    Lilikoi bars are amazing!
    Emily S.

The BEST smoothies on the island! We loved their smoothies so much (and the Lilikoi Dessert Bars) that we visited twice! Smoothies were so packed full of fresh fruit - they are delicious and so nicely priced. We tried the Pineapple Passion Fruit, Pineapple Guava, and Papaya Banana. The best smoothies we've ever had. They have snacks, gifts, macadamia nuts, local products, and tons of fresh fruits in addition to smoothies and sandwiches. The staff was lovely, especially the woman who had fresh flowers in her hair daily.

The fruit just hits different in Hawaii! We made this a multi day stop for smoothies. Even doubling back a couple times as we explored the Kona side of the island. Worth the drive!

Every time we're on the Big Island, we now make it a point to stop at the South Kona Fruit Stand -- and it never disappoints. It's one of those places that feels like a true local treasure. Everything is fresh, colorful, and full of flavor. The white pineapple, papaya, and mango are always perfect, and the smoothies are honestly some of the best I've ever had. It's more than just a fruit stand, it's a peaceful little stop where you can slow down, enjoy the view, and soak in the aloha. The staff is friendly, the vibe is laid-back, and you can tell they take pride in what they do. If you're driving through South Kona, do yourself a favor and pull over. Whether you grab some fruit, a fresh coconut, or just a smoothie, you won't regret it. This place is a favorite for a reason.

The merchant who helped us was so sweet, just like the fruit she sells. Really excited to try some new fruit.

Really cute and cozy local fruit sand. Good smoothies, I loved my Lilikoi and pineapple which was tart and fresh fruits with coconut water, and very refreshing. You'll find Avo, Papaya, unique local fruits and packed salad (papaya salad), dips (guacamole) and sandwiches. Back seating area has shaded tables and view of the ocean on one side and fruits trees & birds on the other. Really peaceful vibe here. Takes CC with no service charge, $10 minimum.

Wonderful treat after visiting the national park. Great smoothies, fruit and sandwiches well worth a stop. Thank you, Greg and Roberta From Napa, California

The cutest fruit stand with exotic fruit for cheap, friendly workers, and a nice seating area with a view. Saw this fruit stand on the side of the road as we were travelling back and forth from Captain Cook. Wanted to stop by and see what kind of fruit they had. We ended up picking up rambutan, papaya, apple banana, ugli fruit, and these cherries that were almost bell pepper-like. The cashier was super sweet and helpful as we browsed and shopped. Didnt get to try their fresh smoothies but I bet those were delicious too.

Fresh organic fruit, refreshing smoothies, yummy sandwiches, friendly service. A must stop if you are passing thru. Lots of outdoor shaded seating in the garden

This place is a cute little place that we went to today. They sells a lot of tropical food including snake fruits. I always wanted to try snake fruit and this place has it. There are also bake goods and drinks. The lady that sell us the fruits was super nice and give directions on the proper way to eat the fruits. It was great.

When you just hike the Captain Cook Monument without liquid with you of course you're dying to slurp anything cold after. Goodness along the way to Hilo this fruit stand stall is a savior for our thirsty throat. We stopped here for some smoothies and watery fruits. Bandit got the chocolate peanut butter banana and rice milk smoothie while I got the mango banana apple juice. T'was okay. Not the best. It's refreshing though coz its cold. Got the Caimito with us to munch along the road. The Caimito fruit was so good. It's sweetness is just right! If only there's other fruit stand nearby I'll check it out for sure. I mean, the woman who took orders are a bit grumpy. Also, when I tried to ask for a knife to cut the Caimito she said that they won't do it coz of Covid. I don't wanna comment coz it's just unreal. Like duh, I can wash it for you if you like Auntie. But yeah, ended up using my teeth to slit the fruit. LoL. A bit messy but all worth it! Mahalo for reading and happy juandering fellow yeeps!

The smoothie was decent. The lady working there was a very odd vibe. She told me it was her mission to educate people about washing fruit. I didn't stop by for a sermon. She told me something about fruit washing and rats and I tuned her out. She told me that they use only frozen fruit and her smoothies are the best in the island. Well I'd give the smoothie a 4 and the experience a 2. I've had far better tasting smoothies.

Cute local stand with lots of different fruits we have never heard of or seen before. The owner was super friendly and helpful, helping us decide which fruits to try and informing us to wash the fruits with soap and water. We ended up buying apple banana, strawberry papaya, snake fruit, white guava, abiu, and rollinia. We also got a #7 smoothie which had mango, papaya, and apple juice - we chugged it! In the back they have some baked goods and bottled drinks. We got a lilikoi bar, candied ginger and some bottled water.

Lovely fruit stand with a lot of variety! The cold sliced mango hit the spot! Would definitely recommend!!

