Darn good cup of coffee! It was recommended to me to get a cup of coffee here while on the way to the southern mist spot of the USA! No kidding. Look on your maps app and you'll see the southern most point is just around 16 miles south of this cafe. This place is special. They grow and roast their own beans. I really enjoyed my americano.

Now that's good coffee. I got the macadamia iced cold brew with a splash of coconut milk; I'm glad he didn't put too much milk because it's a good balance between the strength/richness of the coffee, and sweetness/floral notes.

Beautiful coffee shop. Stop in for bites and drinks and sit outside and enjoy your coffee on the patio!

Super cute little coffee shop. A few simple food items like bagels and hot sandwiches. Coffee is pretty good. I was perfectly happy with my triple latte. People working were friendly.

I am loving their winter menu. I tried this iced orange espresso made with concentrate orange juice and tonic water, topped with a dried orange. it was surprisingly refreshing and I would definitely order it again

My first time staying on the south side of Kona and Naalehu is the closet town to grab coffee. The staff at Ka Lae were very helpful, telling us what other food place were in town like the bakery across the street. One barista was also kind enough to tell us that the matcha latte is made with soy milk (not specified in the menu). My friend and I both got hot match lattes and the amount of match in each drink was incredible. Usually, I feel there is never enough match and therefore I mostly taste the milk. This place was not like that at all ! One downside is that there are a lot of tiny bugs if you sit outside. My friend and I both got bit within about 10 minutes of being there. The shop also offers other things for sale such as candles and handmade baby onesies !

Lots of great seating to enjoy a coffee and baked good while working. The coffee is fantastic, and their fresh fruit smoothies offer a healthy meal options. The staff is VERY friendly.

Can't recommend this place enough! Super chill vibes, always homey and clean. The owners and staff are awesome, they serve the best coffee always consistent never miss. Their caramel macchiato w/ whip and their pesto panini is just.. the BEST in Ka'u.

Walked in and it's like instant comfort--sweet bread smell hitting you before you even figure out what you want. Grabbed a few items and every single one delivered. Soft, fresh, just the right amount of sweetness without feeling heavy. One of those spots where you take a bite, pause, and go "ok yeah... this is why people talk about this place." What I liked most is it didn't feel like a tourist trap--it felt real. Good energy, quick service, and plenty to choose from whether you want something sweet or just a quick snack for the road. Definitely one of those must-stop spots when you're cruising the island... just don't plan on leaving with only one thing.

My wife and I stopped by Punalu'u Bake Shop on a Thursday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. and almost…read moreeverything from their menu was sold out. The only items in their pastry case was two types of turnovers, bread pudding, normal malasadas with no fillings, and "Bismark" malasadas, malasadas filled with white cream and topped with chocolate. None of the fruit filled malasadas available. Like most of the guests in line, we were frustrated at the availability, or lack thereof. At the register, we overheard the woman behind the counter confirm that most of the store's inventory had been cleared out by locals who had placed large phone-in orders beforehand. In my opinion, this shortage could have been avoided: if large orders are placed well in advance, it seems like they could have planned better for their in-store guests by making more inventory? In any case, the sugar covered malasada ($2.29) I had was fine, but not mind-blowing. Definitely not something I would go out of my way to try out, nor something I would wait in a line line for. The malasada had obviously been sitting around all day in the case and didn't taste especially fresh. If anything, the malasada was a little on the dense side. Out of curiosity, I also got a block of their bread pudding ($3.29), and my goodness, that thing is a brick. The bread pudding here is dense! The bread pudding is loaded with raisins. If you're a raisin fan, you'll absolutely love the bread pudding. For everyone else, the raisins make the bread pudding a bit too sweet. Overall, my visit to Punalu'u Bake Shop was pretty disappointing. I would unlikely stop by again if I'm visiting this part of the island.

Premium Kau Coffee, Macnuts, chocolate, short bread, slushies, pizza (on the day we were there) made by two Italian guys. Yes please! After we gorged on free samples and margarita pizza, we went on a shopping spree at the well stocked gift shop (not sure if that's the correct term, maybe farmstand?). Since we spent a certain amount on goodies, a discount was given along with free shipping to Alaska (what?!?). It makes me so happy just knowing that places like this exist. My only regret about stopping is that because we were in go, go, go mode to get to a birthday party, we didn't spend nearly enough time here as I would've liked. Next time!

We had planned to go to the Punalu'u Bake Shop and this food truck and were pleasantly surprised that they're just across the street from one another! After picking up some malasadas and admiring the garden plants came to this food truck, parked cheerily between a little store and home, with both a shaded eating area and a cornhole games set up in front of it. Unfortunately a few things were out of stock when we visited (no strawberries and burgers I believe) but we were still able to pick up a shrimp sampler plate and acai berry bowl to share (came out to ~$30). While we waited for our order, we enjoyed a spirited game of cornhole! About 15 minutes later our buzzer rang and our order was ready. We took it to the beach nearby to eat. The acai bowl melted quickly and tasted healthier and less sweet than most, if that's your thing! The granola was good. The shrimp plate was yummy with lots of sauce for the rice below (the best bites). We felt that the curry shrimp was the tastiest, the cajun shrimp a bit spicy, and the lemon pepper good but standard. A little fresh salad on the side was a good accompaniment.
