I stopped by the Coffee Shack on the way to Captain Cook. I was excited about the views only to find out there was a long wait for tables, which is fair since it was a Sunday. Instead we ordered some coffees and coconut cream pie to go. The iced coffees came in one size only, a 20oz soda cup. So I ordered a macnut iced coffee and I was pretty disappointed. For a spot named the coffee shack in the heart of coffee country I was hoping for some decent coffee but it tasted very bitter and there was no macnut flavor to be found. The coffee was still a bit warm and the melting ice cubes quickly diluted the drink. Maybe the dine in coffee is better or I should have ordered a hot drink. The coconut cream pie was very tasty though! I wish I had tried more food here. The service was alright, the person taking orders at the counter seemed annoyed and snippy. The view is spectacular though! I would come back to dine in just to experience that view.
Delicious food with kind service. The coffee was super good with the macadamia nut milk. The papaya itself wasn't sweet and didn't really taste like anything. Finals thought it would be a yogurt bowl, but it was only a spoonful of yogurt. The eggs Benedict's had great flavor, and the fish tasted sooo good with the hollandaise sauce . The omelet was very cheesy and we loved the cheese pull. While the cheesecake was good, the crust needs work. It's pretty hard and we couldn't break it up easily. Cookie was dry and not something we would get again. The bar was also pretty hard, but the flavors were nice.
This is such a gem. The service was amazing and super friendly. We arrived later in the morning and waited over an hour for a table. But it was worth the wait. They have a beautiful view. Parking can be a little challenging so just come prepared to wait a little for a spot to open. The food was delicious. Ordered breakfast sandwiches and the eggs with Portuguese sausage with rice or toast. Coffee was great and were told they grow their own. We also ordered the lime pie and coconut cream pie. Combine a scoop of lime with coconut and it's a hawaiian delight!! But stand alone the lime pie was amazing and that's not a flavor I would normally go for. Treat yourself to a dessert. I highly recommend this spot. If you are pressed for time, follow the same road down to the fork in the road they have a grab n go coffee shack that offers Pastries and prepackaged meals for the road and coffee.
Great place to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a view of Captain Cook's bay. Food was great and standout memorable compared to what I had in the past few days on the island. Jeffrey provided exceptional service and did a great job recommending the pulled pork on luau bread and the passion fruit cheese cake. Thanks Jeffrey!!
The view here is amazing. That alone makes it worth the trip to visit this spot. We got hot mocha lattes - 10/10 Service was great!! Our food took a while to get to us but our server was aware and let us know it was taking the kitchen longer than usual. The food was good. Breakfast burrito -10/10 Ono fish Benedict - 6.5/10 (one egg was just right, the other egg was undercooked, hollandaise could've been brighter/more Flavorful) Ono fish sandwich - 10/10 Ruben sandwich - 8/10 Carrot cake - 10/10 perfection Cinnamon roll - 7/10 super creamy which was yum, the actual roll was a little dry We always try to bring visitors to our island home to this spot - there's no where else like it :-) Mocha lattes 10/10!!

Wow! What a gorgeous view! The food was delicious and the service was great. Handsome and friendly and great waitering by our server! My only disappointment was that there were no pancakes the morning we ate there. So glad we stopped in after years of driving by and wondering about all the cats parked out front. We will be back.
This is the place to go! The view from the tables is STUNNING. Get there early if you are going for breakfast as there are few tables, but it is so worth it. The food was excellent - we had the papaya plate and the special crab omelet. The iced coffee is huge! And don't forget the lilikoi cheesecake one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had!
For our last breakfast, we decided to stop here abd we were so happy we did. First of all the view for breakfast is amazing. It is a house that turned restaurant. I can imagine during busy times, parking is a dread. However, the service is phenomenal and we got lattes to start. They were huge and perfectly warm. Then we ordered the special of cherry Garcia franchise roast and the egg breakfast. The French toast was perfect and that luau bread was perfect. It was not too soggy and not too dry. I didn't even need syrup for them. The eggs and bacon were perfect for my mom and she got the luau bread for her toast, which she enjoyed as well. She said it wasn't overwhelming with coconut and carrots. It also had macadamia nuts too. Overall, I definitely recommend stopping here at some point when you're in the captain cook area. Just be patient with parking.

