Coming from Oahu, the big island is definitely country. We found this little gem on my Yelp App, and from the outside you would never tell that this cute cafe offers a bomb breakfast. Next to a tiny little post office in a small strip mall, you'll miss it if you blink. Walking in, we noticed that everyone knew everyone. All of the regulars shook hands and talked, caught up on whats new. How cute! Our breakfast burrito was simple. It came with potatoes, cheese, and egg, and option to add meat, avo, salsa, or sour cream for an additional charge. This burrito was humongous, and despite its few ingredients, it had great flavor. I'm pretty sure my boyfriend and I could have shared, but our eyes are always bigger than our stomach, and we both were unable to finish. The waffle had a hint of cinnamon, which my son and BF LOVED. Their brewed coffee was delicious as well. I wish I would have ordered the iced coffee to go, knowing now that they use coffee ice cubes. Genius! read more

I choose coffee ice cubes, which made the coffee more tasty! Basically just frozen coffee cubes. Then the tomato pesto sandwich with sriracha sauce was fresh, and just delicious! Cute place next to a grocery store and a gas station. Recommend checking it out on the way to Vulcano or South Point. Huge menu list with variety of options. The veggie wrap was great and the humus tasted so good. The coffee drinks seem on the higher end -$8 for 20oz espresso drink. The food was priced reasonable and came with a bag of chips. Will definitely make it a regular stop when in the area. Banana chips is only $5 and the perfect snack. Make sure to grab some for the road. read more

Ummm... what can I say about this place? We stopped here because it really was the only thing open, but were pretty disappointed. I ordered avocado toast. They had no avocados. I asked if they had a fresh fruit bowl. No. I ordered the bagel with cream cheese and lox. No lox. I asked what fruits were in the smoothies. Frozen Costco fruit. What the??? Oh, and I ordered a chi latte (a pre mix also from Costco), and made it at half strength. They were nice about adding more though. read more

Found this cute little breakfast while vacationing with the family. We walked in (all 7 of us) and the place was packed. The employees were super friendly and did everything possible to accommodate our larger group. They pushed tables together and brought in chairs. My picky eaters (2 kiddos) ate well here with a side of bacon and egg a piece. The staff even brought out chalk for them to play with while we finished eating. This cute place is about 20 minutes from my vacation spot, but took time to get a latte there before it closed at 3 pm. The parking lot is horrendous on the weekend, but during the week it is fine. One of the few places to stop on the way to black sand beach and it was a good choice. The yogurt and granola with honey was good and the BLT and bagels were enjoyed by my family. Will never forget this charming little sandwich n smoothie shop! My recent trip to Kona, the boyfriend took me on the outskirts and had me try a sandwich at Coffee Grinds. Then we had another one, and another one the next day, and then the next day. Family owned and the three people we interacted with over the course of a week were just as pleasant as could be. Kenny has the Hawaiian low-key + friendly personality and Jenny was sweet as pie! Sandwiches were made to order, very fresh, and enough to split between me and my boyfriend. This place closes at noon on sundays. It is not open until 1 pm on Sunday as stated. No chance to find out about how the smoothies are which is why we tried to arrive before the stated 1pm closing time. I think it would be helpful if the business would update their hours. The place looks pretty dodgy from the outside but the coffee is quite good (this is what matters). You self serve the coffee from large thermoses, which made me a bit skeptical, but the coffee was not disappointing. I often find that Kona coffee, when not of particularly good quality, becomes undrinkable when it cools. This is not the case with Coffee Grinds' coffee. We stopped in here a couple of years ago too and thought they did a pretty good job despite sad surroundings (grocery store strip mall type of place).
