Macadamia coffee and Samoa coffee. So good. Small stop along the way to the volcano from Kailua. Quick and efficient service. Small inside and a few seats outside.

Breakfast Bagel w/ no tomato. Delish!

I'm a regular here but this is my first time trying the breakfast bagel with pesto! anything with pesto, it's a go for me! I love the community! I love the service! I love the atmosphere! and if I had the money, I'd probably show up on the daily ;)

    Kona Mocha

I went here with my family , and we all got the Kona mocha. I highly recommend it! Then I split the coffee cake with my mom. It was the best coffee cake I ever had!

    Menu and seating

Chai and coffee delicious! The espresso brownie and coffee cake amazing! Great little place with seating, snacks and art. Will return!

Nice little cafe at the southern side. Not the best coffee (latte). Couldn't tell if it was the beans or just too much water for the amount of beans. Either way the flavor was a little weak. Food was great (coffee cake). They have a food truck that we didn't try but seemed to have a good selection

This coffee shop has quickly become one of favorite coffee shops. I love the owners story. I love that this kid created a better life for himself and has a great work ethic. It's easy to support and get behind their dreams. They are the only "local" coffee shop on the west and south side of the island open at 6:30am. They are conveniently located off the highway. Lots of seating. They have game night once in a while. They also made three gallons of hot coffee and let us use their carafes for my brother funeral reception. It's nice to have this service in this small town. We were very grateful. I highly recommend stopping here for your latte, tea and coffee!

My first time here & I made it just before closing. Ordered the Mauna Loaded. 10/10, so delicious! I asked for a little less sweetener than they would normally add.

Correct me if I'm wrong but given its close proximity to Punalu'u Bake Shop, Honua's Coffee House could possibly be the southern most coffee shop in the United States! This humble gem of coffee shop is conveniently located along the side of the Mamalahoa Highway so if you're ever driving along the southern part of the Big Island and on your long way to Hilo or Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Honua makes for a great pit stop to get your 100% Kona coffee caffeine fix. I got an iced mocha frappe and loved how smooth and perfectly rich it was as well as the cute cup they had my 12 oz serving in. Honua also sells baked goods and candies from local vendors and has this awesome maritime and sea monster art in their indoor lobby that I wish wasn't shut down by covid. Like many businesses in Hawaii, the store is manned by some very friendly and informative folks.

Carry out window only, still requires us to wear a mask to order at the outside porch window. I stayed in the car and waited, it's hot and we are outside after all. Ordered a large mango smoothie and a raspberry mocha. It cost a bit over $12. They use soy milk for their mango smoothie, makes it taste odd and not so good to me. The raspberry mocha was ok. Service was ok. Drinks were blah.

I would recommend Honua's without a doubt. It was the perfect first stop on my trip. There were many wonderful drink options (I got a happy smoothie with guava juice) and small bakery bites like the tasty vegan lemon cake. The barista was very friendly and made everything to order very very quickly. There are also small artisan items for sale like art, jewelry, clothing, candles in the cafe as well as a large room with games or an outdoor patio. I look forward to coming back again on my trip.

Drinks and Baked Goods We started our day early so we could get to as many places on our 2nd day in the Big Island. Half our crew are coffee drinkers and can't function without their cup o' joe's so we stopped by Honua's to grab some coffee drinks, smoothies and some baked goods, their sweet (vegan) treats! The gals were helpful and friendly and cranked out our orders as fast as they could. Drink options offered: coffee, tea, and smoothies. I'm not a coffee drinker but I tried my hubby's mocha blended drink. Yum! I chose a strawberry and lilikoi smoothie instead. They make smoothies with plant based milk and my drink was very good. They have baked goods that are clearly labeled as vegan. I'm not vegan but I have family members that are and the fact that they even have vegan options is great. We sat outside at their outdoor patio while we enjoyed our treats. We even had a little visitor drop by in his green Hawaiian shirt... scroll through my pics and see if you can find the little guy. Honua's occupies an old building and is conveniently located next to a 76 gas station in Na'alehu on Mamalahoa Highway. We drove through lush vegetation and green valleys and hills. Review #2277

Possibly the best latte I've had on Hawai'i. Some actual strength to the kau coffee.

Possibly the best latte I've had on Hawai'i. The Kau espresso they use has way more strength and flavor than any of the Kona ones we tried. They actually make a decaf latte as well - hubs was happy since the place we used to go to stopped carrying it. Lilikoi bar had good flavor but wasn't my fave texture. Five stars anyway because the coffee was just that far above their competition's.

The reviews don't lie - this is a very cute jungle-like coffee shop with the best coffee I've had in Big Island and a good selection of home-made snacks.

Walked in and it's like instant comfort--sweet bread smell hitting you before you even figure out what you want. Grabbed a few items and every single one delivered. Soft, fresh, just the right amount of sweetness without feeling heavy. One of those spots where you take a bite, pause, and go "ok yeah... this is why people talk about this place." What I liked most is it didn't feel like a tourist trap--it felt real. Good energy, quick service, and plenty to choose from whether you want something sweet or just a quick snack for the road. Definitely one of those must-stop spots when you're cruising the island... just don't plan on leaving with only one thing.

My wife and I stopped by Punalu'u Bake Shop on a Thursday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. and almost…read moreeverything from their menu was sold out. The only items in their pastry case was two types of turnovers, bread pudding, normal malasadas with no fillings, and "Bismark" malasadas, malasadas filled with white cream and topped with chocolate. None of the fruit filled malasadas available. Like most of the guests in line, we were frustrated at the availability, or lack thereof. At the register, we overheard the woman behind the counter confirm that most of the store's inventory had been cleared out by locals who had placed large phone-in orders beforehand. In my opinion, this shortage could have been avoided: if large orders are placed well in advance, it seems like they could have planned better for their in-store guests by making more inventory? In any case, the sugar covered malasada ($2.29) I had was fine, but not mind-blowing. Definitely not something I would go out of my way to try out, nor something I would wait in a line line for. The malasada had obviously been sitting around all day in the case and didn't taste especially fresh. If anything, the malasada was a little on the dense side. Out of curiosity, I also got a block of their bread pudding ($3.29), and my goodness, that thing is a brick. The bread pudding here is dense! The bread pudding is loaded with raisins. If you're a raisin fan, you'll absolutely love the bread pudding. For everyone else, the raisins make the bread pudding a bit too sweet. Overall, my visit to Punalu'u Bake Shop was pretty disappointing. I would unlikely stop by again if I'm visiting this part of the island.

After we gorged on free samples and margarita pizza, we went on a shopping spree at the well stocked gift shop (not sure if that's the correct term, maybe farmstand?). Since we spent a certain amount on goodies, a discount was given along with free shipping to Alaska (what?!?). It makes me so happy just knowing that places like this exist. My only regret about stopping is that because we were in go, go, go mode to get to a birthday party, we didn't spend nearly enough time here as I would've liked. Next time!