A pleasant and comfortable camping experience on the Big Island…read more As a solo woman, I spent 9 nights in the Jungle Canopy at Gingerhill Farm Retreat in April 2026. I had an excellent stay, although I am used to camping, and feel that having a camping mindset is required for staying here. Yes, the chorus of frogs are very loud as soon as it's dark, and you can hear roosters in the distance in the morning along with bird songs. However, I enjoyed the noises and am an early riser. The Jungle Canopy is located close to the private residence, and I experienced little human noise. There was one nighttime rain and no leaks. The screened-in bedroom is functional, and the bed has a good (firm) mattress. The sink and toilet, screened off and behind the bed, are nice to have in this enlarged tent. The shower is a few feet outside the tented bedroom/kitchen, and is open to the sky (cool to look up at the tree canopy). The shower is very nice, and the water gets hot. There is no door, but the only way you can be seen is from the Jungle Canopy tent itself (you can hang a sarong if you needed more privacy). They provide face clothes and towels, two worn beach towels, as well as family-size liquid hand soap, shampoo and conditioner (decent quality). The kitchen, in front of the screened bedroom, also under a canopy, has everything you need: pots and pans (including a few that are stainless steel), a good size fridge with a small enclosed freezer (with 2 freezer packs), a sink with dish soap, etc. They provide a Berkey-like water filter carboy, a stainless-steel kettle to boil water, as well as coffee beans, a grinder, and French-press. There is a small table with two chairs where you can look at beautiful tropical plants. The only bummer is that the hot plate to cook food and boil the kettle can be slow to heat, especially if there is a slight breeze. Once the propane tank emptied while I was cooking breakfast and I had to text to ask for a replacement, however, someone came over right away and I was able to resume cooking. Like camping, you are responsible for taking out your own trash to communal cans located a fairly short distance away. You can't put any toilet paper down the toilet, so all paper used for #1 and #2 needs to go into a plastic-bag-lined trash can and you remove and dump. They removed the compost. Recommendations to Gingerhill: provide more plastic bags for trash, more toilet paper (I had to ask), and offer a larger compost bucket as it filled too quickly. Also, one day I came back in the afternoon and found the gate code didn't work. I texted and called and fairly soon someone told me that they changed the code, but didn't notify me. Next time they change the code they should text all visitors staying at the farm the new code. So, in all, I would give a 9/10 ranking, especially given the cost compared to other accommodations, and the tropical farm experience. FYI, there is snorkeling gear that you can use that is located next to the Sunset Cottage.

We were hungry for late lunch so without further a do, we made an immediate u turn to go back to it. Very clean and inviting dining area. A little merchandise section to the north end of the space. And to the west end?? You guessed it. The ocean! The view is simply stunning on a beautiful sunny mid afternoon. The young lady was pleasant to us. She answered all of our questions. Once she had everything she needed to make our plate fully loaded. She immediately concocted it in one of the largest containers (we ordered one to split it). We also asked for a side mashed purple sweet potato. The final product was a beautifully decorated plate of poke lunch with the dark purple sweet potato. Very appetizing looking indeed. We went with the California Dreaming and Shoyu as our poke choices. The kimchi and the ocean salad to accompany the pokes. Could it be better than this? The food (I mean everything) was delightful. We didn't say much to each other where we kept eating until there was nothing left on our plate. You know the moment where you are completely mute because what you are eating is so delicious? We had that moment at Reel Aloha Poke and Fish Co today. It was a nice way to conclude our 5-6 day Big Island trip. ***Quick note: This place doesn't have restrooms; this is the only bummer thing about this place***

KTA Express, you're a lifesaver!…read more I came to the KTA Express store twice in recent weeks, and this store/supermarket totally saved me from having to drive back in town (Kailua-Kona) to buy something I sorely needed. I was working at a local bank next door doing some lock work when I realized I needed a few 9-volt batteries to fix something. Being that I was traveling, and did not have access to all my normal gear, I asked the bank people where was the nearest store? Originally I was worried that I might have to drive all the way back to Kailua-Kona to get what I needed, but luckily KTA had a store in Kealakekua. Walked over to the KTA store, as it was just a hop, skip, & jump away from the local bank (where I was working). Got what I needed, and time & resources were saved that day! Last week Thursday I found myself back in Kealakekua working at a credit union this time. No, I didn't need anything in particular for the credit union this time, but after finishing the job at the credit union, the KTA store was very convenient for me to get some drinks & some grub. Apparently the KTA Express has a vendor - L&L Drive-In that does pre-made - ready to eat bentos. Some of the items looked pretty good, so I decided to give it a shot & picked up a mini BBQ Chicken & Noodle Bento. The mini bento was pretty tasty, and best part of it all is that I didn't have to go far to get my lunch grub. KTA Express in Kealakekua, you're a lifesaver! Lol!
