Did not carry sope shells. That should be a staple for a Mexican market. Can't make sopes without sope shells.

Unique Asian market offering that is much needed in Bend!…read more Love the variety and choices of Japanese food and drink you don't find anywhere else in the city. Only downside and reason why this is 4 star not 5 rating, is the Matcha tea I bought expired months ago (best by date was in June, and we are in October). Unfortunately, this was discovered after I purchased said item and open the bag. So shoppers look for the dates on whatever you are wanting to purchase. Hopefully the market can find a system to check expiration dates for all goods on regular basis, and remove those from the sales floor.

The art on the outside doesn't make you think you're walking into an Asian supermarket. It's very artistic. However, when I actually made my way in I was pleasantly surprised to find a very clean and well stocked little store. It's definitely not your typical Ranch 99 or H-Mart but it serves it purpose for this community. The owners put in a lot of thought about the items they have available. Each aisle has items you can find in Asian homes along with items popular on social media platforms. The "insta-influencer" recipes as I like to call it. The prices are both affordable and pricey depending on what is considered a commodity. I think it's very fair. Also, the produce is fresh. I felt very welcomed every time I walked in because the staff is friendly, patient and knowledgeable. There is a lot of heart curated in this spot and I can't wait to see the ongoing evolution of it. If you're near Fred Meyers or the Reed Market area I highly recommend checking this place out. Give them some love.

Serendipity. Waiting a lengthy time for prescription fill at my local Fred Meyer store, I noted a…read morebig sign near the produce area that said "Murray's is Coming". Wandering over, I found that actually Murray's, as in NYC based (since 1940) Murray's Cheese, has arrived. Now operating the specialty cheese section in several stores in the Kroger companies, of which Fred Meyer is one, the friendly staff behind the counter told me this Bend Fred Meyer store is only the 8th to have Murray's as cheesemonger presence inside a store. (In fact, the arrangement is so new that Oregon isn't listed as having any Murray's locations on the company's website.) It seems the Bend store is still getting the Murray's section fully stocked. But they had a pretty nice selection of cheeses and "go withs" (Beecher crackers and fruit pate as examples) and the staff offered cheese samples if I wanted to try anything. My hubby and I are selective about the cheeses we eat and typically buy them at Whole Foods, where the assortment of artisan cheeses can't be beat and we've come to know the friendly staff well, or at Newport Avenue Market for "ditto". But a big plus for this Murray's is they may be the only cheesemonger or specialty market in Bend to carry the remarkably, addictingly good Boat Street Pickles (a Seattle company) pickled fruit that is so wonderful with cheese (and other things). http://www.boatstreetpickles.com/index.html In fact, they were literally putting the Boat Street Pickle jars on the shelf yesterday as we plucked them off. These pickled delights are more chutney-esque in flavor but less sweet and more complex. On the shelf yesterday were pickled (whole black mission) figs, (golden) raisins, (whole) french plums and (chopped) apricots. The latter two went home with us and the apricot was the perfect "go with" for labneh and flat bread for a no cook summer dinner. Having tried all of these Boat Street Pickle products since first being introduced to them by a winery's tasting room staff some months ago and being smitten with them all, I am grateful to have a source for them in Bend. Just a heads up for Yeeps and other Peeps that there is are new reasons to brave the parking lot at Bend's Fred Meyer. Murray's Cheese and Boat Street Pickles. By the way, the latter make a lovely yet thrifty ($7.99) gift for any time of year. Hint.

Ton of specialty items I usually would have to trek into Newport Market for. The bakery had marionberry pies, there is a deli section, and they have organic options! Lots of fruits, veggies plus plenty of gluten free choices too. The store was really really clean with a nice atmosphere and similar aesthetic to Market of Choice but seems to provide more value and less stress. The best part was my cashier Judy! She was genuinely nice to me, I had a great customer service experience with her. She really made me feel that local true community feeling, honestly how it should be. She was so nice when I mentioned it was my first time - she truly authentically welcomed me with such a kind tone and even walked me through signing up for their points system (much better than Market of Choice coupons this actually adds up toward your grocery bill)!!! We chatted about the store and its history a bit which was cool. I walked away feeling like wow, that was a nice experience! Rare these days even in Bend. This is a sleeper hit for me and is going to be my new go to. I told her I will definitely be back and I will. Highly recommend, customer service means a lot to me and I truly had a positive experience.
