Passion fruit cheese cake and coffee
Tracy C.

Great place to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a view of Captain Cook's bay. Food was great and standout memorable compared to what I had in the past few days on the island. Jeffrey provided exceptional service and did a great job recommending the pulled pork on luau bread and the passion fruit cheese cake. Thanks Jeffrey!!

The view here is amazing. That alone makes it worth the trip to visit this spot. We got hot mocha lattes - 10/10 Service was great!! Our food took a while to get to us but our server was aware and let us know it was taking the kitchen longer than usual. The food was good. Breakfast burrito -10/10 Ono fish Benedict - 6.5/10 (one egg was just right, the other egg was undercooked, hollandaise could've been brighter/more Flavorful) Ono fish sandwich - 10/10 Ruben sandwich - 8/10 Carrot cake - 10/10 perfection Cinnamon roll - 7/10 super creamy which was yum, the actual roll was a little dry We always try to bring visitors to our island home to this spot - there's no where else like it :-) Mocha lattes 10/10!!

The Coffee Shack is an absolute gem. Between the incredible food, quick and friendly service, and a truly stunning view, it hits all the right notes. A delightful bonus? The local geckos hanging out with you, enjoying the sights right alongside the guests. Parking may be tight but the scenes and food are worth it.

I don't really know the area and this place was recommended by our Airbnb host. I noticed Hawaii has a lot of homey comfort style types of food and this is definitely one of those places. The service was friendly and quick. It's not luxurious and the food isnt any more special than other pancake shops but it's solid. What we ordered came as it was it was expected to be and running in there while it was raining made it even more delicious. Something unique was their papaya. I was not expecting whole half papaya not pre cut up but it was absolutely delicious. Not a normal breakfast fruit for me but it was a wonderful, delicious, beautifully plated surprise. Also, a gecko friend came crawling by our window so 2 wonderful surprises!

Wow! What a gorgeous view! The food was delicious and the service was great. Handsome and friendly and great waitering by our server! My only disappointment was that there were no pancakes the morning we ate there. So glad we stopped in after years of driving by and wondering about all the cats parked out front. We will be back.

This is the place to go! The view from the tables is STUNNING. Get there early if you are going for breakfast as there are few tables, but it is so worth it. The food was excellent - we had the papaya plate and the special crab omelet. The iced coffee is huge! And don't forget the lilikoi cheesecake one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had!

For our last breakfast, we decided to stop here abd we were so happy we did. First of all the view for breakfast is amazing. It is a house that turned restaurant. I can imagine during busy times, parking is a dread. However, the service is phenomenal and we got lattes to start. They were huge and perfectly warm. Then we ordered the special of cherry Garcia franchise roast and the egg breakfast. The French toast was perfect and that luau bread was perfect. It was not too soggy and not too dry. I didn't even need syrup for them. The eggs and bacon were perfect for my mom and she got the luau bread for her toast, which she enjoyed as well. She said it wasn't overwhelming with coconut and carrots. It also had macadamia nuts too. Overall, I definitely recommend stopping here at some point when you're in the captain cook area. Just be patient with parking.

This little place was amazing. The food was good, I enjoyed my sandwich and it was great for breakfast. My wife's loved hers The view adds to it and it's just a beautiful cliff side spot and I'm so glad we got there early to get our spot! The gekos are so freakin cool too haha The service was really sweet, I feel like they have a great attitude and were very sweet.

The coffee was so diluted that I wonder why it's called a coffee shack (and it's in Kona! The coffee country!). We also got two sandwiches. They are fine. I think people come here mostly for the view.

Great quality of food great service and of course, the best views. Definitely would love to go back. Also the prices were very reasonable.

Love these gold dust day gekos. It's cool they leave a lil jam out for them. This made the whole experience that much better.

