I visited Coffee Etc. recently for an afternoon pick-me-up. Since this shop is close to my house, and everything they have is so good, it is one that I find myself coming back to time after time. Coffee Etc. is a locally-owned coffee shop located in the heart of Castle Shannon. It is near well-known places such as Ice Castle and just down the hill from Myrtle Elementary. They serve traditional and artisan coffees and teas, along with an extensive menu of breakfast and lunch items. There is always a selection of desserts and pastries on the counter as well. It is right along the T line, so it is easy to get to both by vehicle and public transit. There is not a private parking lot, but there are spaces along the street out front, as well as ample Street parking options around and behind the building. I have never had to park too far away when making a stop here, often securing a space right in front. The shop has both indoor and outdoor seating options. There are two-person and four-person tables that surround the front entrance. Inside, there are low-top tables, high-top tables and couches to choose from. On the weekends, it can be packed in here in terms of seating. I usually am able to find a table, but just be aware in case you are coming during a peak time! Overall, the vibe is a comfy and cozy cafe. It is warm, inviting, and makes you want to hang out for awhile. I always love the in-progress puzzle that sits at the counter where drinks are handed out. You can contribute a little bit to the work-in-progress in your idle moments waiting for your order to be ready. It is also fun to see what puzzle will be there the next time you visit. Something cool about this place is their dedication to their faith. They have free Bibles available for visitors, and they host different Bible studies and groups throughout the week. On this day, I visited around 1:45 PM on a Wednesday in September. It was not very busy, but there were other patrons in the shop. I took a moment to look at the monthly specials on the board outside, and made my way in to order a drink. The staff here are always so friendly and kind, and so it is no surprise that I was promptly greeted when entering. I was between a few of the drinks, but I ended up deciding on the Kettle Corn Iced Latte, since that is not a flavor you see everyday for coffees. As it was not busy at this time, I only waited a minute or so from the time I placed my order to when I had the drink in-hand. My drink was very good! I loved the unique flavor of the Kettle Corn, as I had never had that in a coffee before this latte. I truly have never had a bad drink or food item from here, and this visit was no different. They have so many different flavors and sauces to choose from, you will surely find one to your liking. I typically get one of the features/seasonal drinks, but you are able to customize any which way you want. Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing here, so I have to mention them in this review as well. I did not get one on this visit, but they are made-to-order and the quality is top-notch. There are several sandwiches on the menu, but you can also customize your own. I recommend getting the Chipotle Raspberry Jam on whatever sandwich you choose. It is wonderful! Plus, the sandwiches come with a little cookie as a sweet ending to your meal. The pricing here is on-par with what you would expect from a local coffee shop. I am usually spending between $6 and $7, depending on the size. I will typically get a custom sandwich, which starts at $7.50. It is not off-base with what you would expect for a local shop. I do feel the value is there, since everything is so tasty and the staff are so friendly and welcoming. I always love coming to Coffee Etc, and I highly recommend you give it a try if you are in the area or are thinking about stopping. The atmosphere, homemade sandwiches, variety of drinks, and the cozy vibes keep me coming back time and time again. Plus, they are always having new and seasonal drinks to try, so there will always be something different to enjoy. read more

We had such a great experience at this neighborhood coffee shop! The coffee was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and relaxing. Small yet roomy with a good bit of tables inside and a few outside. They have a lot of games for the kids to keep occupied and a puzzle that you can work on while you wait for your coffee at the counter, which is cute. They were busy when I went and they accidentally made my coffee iced instead of hot, which they remade no problem. I'm not sure if it was their font choice or just the fact that it was a ton of words, but their menus on the wall were very overwhelming. They have a ton of choices of coffee and flavors, and food as well. Tis the season for pumpkin spice so I had to try it. I would say it was good, better than some, but not enough to go out of my way for. There is street parking all around. read more

There is a special kind of peace in this place. Even though I like trying different coffee shops, this one always makes me feel good. I especially love the corner with the electric fireplace sitting there gives me real comfort and joy. The staff are truly kind people, and I feel like I'm visiting a family home when I come here. Was excited to finally try this coffee shop on a rainy Saturday just before noon. I was surprised to see that despite the weather, people were seated outside at tables under the overhang and the line to order was to the door. The line moved very quickly and gave me about 2-3 minutes to figure out what I wanted. The staff were all very friendly and polite. I ordered an iced latte and the last bear claw from the case to go. While my latte was being made, I used the ladies room that was a clean single stall with plenty of soap and paper towels available. By the time I washed my hands and came back out, my drink was waiting for me. The shortbread latte was sweet and creamy. I would 100% order it again. I think it came to somewhere around $5.50 with the flavor added and the bear claw was $3.50. I paid a little over $12 after tip was added. I was a little disappointed with the bear claw, unfortunately. It looked delicious and flaky, but was definitely on the dry side with not too much flavor. The icing cracked and fell off when I took a bite and the pastry itself just lacked any moisture at all and only had a hint of almond flavor to it. Next time, I'd grab a Nancy B's cookie instead. read more

