Clean & set up so that you can see each delicious product. There are many but the traditional taro chips are my favorite. After Granny Goose folded I waited for another. If these were thinner, they'd be bomb.

12 oz plastic container to keep their chips fresh & from cracking!Check out their inventory list!

Not sure this place was even open when we drove up to it. It's a little store with many treats inside. The girl was busy stocking the treats. We had to ask for samples and she gave us a sample to the Kona Chip cookie. It was delicious! We ended up buying some of those. Would have liked to try the chips.

Turns out they've been around for quite a while but I've never heard of them until recently. A friend experienced one of their products while abroad a domestic Hawaiian Airlines flight and told me about these chips that "Tasted like Maui Potato Chips with furikake". KITCH'N COOK'D: Being a Maui boy, this slogan is very familiar to me as it adorned the bags of our infamous (and now sadly defunct, Maui Potato Chips). I thought maybe Maui Potato Chips sold the brand to Kona Chips, or there was infringement going on. Turns out, "Kitch'n Cook'd" is a trademarked franchise name and business model out of Ohio. What the... They supply franchisees with the cooking equipment and cooking process, also garnering them the homely-sounding name & logo. THE GOODS: Furikake Chips We found them on Oahu while picking up our orders of taro chips from the Hawaiian Chip Company. The 3.25 oz., $8.00 bag of chips aren't cheap! Apparently one of the hallmarks of the brand is that their chips go through a "special spinning process that reduces oil and adds extra crispiness", as emblazoned on the bag. Taste wise, they were good as the salty furikake seasoning went well with the chip's pure flavor. OVERALL: Tasty but pricey goodness.

I happened to be visiting the Big Island and as I was driving down the road, I saw the sign for Kona Chips! I had no idea they were located in Captain Cook. I've been down that road numerous times and never saw them until then. So I made a quick U-Turn and headed on down to the store. They're part of a single-level business building with limited parking available in front of the store. If you're not familiar with Kona Chips, they are homemade kettle chips in various flavors (furikake, bbq, etc.) My favorite is the furikake chips, which they sell on Oahu at just one location (Hawaiian Chip Co.), otherwise you can buy it on Hawaiian Airlines as a snack or you can fly to Kona to get them! As I stepped into the store, I was greeted by a sweet girl who answered all of my questions. I was surprised that they have so many other items for sale besides chips! They also sell cookies (apparently "Ugly Cookies" are their most popular), but they were sold out. They also sell beef jerky, which is very thin and crispy, and a wide variety of local snacks. It's a bit intimidating to go inside because if you're like me, you want to buy everything! I ended up getting some chips, beef jerky and cookies. I didn't have a lot of room in my carry-on bag so I had to limit myself, however I do believe that they ship items as well. If you happen to be in the Captain Cook area, this is a must-stop destination!

We're at home in Sacramento snacking on the last of our Kona Chips that we brought home from the Big Island and I can't believe I haven't written a review yet! This is a small shop, but they have a lot to look at! There are candies, spices, hot sauces, snacks and of course Kona Chips! Everything we've purchased here has been amazing and the people who run the shop are always so friendly and welcoming. The chips are on the more expensive side, but they are the most delicious chips I think I've ever eaten. They're nice and crispy and perfectly salty without being too greasy. They come in a few flavors and all of them are delicious. You can also find the chips at some local places around the island. We also loved the jerky that we bought here. It was really thin and crispy but packed so much flavor and also came in a few different flavor options. I'd recommend getting enough to take home with you, and hiding the bag in your suitcase so you don't eat them all before you leave. I'm already sad our last bag is gone!

Our first exposure to Kona Chips happened to be on our Hawaiian Airlines flight from Portland to Kona, where my wife purchased a bag of their furikake chips from the onboard menu. Immediately, we were hooked on them, and vowed that we would take at least a couple bags home with us. Fortuitously, as we were driving along the Hawai'i Belt Road, we saw the Kona Chips sign on the front of an otherwise unremarkable building, slammed on the brakes, and came to an screeching halt. This was fate, and there was no way we were missing out! More than just chips, this shop has all manner of snacks and treats, savory, sweet or umami, whatever your flavor preference. We stocked up on several bags of the furikake chips, hot sauce, brownie bites, and other assorted goodies to take home and share (yeah, right!) with the rest of the family. Fun fact: while discussing our new obsession with the shopkeep, and how we discovered Kona Chips in the first place, he informed us that Hawaiian Airlines orders crates of their product every week. Glad to see a major corporation helping out a local outfit like this! If you haven't tried Kona Chips, take our advice and don't flake out! Stop in and grab a bag (or twelve)! Heck, they even sell them by the bucket (literally), if you have room enough in your suitcase to smuggle them into your carry-on (because there's no way you're going to check them and miss out on snacking on them during the flight home)!

Snacking heaven! Kona potato chips that pack a great crunch. Sort of like kettle chips. I got the standard version and furikake. Furikake has nice savory flavor. They also had special small batch flavors and got the spicy one that has a welcome mellow burn. I also got the crispy dried beef which was like thinly sliced beef jerky. Not chewy at all, sliced thin was was crispy! many more things to try but I had limited luggage space so had to cut myself off.

One of Kona's prized businesses, and for good reason! My favorites are the plain Kona chips (gotta get the tub size) & ugly cookies...classics. Their dip mixes are great too and it seems like every time I go back, there are new, more creative offerings. Great for omiyage if you want something authentic & 'ono!

KTA Express, you're a lifesaver!…read more I came to the KTA Express store twice in recent weeks, and this store/supermarket totally saved me from having to drive back in town (Kailua-Kona) to buy something I sorely needed. I was working at a local bank next door doing some lock work when I realized I needed a few 9-volt batteries to fix something. Being that I was traveling, and did not have access to all my normal gear, I asked the bank people where was the nearest store? Originally I was worried that I might have to drive all the way back to Kailua-Kona to get what I needed, but luckily KTA had a store in Kealakekua. Walked over to the KTA store, as it was just a hop, skip, & jump away from the local bank (where I was working). Got what I needed, and time & resources were saved that day! Last week Thursday I found myself back in Kealakekua working at a credit union this time. No, I didn't need anything in particular for the credit union this time, but after finishing the job at the credit union, the KTA store was very convenient for me to get some drinks & some grub. Apparently the KTA Express has a vendor - L&L Drive-In that does pre-made - ready to eat bentos. Some of the items looked pretty good, so I decided to give it a shot & picked up a mini BBQ Chicken & Noodle Bento. The mini bento was pretty tasty, and best part of it all is that I didn't have to go far to get my lunch grub. KTA Express in Kealakekua, you're a lifesaver! Lol!