My wife's loved hers The view adds to it and it's just a beautiful cliff side spot and I'm so glad we got there early to get our spot! The gekos are so freakin cool too haha The service was really sweet, I feel like they have a great attitude and were very sweet.
The food ranges from good to great at The Coffee Shack. The views are fantabulous, and the service is attentive. Baked goods are a house specialty and you won't go wrong with them. I've also had what was the best cappuccino in recent memory during a visit in the past year. Alas, the cappuccino experience wasn't repeated, though later caps were still good. At meals I tend to stick with the Ono Benedict though I've had the fish sandwich and can recommend both. The papaya trio is a good one for a lighter meal. I'll have to try the pizza some day, but I'm content with breakfast/brunch items usually.
I don't really know the area and this place was recommended by our Airbnb host. I noticed Hawaii has a lot of homey comfort style types of food and this is definitely one of those places. The service was friendly and quick. It's not luxurious and the food isnt any more special than other pancake shops but it's solid. What we ordered came as it was it was expected to be and running in there while it was raining made it even more delicious. Something unique was their papaya. I was not expecting whole half papaya not pre cut up but it was absolutely delicious. Not a normal breakfast fruit for me but it was a wonderful, delicious, beautifully plated surprise. Also, a gecko friend came crawling by our window so 2 wonderful surprises!

Delicious food with an incredible view. Breakfast and brunch are the main draws here. We love sitting in the back room, where the unobstructed ocean views and cool trade winds make the experience even better. Expect a wait on weekends, but they use an app that lets you track your place in line and alerts you when your table is ready. Don't skip dessert--the coconut cream pie is a favorite. If heaven has a lunch counter overlooking the Pacific, I think I found it. The Coffee Shack isn't just about the view (and trust me, the view alone is worth the drive)--it's about everything that comes with it. Let's start with the sandwiches. The Hawaiian bread is absolutely incredible. Soft, slightly sweet, fresh, and honestly the best sandwich bread I've ever had. Every bite made me wonder why every sandwich in the world isn't served on Hawaiian bread. Then came the pizza. Authentic, artisan island flavor with a homemade crust that tasted like it had been infused with fresh rosemary and other garden herbs. The pineapple and ham tasted wonderfully fresh, making the classic Hawaiian pizza feel like it was invented right here. And then there's the balcony. You look out over the emerald-green Kona coffee slopes as they tumble down to the brilliant blue waters of Kealakekua Bay. The Pacific stretches to the horizon, sailboats drift across the bay, and on a clear day you can even spot the Captain Cook Monument across the water. It's the kind of view that makes you forget your phone...at least until you realize you need to take another picture. Come hungry. Stay awhile. Order dessert and another cup of Kona coffee. You'll leave wondering if you came for lunch or for one of the most beautiful dining views in Hawaii. Mahalo, Coffee Shack--you've spoiled me for every sandwich and pizza that follows. read more

The coffee was so diluted that I wonder why it's called a coffee shack (and it's in Kona! The coffee country!). We also got two sandwiches. They are fine. I think people come here mostly for the view. read more

The concierge at our hotel recommended this place and it did not disappoint!! Easy to find and park, delicious food, we had the scramble and Benedict! They were accommodating to my gluten allergy, and our waitress was happy to recommend the best options for drinks and gluten free goodies!! The view was perfect! read more
Wow!! Yes please!!! Coconut latte with Kona coffee one of the best I've had ever!! Breakfast before a big hike is the only way we do it. French toast - homemade bread so good! Love the thick texture and yes, yes fresh carrots, coconut, and macadamia nuts farm to fork here. Ham and cheese omelette with breakfast potatoes, and a choice of homemade toast or rice I went for the homemade toast which was so delicious. Huge portions so we split both dishes to try. Such an amazing setting as well as you're eating looking over the beautiful Kona Coast, and farmlands lush, green trees, and plants flowering everywhere birds singing your ultimate Hawaii experience. The Aloha spirit permeates this delightful roadside cafe. Make reservations but the wait is eased by the beauty that surrounds this eatery. The coffee choices are abundant and expertly crafted. Everything baked is done on premise. The service is great, the servers are attentive. The view of Captain Hook bay is spectacular, one could just sit there all day, and all of the above takes second place to the food. The Coffee Shack is an absolute gem. Between the incredible food, quick and friendly service, and a truly stunning view, it hits all the right notes. A delightful bonus? The local geckos hanging out with you, enjoying the sights right alongside the guests. Parking may be tight but the scenes and food are worth it. read more

