Colina is open, so we decided to try it. It is walking distance from our hotel, it was very bright inside, and friendly staff. We were greeted immediately and offered two seat options. Food: ordered hake and sea bass. The hake was interesting served with fish biting its own tale and might freak some people out. The sea bass was served whole filleted. The fish were good but the sides were inedible. The rice was watery and tasted like can baked beans were added. The potatoes were cold and the broccoli was overcooked and cold. Got to Lisbon late afternoon and wanted a quick early dinner before we crash for the night and found this restaurant. What a lucky find. The staff was getting ready for dinner service. There were 4 tables of early diners. Our waiter was very nice. We had a bottle of house white, grilled sea bass, octopus salad, and a Spanish tortilla. Everything was very delicious. Welcoming and hardworking staff. We are a large group of travelers so credit goes to them for hosting us. Hard to comment on the restaurant's atmosphere, as we were in their upstair private party room not the main area for patrons on the ground level. I wasn't to thrilled with the main dinner offering due to the way it was prepared. The battered hake fish was not crispy on the outside. And rather bland in taste. The lemony flavored rice side wasn't bad in taste but mushy. Hake is in the cod family of fish. Cod is famous in Portugal, a staple. CoD is famously prepared in the form of Bacalhau (salted cod, potatoes, eggs, onion, garlic, olives, chopped parsley). This wasn't bacalhau. I went to this place on the recommendation of the person who checked me in at my hotel. It was on the late side on a Monday night (close to 9 PM) and I asked what was available for dinner that was open until at least 11 PM. She told me about this place and said they offered good Portuguese fare. She was absolutely correct. The storefront was unobtrusive but not too difficult to locate. Even though the facility was spacious, it was still rather crowded when I walked in despite the late hour. Nonetheless, I was able to be seated. English was not a problem in placing my order. I will say something about the service that I have noticed in Europe, but not often in the US. Most of the time in the US, I get younger, inexperienced people waiting on me. In Europe, at places such as this, I have had experienced wait staff who are clearly professionals, and very good at what they do. That was the case here as my waiter did an excellent job. The menu was largely Portuguese and there were several interesting choices. I had the shrimp croquettes as an appetizer, which served as a nice starter. I chose the shrimp in curry sauce for my main, which was very good. In general, I was quite happy with the quality of my fare. With food and drinks, the bill was €27.50. This was just over $30 USD with the conversion at the time. This was quite reasonable considering the quality of the fare. If you are in the neighborhood and are interested in Portuguese fare, this is a good bet. read more

The others in my party had various types of fish were very happy. The cod was maybe a little weak. The salmon and the golden something or other (recommended by the waiter) was said to be excellent. The vegetable sides that each of the people in my party were very good and, hopefully, could be ordered off menu for a vegetarian meal. Awesome food and great prices. Our hotel recommended Colina, so I read a few reviews and, even though the reviews were 3.5 stars, decided to give it a try. I truly don't know how this hasn't received consistent 4 and 5 star ratings. The bacalau was delicious so we came back a second night and tried the shrimp curry (grouper and shrimp with rice in a mild curry sauce) - delicious! The place isn't all that captivating from the outside and much less inside. Nonetheless, the food is outstanding! The Bacalahau no Churrasco and Sirloin Portuguese style were like heaven! Each bread and cheese plate ...and each single butter and anchovy spread in the container will be charged. So right away tell the waiter to take away all the items you don't want. This is my favorite restaurant in Lisbon. Try the octopus Lagareiro or the Bacalhau à Minhota and you'll be amazed by the Portuguese cuisine flavors that you can fit in one dish only. Upon arriving in Lisbon, we were referred to this restaurant. All four of us ordered the Beef "Portuguese Style" with potato chips. We all agree that it was the best steak we have ever had. Garlic, wine, and olive oil or butter. So simple and yet so delicious. When I return to Lisbon, I will come to have this steak. I could have done without the potatoes. This came as a recommendation from the Sheraton Hotel Lisboa in town. I am always leery of hotel recommendation because I sometimes find that they usually send "tourists" to the same place. Just a short walk from the Sheraton we were pleasantly surprised by this location which seems to cater to locals in the area. If you are not familiar with "bread and cheese", this will be on your table and is not free. Neither is the cheese. We sent back one of the items because we didn't want it. Don't be afraid to send it all back. These are considered small plates.We wanted to start with a grilled sardine appetizer which they happily made. Lightly grilled sardines with lemon and olive oil, very tender flesh. We then shared a mixed salad with olive oil. My hubs had the Portuguese style steak which was absolutely delicious with the garlic wine sauce. Probably the best we had in the city. I could have eaten that for days. I opted for the half roasted chicken was also good. The "chips" or fries were also delicious. But what you MUST have is the Almond meringue dessert. It's this ginormous fluffy thing in the cooler by the wine/barista guy. It is an amazing dessert topped with a creme anglaise. Really unique and delicious. I only wish I found this place sooner. The sirloin steak Portuguese style is out of this world. Granted, it probably won't enthuse hard core steak connoisseurs but to those who appreciate a decent steak, it is absolutely delicious. The restaurant was recommended by our hotel so we decided to check it out on yelp before coming. For the most part the reviews stated the food was good and a couple gave the heads up about them charging for the bread and cheese that was on the table. We get to the restaurant and sure enough all the tables had bread and cheese so we steered away because they literally charge you for every single peace that you touch. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING!! Cannot deny the food was bomb! However, I think because we are tourist they put a couple things on our table (some croquettes and dessert wine) making it seem like it was on the house. We barely touched one of each and they ended up charging us for it. I would have definitely paid for it but the way they went about it left a nasty taste in our mouths and we just paid for the one instead for the whole party. Not cool.