Wonderful coffee shop cafe outside of Kona in captain cook. Stopped for a coffee one morning and decided to go back for breakfast the next day as it was close to the mango farm we were staying at. I can't say enough good things about the coffee shack. The employees are polite and friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the views don't even seem real. It was super sweet of our server to allow us to change tables to the window seat after a group left. Hawaiian French toast was top shelf as was my lox breakfast special. Fresh, delicious with homemade breads. If staying in Kona I'd recommend taking the short drive out to either grab a coffee or brunch from this gem.

The view with breakfast was amazing it does get super busy and parking is limited but I noticed that the service went by fast & very friendly! Highly recommend if you're passing through the captain cook area! the coconut pound bread & the papaya bowl was amazing

Ocean view from the patio seating

Clifftop overlooking the Kona coastline and Kealakekua Bay, short driving distance between Puʻuhonua O Hōnaunau National Historical Park and various Kona coffee Farms. The ocean view is amazing and the patio seating is cute and cozy The lilikoi cheesecake is a total standout. It's smooth, fresh, refined and has that perfect tropical tang from the local passionfruit that makes it completely yummy. Pairing a slice with a cup of their 100% Kona coffee while sitting on that lanai is a definitely one of the best Big Island experience. Our server is very friendly and attentive.

Coconut latte. Yummmm

Hi, Is it possible to eat Gluten-free? Kind regards,…

Yes there are many options, including the salads and most of the breakfast dishes if you ask for no croutons or toast. However I'm not sure if any of the pastries are gluten free.

No big deal! They do have smoothies, so we decided to try those out with a slice of cheesecake. I mean, because cheesecake. The employee here was super helpful and nice. Honestly, this location looks extremely popular for a late breakfast, and it makes sense to me: the menu was full of some yummy offerings. You felt like you were sitting in a very personal, old time diner where everyone would know each other. It was honestly very authentic, and I loved how we felt like we were at a friend's house. The smoothies were really good! Bright, vibrant flavors and very much needed after a busy morning. The cheesecake, well, it lasted about 2.5 seconds. Seriously sooo good and a nice little treat! I believe they make the cheesecake and other baked goods in-house, so that's a bonus. This wasn't what we were hunting for, but we were happy to stumble upon this cozy diner!

They have a TV showing historical clips of the Japanese immigrants who moved to Hawaii. We learned so much just dining there! The servers were very nice and friendly. They even offer free, hot green tea. It wasn't crowded when we went there for lunch. The server said we could order from the dinner menu too. The restaurant is decorated with a bunch of old family photos. It's not a fancy food location, but a place that is in the locals' hearts. Also, it's not standard Japanese American food, so don't come in looking for rolls and such! Instead, they serve fresh, perfectly prepared Japanese food with a Hawaiian twist, favorites like saimin and shrimp tempura. The large saimin ($16.17) was delicious and really hit the spot. Toppings were Spam, eggs, and veggies. Simple, but tasty! Shrimp tempura appetizer ($14.85) was a pretty large sized dish. The pieces have a lot of crunchy batter and the kids loved it. It was a bit greasy, but that's to be expected. DH got a Oyako Donburi with sashimi ($21.93). Wow, the sashimi was truly amazing! So tender, it just melts in your mouth. The eggs were cooked with bamboo pieces which kinda threw DH off. I liked them, but DH would've preferred it without. The flavor is sweet/salty and pretty mild. It came with miso soup and some pickles. Parking is right in the front and backs into the main road. It can be spicy getting out if traffic is heavy. They don't have a lot of bathrooms, so there might be a wait. Those are the downsides. Otherwise, a wonderful local place to eat!

I walked in and was completely ignored though there were two people behind the counter and only one person in line ahead of me. I waited patiently, feeling like this was a test. Locals know you go slow and be patient and you get good service. Aloha only. As friendly as I could possibly be, I asked for drip coffee of which there was only the dregs left in the pot, but enough to fill my cup. I was okay with that and paid, about $4.20 before tip... then found my cup (16oz) was only half full. I said thank you cheerfully and left, thinking they'll just pour the rest of that pot down the drain. The food looks good if a little expensive, but I'll never go back there. There's other places where the service can really suck but the food is ono and the price is good, like L&L. You can get a meal there for less than $10.