One of my favorite places we visited on the island! Totally blown away but my omelette! I would've went back every morning if it was on the menu every day. The hot chocolate was delicious, it tasted like they melted a chocolate bar in a cup. My wife had an assortment of things, all coconut which I'm not a fan of but she loved it. Our food was fast and delicious and the women were all so nice and helpful. They also have a bakery which the BEST Lililikoi cheesecake!! Oh and the I think the view goes without saying, gorgeous! read more

An AMAZING location and the coffee is delicious. I got an iced oatmilk honey latte with an add shot . We also tried the chocolate chip macadamia cookies, the chocolate cranberry macadamia nut bar, banana bread and a cranberry macadamia nut scone. I say try it all! read more

Wonderful coffee shop cafe outside of Kona in captain cook. Stopped for a coffee one morning and decided to go back for breakfast the next day as it was close to the mango farm we were staying at. I can't say enough good things about the coffee shack. The employees are polite and friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the views don't even seem real. It was super sweet of our server to allow us to change tables to the window seat after a group left. Hawaiian French toast was top shelf as was my lox breakfast special. Fresh, delicious with homemade breads. If staying in Kona I'd recommend taking the short drive out to either grab a coffee or brunch from this gem. read more

Clifftop overlooking the Kona coastline and Kealakekua Bay, short driving distance between Puʻuhonua O Hōnaunau National Historical Park and various Kona coffee Farms. The ocean view is amazing and the patio seating is cute and cozy The lilikoi cheesecake is a total standout. It's smooth, fresh, refined and has that perfect tropical tang from the local passionfruit that makes it completely yummy. Pairing a slice with a cup of their 100% Kona coffee while sitting on that lanai is a definitely one of the best Big Island experience. Our server is very friendly and attentive. read more

Fantastic food, vegetarian friendly, amazing views, wonderful and efficient staff. We had been visiting Kona and heading to one of the great National Parks on the south side of the Big Island. We heard good things about the food and location. Everything we heard was positive and ended up being true. The food was extremely fresh and taste, the service was fast and the waitstaff are very friendly. If you arrive on a weekend expect to wait a while. Seriously, the only downside is the parking isn't great and it can be tricky to get on/off of HWY 11, they do have parking down a steep hill on the south side of the restaurant. When you're traveling on the Big Island, stop for breakfast or lunch, it's worth the wait. read more

Hands down the best cheesecake I've ever had--and I don't say that lightly. My mom has been running a bakery for over 15 years specializing in cheesecakes, so I know the real deal when I taste it. This one? Honestly right up there with hers. The only giveaway it's not from her kitchen is the look--because flavor-wise, it's spot on. Made fresh with local organic ingredients and a whole lot of love, it's creamy but not heavy, with that perfect buttery crust and just the right balance of tangy and sweet. Pair that with the vibe here--a laid-back local spot with island simplicity and a million-dollar view--and you've basically found dessert paradise. Their breakfast menu? Just as incredible as the cheesecake. We loved everything so much that we actually missed our flight back to Oahu--first time in our lives! And you know what? We weren't mad at all. The lush valley and ocean views at this open air restaurant were breathtaking! You'll get a beautiful view and feel the ocean breeze wherever you are seated. I ordered the Ono fish Benedict- it was drenched in hollandaise, which overpowered the delicate Ono fish, so I was a little disappointed about that. The potatoes were crispy and delicious. Everyone raves about their desserts and baked goods here, so I had to try their coconut cream pie, despite having very little room in my stomach. It was a slice of heaven on a plate- absolutely delectable! The service was also quick and efficient. Highly recommend checking out this gem for breakfast, but do expect a wait unless you come early! read more

We decided to stop here for a good cup of coffee. When they asked if we wanted to join them for breakfast we, we took a chance and said "sure". That was the best decision! We had a lovely start to our slow morning. The view, the people, the simple breakfast, and the coffee was the perfect start to our day! My boyfriend ordered a half order of French toast (5/5) and an Americano (5/5) while I ordered the papaya special (5/5) and coconut latte (4/5) . I ended up drinking the Americano since the papaya special had enough flavors for me that morning. We took the coconut pound cake and the rest of coconut latte to go, which was great for us to sip and snack on while driving around. Final thoughts: check it out, but go early since the space is small and could fill up fast. read more

Yes there are many options, including the salads and most of the breakfast dishes if you ask for no croutons or toast. However I'm not sure if any of the pastries are gluten free.
