When I asked for a dish to put it in so I could actually eat it, I dumped it out and found it was one solid frozen block of açaí scooped straight from the tub, with a light sprinkle of toppings on top. I brought it back and the staff seemed dumbfounded about how to handle it. They said they couldn't take it back, and if they made me a new one, they'd charge me for it. I asked for the manager, who came out and offered no fix either. I ended up eating what I could. As we were walking out, the manager said "Mahalo ke Akua" ("thank God") loud enough for us to hear. There was no mistaking the meaning: thank God we were leaving. I came back and asked what he'd said so he knew I heard him, and he repeated it with a smirk. From the person running the shop, that says everything. To the owner, a simple suggestion: put a bell on the door, and when it rings, have someone poke their head out and say Good morning. Encourage interaction, It costs nothing and changes everything. I'd also strongly recommend sending in a secret shopper or spending more time in the shop yourself, because what's happening when you're not there sucks. Everything is so expensive, it doesn't take much to do people right. Right now this place feels built for one-and-done cruise ship and tourist traffic, with no care whether you ever come back. The schmear wasn't the kind you'll get in NYC where you have more cream cheese than bagel, but most people will be happy with the amount. The avocado toast was tasty, with a sizable amount of fresh avocado, arugula, halved tomatoes, and thinly sliced radish, over toasted bread, with a slice of orange and a strawberry. My better half loved the Macadamia nut croissant, being buttery with a large amount of cream dotted with mac nuts. The ham and cheese croissant was less buttery than the mac nut croissant, but had a good amount of warm melted cheese and ham. The cold brew was smooth and not bitter, with solid caffeine, being a good afternoon pick me up for a session in the adult pool. The drip coffee however was quite bitter and not to our liking. The coolest part of this stop is the Lava Tube that you can walk through. You just need to walk down the stairs from the visitor center and follow the signs for the Lava Tube. It's a little bit of a hilly walk, so be prepared. The tube itself is short, but it is neat to see. There is no cost to visit this place which is a plus.
