This store has a nice selection of Mexican ingredients. Service is friendlty and the store is interesting. It is unique in Bend.

I found my favorite Mexican market in Central Oregon. I also found my favorite Mexican candy of all time, the slap. I wasn't able to find it in Coachella, CA. But I found it here in Central Oregon! I'm so happy. I found the chiles I plan to use to make tamales for Christmas. I can't wait to go back to shop. read more

Mostly what I expected with an Hispanic market in Bend. Colima is fairly small and has very little produce (I did score some nice serranos) but does have a good selection of canned and dry goods, some which you'll not find in other stores. I came for tortillas and left with quite a bit more than that. read more

For a high desert town of only 77,000 people, Bend is rich with unique places to shop for food products. From natural food stores like Nature's to independent grocer neighborhood markets like Newport Avenue Market to large upscale grocers like Whole Foods to farm to table producers of humanely raised meats like Pono Farms to quirky cult stores like Trader Joes to remarkable artisan bakeries like Village Baker and Sparrow. What Bend mostly lacks is specialty ethnic food markets. But we're fortunate to have a nice little Mexican specialty market in Colima Market. It has a well worn sign painted on the window that says "Su Tienda Latina". Your Latin Store. This a small store, old infrastructure, in a hard to notice location off of Greenwood, around the corner of the building from Bookmark used book store. Unless you're looking for it, you can drive by and not even know it is there. Colima sells mostly packaged goods, not fresh foods, although it does have some fresh produce like cactus, tomatillos, plantains and a variety of fresh chili peppers. It is not a large market, like say the remarkable for all things Latin, Plaza Latina in Eugene. But what makes Colima special is that this is truly a mom and pop grocery operation. The parents / owners and grandmother all work the front of the store, as does their beautiful and poised teen aged daughter. ("That delightful young woman should be on the cover of magazines", says my hubby.) Everyone is so helpful when we're lost in trying to determine what specific ingredient we need, even though we are probably some of the few shoppers who do not speak Spanish. We always feel welcome. Our stops into Colima are typically for dried chilis. Colima has the broadest selection in Bend of fresh dried chilis, in our opinion, both in bags and in bins. NOT an oxymoron - a fresh dried chili should be slightly pliable and aromatic. And these are. When you open the bins the chili aroma is distinct for each variety. There are other specialty items too, including fresh masa in the refrigerated case. The masa is from a Portland area producer. (We were on the hunt for some today, along with dried New Mexico chilis, to make masa dumplings for a lamb and chili stew.) A friend of ours swears by the mole negro paste from a small producer sold in little plastic containers alongside the jars of the mass produced brands. We've never checked out the racks of Spanish language music, movies and magazines in the adjacent room but it looks well stocked. And the grandmother makes good tamales to go (by the half dozen minimum I think). They're not always available, but when they are - yum! Absent the fresh dried chilis and fresh masa and homemade tamales, you can probably find as many Mexican package good staples between the large grocery stores of Fred Meyer and Safeway in Bend as they stock up to meet a growing demand for Mexican food products here. But there is something lost in that for us when we can shop at Colima and support a truly family run business. read more

If you're looking for a local carniceria in Bend Oregon to grab some carne asada to throw on the grill, or marinated chicken, this is your place. Very simple market but excellent meats. This place needs to expand their inventory and it caters mainly to the local Hispanic community. I needed tomatillos and found them here, along with queso fresco and salsa verde but don't expect a full blown out Mexican grocery store. No cilantro & tomatoes were sketchy. Colima Market has been under new ownership for a couple of years, the young lady that works there is very helpful, she is friendly and greeted my family and me when we entered the store. We usually only go there when we need prepared "masa" when we make our Christmas tamales every year, once in a while we will stop in for some Mexican candy for our daughter. The previous owner was a grouchy old lady who was no help at all and she also charge way too much for the masa. Don't worry, the store is much cleaner and no grouchy lady!!!! read more

Sure, all the big grocery stores in town have an aisle for "Hispanic" items, but you'll find a much wider variety and better prices at Colima Market. This is the place to pick up tiny key limes for margaritas, all kinds of cheeses and sour creams, tortillas (or the fresh masa to make your own), candies, cookies, pastries, spices, herbs and other seasonings. They also have Mexican soda, sweetened with sugar instead of corn syrup. I called ahead to see if they even had what I wanted, (picositos, a mexican candy) and the lady who answered didn't really speak english but she was so nice and she tried really hard to find out what I wanted. It was kind of funny because she was being so nice about it and wasn't getting irritated. Anyway, I go down there to get my candy and Holy Smokes it was cheap!! So I ended up buying 3 of them! I also decided to have a look around and see what else they had. They have a great selection of food items and everything in the store has an awesome price on it. I definitely recommend going there! My 4 yr old grand daughter, Audrey, wanted to learn how to make tamales so off we went to search for a Mexican market. Colima Market , not easy to find, was like striking gold. We found everything we needed & a lot more. The atmosphere, the friendly, helpful customer service, the selection & the product quality were above and beyond anything I expected. I live between Sacramento & the Bay area were I shop for Hispanic products, very abundant in this area. I Have never recieved such friendly & personal customer service. The masa was the best I have ever purchased. I liked it so much, I bought 2 packages to freeze & bring back with me. (absolutely delicious) I highly recommend it & will stop by next time I am in Bend. read more

Went into Colima today. For some plantains and other random things. Anyways it's been quite some time I've gone because of their lack of customer service! I read a couple reviews on how awesome and friendly they are, and I don't know if we are at the same place! The last time I was in there was a while ago I noticed the cash register area had moved over. That time I was there the young girl at the cash register didn't say hi or anything just scanned my items and gave me a blank stare when she was finished. Today was pretty much the same. The girl was different as I walked in she was just standing at the counter I walked around with my 3 year old and looked at all the items the store is a little bit different. When I was done I came up to the counter and she was on her phone. Not a store phone, her cell phone. She didn't say hi. Nothing! Again! Different person same lack of customer service! She didn't get off her phone. She kept talking about how slow her day had been. When she was done ringing me up, she pointed at the amount on the cash register. I should have walked out. I handed her my card she swiped. Finished my transaction all while on the phone. If you are running a mom and pop type of store the least you can have is some common courtesy and put the phone down while ringing up a customer. When I got home I looked at my receipt and saw that one of the items I purchased rang up a different price then marked. I thought about going back it was a little over a $1 but really didn't think it was worth it. I will probably not be back again for another few months or I will drive to the next city over and shop there. I thought today would redeem this store from last time but it was pretty much the same bad experience. The only reason they are even getting 2 stars is because they do carry items hard to find or not carried at most grocery stores here in Bend. read more

If your from Southern California where markets like this are in abundance....This is as good as it gets in Bend! Super friendly staff and everything you need to make your own authentic Mexican food at home, since the restaurants around town just aren't the same. Looked everywhere around town for corn husks to make tamales and this place not only has the husks, but if your a tamale beginner, they even have pre-made masa that looks really good! I stopped in for the first time today and walked away with more than intended, but that's the point of going to this place.....dried chiles by the pound (guajillos, californias etc), nice little meat market attached where I picked up some lengua....YUM! looking forward to making some tamales this weekend with the family.