My husband and I stopped in here on a Saturday morning at the recommendation of a friend. We love checking out local coffee shops and couldn't believe we had never been to this place. It was absolutely adorable inside with lots of menu options for drinks and sandwiches. We both decided to do the build your own breakfast sandwich. My husband had ham, egg, cheddar, and spinach on a plain bagel with raspberry chipotle sauce. I had bacon, eggs, cheddar, and tomato on ciabatta with a spicy aioli. They both came out piping hot and were a 10 out of 10. Maybe one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've ever had! I had a cappuccino and my husband had a double espresso, the coffee was spot on too. The whole time we were there, it was a steady stream of people in and out. The place was very clean and the staff was friendly. I stopped today at Coffee, etc. and like so many other comments - I had a great time. First of all, as someone who drives down Castle Shannon Blvd., past Willow Ave. at least once a week, I was mad at myself for not stopping there before. I chose to try a Hot Vanilla Latte (large) and picked two of their delicious-looking homemade chocolate chip cookies with peanut butter for my adult son. We took our purchases home and together consumed our new treats while reading a book together. We thoroughly enjoyed both the latte and cookies. Everything about this place including the food, the staff, the atmosphere, and the ease of parking made for a truly memorable - and pleasant - experience. I love that they are a local business too. What a cute little gem in Castle Shannon! There is parking right in front, which makes it nice and easy to quickly run in. I had Coffee etc. bookmarked for quite some time now and I am so happy I finally got to stop in. I was greeted by a very nice, cheerful woman. I always love when people who are preparing your coffee are in a happy mood :) I mentioned it was my first time and I was a little unsure of what I wanted, she navigated me through the menu and was very helpful. I chose to go with an iced latte. They offer soy and almond milk for my plant based friends! I LOVE that after she handled my money, she washed her hands. Pre or post covid, I don't care, I am so happy she washed her hands! You rarely see this after handling cash! My iced vanilla almond milk latte was super tasty! I love that stirred it all together while she was pouring and didn't hand it to me for me to swirl myself, it was perfect! The espresso was smooth and not bitter at all, did not have a burnt taste either (which I find sometimes at non chain places). They do have a menu and it looks like it is suitable for all different eating styles. There were others waiting to order so I didn't want to ask about the vegan options. But, quickly looking at their menu I'm sure some of the items can be made vegan friendly. I will be back to try the avo toast! They offer a handful of baked goods and grab and go snacks as well. I stopped by here here earlier today with my wife for our morning coffee. We ended up stopping at Coffee Etc. because it was on the Pittsburgh Coffee Passport. The inside of this place is nice and modern looking with hardwood floors and white walls. They also have a bunch of art and decor on their walls and then some chalkboard menus with both their breakfast and lunch menus. For seating they have both indoor and outdoor seating which is nice and my wife ended up grabbing us the last outdoor table. Finally, there were two employees working on the morning that we were there and they were both super nice! Normally I don't necessarily care for small chit chat while ordering or waiting for coffee but they both engaged me over the Coffee Passport and it was nice. For my coffee on this morning we were given the run of the menu and I decided to have a almond milk cappuccino while my wife went with an Americano. Both of our coffees were quite good. My cappuccino had a nice hit of coffee flavor before leaving a light finishing taste of almond. Meanwhile my wife's Americano was both strong and smooth and after the strong earthy flavor of my coffee had some fruity notes to it. My wife and I also decided to split a breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel with bacon and pepper jack. The sandwich itself ended up being really good. The bagel was toasted nicely while the eggs had the perfect amount of pepper to them. Then the bacon was crispy and the pepper jack was spicy and gooey and the chipotle aioli added a nice spice to everything. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While I don't think Coffee Etc. would have earned 5 stars on their coffee alone (probably 4), our sandwich was excellent and the employees were friendly which really made the experience great. read more
