese fare, this is a good bet.

    Portuguese Sirloin steak.

Nice restaurant. Good service, good food and nice ambiance. The beef steak was incredible. I had Portuguese style, my wife had grilled. Both were excellent along with the fried potatoes. We had the flan for desert it too was excellent. I viewed several other meals, fish, potatoes and vegetables and another dish looked amazing with a variety of fish and seafood.

Great ambiance. The waiter was very friendly and efficient. We had the garlic shrimp which was to die for and a seafood platter. Very quaint and friendly place.

I would give this place 4.5 stars if I could. The food was authentic and I want to say old school style freshly prepared. We had the mixed grilled seafood platter for two and the fried hake filets and they were absolutely delishous. I have to warn that the service is a little rough around the edges; could be that they know that they are good and maybe a little prideful, but once you get past that you are good to go.

We ate here on our first night in Lisbon. The menu is primarily fish and meat with one vegetarian item - a vegetable soup. This was quite good. The others in my party had various types of fish were very happy. The cod was maybe a little weak. The salmon and the golden something or other (recommended by the waiter) was said to be excellent. The vegetable sides that each of the people in my party were very good and, hopefully, could be ordered off menu for a vegetarian meal. Over all the food here seemed excellent and the atmosphere was joyous. A very popular place. Be aware that everything laid out on the table, the bread, cheese, even the little packet of sardine pate, will be tallied up and charged to your bill at the end of the meal.

The owner is the one-woman show for this place. She's eccentric, in a good way. She is balancing a whole act here. She let us snag a table right at 18:30 but told us we had to be done by 19:00 since that's when the next reservation was. No prob! We placed our order for a mixed plate 1 + small sides of garlic rice and mashed potatoes. We saw a fam roll in, a group of four, and they had reservations. However, they didn't vibe with the owner and mistook her eccentricity for unwelcoming vibes - she did recommend them a nice table service serving similar foods up the street. Anyway, she called us over to pick up our orders to bring them to our tables. It was so yummy! A bit salty for our liking, but we were happy to try out her food. Her sauces are delicious and good to pour over the garlic rice. If you don't have reservations, there is always take-away as an option. Bon appetit

Squid here was delicious, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and a bunch of it. Great potatoes to go with it, too. I'd eat here every day if I could. The "couvert" was fish pate from a tin, not made in-house, but it's Portugal, so the tinned fish was still great, obviously. The olives with it were just ok, but the bread was great. I was also happy that they did, indeed, understand that we were going to share it, but only wanted a couvert plate serving for one (I hadn't been sure.) I was a little sad my wife really wanted red meat that day, so we couldn't get the seafood sampler platter for 2, but her pork chop was also great, I know because it was also huge, so I ended up eating like a third of it. Also perfectly cooked and seasoned, and it did go great with fries. The fries were also great, too, super freshly made and perfectly crispy, though the one downside, everything else but the fries were ready super quickly, then the fries showed up after we were about halfway done eating the rest of it. Definitely freshly cooked, though! Also unlike the place the previous day that served us exceptionally mediocre squid the previous day, they also sell very affordable wines here. They have a good number of extremely reasonably priced half-bottles of all types, but we didn't need a whole half-bottle of wine, so I just got a glass of the house white, which was, at least as of a couple months ago, only 2.5 euros! Seriously, I'd come here all the time if I could.I wish I had gotten to try everything on the menu.

I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.
