House salad with Turkey and avocado
Cindy C.

We are so weird! Our most memorable food in Hawaii was from here. We were driving around the island headed to Hilo and stopped here for a coffee break and decided we might as well get some food too. Coffee was so so, but the breakfast sandwich and house salad with Turkey and avocado was so yummy, fresh and absolutely divine. Its a small hole in the wall place and this place was packed. The staff were friendly as well. Only draw back was no restrooms here. Porta potty outside. Come on!! Would I stop here again? I'll get back to you.

Stopped by Coffee Grinds by accident. On our way to Volcanos National Park, and the family was hungry so we pulled over. We were pleasantly surprised by the smoothies here. Tasty! My son and I got the breakfast burritos. They were good. My wife got a breakfast with eggs (the little square baked eggs that go in the burrito), bacon and toast. She was happy to finally find some breakfast. The area is quite active with the locals. It's a bit of a community center of sorts between Coffee Grinds, the gas station, the post office and the grocery store all right there.

I stopped by and had the breakfast burrito. A friend recommended I try it out and they did not disappoint. They have good food and are conveniently located right off the main road. The service is quick and friendly. Great pit stop for anybody looking for some good eats or just a nice spot for a breakfast on the morning commute!

Friendly Staff and Service at Coffee Grinds!

In Captain Cook; if you want a good breakfast either healthy or hearty or both, stop at this gem of an eatery on the way to Volcano National Park or on the way to Kailua-Kona. The granola with yogurt, local honey and banana was my choice; however, other fresh fruit toppings are also available. My husband loved his BLT on homemade sourdough bread. Coffee is great! We arrived around 11:00 a.m.; but, it soon got busy. There are so many other choices on the menu for breakfast, lunch or other; everything looks good, too! Takeout or sit-down inside or outside available Friendly service. One more thing; remember to close the door on your way in or out - owner wants to keep the AC on :) Very happy to recommend! Were very glad we sought this place out - thanks Yelp!

Stopped here on the way to Kona and was glad we did. It was a nice and quiet place to get some great breakfast. The food was on point and the service was quick and fast.

This is not the real location. The real location is back on the highway. This address will bring you to nothing. Cheers!

Shrimp food truck…read more Negatives -a little pricy, but it depends on what you get. Positives -taste: we got the shrimp sampler. All of the shrimp had amazing flavor and we loved how the rice was drenched in the sauces. The pork was very flavorful as well. Overall 5/5 We enjoyed our food and that was it. Not much to mention about service or ambience, it's a food truck on the side of the road.

We had planned to go to the Punalu'u Bake Shop and this food truck and were pleasantly surprised that they're just across the street from one another! After picking up some malasadas and admiring the garden plants came to this food truck, parked cheerily between a little store and home, with both a shaded eating area and a cornhole games set up in front of it. Unfortunately a few things were out of stock when we visited (no strawberries and burgers I believe) but we were still able to pick up a shrimp sampler plate and acai berry bowl to share (came out to ~$30). While we waited for our order, we enjoyed a spirited game of cornhole! About 15 minutes later our buzzer rang and our order was ready. We took it to the beach nearby to eat. The acai bowl melted quickly and tasted healthier and less sweet than most, if that's your thing! The granola was good. The shrimp plate was yummy with lots of sauce for the rice below (the best bites). We felt that the curry shrimp was the tastiest, the cajun shrimp a bit spicy, and the lemon pepper good but standard. A little fresh salad on the side was a good accompaniment.

After a 20 hour travel day to the Big Island, we landed exhausted, hungry, and honestly a little…read morestressed about how we were going to feed our family that late at night, especially as a vegan family with limited options. We saw that Herbivores was about to close, but the kids really had their hearts set on it. I hesitated to call because I never like arriving right at closing, but I'm so glad I did. When I called, they were incredibly kind and welcoming and told us to come on over, no problem. That simple moment completely changed our night. We rushed from the airport, and when we arrived, Chef Jeffrey and Shawn took such amazing care of us. The food came out quickly, which mattered so much with hungry kids, and everything was absolutely delicious. The Big Mac style burgers and loco moco were exactly what we needed after such a long journey. What truly stood out was the kindness. After our meal, they surprised the kids with free soft serve, and it honestly meant so much. After such a long and tiring day, they did not just serve us dinner, they made us feel welcome, cared for, and part of their ohana. That level of hospitality is something special. You can feel the heart behind this place. If you are on the Kona side and looking for incredible vegan food and genuinely kind people, this is a must visit. We will absolutely be back. Despite everything, he was so kind, welcoming, and genuinely funny. You could tell he really cared about making sure everyone still had a great experience, even under stressful circumstances. It honestly made the whole visit feel extra special. The food was amazing. We had the Big Moke and the burrito, and both were so good. We ended up coming back again later in our trip because we loved it so much. The second time, we got the Caesar salad (which was delicious, though we did feel the extra charge for additional sauce was a bit high), along with the burger again and a smoothie. Overall, such a great experience--amazing vegan food, a welcoming atmosphere, and a chef who truly goes above and beyond. We'll definitely be back!
