Stopped by Coffee Grinds by accident. On our way to Volcanos National Park, and the family was hungry so we pulled over. We were pleasantly surprised by the smoothies here. Tasty! My son and I got the breakfast burritos. They were good. My wife got a breakfast with eggs (the little square baked eggs that go in the burrito), bacon and toast. She was happy to finally find some breakfast. The area is quite active with the locals. It's a bit of a community center of sorts between Coffee Grinds, the gas station, the post office and the grocery store all right there.

I stopped by and had the breakfast burrito. A friend recommended I try it out and they did not disappoint. They have good food and are conveniently located right off the main road. The service is quick and friendly. Great pit stop for anybody looking for some good eats or just a nice spot for a breakfast on the morning commute!

In Captain Cook; if you want a good breakfast either healthy or hearty or both, stop at this gem of an eatery on the way to Volcano National Park or on the way to Kailua-Kona. The granola with yogurt, local honey and banana was my choice; however, other fresh fruit toppings are also available. My husband loved his BLT on homemade sourdough bread. Coffee is great! We arrived around 11:00 a.m.; but, it soon got busy. There are so many other choices on the menu for breakfast, lunch or other; everything looks good, too! Takeout or sit-down inside or outside available Friendly service. One more thing; remember to close the door on your way in or out - owner wants to keep the AC on :) Very happy to recommend! Were very glad we sought this place out - thanks Yelp!

Stopped here on the way to Kona and was glad we did. It was a nice and quiet place to get some great breakfast. The food was on point and the service was quick and fast.

Their coffee is excellent and so are their scones. I also had a breakfast burrito. It's very good, nice friendly place.

They're known for their sweetbread and malasadas, but they also have hot food and ice cream. We shared one of their pork platters. It was pretty good. Pork was super tender! There were 2 portions of pork, which seemed a lot, but I was left wanting more. We also got one guava malasada. This one is just their flavored sweet bread, coated with sugar, no filling. It was so light, fluffy, and delicious! Not heavy or oily. Dare I say these are better than Leonards in Waikiki? I regretted just getting one, because getting in that line again to order more would take too long. Oh that's another thing... Your mindset needs to be on island time because you will wait more than 10 minutes for your food. The place is small, but the property is huge. All dining is outdoor in their patio and two gazebo-like structures. There are two lines to place your order, which helps with the crowd: one by the main door, and the other by the patio. If you like up by the main door, you'll find all their sweet bread loaves, rolls, and snacks. If you line up by the patio, you'll find their pastry case. Either way, you're doomed to pick up more than you came there for. This place is a must! Make the drive. It's so worth it!

We asked for the custard-filled malasadas and the aunties in front ranted "why everyone calls it custard, it's not custard, it's vanilla" in a very annoyed voice. We also felt a little rushed while ordering, which caught us off guard. I was expecting a little more aloha and a little less hurry. Now the malasadas? Oh my goodness... absolutely worth the trip. Call it vanilla, call it custard--I honestly don't care because it was delicious. Soft, fluffy, filled with creamy goodness. I'd happily come back for the malasadas. Hopefully next time the aloha is as warm as the pastries. Mahalo!

I immediately subscribed to their newsletter so I could keep up to speed on what they where offering. In a recent trip to Hawaii, we were finally able to visit in person and it was a fun experience. Enthusiastic staff, lots of laughter, delicious fruit slushies, Art Gallery with featured local artists, penny the pig, baby ducks, parrots that would squawk at you until you engaged in conversation. Premium Kau Coffee, Macnuts, chocolate, short bread, slushies, pizza (on the day we were there) made by two Italian guys. Yes please! After we gorged on free samples and margarita pizza, we went on a shopping spree at the well stocked gift shop (not sure if that's the correct term, maybe farmstand?). Since we spent a certain amount on goodies, a discount was given along with free shipping to Alaska (what?!?). It makes me so happy just knowing that places like this exist. My only regret about stopping is that because we were in go, go, go mode to get to a birthday party, we didn't spend nearly enough time here as I would've liked. Next time!

Grab a bite from the food truck or enjoy the samples in the store. The macadamia nuts are absolutely addictive, and the thoughtfully crafted honey is just as incredible. Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable, and I loved learning how the honey develops its unique flavors. Best of all, it feels great to support local farmers!
