We are so weird! Our most memorable food in Hawaii was from here. We were driving around the island headed to Hilo and stopped here for a coffee break and decided we might as well get some food too. Coffee was so so, but the breakfast sandwich and house salad with Turkey and avocado was so yummy, fresh and absolutely divine. Its a small hole in the wall place and this place was packed. Stopped by Coffee Grinds by accident. On our way to Volcanos National Park, and the family was hungry so we pulled over. We were pleasantly surprised by the smoothies here. Tasty! My son and I got the breakfast burritos. They were good. My wife got a breakfast with eggs (the little square baked eggs that go in the burrito), bacon and toast. She was happy to finally find some breakfast. The area is quite active with the locals. I stopped in for a late breakfast and had a breakfast sandwich with eggs, potatoes and bacon on a croissant. It was very good and the croissant was fresh -- an important indicator IMHO. The coffee was good, too. I decided to get what I thought was a cinnamon roll for dessert. It turned out to be a sweet roll with some cherry jam tucked inside, which would have been fine except that it was a bit stale. We're a large group with some indecisive folks and the sweet woman at the counter remembered each order by person to ensure there were no mistakes. Amazing. Food was great. I had the pesto sandwich on a croissant with sriracha Mayo which was a roll of the dice but soooo goood! Vanilla latte also amazing with coffee ice cubes- Starbucks take not on how to up your game. This is a popular hang out spot for locals. They have a good menu and friendly service but the food is subpar. I've had the opportunity to try a few items off the menu. It is really hit and miss. I was super unimpressed with the avocado toast. There is a certain vibe in the atmosphere. It's like the owners just really do not care to be excellent. In Captain Cook; if you want a good breakfast either healthy or hearty or both, stop at this gem of an eatery on the way to Volcano National Park or on the way to Kailua-Kona. The granola with yogurt, local honey and banana was my choice; however, other fresh fruit toppings are also available. My husband loved his BLT on homemade sourdough bread. Coffee is great! We arrived around 11:00 a.m.; but, it soon got busy. There are so many other choices on the menu for breakfast, lunch or other; everything looks good, too! I stopped by here yesterday with my wife for our morning coffee. We had gotten an early start on our way from Kailua-Kona to Volcanoes National Park and consulted Yelp for a coffee place that was on our way and open. That place just happened to be Coffee Grinds. It is located in a strip mall and whenever we pulled up it was pretty empty with only a two top inside filled. There's not too much to say about the inside here as it consisted of a number of tables and a place to order your coffee. The menu was written on a chalkboard and their espresso machine only allowed for a single puck at a time. For my coffee on this morning I decided to go with a 2 shot Americano while my wife chose a small house coffee. Within no time at all my wife and I both had our coffees and we were on our way. After mine had cooled down a bit I was able to taste it. The coffee was decently strong and had a nice smooth flavor to it. While it wasn't anything special it did its job and I appreciated that. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. My coffee was decent and I would be interested in trying some of the food items that they had on their chalkboard menu. read more

This place is a must visit when in the Ocean View area! We came here several mornings during our stay for breakfast or for really good coffee! The wait staff and people behind the counter were very welcoming and friendly. I could tell that they don't get much business at once due to the amount of time it took for them to finally get all 8 of us fed but I wasn't complaining I was on vacation after all! I got a sausage breakfast skillet with croissant toast yummm as well as a strawberry banana smoothie, the other girls got a variety of things from their menu and there were no complaints whatsoever with the food or the different coffees everyone ordered! One of the few restaurants in this neighborhood that is open early at 6:00 am for breakfast. Conveniently located by a gas station and Ocean View Market.Friendly service and a lot of breakfast options on the menu. I ordered the Breakfast Burrito ($8.50) with potatoes, egg, and cheese. I added avocado for another $1.00. The burrito was large and filling with a lot of avocado and cheese. Although it was good I wouldn't describe it as excellent. The tortilla was a bit hard and the filling to me tasted a bit rubbery rather than moist and soft. I would still recommend this restaurant if you are in the area and want breakfast. Other than the supermarket there aren't many restaurants open early in the morning in Ocean View. read more

Don't let the name stop you from ordering lunch. They have a great breakfast and lunch menu. We ordered a sandwich, a burger with fries, and a breakfast burrito with sausage added. The burrito was the star of the meal! Try one of them--you won't be sorry. Shell was toasted and filled to maximum capacity with yummy ingredients! Didn't try the coffee, but a hot cocoa. This little spot is a gem. As we headed out to the volcano we stopped for coffee and ended up ordering food after we saw the delicious offerings. Fortunately we got the last order of biscuits and gravy which were outstanding. My son and his wife shared a delicious breakfast burrito. Wow. This place is a gem. We stopped there on our way to South Point and we're blown away by the menu options and the quality of the food. Breakfast burrito is fantastic, with deliciously seasoned potatoes and the croissant sandwich has that great mix of flaky and spongy, along with your choice of meat and type of mayo. The coffee is great too and the iced coffee comes with coffee ice cubes so your drink doesn't get too watered down. There's also a selection of games, so if you like a little connect four with your food and coffee - this is the place for you.
