We loved this place so much while on vacation, we went back again the next day for more coffee and bags of beans for friends back home. The staff was friendly and informative. Tasting was great. The fields were beautiful and it was neat to stroll through and look at the trees. We loved the peaberry the best. What a treat. I highly recommend this stop while on the Big Island.

Sometimes the "road" less traveled brings a surprise to my life in an unexpectedly good way. Little that I know that I was going to taste the best dark-roasted coffee ever at a small coffee stand on the side of the road, when I visited the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Hwy 11 in the Big Island. Most of the globally well-known coffee plantations, however, were on the other side, in Kona. Those regional coffees demanded a premium of $30 per pound at retail. This wasn't a regular coffee stand as I soon discovered. See enclosed pictures. I met with Lisa, the owner, who gave away free cups of coffee to all visitors. She gave me a brief tour of her Ka'u region coffee plantation that used to be a sugar plantation in 1996. She also invited me to eat some of the fresh macadamia nuts, growing from the trees, as well. Both the Kona and Ka'u region coffee have a bitter taste from the volcanic soil that makes it unique from other coffees that I've tasted from Starbucks and Peet's. Lisa told me she was semi-retired but ran her business with her husband, Jim, through a labor of love. She generates most of her business through her website. There is no set time as to when the coffee stand actually opens. I was very surprised that she even carries an iPhone. Before I drove away, I bought a pound of their expresso, dark roast, and medium roast at more than 35% discount from a leading Kona Coffee brand. -- In a crazy busy world, I am reminded to take a few minutes a day to celebrate life in the present moment, when I savor a sip of Ka'u's strong brew of coffee. Look at the stars on a clear night; snuggle in a warm bed; listen to a cat purr. Ka'u Coffee, you have just been Yelp'd!

This is best coffee. Little did I know how good coffee on a volcano road would be. We were greeted warmly by the owner and her chicken. She gave us free coffee and macadamian nuts. What a wonderful experience 10 for 1/2 pound 20 for 1 pound

We enjoyed the mushroom ginger soup, which was flavorful and and a soup and fresh green salad combo. Everything was delicious, flavorful, and just right. And the pricing was affordable. Woo hoo! Seated amidst the interesting and unique art of the gallery, with views outside to the gardens, it was a calm and peaceful dining experience.

We found Cafe Ono online, but realized it was closing soon. We decided to stop by anyway to check out Volcano Garden Arts, if anything, and we are so glad we did. The staff working at the cafe were so kind and still hooked us up with some caffeine, even though they were technically already closed - we really appreciated that. We got our coffee (good but nothing extraordinary tbh) and a snack, chatted a bit with the owner, and then decided to explore the grounds instead of sitting indoors the entire time. It was so fun to wander through the little shop (with their "please touch" policy) and gallery, check out the outdoor dining areas, meet one of the famous NZ bunnies (I think there were supposed to be 2 though..?), and walk through their forest and gardens. Even on a slightly rainy and damp day, the outdoor walk was enjoyable. The space is whimsically decorated with art, sculptures, and local products for sale, and at times it gave off an Alice in Wonderland vibe. We're not sure when we'll be back in this area or on Big Island in general, but if/when we are I'd love to return and explore again.

The animals are clearly well loved--there were baby pigs, goats (one with her adorable kids), huge tortoises, a beautiful dairy cow, baby bunnies, and the sweetest donkey named Arthur who looked like he was smiling! My kids had such a great time. Their son Isaiah gave us the best little tour--he was so knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend this place for a wholesome, fun family outing!

The farm is a family owned and operated space. You will be able to interact and learn from each family member there. Take a moment to speak to them, you might learn something new. The petting zoo was the highlight of my kids day. We prepaid online, showed up, and went to feeding the animals our grocery store foods: baby carrots and lettuce. We saw another patron had brought cut apples and cut bananas with peels on. I saw another person with feed so I'm thinking they may give you stuff, but highly recommend bringing your own because it makes the experience so much better, especially for the kiddos. They had bunnies, ducks, turtles, turkeys, goats, pigs, a donkey, cows, and chickens. Food/drink: nothing included for the petting zoo tour but they have a tea tasting with scones and tour which I wanted to do but the days didn't line up with our stay. They had a bunch of drinks like coffee, tea, hot chocolate for purchase and a really nice tent area to enjoy it. The mother and daughter duo were behind the counter serving up drinks! Tour: very laid back in the tour. Not sure if there was a start or finish cause our little one ended up running straight to the petting zoo. However, We ended up getting a tour of their vegetable garden including a "she shed" set up for quick shelter during the passing showers that might occur while gardening. The beautiful garden was such a delight to walk in. We spoke to the husband/owner at the end and learned a lot about the farm. Really an amazing business and I hope they are able to grow and flourish! The quietness is breathtaking. The weather always a bit interesting up at volcano but it was nice and cool with a bit of a mist here and there. Recommend boots if you can because there is poop if you don't watch your step. There is a lot of space to roam about through the petting zoo and tables in the garden. Only tight areas might be the bunny pen and vegetable garden. Bathroom: porta potty. Make sure to bring some wipes or hand sanitizer for your hands after. Pretty clean considering. Parking: lots of space in their designated parking are. Be respectful of the drive up there because there are a lot of locals and no other attraction around. I wish I could give this place more stars. But if the Yelp elite community is looking for a fun event, this is the place!
